On our way home from an event, had a long drive, we were starving, yelped restaurants... this one came up... hmmm Peruvian food sounds great! The place is small, but full, they tell us we have to wait about 30 mins, they call us in about 15 mins later, wonderful! Love it when we get called before the expected time. We all got Lomo Salgado with either rice or linguine, because apparently that's what we were all craving. For appetizer we got papa à la huancaina, delicious and settled our hunger a bit. I typically go for the lomo saltado with plantains, yucca, and I get their little cookies to go. They do have a ceviche trio plate this is a burst of freshness in your mouth. What a fantastic Peruvian spot. Came here randomly for lunch. Ordered to go. Cute little restaurant in an unassuming plaza. There aren't many Peruvian sports in the area so I've had my eye on Picante for a while and I'm kicking myself for not coming sooner. Ceviche - husband got the ceviche and said it was ok. I think maybe he was looking for something with a little more punch in flavor but liked that it was well made and fresh. Papas - these were really good. Potatoes were cooked to perfection. Nice thick, creamy slices. The sauce good. Just the right amount of seasoning to not be overpowering. Really creamy. I could eat a whole plate to myself. Tellarin Verde con Lomo - the star of the show. First of all, the steak was packed with wok hey. You could really taste the smokiness, which is key, in my opinion. Onions and peppers were equally cooked well. The linguine with the pesto was chef's kiss. The pesto sauce was just right. Balanced and paired perfectly with the lomo. I so much prefer this to the fries. The aji verde sauce had a nice citrusy punch with good heat. The spiciness doesn't linger, which is perfect. Really acts as the perfect brightness to cut through the rich meat and starch. Defiantly my new go-to Peruvian spot going forward. This spot is honestly some of the best Peruvian food I've ever had. My girl ordered their pesto pasta with steak and I ordered the steak. Everything was so delicious. We came in at 8:30 and they closed at nine but they were so welcoming. We were the only ones on a Thursday night. The atmosphere is nice. I really liked the decor and the music. Delicious! Sabrosisimo! My friend and I were looking for new food to try. Months ago we saw Picante on Yelp but the pictures of the menu at the time left us underwhelmed. The pictures now are so much better! It's a cozy location with vibrant art on the walls, tables along one wall. The staff, especially George were so kind; offering suggestions as we'd never had Peruvian food. The suggestions were fantastic! I won't tell you what they were so that you're open to all of it but everything we saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing and the portions are generous! My friends came down from Philly so it was the perfect opportunity so we ordered over $100 worth of food to go. Since I had to wait a little longer than expected I was offered a drink on the house. We ordered chaufa de pollo, lomo saltado, yuca con huancaina, empanada pollo, empanada carne, aji de gallina, and aji verde. The chaufa de pollo is basically a Peruvian version of fried rice, they have no making fried rice this delicious, seriously tasted better than Thai Chinese fried rice. Bomb. Lomo saltado is probably what they're known for, basically a Peruvian version of Vietnamese shaken beef, that too was freaking awesome. The beef was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Just wow. Empanadas 10/10. The green sauce the aji verde is spicy so be careful, my buddies ate it and they looked like they were sunburned instantly. They're white lol. Our least favorite dish was the Ali de gallina, their version of curry. I was expecting something like Thai curry but it ended up being super cheesy, something I'm not used to. Anyway, is you're in the Ontario area or just got discharged from kaiser Ontario, come give this place a try. I promise you won't regret it. 10/10 service 10/10 food. Picante is a Peruvian restaurant that I had an opportunity to experience about three years ago when they first opened. I thought I reviewed them, but I couldn't locate my review. Oh well...after dining there recently, I feel the quality of the food is still great and deserves another review. Six of us dinned here tonight and man, we all enjoyed our meals. My wife is a native of Peru and I've enjoyed many a meal cooked from her family members. I feel I'm a pretty good judge. The service here is top notch. The Lomo Saltaldo, a Peruvian restaurant signature dish, was great, Tender cuts of beef over sautéed red onions and tomatoes, with a scoop of rice and fries. Tallarin Saltado de pollo, linguine pasta with sautéed chicken, red onions, tomato, cilantro, green onions and in a delicious garlic and oyster sauce. The combination is heavenly. Tallarin Verde con Lomo, is the same , but served with beef instead of chicken over green pasta . Oh, so, good. Lomo A La Huancaina, linguine pasta cooked in a Huancaina sauce (like melted cheese), with tender cuts of delicious Lomo Saltado beef. This too was Devine. It's been a while since we had good Peruvian food . One of our chef friends recommended Picante to us. They open at 10:30am. We didn't have breakfast so we were pretty hungry by the time we arrived at 11am. The interior is simple and quaint with cool murals on the wall when you enter. We shared the Anticuchos de corazon to start. It was my first time having it but with the way the season and grill it, I just thought it was steak . We both got our "go to" Peruvian dishes; Lomo Saltado for me and Tallarin Verde con Lomo for my husband . We ate every last bit of our food, so delicious. Service was also super friendly. 10/10 -- Picante, you have NO business being this good. So listen... I walked into Picante fully prepared to have mixed feelings. The wait time was 45 minutes and I thought, "Okay, this food better change my life or at least buy me flowers." But baby... when I tell you that food BLEW ME THROUGH THE ROOF? Came to Picante on a Thursday night for take out, plenty of parking, there's inside and outside seating; they do online orders as well! We ordered the Tallarin Verde Lomo (pesto), Tallarin a Huancaina and the 3 appetizer sampler which contained a large portion of ceviche, arroz chaufa con mariscos (seafood rice) and chicharron de pescado (fried fish). Portions are generous! Personally I was able to eat my Huancaina pasta for two meals because of the amount of noodles and meat they provided. I was worried about the size of the meat chunks possibly becoming dry but even the smallest pieces were juicy and paired wonderfully with the green sauce they provide (they gave us so much sauce I was able to have extra to dip with other foods). The pesto was a solid dish, but I really liked my Huancaina pasta, the sauce was absolutely delicious and cheesy and the tomatoes and onions with the steak went really well together. The chicharron was soft by the time we brought it home, but it was really delicious with the tartar sauce and onion salsa--I'm sure it's even more delectable when it maintains the crisp. Fried rice portion was generous and had a beautiful smoky flavor from the wok. We appreciated the generous portion of ceviche with plenty of the fish which was tender and perfectly chewy, loved the crunchy nut kernals that complimented the dish really well. The sweet potato and peruvian corn were so good too. Honestly the best Peruvian food I've had thus far (I've only had a few chances but this one definitely takes #1 for me!). Others in our party ordered the lomo saltado & my dad got the lamb shank and I love the pasta with the yellow sauce & beef. Omg, the first bite & I was in love! Signature lomo noodle is creamy, the lomo(beef) was very tender. Highly recommend all of the lomo items on the menu. The marination on the beef is a little bit on the saltier side but the seasoning and flavor was fantastic. My lady ordered the lomo with rice and fries. The website asked for reservations so I was surprised to see that it was a small, quaint place with lots of character, but reservations were not required for a lunch. My co-worker and I really love lomo saltido and so we tried this place out who happens to specialize in this Peruvian delight. The server came to our table to take our order and we ordered our drinks and food. The food came out quickly. It was delicious. The fries were mind-blowing, the meat and meat sauce with the rice were lovely. Both my co-worker and I decided we'd come back for sure. Great vibe and great food. Yelp was not wrong about Picante! We happened to be in the area hoping to go to Soup an' Fresh but the line was down the street so we decided to skip it. We wanted to grab a bite to eat and checked Yelp for foodie locations. This was in the top 10 so off we went. It's located in a large shopping plaza so parking is easy. As soon as we walked up to the door we could see it was jam packed with a single two seater table open - it was perfect! The hostess who was also our server was so sweet and put our order in right away. What we got: Chaufa Con Carne: 10/10! It was flavorful, the rice was cooked to perfection, the steak was tender, flavorful and the serving size was generous! They added pickled chili and radishes to the dish. Definitely kicks the dish up a notch Lomo Saltado: 10/10! The fries were crispy and fresh, the sauce was incredibly savory, the steak was also tender and flavorful and even the plain white rice was perfect.
