Popped into Kazoku after an appointment in Edmonds because I was craving Katsu. I was in a sub-par mood, but things turned around quickly as Chef Bobby was very friendly and the shishito peppers appetizer was extremely tasty and satisfying. I ordered the Jason roll and an order of Chicken Katsu. The Jason roll was very good and I wanted more of the shishito peppers. The Katsu completely scratched my itch and it was succulent, crispy, and so good. The salads that came with it were so tasty and I found myself wishing I had more room to keep packing away more food. The restaurant was very clean and nice, and had a good vibe, especially for grabbing lunch. I left feeling happy and I'll find a reason to put myself back in Edmonds when I'm hungry and return for another round of Katsu and peppers and to try some more rolls. read more

Maybe we came on a really off day, because yelp and The Seattle Times both hold this place in high regard. I had lunch here, ordered the sushi and roll lunch combo and a shrimp tempura roll. The food was all bland and overall lacking in flavor. My wife's Chirashi bowl wasn't much better. Maybe I'll get a chance to try again, but at this price point I expect much higher quality sushi. I have been here three times.For me, I really enjoy their food. Walking in the door, I see one of my favorites, salmon Kama on the fresh sheet. I know I have order this. The crispy skin and soft salmon make this dish delicious. The sushi chefs and staff all welcome me as I come in. I have a special affection for the older sushi chef. He makes it a point to acknowledge me and watches to see if I enjoy my food. Although I cannot speak Japanese, his facial expressions make me laugh. Sometime in the future , I will sit at the sushi bar just to engage with his bright personality. My server all these time, is a young gentleman with glasses. He is slight awkward in an endearing way, seems like he has not been a waiter for long. Now onto the best part, the food. I was there today for happy hour. Restaurant was fairly empty. Ordered the shrimp rolls off the hh menu and the sashimi. Both were excellent values. Shrimp rolls were lighter and a nice quality for 5.00. The sashimi was excellent quality. I also have tried the sake flight each time I am here. I'm not familiar with sake and the three different types were great to try. I ordered miso soup. Hot and delicious, slightly salty but a nice counterpoint to my meal. Finished off with the salmon Kama. Pretty full from my meal, but the collar was soft, crispy and tasty. Came on a generous bead of greens and a nice dipping sauce. Could not stop eating this. Lunch and happy hour are some great deals for quality seafood. This place has ruined other sushi spots for me. Everything is so high quality, staff is nice, and drinks are good. I don't know if I could eat toro anywhere else. It can be a little pricey but 100% worth it for the taste. Pro tip: go to happy hour and eat spicy tuna rolls to your hearts desire. read more

First time checking out the new Kazoku (where Moto sushi used to be). Got one of the sashimi plates, nigiri combos, udon, and tonkatsu. Everything was delicious! The fish was super fresh, probably the most fresh I've had in the area with very thick cuts. Staff very friendly and hard working. We'll definitely be back! We arrived at 6:35pm ish. We were served our appetizer at 7:23pm. That is about a 50min wait. Then we were served our main dish 20mins after we finished our appetizer. Quality of sushi and nigiri appears dull, doesn't taste fresh. Don't trust the reviews. If looking for legit japanese, not in this neighborhood.. though place is clean. read more

My husband and I stopped in here while on vacation, hoping to avoid rush hour traffic coming down from Vancouver. We stopped around 6 pm on a random Tuesday and were seated right away at the sushi counter. It took a few minutes to be greeted but turns out the kitchen was dealing with a huge mess up. We got our order in, two sushi rolls and chicken katsu. Sushi came out first about 10 minutes before the chicken. Ordinarily we'd be annoyed about this, and we were, but everything was so amazing we hardly let it bother us. Some of the best sushi and katsu we've ever had. Nice enough place. Music playing at 2pm Sat a bit obscure pop genre, seemed odd. Ordered spicy tuna sushi, staff member said the tuna was "Atlantic tuna" which we are not a fan of so didn't each much of it. We'll probably return to San Kai for a keener level of food quality. read more

It hurts to write this review because I wanted to like this place so bad. I came to Sushi Moto somewhat frequently for solid sushi and after coming to Kazoku with high hopes, it failed to hit the mark in disappointing fashion. This review is solely about the food as the staff was nice and provide service you'd expect. The sushi was sub-par. First, the bad: - The uni (sea urchin) being $10 per piece, was old, stale, and extremely fishy. I almost wanted to throw up the pieces I ate. - The "Robert Roll" is great but both presentation and taste are off. They top the roll with what looks like minced fish. It does not make the food appetizing to look at. The scallop inside was too fishy tasting. - The soft shell crab and deep fried oysters are too firm to be enjoyable. - Tuna tartare is just off. The texture of the tuna is odd and had an off taste as well. It was a little too firm. - Ankimo (fish liver) was not as good as Sushi Moto's For the good: - The salmon sashimi was soft and delicious, very fresh - Spicy tuna roll, tofu pockets, ikura (hard to mess up) - Unagi don rice is really good The whole meal was mixed but given we spent almost $300 after tip, it left A LOT to be desired. I likely will not be coming back unless big changes to fish quality are made. Really disappointing as an Edmonds local. read more

very mediocre experience, unfortunately. we paid a little over $100 total with tax and tip for two people and got the tempura udon, the agedashi tofu, a sushi roll and a few pieces of nigiri. tempura udon and agedashi tofu were solid but nothing out of the ordinary. my gripe is with the sushi - the fish on the nigiri did not taste or look fresh at all and the sushi roll was pretty bland. for the price, i definitely expected more, especially given that other reviews made this place sound really good. will probably not return again as there are way better options for sushi if we drive 15 min south into seattle. service was okay. read more

Kazoku is an amazing restaurant! The ambiance is cozy with a long sushi bar, regular tables, and a few smaller rooms for a more private dining experience. We started with the Tako Yaki and gyoza (pan fried). The Tako Yaki is AMAZING! The plating of it shows a deep understanding that we eat with our eyes before our mouths. Our waiter Jack recommend the Ton Katsu which was excellent! I also ordered a spicy tuna roll which was delicious as well. Last but not least, we had the Banana split desert, which has mochi and deep fried banana.... YUM! Overall this is an excellent new addition to the greater Edmonds area. A couple caveats before I leave this review: this was a takeout order and previous visits had resulted in a exceptionally delicious experience. However, when ordering take out yesterday we were incredibly disappointed in our dinner. First our spicy tuna rolls all had a peculiar taste that we found bitter. We also found our Bobby roll to be under performing in the taste department. The crab was not as good as times prior, hopefully just a fluke. Either way the quality of the remainder of our order was also not as tasty as our previous visits. Hopefully this was just a lapse in qa or perhaps a new chef getting adjusted because we really do enjoy this place. read more

We traveled here from Seattle because of the top reviews but were disappointed when our Teriyaki Chicken dish arrived. It was late lunch on Saturday with only 5 customer group parties of 2 or 3. All of were served overcooked dry chicken over a large portion of mushrooms & onions with a small amount of teriyaki sauce. It tasted uncomfortable. However, the gyoza was terrific. in contrast but no enough to save our chicken or house salad with barley a drizzle of ... okay I'm truly not sure what dressing was on the salad. We shared the salad and I got no dressing and the others thought they tasted maybe Italian. The most interesting fact was that three chefs stood by the raw fish bar with no customers and the remaining three service staff provided very good service to seventeen customers seated at six different tables.
