Aguadito de Pollo
Wendy B.

Today was supposed to be an empanada run and then a breakfast outing nearby, already chosen. But we saw Kausa's sign next door and found ourselves caught up by the fascinating menu and some pretty spicy cha cha music that pierced the morning air. We were hooked. Nice menu, and a pretty adorable server who spoke little English. That's OK. I spotted things on the menu I knew I would love. After all, this is not my first Peruvian rodeo! Aguadito de Pollo - aka a green chicken soup. The broth is incredibly green, the result of pulverized cilantro to which have been added generous amounts of chicken, rice, vegetables, Peruvian corn, ginger. Lovely tasting, and welcoming on a Winter's day. The bowl was huge. Half was destined to come home with me. Tamales peruano, chicken. My personal favorite amongst all tamales from our southern neighbors, the masa is more refined, tender and moist. The masa was seasoned impeccably and had tender chunks of chicken throughout, not to mention the mandatory black olive and slice of hard boiled egg on top, all wrapped in a rectangle with a banana leaf, then steamed. Mmmmm. So good! Perfecto. Lastly, the Milanesa de pollo. This is an entire boneless chicken breast that has been breaded with delicate panko crumbs, and perfectly fried to keep the chicken very moist and tender. It covered the entire platter, but was served with rice and some insanely perfect fries that I dare anyone to just eat one. This comes highly recommended. The crowning touch was the thinly sliced red onions that have been soaked to remove the harsh onion flavor then marinated in lime juice. These came with the tamale and the milanesa and are completely irresistable. Yes, eat them with abandon! This was a great discovery. Even though the dining area is just a few tables, I have no hesitation in saying we will enthusiastically return with our family in tow.

Cool little spot. Limited seating. Familiar menu items you'll feel right at home. The flavor was a little lacking for us. Definitely need some salsa or spicy something. Carb to meat ratio was not balanced. Much room for growth and adjustments to make each dish shine! Gotta get a grandmas touch of luv to excel some flavor profiles. Plenty of parking right in front with nearby eateries and shopping markets.

Lomo Saltado / Sautéed Loin

Came here because of the super good reviews and was really looking forward to trying this place out. I was not a fan though, the meat was super chewy and had no flavor. The cost was $20.99. It wasn't a bad portion size but it lacked flavor so I wouldn't get it again. Also, the green sauce was super watery, I've never had it like that.

Ceviche de Mariscos / Seafood Ceviche, Lomo Saltado / Sautéed Loin, Chaufa Especial / Special Chaufa, fried plantains

My mom and I found this place by chance, just searching for some ceviche... and what a find!!! The ceviche was fantastic and we couldn't resist but ordering more food. After trying their chicken Chaufa (fried rice) and the fried plantains, we got convinced that this will be one of our regular weekend lunch spots! The place is small but the service makes it up! If you are looking for authentic Peruvian food, you should definitely try this one. :)

This is a really small restaurant (pretty much hole in a wall) with limited seating but the food is pretty good. I came here on a search for the Peruvian green sauce I've craved from a Peruvian place I tried in Irvine over 10 years ago. The Irvine one was pretty spicy, but this one was sadly not. That being said, I really liked their version of the green sauce where it has somewhat of a smoky flavor to it. In terms of the food, I had the Tallarines Verdes Lomo Saltado while my partner got the beef chaufa (pretty much fried rice). I really liked my dish and the creaminess and flavors. It was very saucy with a lot of basil. In addition, the meat was tender and also well seasoned without relying on salt to be front and centers I tried a little bit of the chaufa and it was definitely good, though it wouldn't have been my choice (partner loves fried rice though). I think the biggest downside is the heaviness of the food since there was a lot of butter or cream in the Tallarines verdes. In addition, the fried rice is definitely shiny (though it was delicious). I think also if you are short on time, order ahead and take it to go, as they make it upon order.

Great spot for lunch! Super delicious. Loved the chaufa. Inca Kola is being served here as well.

I saw that a new Peruvian place opened up. I chose to get a lomo Salvadoran ($17.99) and a chicha morada ($3.99). A bit warm inside. The lomo saltado was tender and seasoned nicely. The fries were crispy with plenty of sliced onions and tomatoes. Their menu has a good selection. The staff was nice, seating area is intimate.

Really can't go wrong with Peruvian food. Although this is the third time this specific location has switched owners/name, the food seems to just get better. Kausa has some unique offerings that I haven't had the chance to try. The kausa acevichada is like a stacked potato salad with ceviche..sounds interesting but is actually a pretty good lunch appetizer. The seafood lomo saltado contained a generous amount of slightly battered seafood. My friends have never had tallerin verde before and they loved it. Their green sauce isn't creamy and more green but still the perfect accompaniment to the food. They have lots of drinks and some dessert options as well. The place has minimal seating and some outdoor seating.

This is not what an authentic ceviche plate looks like ! Like where's the lettuce where's the camote No cancha !

Regarding the service, it was average, and could be improved by the servers checking in more frequently to refill drinks and see if customers need anything thing else. It's not uncommon we have to flag them down. Otherwise, another above average experience. Regarding the interior, it remains in good condition.

We need to have a serious talk about the absolute wizardry happening right under your noses. ‍ I almost didn't write this review. I seriously debated gatekeeping this spot because I'm terrified that once you all find out about it, the line will be wrapped around the block and I'll never get a table again. But, my therapist tells me I need to be more "sharing," so here we are. This place is the definition of a Hidden Gem. And the man running the show? Lucho. We need to protect Lucho at all costs. Not only is he the owner, but he is also a culinary artist and arguably the one of the nicest human being in the Inland Empire. I have rolled in with a big party (don't ask, long day), and despite the space being on the smaller, cozy side, Lucho didn't blink. He helped us fit everything in like a game of Tetris. The place is spotless, by the way. You could eat off the floor, but please don't, because the plates are much better. A Warning/Disclaimer: If you are in a rush and need food in 3 minutes, go to a drive-thru. This is not fast food; this is fresh food. Everything is made to order. There are no sad heat lamps here keeping burgers warm since 10 AM. Relax, sit down, and wait. It is worth every single tick of the clock. Let's talk about the food (I'm getting emotional just typing this): The Lomo Saltado (The Star): I have eaten Lomo Saltado all over. But Lucho's? It's a flavorful experience. He cooks the steak to absolute perfection--tender, juicy, no chewing gum texture here. But the magic is in the seasoning and how it hits those fries and onions. It is worth every penny. I would pay double. Don't tell him that. Aeropuerto de Pollo (Chicken Fried Rice): I know, I know. You're thinking, "It's just chicken fried rice." WRONG. Stop it. It sounds crazy to rave about rice, but this dish is savory, smoky, and addictive. I planned to eat a few bites and take the rest home. I failed. I ate it all. The Chow Mein: Traditional? Yes. Boring? Absolutely not. There is a "minor twist" in the flavor profile that I can't quite put my finger on, but it makes the dish absolutely sing. It's out of this world. Mar y Tierra: If you can't decide between surf or turf, get this. It's the best of both worlds and plated beautifully. I love small businesses like this. You aren't just eating ingredients; you are literally tasting the love and hard work Lucho puts into the pan. It's rare, it's special, and it's delicious. Go visit Lucho. Tip him well. And tell him I said hi and to sing you a song.

This dish can readily serve two. My guest had the Tallarin Saltado de Carne, which was similar to the de Marisco dish, only with asada rather than seafood. It was a huge serving, with over half coming home for later. The table included the green peruvian ahi sauce and some warm bread rolls. The sauce was nice and spicy and the rolls were slightly toasted and served hot. The bread helped mop up the outstanding sauce on the mariscos dish. Of course, Inca Cola was available and a great accompaniment to Tallarin Saltado. Prices are flat out amazing and late lunch service on a Sunday was spot on. The food and table service warrant 5 stars, but the business practice of charging a 4% fee to use the credit card is downright shameful. If this fee was disclosed, it was clearly not obvious. The Empanada was filled with seasoned beef, olives, and hard boiled eggs. The filling was flavorful although the crust was more tender than crisp. Pollo Saltado consisted of a large portion of tender, boneless chicken, stir fried with French fries and onion and served with steamed rice. It was delicious accompanied by the rice but was very salty from the soy sauce by itself. (This is an extremely common occurrence with this particular dish due to the varying salinity level of different soy sauce brands.)
