Stopped into this little sushi place next to Publix in Ocala for lunch on a work trip. There was a bench on it with people outside, which I assumed was for this location, but it must not have because there was no one inside. I sat down and was greeted by my waitress. She was nice, but quick to the point. I needed a few minutes, but ordered a water in the meantime. I decided to go with the lunch special with a ginger salad. Almost immediately following my order, the salad came out. It was great, cold, and crisp. They loaded on the ginger dressing, which I was happy about. I ordered a few rolls and they came out shortly after. The place was quiet so it was nice to get able to get some work done there. I got the bill and the price was super reasonable. My wife and I went on a noble lunchtime quest for sushi and ended up at Aki Sushi. She played it safe with a volcano roll and miso soup. I rolled the dice on their $9.95 lunch special -- two rolls and soup or salad. Naturally, I chose the spicy tuna and shrimp tempura rolls with onion soup, because balance. Now, let's talk value. For under ten bucks, you get sushi, soup, and a moment of peace -- that's already a win in this economy. The flavor was solid, ingredients were fresh, but the rolls themselves were a bit on the fun-sized side. A little more rice wouldn't hurt -- not asking for sumo rolls, just something more substantial than a sushi suggestion. Service was quick, friendly, and didn't involve anyone saying "we're out of that," which in itself is a minor miracle these days. Bottom line: Aki Sushi won't blow your mind, but it won't break your wallet either. Great for a quick fix when you're craving sushi and a break from adulting. read more

It's good sushi. I enjoy ordering from there. I love their sashimi roll. That is my absolute favorite.

Not authentic. Tempura appetizer ouzing with oil. Batter not well done. Sushi dinner and chirashi was a big disappointment. Oion soup has beef broth in it. Taste of each slice of fish was pretty much the same. No character and texture was horrible. This is not fresh. we wil not be back. read more

I don't know what happened to Aki Sushi. It's gone so far downhill since the last time we ate there I can't believe it's still in business. We ordered six rolls (basic ones, not fancy), onion soup, spring rolls and a side of noodles which was about $46 with the tip. The first thing I noticed was the three spring rolls were now two and the side of sweet chili sauce amounted to about half a teaspoon. I hate it when restaurants are cheap with their condiments! Build it into the price if you're so worried about condiment costs! These spring rolls were $2 each and you can't afford to give me a small side of sweet chili sauce? It's not like there was any labor involved - these were two frozen spring rolls they dropped in the fryer. Then the noodles - first of all, this was a small amount (usually with a side of noodles or rice they pack the container full) and these noodles were banging around in the half-empty to-go container. The noodles were greasy and until I seasoned them myself had ZERO flavor. The restaurant didn't send any soy sauce either (for the sushi) so I had to use my own. The onion soup also tasted completely flat - no flavor at all. Like boiled water with a couple of mushroom slices. Then the sushi - no flavor! Not in the sushi rice, the nori, the wasabi was even tasteless. How can you even make sushi that tastes like nothing? But then, in the yellowtail roll - A BONE! In all my many years of eating sushi I have never encountered a fish bone in any sushi. It's simply never occurred. What a colossal disappointment. The quality of Aki Sushi is subpar - no care or concern was put in anything they served us, no seasoning, no flavor, everything was small, cheaply made and put together. There was no level of quality. Needless to say, we will not have a return visit, nor should anyone waste their time and money on their lousy food. Sushi in Ocala is made for those who have never had sushi before and would like to experience Japanese cuisine. I was hesitant to try raw fish in the neighborhood because my expectations were low. I decided to try the Naruto .. my fault for not reading the menu carefully. The naruto is a tuna, salmon, avocado, and imitation crab wrapped in cucumber. I read to quickly and thought cucumber was inside.. wouldn't have ordered it. The lion king is a cooked roll with a hint of spice. I don't think cream cheese belongs in sushi but majority of the menu seems to disagree. read more

My family loves Aki for takeout. We do occasionally dine in and sometimes find that there is a wait because there is limited space. Placed an online order, received a confirmation text. Showed up to pick up the order 20 min later and the waiter had no clue about the order even when I showed the confirmation message. Told me to wait 10 min and they would have it ready. Came back 10 min later and they still hadn't started on the order. Waited almost an hour for this whole process. Let me start by saying I've eaten here via delivery, pick up, and in the restaurant more than 15 times. The general consensus of their food is that it's good, great fried sushi, and on the cheaper side. However, the last 3 or so times I ordered delivery or pick up I had asked for yum yum sauce (which of course we paid for) and only ever got half or less of a plastic sauce cup full. This evening four of us decided to order for pick up. We got four meals and a spring roll. We all asked for fried rice (they give you white rice if you do not specific) except for one who asked for noodles. We wrote in every "special instructions" area to please include full yum yum sauces (since hey, we are paying for it!), but of course we did not get a single yum yum sauce that was more than half full or less. Not only that, but one of the orders did not get fried rice as requested and ALL of the veggies were basically raw. Hard broccoli and carrots that we couldn't even grab with a fork. The icing on this hot mess of a cake was that we got two tiny packets of soy sauce that I guess they expected us to split between 4 meals and a sushi roll. This was just pitiful. This has been our favorite sushi spot since we found it many years ago. Highly recommend the Golden Roll for a fun hot and cold in your mouth at the same time experience. My son loves it and I really can't get him to order anything else at this point. All of your traditional favorites are fabulous. I wish they had Hiabtchi Bento box selection. The steak with bean sprout WAS THE BEST, California roll was warm so a bit weird. Miso soup was very water down like 80% water 20% miso. The chicken fried rice is bit dry but ok. The cucumber salad had no cucumbers in it. Plenty of chopped lettuce, though? The chirashi, aka "a bowl of rice with fish on top everywhere else in the known universe," was not in a bowl, with the rice and fish holding a very tense standoff on opposite sides of the plate. The house salad came out after the entree, drowning in dressing. Straight iceberg lettuce. Can a brother get a tomato slice? Cucumber? Red onion slice? Anything? I asked for water and never got any. My fiance and I used to go there a lot. After a few times of it being under par (fish didn't taste fresh, ginger dressing was not great). We decided to go elsewhere. Now, 3 years later, a friend of mine went and it was wonderful. The soft shell crab appetizer was better than before. Lite and more crab. Ginger dressing was quite good. Sushi was fresh. The staff is great. The food cost-effective. With calories being so low (if you order correctly) sushi is always a smart move; especially here. They have been very flexible with our unique orders. Okay so a friend girl and I are crashing for the night in Ocala. We were both craving sushi, so after 45 minutes of browsing Yelp we gambled and decided on this place. Dinner was early so we were a bit skeptical about only 4 other people dining here. The decor was surprisingly modern (I thought the mirrored wall was a nice idea.) the dining area was clean and there was zero fishy smell (a requirement for a sushi place).Our waitress was friendly. I ordered the seaweed salad, she ordered some chopped sashimi salad with vinegar and sesame that was delicious. We ordered the rainbow roll, crazy roll and the spider roll. All the items had a beautiful presentation and I loved that the crazy roll was wrapped in soy paper. My only critique was that the rainbow roll was wrapped a little loose but everything was delicious and hit the spot. We would definitely come back to this place - loved the sushi! read more
