My girlfriend and I have been seeing Lu Ann for about four years now, we followed her to this office and we will follow her wherever she goes. She is truly talented, and innovative with injection placements. She not only fills in any deficits, but she literally sculpts my cheeks and chin. BAIT AND SWITCH OFFICE!!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! I came here on a recommendation for my annual check up. I called the office and they said they take my insurance (Blue Cross). When I saw the doctor (Dr. Bak), she tells me under my insurance, I get FREE extraction done and she said I can come in for as many body extraction as I would like. I only did one extraction as it turns out to be pretty useless and I don't have time to keep going into the office. The doctor also ordered some blood work done which they can NOT combine the appointments together for both extraction and blood work result. Turns out, they are not a Blue Cross in-network office AND each office visit cost me $100!!! The extraction was NOT free and to tell me my blood work result was "normal" cost me yet another $100!!! $100 just to tell me my blood work results?!?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! I wish they had told me the bill BEFORE seeing the doctor. Had I know it was going to cost me $100 PER VISIT, I would not had come here. Such a shady business tactics. SHAME ON YOU!!! For my friends who recommended me your service, I will let them know what a shady business you run!! And if you think you'll see Dr. Martin Kay, forget it. He will not see you unless you're rich and loaded. I should had known this is a bad office when the first time I went in, some lady was so angry that she was told she would be seeing Dr. Martin Kay only to then find out when she got there she will get his daughter instead. read more

BEWARE: worse service I've EVER had at a doctor's office. I paid $350 for an IPL procedure that gave me 0 results, the tech, Nancy that did it was distracted, in a hurry, and not paying attention; after the mandatory 2 week wait for an "assessment" Nancy admitted that she didn't use a high enough setting but that I would have to pay an additional $150 for a "touch up." I should have known it was a scam and not paid the additional money but hoped she would get it right the second time. I told her I shouldn't have to pay the additional fee but I didn't have any choice after she said the office manager, Carlos insisted. For the second time Nancy was distracted, she didn't seem to know what she was doing, and clearly in a hurry. I got ZERO results. After 2 weeks I came in the "assessment" and after reviewing the before and after pics and seeing the situation even Dr. Kay admitted that the results were not as they should be, so they scheduled me a third appointment. I spoke to Dr. Kay about Nancy's behavior and he admitted they had an issue with her performance and that she had been put on leave so another person would do the third procedure. Two days before the 3d try I spoke to the office manager, Carlos and asked nicely if he would please consider giving me a $150 credit, that I'd had this procedure done previously by another doctor and knew what the results should be and that even Doctor Kay agreed that the results from Nancy's work were not correct. I suggested that I should not be asked to pay the additional $150 for a procedure that had not been done correctly the first time. Carlos was rude and only kept repeating their "legal" rights based on the papers I signed. He would not listen to anything I said; he was condescending, very defensive and rude for NO reason. I never raised my voice, I was never rude and only asked that they do the right thing. I never got a call to confirm my 3d appointment so I called the morning of my appointment to confirm and was told that Carlos had cancelled my appointment and when I asked to make an appointment with Dr. Kay I was told that I had been "discharged!" I asked to speak with Carlos or Dr. Kay and was told again that I had been "discharged" and no one would speak with me. Clearly they had my $500 and wanted nothing more to do with someone that was on to their scam! To add insult to injury, I had to pay a $50 "copay" after each "assessment" and for each procedure, plus parking! In addition, I had gone to Dr. Kay for other issues like a bump on a vein in my leg. All they did was send in Dr. Kay's daughter to give me an estimate for a vein procedure and when Dr. Kay came in, he just told me not to worry about the bump on my leg, it was probably just a "fat deposit". Clearly all they cared about was selling me an expensive procedure and getting office fees. They should have refunded my $500 and done the IPL procedure correctly at no charge but instead I was "discharged"! Stay far away from this place! I paid a total of $500 with zero results and lost of 3 days salary. Clearly there is NO EXCUSE for the unprofessional behavior by this doctor or his "office manager "and their unbelievably bad customer service. The rating for this place should be zero! read more

A real dermatologist would do a full body check. I am a runner and expressed a desire to have my back checked. He said " do you run without a top"? And then snickered. I had gone to the office for a mole that was growing. I saw the pa and was told to come back for removal. I came back and the dr Said oh this is nohing.,.i said then why am I here. He said " you have an authorization to cut off two things? Well?. What shall we cut off.? I demanded my money back and had to make a scene to get it back. Not a fan. Saw Dr. Bak. I posted this under her yelp heading but maybe I should have put this under Kay Aesthetic's page. Saw Dr. Bak and she's nice but she's not a dermatologist. She's a family medicine doctor PRETENDING to be a dermatologist. By the way, what's with all these family medicine or internists in Southern California calling themselves dermatologists?? Anyway, I went to her at the advice of a friend who lives in Burbank. I was going to be in the area for a few days for work anyway. I have a skin condition and want a doctor who knows skin disease. Dr. Bak is NOT knowledgable. She seemed very nice but it was painfully obvious that she didn't know about my disease. Really, if I want another family medicine doctor's opintion of my skin disease, I would go to my family medicine doctor! Felt like I threw my time and money down the drain again since I have seen several "dermatologists" in the last couple of years who are actually family doctors. Makes me annoyed that they are allowed to say they are dermatologists and waste my time. On their website they don't mention her training and don't have her resume. Probably because she doesn't have training! Very dishonest stuff going on. Now everytime I go to a skin doctor, I ask "is he a board certified dermatologist"? If the answer is no, then I don't go. Sheesh. And while I was in the waiting area, one of the patients was complaining about Dr. Kay--apparently the real dermatologist in the group. Didn't sound like I was missing much by not seeing him either... the whole visit, from the waiting room to the interaction with the check-in lady to the checking out felt disappointing. Dr. Kay is a good doctor, but this review is strictly about the rudeness behavior of Dr. Kay's staff. Dr. Kay: I wish you would communicate with your staff about their attitude, because we were going to your office for almost 3 years, but after a few ran in with your staff I took my whole family else where! I will not bore anyone reading the details of my reviews, because if you have read other reviews giving negative comments to his staff then mine is basically the same. I had to wait an hour and a quarter to see the doctor. When I finally got to see her, she was thorough and kind. She seemed skilled and knowledgable. She thought I needed a biopsy. I told her I had to leave in half an hour. She said it wouldn't take that long and we could do it. The nurse gave me an injection to numb my skin while the doctor got busy with another patient. The doctor didn't come back within a half an hour to finish my procedure before I had to leave. I had now been in the office for well over two hours. I asked the nurse to please let the doctor know I had to leave in 5 minutes. The nurse refused to tell the doctor because the doctor was in with a patient. I explained. She didn't budge. I left with my face numb and no biopsy because I had a child waiting for me and, for the safety of the child, could not be late. I called and left a message for the doctor to call me. She did. We had a very helpful conversation. I explained why I had to leave. I also, very gently, told her I was frustrated about waiting over an hour and a quarter to see her when I was one of the first appointments after lunch. She told me she never even takes a lunch break. I realize she works very hard and spends a lot of time with each patient, so I decided to give the office a second chance, even after reading all the negative Yelp reviews. A few weeks later, I called to reschedule the biopsy. They had no record that I needed a biopsy and said I would have to come in for a consultation again before scheduling the biopsy because nothing in the notes said I needed a biopsy. I explained what happened. The nurse still refused to schedule a biopsy appointment for me without another new consultation. The idea of spending another 2 hours and $50 co-pay to be told to come in on another day for a biopsy was infuriating. When I said to please talk to the doctor and call me back to reschedule, I never got a return call. I called twice and left messages. No return call. Nurses were very curt and unhelpful. My husband had the same experience of not getting phone calls returned. He is (WAS) a patient with a DIFFERENT doctor in the office. My husband needed his skin prescription refilled and tried several times to no avail. Unacceptable. I think they're over-scheduled and need to cut back on how many patients they see per hour in order to give good treatment to their patients. And hire new nurses. This is the first time I've ever left a negative review. Judging by the other review, I suppose I'm not alone. read more

I was a bit gun shy as I came here for laser hair removal after a terrible experience elsewhere which resulted in burnt sensitive areas. Imagine my surprise when both my underarms and bikini line sessions were relatively painless (rubber band snapping on skin comes to mind). Great results after the first session, which got better with each session. And they have lasers for all skin tones. PLUS their dermatological services are amazing. I chose this office mostly because of location. I was a bit leary due to the overall rating and some reviews, but my experience could not have been better. I'm over fifty and fair-skinned with red hair & freckles and this was my first time seeing a dermatologist. I know..I know...bad me! I scheduled a skin cancer screening. When I called for the appointment, Leticia was kind, efficient and she immediately sent me the link for online forms to fill out in advance. She was the same when I checked in, lovely. I did not wait more than five minutes in the lobby. The nurse (sorry, didn't catch her name this time!) was also lovely and Dr. Passalacqua was kind, informative, and respectful of my modesty as she gave me a head-to-toe exam. She ended up zapping a few things and then took a few biopsies. The entire time she told me what she was doing and what to expect in the future. I'm confident that whatever biopsy results are, that this office will take good care of me. I also appreciate the fact that we focused on skin cancer treatment for this visit and no one tried to sell me a cosmetic treatment. I'm OK if they do that later, but for now, I want to focus on my health and not my asthetics. THANK YOU to this office, I'm a fan and patient for life! I'd like to make two additional comments. First, that YELP is such a great tool when looking for new medical services. I really rely on it to give me an idea of what to expect. That said, I like to think I'm pretty savvy in seeing through the less than positive comments and determining whether it's the YELPER who may be the jerk, and not the Dr. or the office staff. If you speak clearly, and more importantly, LISTEN clearly and follow directions, it will be a good experience. All these people just want to help us, and when we are pleasant, so are they. The second thing I'd like to say is how grateful I am that I am employed with decent insurance. I pay extra for an open plan that allows me to see any medical professional without referrals or extra approvals. I KNOW I'm fortunate to have this. I wish we all had this. Dr Kay is a great doctor easy to speak to. His staff isn't necessarily not friendly, but it took me 3 days to talk to someone about my prescription. Every time I called I was transferred to some line and had to leave a message. In the message I specifically told her not to call my cell because I have no service but to call my work line and two hours later I step outside and see a voicemail on my cell. Mind you, when I left the office she said my prescription would be ready in 30 minutes. Ha! Three days later is when I got the prescription faxed. read more

This office used a lab that was out of network without checking if it took our insurance and it cost us $500 due to their mistake. If you decide to use this office, double check every detail or you may end up with unexpected costs that aren't covered by insurance. Was prescribed a cream that with insurance would cost hundreds of dollars. i didnt find this out until I tried to fill it after a few months of being away unexpectedly for work. I found Dr. Kay in Early June of 2012. The staffers I spoke with on the phone the ones I in person were friendly and very helpful. The website gives you the chance to print out and fill all their forms beforehand to save time and hassle GREAT idea (and I recommend you do). Both my husband I had appointments. Once we signed in and sat down, they called us right away. Once in the actual "room" room, the visits from Doctor were great. he took the time to speak with my husband and his reason for his visit. Once my husband was done. He stepped out for a quick minute but came right back to discuss my visit. I think we spent about an hour with Dr. Kay discussing varies medical history and plan of actions.. We never had to wait more than a few minutes before Angie and the rest of the staff rotated in for the next portion of my husbands exam. I wish Dr Kay was a General Practitioner Doctor, I would make him my primary health doctor. As for the procedure, my husband went in to get some tags removed and the whole. my husband was having a bit of a melt down over having needles being injected in his armpit. After the initial sting from the anesthetic, he didn't feel a single thing. They were slicing and clipping off tags, my husband finally calmed down enough to say "Hmm. No pain, I feel nothing Wow." NOTHING! He was very happy. Dr Kay, Informed us that is was required the tags and the moles be sent to the lab testing and we wouldn't know the charge til they were tested. My visit on the other hand was more time consuming. Since our first visit I have had several moles removed and a specific mole that required a few stitches. I was awake the whole time, we talk about hiking and biking around LA and some of the places we have traveled. At the end of June I had a treatment done to help define my chin. We took pictures of the before and after and let me tell you, I am happy with the results. I have had to go back once a week to help the healing process, my neck and chin are really tight and I am told that the weekly visits will help with that. We shall see. I've been told by people that it looks like I have lost weight. People have not even noticed the area I had work done to. I am so happy with Dr. Kay, He sat with me to discuss my issues. Dr. Kay is honest with my wants and needs. It's rare to find a Doctor to be fully open to discuss options. Even on his most busy days when they are short handed Dr. Kay has found the time to say "Hello". I cannot imagine Dr. Kay having an off day but I suppose it's possible But not with me or my husband during any of our visits. We are grateful to Dr. Kay and his staff for providing a 5-star treatment to both my husband and me. His staff is extremely helpful every step of the way. AWESOME STAFF!! read more

This could very well turn into a 5star review. I'll update as soon as I've started treatment and am seeing some results. Today was my first visit, and I had to write something before I even know how it's going to work out :) The office itself is clean, and roomy. The receptionist/office staff were friendly and prompt. I had called to make an appointment with Dr. Kay himself (suggested by my primary physician who I adore) they were helpful and attentive, I ended up seeing another Dr. in the practice so I could get in earlier, just a few days after I called (and I have a crazy schedule.) I found out, with in the last year or so, that I have thyroid disease and am struggling with a treatment that works. My medications and dosages change frequently and along with all the other horrible side-effects, symptoms, as of 6 weeks ago I've been plagued with acne and bacne (yes it is as humiliating and awful as it sounds) and even some strange sudden changes to moles etc. Worse yet, I'm a mom and well past my teens, I should not be suffering with ACNE...UGH!!!! To make my problem worse, with makeup, you'd never notice a thing on my face and of course I can wear clothes to cover my back so even my closest friends have been dismissing my complaints. "I don't see anything" "you're overreacting" "it's only you that notices" blah blah blah... well NOT so when I went in to see Dr. Rachel Bak!! She was friendly and attentive, patient and compassionate! She sympathized with my situation and immediately helped lay out a plan, she also mentioned we'd keep at it until it was fixed. She was confident my skin issues were caused by the hormonal change from the medications, and seems optimistic that we'll figure out a solution soon. She was truly listening and even took an approach towards my skin based on the information that I am taking natural thyroid hormones vs. synthetic and that I don't take many other medications. She also took care of one of the strange skin lesions and got rid of a "mole" that has been worrying me for months...NO pain at all. She made it clear she did not want me spending hundreds on the medication she prescribed, gave me a coupon and said if there were any issues to call the office and they'd help me get it at a reasonable price. The PA (nurse, tech) who set me up for the mole removal and did the freezing technique for the other mole (lesion), was friendly and really knew what she was doing. I am TERRIFIED of needles and I barely felt a thing as she numbed the area. Dr. Kay knows how to run a business, he has surrounded himself with great people. I'll write an update as soon as I see any results from the medication. Wish me luck!! read more

So i used to see this other dermatologist for a couple of years then he moved to work for kaiser and i didn't want to go back to him, So i researched good dermatologist in burbank and came across Martin Kay, i read his reviews and looked pretty good, so i said I'm going to give him a try. So me and my husband made an appointment to go see him for our moles. We waited over 30 min but it was fine, then we saw the dr. Honestly Dr kay Martin was soo nice and friendly, he was taking all his time, I had many questions about mole removal procedure he honestly made me feel so comfy and put me in ease mind and said you will be fine if you remove it, it's not painful and you'll be fine.. My husband also thought he was a great dr and answered all his questions he had. Very nice man and he knows his stuff, Honestly i will not go back to my other dermatologist, he was rude, wanted you in and out of the office and he would just not like to answer any questions you had. he was always in a rush.. Dr Martin spent all his time with us and made sure we were done with our questions, and he also had great suggestions.. Will be definitely returning to get my mole removed I feel comfortable enough to have him remove it.. I never got to see the doctor. About 35 minutes after waiting for my appointment time, the receptionist informed me that it will be another 30 min or so and if I want to reschedule. I chose to just cancel. Ironically, they require you to inform them of any changes to your appointment time 48 hours ahead of time or they charge you $100 fee. This appointment, without actually seeing a doctor, cost me over an hour off of work and $7 parking. Los Angeles is full to the brim with excellent aesthetic dermatologists. I bet you can find one that will service you, the paying customer, better. read more

I have never been more insulted by a doctor's office before. The receptionist scheduled me for a day that the doctor was not even in the office. When I spoke to the office manager (Ari) and explained to him that I needed to see the doctor as soon as possible due to my SEVERE skin cancer history he was unwilling to accomodate me. He told me that it was my fault for confirming the appt. I'd never trust my health or personal records with such a careless and cold group of people. I have been going to Dr. Kay for years. He is a great doctor and has a wonderful bedside manner. He is also very compassionate. Unfortunately, his nurse Sandra should be fired. When I called for my biopsy results it took 9 days and three phone calls. My son also goes there and it took three phone calls from me and two from the pharmacy before I could get ahold of her and she could figure out what needed to be done for a simple refill. That's five phone calls! It also took five days! When I did finally get her on the phone she had an attitude. If she cannot handle her caseload, she needs to go somewhere else. If she is given more than is manageable, then Dr. Kay needs to hire additional help. read more

I went to Dr. Kay on the recommendation of a friend and it was a great experience. I appreciate that this office texts and emails to remind you about your appointment. As a busy and often forgetful Mom, this is huge for me! I liked being able to fill out all the new patient paperwork online ahead of time. I was seen right at my appointment time. The nurse who took care of me was wonderful, warm and patient and Dr. Kay himself was great. I am happy to have listened to my friend! I did park on the street more than two blocks away because I'm familiar with the area and parking is always a pain in the butt, so I don't know what the structure is like. read more

I have been going to Lu Ann for almost 12 years. She has gently maintained my appearance of fine lines and fullness in my face. The best and most admirable thing about LuAnn is that she will not allow you to turn yourself into a cyborg. She is professional, caring and makes wise suggestions so as we age, we can remain youthful without looking like we have had work done.
