You stand in a line for a bit until they let you in and when you leave they make you walk all the way up and leave that way so beware if you have some mobility issues you may need to have them help you. The theatre is large and comfortable. The screen is giant and the movie was quite the experience. 3d plus butt kickers makes for a real experience. We had a great time

When I watch movies here, my smart watch goes crazy with notifications that the sound is exceeding 80 and 90 decibels. Sounds above 85 decibels are harmful to your hearing. Gas lawn mowers are 85 decibels. Rock concerts are 90-120 decibels. Weekly limit at 90 decibels is 4 hours. Per week total, not per event. So a single 2 hour movie is half your weekly limit (to hopefully avoid permanent hearing loss, but not guaranteed it won't happen sooner) and 30 minutes/day causes temporary hearing loss. If the majority of film goers do not have permanent hearing loss, they will now! That's why I always bring 'Etymotic ER20XS ETY Earplugs' high fidelity, high definition earplugs with 20 dB sound reduction when I go to the movies and concerts. It's like a volume knob for your environment, turning everything down 20 dB equally across all frequencies. These are not foam earplugs which muddies the sound and blocks the highs. They are amazing; have been using them at concerts for many years and more recently now at movie theaters. https://a.co/d/5TOSKtz - these are the ones I have, but looks like they don't make them anymore. https://a.co/d/4HHnXGY - these look like the replacements. I wish I didn't need to bring earplugs to the movies but let's be real; I'll be lucky to get a meaningless canned copy/paste response to this review and it will be even less likely that theater will actually lower the volumes to safe levels.

These popcorn buckets can be hard to find (only at select theaters, while supplies last, etc.). We also saw Toy Story in their IMAX theater and the surround sound makes such a difference. Just know that if you're sitting in the front section of the theater, the chairs don't recline so you're really looking up at the screen. I can't wait to see Toy Story 5 again.

Normally, I don't write reviews but I want to shout out some great customer service. I saw Spider Man Brand New Day today in their Dolby Cinema. The movie was great, and looked and sounded fantastic in that auditorium. No issues there. However, my seat was difficult to get to recline, and after leaving to use the restroom and return it wouldn't recline again. The controls seemed not to be working. I told one of the guys at the Customer Service counter because I figured they'd want to know so they could fix it. Without even asking for one, he offered me a pass for a free showing due to the issue and thanked me for letting them know which seat it was (I assume people are often less than gracious when they encounter issues like this. It is Boston after all, a place known for level-headed responses to inconveniences...). Major kudos to whomever that was. Why only 3 stars? The common areas are looking a bit worn these days. I assume this location is one of the busier ones in the area though. I've also had them be out of butter for popcorn on a random weekday at like 6pm when it wasn't even busy. I've never had an issue with cleanliness in the auditoriums. The bathrooms can get rough when it's busy, and they could use some updating. The IMAX here is not a full-sized one, but it is still larger than most in multiplexes (it's no Jordan's Reading, but it's much better than the Boston Common AMC) and is 1.85 or 1.90:1. However, unless something is shot for IMAX I would say you should do the Dolby Cinema instead here as it has reclining seats and it's the same aspect ratio, I believe. Overall, very solid local theater that's starting to show wear and tear because it's busy. The theaters are clean, in my experience. However, I was particularly impressed by the staff today.

Unless you live downtown or work in the city and catch a movie on your way home there isn't much reason to visit this theater. There are more screens here than Assembly Row or AMC Causeway, but it's less modern. Due to the number of screens there are sometimes events that are only shown here within the area as well. I can tell that this used to be a very nice theater. However, it's in desperate need of renovation. It probably wouldn't take much. Refreshing the lobby, replacing the carpet in the hallways, and maybe an update to some of the larger auditoriums with recliners or AMC's club rockers. It doesn't even need to be all the the auditoriums, especially since there are 19 of them and even though they are just standard seats (outside of the IMAX and Dolby Theater) they're still decent. A word of caution that the IMAX here is a scope screen (so, not as tall as an IMAX usually is, even at a typical chain theater). The Dolby Cinema is good though and better than this location's IMAX. They're still the two best screens here and I would try to book either if you visit this location over any of the others. AMC could return this to a flagship theater experience by renovating common areas and say... 2 auditoriums (into Prime, or additional Dolby Cinemas). Right now though, it's dirtier with fewer amenities and a more difficult to reach (unless you're already downtown) than your other options in the area. All screens are laser projection though, and even 25 (yikes) year old Harry Potter looked fantastic (but Causeway and Assembly are also all laser, too). The employees looked to be doing their best, so I hope AMC invests the money to update this theater.

The theaters themselves are clean and spacious though the seats can be uncomfortable and aren't adjustable. Another perk to the particular theater is that you have several dining options in the theater as well as outside the theater in Patriot Place. This theater also has a mini food court where you can eat before a movie and a small banquet room for birthday parties. The staff I interacted with at this location were pleasant and professional. I would definitely recommend this Showcase if you are in a touristy type of mood.

And then I remembered. $25 for the Lux level vs $14, whatever I'll pay more who cares. Well now I care because we showed up 40 mins early so we could eat before the show, and we were the second group in our theater and placed our food order on the app 30 mins before the show thinking, oh we'll eat before it starts. But it seemed like they served everyone their meals at the same time, even people who came later. Which was 5 mins before the movie which means I sat for 25ish minutes just in my seat with not even my app to snack on and then had to eat a burger in the dark quietly so my chewing didn't prevent me from hearing the movie. Also they didn't have the sugar free options all on the freestyle machine to have brought to you, so I had to go downstairs to order and get my soda. Which was whatever since I had 25 mins of nothing. The food was actually really enjoyable, I had a burger and fried pickles but I wish we could have had it atleast 10 mins before the feature film started. And then they don't bus the plates so the whole movie you are sitting with your dirty plate trying not to knock it over. My seat did not recline, it must be broken which is annoying and also these seats don't have foot rest. I will not come back and now I understand why it was bought out and no one is ever at the lux level.
