    Combination lunch

It's not bad, but I think there are better Chinese restaurants around. I've gotten the fried smelt and Japanese salt & pepper tofu in the past which were both solid. More recently after the change in ownership, I got the combination lunch special and it wasn't great. Fried shrimp was almost all breading, crab rangoon barely had any filling as well. The beef teriyaki, bbq pork, spring roll, and fried rice were average but I wouldn't go out of my way to order it again

Great authentic Cantonese food without having to to go to Chinatown! Everything we had was excellent and a good portion size. The place is small so be prepared to wait for a table or come when it's off peak. Popular dishes are the salt and pepper smelt and the tofu. You can't go wrong with the salt and pepper shrimp. Everything was seasoned perfectly.

The interior of this spot looks like it's been preserved since the 70s maybe 80s, but that aside the food is the best I've found so far in the western suburbs. On our recent visit, we tried the Japanese fried tofu which was crispy, salty, spicy on the outside, and piping hot on the inside. Bangin'. Also did an order of clams in black bean sauce. Solid, but preference would be some sort of white fish (there's always next time). Beef chow fun was pretty good. Lastly, the green string beans were perfection. From the exterior, this place isn't much to look at, but the food and service were great. I see many more visits in the near future and possible an upgrade to 5 stars as I get more acquainted with the food. 'Til next time, cheers!

Now they have delivery service! Awesome!

Now they have delivery service! Food is great and delivery is fast! Restaurant inside has some new decorations and is well remodeled.

    New menu.

So sad Chinese Kitchen closed. It was our favorite local Chinese restaurant. They had such amazing food and an incredible variety of authentic Chinese dishes. This is now Teahouse Restaurant. The large round family tables are gone, replaced by six, 6 person rectangular tables with a central warmer plate for doing tableside hot pot. Chinese Kitchen was always busy with dine in patrons and busy phone takeout. We went at 7pm on a weeknight to Teahouse Restaurant. No one else was dining in. Takeout Phones weren't ringing. Saw only 3 people getting takeout while we were there. Menu is much smaller, less authentic dishes available. Our favorite Yanzhow fried rice is no longer on the menu and no more pea pods with garlic sauce. The salt spicy tofu was still excellent. Decided to get the Mongolian lamb since they no longer have Beef Tenderloin Mandarin Style, Hong Sue Tofu (With BBQ Pork), or Shredded pork with preserved pickles on the menu. The Mongolian lamb was tasty though the sauce was very hoisin forward and the dried chilis were too leathery to eat. We got the house fried rice since there was no Yanzhow fried rice anymore. It was okay. Needed more salt. The food was good but not as good as Chinese Kitchen. We will probably try them again in future and I honestly do hope they do well, though the empty tables and sparse takeout activity don't bode well. Oh, and their menu lists the old Chinese Kitchen website but when you click on menu or order online it doesn't seem to be working, you get an error code..

It has definitely seen better days: still open but very empty (of customers, of vendors, of products). But when we stopped by on a Wednesday for lunch, we found the food to be quite good and of really good value along with plenty of space to dine comfortably and nonchalantly: a good stop to refuel while on the way to central Illinois.

There are a variety of dishes to choose from 4 different vendors on the first floor. I enjoy coming here every so often to treat myself and my family to authentic dishes that are hard to find elsewhere, particularly stinky tofu, ba wan (Taiwanese meatball), oyster omelet, and pig blood soup. It is a food court. You are expected to return the tray and empty dishes back to designated areas. Although not required, I've never seen anyone do otherwise. The bathrooms are small and could use additional lighting in my opinion. Parking, you asked? Yes, there is a large parking lot. It is easily accessed from Route 83 (Kingery Hwy) or Ogden Avenue. On this particular visit, 988 Oriental Food House was closed. Reopening date is May 30, 2023.

A pretty dead food court scene. It's early afternoon on a Wednesday and hopefully business is better on the weekends and prime time.

The service was quick even though there was a long line. It is in a food court so it is very casual! We got: Soy milk: 4/5 standard hot soy milk Yiaotiao: 5/5 a tad pricy but well worth it for its size and freshness Salt and pepper Porkchop: 5/5 amazing flavor and it was just perfectly done. Pork stew over rice: 4/5 I loved the pickles! I actually ended up waiting in line again to buy a side of pickles. I would for sure recommend this spot if you are in town.

It's a decent size food court, but many of the stalls were closed. Chinese Cafe was open, and became a bit busier after us. Most of the customers were non-Asian, but have read that the food court becomes quite busy with ethnic Chinese during the weekend. I was greeted in Cantonese, and even when I responded back in English, our conversation continued in that way. It ended up being fruitful, with an initial order of two lunch plates. I later came back to order a soup from the neighboring dumpling house, both being served by the same front of house. L13. Double cooked pork. L14. Mongolian Beef. ($9.25 each). Comes with choice of fried rice or white rice, egg roll, and can of soda (Coke Zero in our case). The high heat wok cooking really makes a big difference, with the smokiness in both the meats and vegetables that I really love. Can't get that at Panda Express. All the vegetables were sliced/diced with care: really loved the sliced onion in the mongolian beef, actually more than the beef itself. And the sliced pork loin was the perfect amount, with a really fragrant brown sauce that my wife enjoyed. Beef Noodle Soup ($11.95) - a good dish, with a large amount of springy noodles in a decent dark broth. It had plenty of large beef shank chunks, decently tender. It's a good rendition of beef noodle soup, especially at this price. You self bus (which is fine if only disposable items, but not so good when having to return soup bowls that stack up due to not being cleared). The food court definitely has symptoms of being not busy: not clean bathrooms and tables, and a general malaise of nobody really 'caring'. But we found the food to be good and of great value.
