I've been reading some things about the Kava Haus. It is unique. Side door entrance which is N. Lincoln St. So I thought I had to try it. Cutesy place. Not as quiet and peaceful as mentioned in other's experiences here. But I got mine to go so it doesn't matter. The place was busy so it took a little while to receive my order. The younger ones are handling the service. I am pretty sure that you have to get your own, after you placed and paid for your order, if sitting in. I will say I ended up getting three paid for scones, but NOT the two that I had originally ordered. I guess they didn't really listen too well. On the positive side the scones were very fresh and tasted delicious. They told me for optimal taste to heat them up in the microwave for 30 seconds on high (too long). I probably would come back, we're visiting the area from out of town for an event. read more

What a sweet (literally) place! I had found myself in the area and couldn't resist going into this cute home turned coffeehouse. The ambiance here is great--laidback and antiquey--and the staff was friendly. I went ahead and got their "bestseller" the Grogg with oat milk. It's definitely a sweet one with nice caramel notes and went down smooth. I couldn't help but grab a cinnamon roll to which my surprise they also offered one with fresh sliced apples chopped in it. SO decadent! I'm had to save half for later. I stayed and read a book by the fireplace and melted in the comfy chairs. This must be a treat for the town and college, I would definitely be coming here on a regular basis if I lived in town! A good one to keep note of when in the area. Kava Haus is the best place in Wilmington for coffee. It's the only one that's not a chain. The inside is nice but it's hard to get a seat. It's close to the college. This means it's usually filled with students and staff. It's in a nice looking old building. It's close to Wilmington College. There were a lot of college students in their having coffee or in the kitchen working. It's expected. This is one of the few places in town for them to hang out. I had a mocha with coconut. It's about $3.50 for the regular size. The coffee was hot and strong, not watery. It doesn't have much in the way of food. They do have cinnamon rolls. Pretty much the only place in Wilmington for coffee. Inside is a nice place but it can get kind of loud if you are wanting to either read or study. read more

I stopped here because I needed the caffeine for my drive home and I needed wifi - luckily they had both. Not from the area, so I was glad to find it. It's the only coffee shop in the area apparently. I opted for the mocha and forgot to tell them no whip. The mocha itself was pretty average to be honest but it was less than $4 for 12 oz. Locals popped in and out while I sat on my laptop sipping my mocha. It seemed fairly lively which makes sense. The staff was pleasant and helpful and the entire experience was lovely and quaint. read more

So literally paid 4(!) usd for 2 shots of (semi-) watery espresso and another 4 oz of milk which they steamed to 16(!!) Oz. The cup was so light that i thought they forgot something. I walked back up to the counter and really politely asked for another shot to get at least something into the huge cup which is not even half full and Ashley said it would be an extra charge and walked off... So much for customer service. It's really sad because i wanted to like that place, mainly because of the furniture and the fireplace but rudeness draws the line here and can not be tolerated. So i recommend literally ANY other coffeeshop (try Kairo) then Kava Haus. The kids in there do not know customer service and nobody tells you a cappuccino is airy milk and no coffee. Go some other place. And Ashley - i would like you to experience what you did to me today at some point and maybe rethink your attitude. read more

Overall this is a great coffee shop in Wilmington. The vibe is great, it's clean and the coffee and tea options are great. If you need to get some work done and are looking for a comfortable environment that offers free wi-fi this is definitely the place to go and beats hanging out at a Starbucks any day. The staff was very friendly and provided great service. I was only disappointed in the way the owner/manager treats his staff. As a customer I shouldn't witness an employee being treated negatively because the manager is not satisfied with their performance. No one deserves to be humiliated while customers are in the store. Overall I thought the way he communicated his staff was very negative and not close to how a manager should treat his employees. Additionally, he was also rude to a young man he interviewed while being overly friendly to a young female he had interviewed prior. read more

Scone lover - I am there for the noms! I've bought several types of their coffee for coworkers and family, though I don't drink it myself. I'm their for the scones! I wasn't in love with the breakfast sammie I ordered one day, but that was a matter of personal preference, as opposed to quality of production. If you like to brew at home, pick up a bag of their whole bean roasted coffee and keep it in the freezer. I'll update my review after I've taken their lunch for a test drive. This is my favorite coffee shop in our quaint little town. They have delicious coffee, the best scones I've ever tasted, great soup and focaccia bread. If you stop out on Saturday's - try their homemade oven fire pizza - one of a kind! On top of great coffee, baked goods, and food, it is ran by a great team of people. Brad (the owner) is very personable, and goes our of his way to get to know you and your family. My husband and I stop in at least a few time each week. I love love love Kava Haus! It is the perfect addition to the town of Wilmington! First, the shop location is on a side street but don't let that stop you from going in! When you enter, the atmosphere is calm and peaceful. There are couches and tables to choose from and the seats close to the fire are great when it's cold out. Play a game of chess while you are catching up with a friend! Sometimes, there is live music. You'll hear new songwriters testing the waters or just some instruments playing some tunes! Now for the coffee-I'm not super picky but I tend to like the same things. Kava is great for saying, here's what I like, what can you make? They have a whole bunch of different syrups, several milk options and hot and cold drinks. They always have some sort of seasonal menu and they also offer teas and steamers. There are 2 sizes to pick from. Got the kids?? Choose from juice, milk or one of their many hot chocolate flavors. My kids' favorite is the Chocolate Hot Chocolate. Ask for it. It will make the owner laugh. Also offered at Kava are fresh made sweet scones-usually 2-4 different kinds a day. Get them warned up. Trust me. They are so big that you will either save some for later or just need a nap after! There is also a savory scone as well! I'm telling you, so so good! During the week, the owners fix up some awesome varieties of soup and bread. This yelper's favorite is French Onion with Jarlsberg bread. O. M. G. It is phenomenal! Saturday is my favorite day. If you've made it this far in the review, go to Kava on Saturday morning for the BEST cinnamon roll you've ever had. EVER. These are hand rolled the night before and baked in the morning. Saturday's only though so they might run out-get there early! Like even talking about them makes my mouth water! Also, if the weather cooperates, they roll the Pizza oven out and make small artisan pizzas to order. I mean, you can't go wrong here!
