Every time I go here I always leave irritated. The food and service are good, but the prices are outrageous. I always get sticker shock every time I get the bill. Went here with a group of 6 after work, and encountered many problems. The food was good but it's not worth the money. Although our waitress was pretty nice and decent at first, she forgot our fries, the condiments we asked for, and did not stop by the table not once after she dropped the food off. Instead we saw her chatting it up with another table for 30 minutes. I would give one star but the other star is for the other servers helping us. TO TOP IT OFF.... we were grated 18% and our server did not give us our receipt (i had to ask for it AFTER we paid). We unknowingly tipped on top of grat, now here's our main issue... If the service was great then I would not be writing this review bc we are servers and we don't mind gratuity but... 1. to not tell us about the grat or even print the receipt prior to us paying.. 2. request extra tip on top 3. all for some decent then to poor service? no thank you, there are better late night options in this area. not worth read more

I ordered breakfast and a lunch to go. For breakfast I ordered the Simple Two Egg breakfast. Eggs, bacon, potatoe pancakes were well prepared. Really nothing special. I will mention the scrambled eggs were perfectly scrambled and fluffy. My first time for the potatoe pancake and I did not like how they were seasoned, but that is my thing, not the restaurants fault. 2-stars. (Think fresh frozen, throw on grill top) The service was good, single waitresses who also was the hostess. At the end of my meal she was a little slow, handling at least three different tables. Restaurant management takes the hit for not staffing correctly. Minus 1-star. Lunch was a Ruben, with sour kraute, thousand dressing on the side. The meat was a bit dry, but I did have it a few hours after ordering it. Waitress went the extra mile to package it in there smallest containers. Plus 1-star. The staff is perfectly professional but you can tell they are struggling with staffing because the past two times I have been there the service has been really slow for pickup orders. The finest time I waited 30-40 minutes for two sandwiches but I didn't call ahead. Third time wasn't the charm. The last time I was here it was okay but I decided to give it another chance. Ordered corned beef hash and the corned beef was terribly dry. Toast came with no butter. Waitress said they had to go get some from the back. For $13 it wasn't anything to write home about. I don't understand the no condiments on the table. This was our first visit to Katz's since they re-configured the restaurant and switched to 24/7 service. We have always liked Katz's for the great food but the food we had today was excellent. The Pastrami Reuben was amazing, Matzo ball soup was very tasty and the corned beef hash with two eggs was very good. The decor is very nice with a beer and wine bar, and a more open design. You can't earn 5 stars without excellent service and today it was superb...Plenty of pleasant staff and great table service. This is much better than when you ordered at the counter. I think it might've been little too over hyped and maybe a little on pricey side. 13.99 for a medium sized deli sandwich and another 1.99 for some "New York style" chips(not sure what that was since they looked and tasted like regular chips) might be a little steep. The place is open 24hrs and I can totally lose my mind at this place and stuff my face at 3am after the bar closes. However, in the middle of the day it seemed like another run of the mill deli place that just couldn't live up to the expectations. Service and atmosphere were average at best. If a deli has good Pastrami, its more than a fair bet that the rest of the menu will be of equal quality. Do you know what Katz's DOESN'T have? Good Pastrami. Even more remarkably so, it doesn't even have a manager who knows what Pastrami is or should taste like! The first, and only, time I went to Katz's Deli in The Woodlands I ordered a Pastrami sandwich. I took a single bite, swallowed out of sheer common human politeness, then immediately sent it back and asked for a refund; ONE BITE. IT WAS THAT BAD. The manager on duty came and asked what the problem was, I explained that whatever they'd put on my sandwich that claimed to be Pastrami wasn't that. "Well, I've never had Pastrami, what should it taste like?" If you're the manager of any restaurant, you should know what every single dish and every side tastes like...and especially a hallmark pillar ingredient like this. I had to explain what Pastrami was, how it's made, and how the bland and greasy and just...disappointing stuff that was below Oscar Meyer lunchmeat was NOT was what was requested or expected. Went here last Friday night after a movie date with my wife. The food has never been great, up to a native New Yorker standards, but as a limited late night option, it used to be our go to place. Walked in got seated and subsequently ignored for 15 minutes with 6 staffers: socializing with each other; folding napkins; laughing and a variety of non customer service activities. About 6-7 tables eating and served, but we didn't get water or utensils brought to us let alone our order taken. My wife is very forgiving and said let's wait a little longer. I attempted flagging a black haired female waiter who stared in our direction and ignored us. We got up and left without incident. Will not be back. For a New York style deli they do not cut the cold cuts thin enough, they cut them way too thick to be NY style and I always request the meet be shaved ultra thin, I've done this in at least 4 occasions but they never do it. Also some of their portions are crazy. Ordered a kids chicken sand and it was about 2 inches square with a small cup of apple sauce and a lemonade for over $5 Their food does have good flavor but their portions and as a New Yorker you can see that it's not really New York style kills it for me. read more

I have liked the food here and especially some of the staff. Yesterday was a final awakening. Two clubs were $50 plus with tip. We tip well. Had to get more sauce for sandwich and charged $1 for a dry sandwich. Wow we are required to pay for condiments. They know we are regulars. 6-7 staff at 3pm for 1-2 customers meant people were not busy. Had to flag staff 2-3 times to get attention. I want to see staff paid for their performance. My first time at Katz. It was a nice place and the service was good. Very clean and not too loud. Only complaint I have is the meat portions. I ordered a large Ruben. They should just call it what it is: a sauerkraut sandwich. There was almost no meat on it. Called in and went and picked the food up. Katz's food is just normal deli food. Everything is just so-so unless you get their premium meats. Very Very high prices for what you get. Two sandwiches one appetizer and two desserts for $80.00. Pros: 1. Carrot cake was good. 2. Ruben was good. 3. Cheesecake was good. 4. The girl who got it ready was nice and pleasant and everything was there. Cons: 1. Got the Chili (didn't expect it to be that good considering I'm from Texas) It had no flavor. The worst part is you get 3-4 ounces and it's $7.33. 2. Got the "Nosh Basket" (4 appetizers thinking it could feed two) Four pieces of each is all you get totaling 6 ounces. One was a hot dog with just four slices (about 1/2 of one hot dog). The potato wedges are one small one cut into 4 pieces. It would take two of these baskets to average one basket from any other restaurant but they charge you the price of two. 3. I was hungry so I decided to get the "Katz Meow" sandwich (4 types of meat on one sandwich) thinking it would be big and fill me up. On their website it shows only one size. They don't tell you that it's a SMALL. Just 6 inches. For $14.60 you would think it would be a super large one. You better get two if you want enough not to be hungry So in the long run $80.00 later and we're still hungry. read more

My first time here! The food is good but what I didn't like was the 5% gratuity added for to-go orders (also the 2% non cash) charge that is not disclosed before paying. There is an option for leaving a percentage tip before checking out, which I did (7% is the highest amount shown other than a customized amount). For Katz's to hide a forced gratuity for to-go orders is just sad. Was disappointed that it says on Yelp they have a warm cookie and they don't. Talk about overpriced food omg. My wife and I went in on a Friday night and they were only seating less than half the restaurant. MOD said they were short staffed. She never smiled once the whole time I saw her. My wife and I ordered a regular sandwich each with one small bowl of fries. We each ordered an ice tea and our bill with a small tip was $46.00. The sandwiches were tiny, even the pickles have been downsized. Nothing like the pickles in the barrel they use to have. I feel sorry for our waiter. After people place their order with him and he brings what little food there is. He then has to hope he'll get a tip. Jason's deli has sandwiches twice the size for less money, no tip required. The worst excuse for the word "Deli". I really don't do these types of reviews anymore but I am doing this review as a service for y'all to seek out a good deli. I am using the word "good" for a reason. In this area, we actually have a good deli. Tony's Italian Delicatessen, is very good and with 2 locations nearby, we can all do a collective pass on the lunch meat and dishwater that they serve at Katz's. No, it's NOT the same Katz's that we've all seen in When Harry Met Sally. That's the original Katz's on Houston Street in NYC. Just let it go folks. This is dog food utilizing a famous name. If you want a true Jewish Deli (there are very few in the US...just check out Deli Man on YouTube), go to Kenny and Ziggy's in the Galleria. One of the very few Jewish delis in the U.S. It is soooooo good. Their Matzo Ball Soup/Mishmosh Soup is to die for. Their Pastrami on rye is the best outside of NYC. read more

We've been coming here for many years, usually for breakfast, but also for many lunches. This is my second review. I felt I needed to because of the occasional negative review below. In the dozens of visits, eating both in the restaurant or getting it to go, we have never, never been served poor quality food or in any way been disappointed by either the food or the service. Now with their expanded menu, they have real bacon and beef items on the menu as well. And comparing them to the deli in NYC is ridiculous, unless you like the hassle of traveling to NYC and the obnoxious people working in the NYC deli as opposed to the very nice and efficient people working here, in your own town. There is no place even close to the quality of their sandwiches anywhere in the Houston area to my knowledge. And their pickles are much better than in NYC, so there! read more

First time at any Katz's. I had a fantastic grilled pastrami and cheese hero. Fantastic hero. Took about half home, reheated it in the microwave to warm it up and it was once again fantastic. Came to grab a late bite to eat with some friends on a Saturday night around 12am. Waited at least 10 minutes for someone to even talk to us and write our name down. Waited another 35 minutes to be seated which we didn't mind because we understood they were short on staff. One of our friends ended up not even getting his burger he ordered and it took another 40 minutes to come out as he sat there and starved. I have eaten at the Katz's on Westheimer many times. I've enjoyed the food there. My parents wanted to try the Katz's in the Woodlands, so we gave it a try. To sum it up, it was simply a horrible decision. My parents had the French Onion soup, and it came out at room temperature and was horrible. I had creamed spinach which came out actually cold. Not room temperature, but cold. It has to have come out of a refrigerator. It was unbelievable. When they brought replacements, my parents French Onion Soup literally contained no onions and my spinach had reached room temperature. The manager made no compensation with the price and did not even come to talk to us. It is a place I will never visit again. In summation, The Woodlands has plenty of good places to eat. Katz's is not one of them. read more
