I'm writing this more for those that never had the chance to visit but on the off chance get to visit elsewhere and looking for info. I visited here frequently and I'm sad to see it shut down. Kazzan ramen in Osaka is a bit north of the main hub of Osaka, but one can hope they continue to try to spread their magic elsewhere. It was touching to see they'd trained (at least some) the staff to incorporate some of the tradition you'll see when in Japan such as greeting and goodbyes, even understanding phrases such as "okaikei onegai shimasu." Having lived in Japan, it was a nice touch. Food & Drink Kazzan ramen is an absolute delight. The stone bowl is so hot and keeps your ramen warm for the entire time you're enjoying it. They offer shio, shoyu, karamiso ramens. I personally loved the karamiso though their limited edition spicy version was great if looking for some heat. For appetizers, the black pepper edamame was a standout. Flavors of toasted sesame, maybe a touch of soy, with black pepper - . The cocktails were always delicious. They always had elevated cocktails with custom syrups and bitters. Definitely nice to see unique Japanese ingredients being incorporated into the cocktail scene. Service The service was always great, very attentive. Never had a want or need go long without being addressed. Staff was always making th rounds collecting plates, filling water, making sure you have everything. Pricing The ramen was a bit pricey even for US standards, which likely contributed to struggles but it was still delicious and worth visiting. I think a few bucks cheaper would have probably gone a long way. Or offering bundled pricing with cocktails or drinks to encourage more revenue while discounting. Though, I don't find it coincidental that this location has been plagued by multiple establishments not making it. That would indicate onerous lease rates and a potentially shrewd landlord. Overall This place will be missed and for anyone that does get a chance to visit them elsewhere, you won't regret it! read more

I walked in and immediately saw my group waiting at the table. The server came up to take drink orders. He brought waters and I ask for a hot green tea and one of my dining companions had already ordered hot green tea but the server forgot and had to be reminded. Someone else had asked for a Japanese soda but then changed their mind when the flavor was not what they wanted and told the server they wanted a Dr Pepper and the server brought the Japanese soda. I thought service would be more attentive since the restaurant was not busy. We also had to ask for water refills. I was told our table just turned over. The setups were not replenished and we kept having to ask for things. Were ordered apps and ramen and hot stone bowl items. They apps were brought to the table but we did not have plates.. so we had to ask for plates. One of the dining companions decided to get up and get chopsticks instead of waiting. When our entrees arrived the server kept passing the super hot item over from one side of the table instead of to each person. The food, the edamame was over cooked... so mushy. Takoyaki was ok. I ordered the Kazzan Shoyu. It was ok. Then it took a while for the bill to come, we were told they ran out of receipt paper. Sometimes it's the little details that make the difference. Cool new spot for ramen and Japanese food! Originally from Japan, apparently this is the only the second location in the U.S. and the first in TX. The restaurant + bar is spacious, trendy, and modern. We tried both ramen and non-ramen dishes, and I think I will stick with the ramen dishes here in the future. The shoyu ramen has good flavor - no complaints here and would order again! The Katsu don caught my eye with the menu picture but was a slight disappointment. The shape of the bowl itself made it hard to eat, and I was expecting the pork to be crispier and the rice to topping ratio to be more evenly portioned (the dish was very rice heavy). We came here for Houston restaurant week for their dinner menu. Our waiter was nice and checked on us a few times. Our table was steady and clean. They added another table to our table bc the Houston restaurant week set was a lot of food. We had an assortment of vegetables and takoyaki as our first course. Our second course was pork, cutlet, and tofu salad. Our third course was sukiyaki kazzan (+$4) and curry rice. Our fourth course or desserts was, matcha tiramisu and ice kazzan (+$4). Overall the food was average but for $39 (except for the two upgrades) per person for a four course meal is an amazing deal. The food was very filling and we actually skipped out heading to the bars afterwards because we were so full. What makes this place a bit more different than others was that they give you a side of rice to eat with your leftover soup at the end of your clay pot entree. Since it's in a clay pot, the dish stays warmer longer. Plus, the visual effects of steam or dry ice smoke depending on what items you ordered. If I were to do this again, i would not do the tofu salad because their pork cutlet came with a small side salad already. If I had known that, I would had gotten that instead. Haha. And stick with the matcha tiramisu. The ice kazzan wasn't that great. I think the hype was from the dry ice used for a dish effect. The curry rice was more soupy than curry. Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, they weren't busy at all so we were sat as soon as we walked in. Our waitress was an older woman and she was very nice, she answered all the questions we had about the menu. We started off with the Fried Chicken Wings and Spicy Creamy Shrimp. I'd say skip the shrimp and order the wings! They were fantastic, the sauce is delicious. The shrimp was good too just basic. For ramen I ordered the Tantán ramen, the flavor was good but it was way too thick and barely had any broth. I got tired of it very quickly. My sister ordered the Karamiso and I think that was by far the better ramen. I would definitely recommend stopping by and checking this place out if you're in the area. read more

My 1st time here and i was surprise that the food was quite food. I didn't try ramen bcoz there r other options that other ramen places in town dont have it and it turn out to be good. The only thing was the service was extremely slow. The whole restaurant was empty and only 1 other table of 2 people. But it took over 25min to serve appertizer Then we had to wait 10min after we asked for our check. Not sure what happened but all of that should be avoidable. Stopped by for dinner with my family of 4 on a Sunday evening to try their HRW menu. We were seated right away and then the server came and explained the options which are plenty!! We placed our order with the server and then waited and waited and waited. Chris Brown's greatest hits were in a constant loop being played in the restaurant was entertaining. The restaurant was not too busy, but we did notice our server was also bartending. Finally after 50 minutes of waiting only person in the party first two courses arrived together. I asked why was it taking so long and they stated the kitchen was backed up. Eventually everyone's orders came out and everything was delicious. Plenty of parking outside. Love the decor on the inside. Staff were friendly. We ordered an appetizer that had chicken karage, octopus with fish flakes, and edemame. We also ordered the kazzan ramen with beef and sukiyaki broth. The presentation was fun, they place a cone shaped piece on top of your bowl as the steam comes out the spout it looks like a volcano. They mix it up for you, it was plenty to share with my bf. The broth was flavorful slightly sweet. Overall the food was tasty. Ordered the mochi ice cream in mango and strawberry, it was a nice way to calm that sweet tooth of mine. They also have shaved ice with ice cream. Ramen, that's a nice little addition to the Heights area. This area is full of fast food places and dessert places as well. It's nice to have something warm and cozy in this neighborhood. Ramen - comes to your table in a super hot stone bowl and they proceed to pour the broth over your ramen and cover it with a open steam top bowl. So the ramen actually Cooks in front of you for a few minutes before they take the top off and you're able to eat it. They have instructions on the table of how to cook your ramen. Shrimp Fried Rice - the fried rice also comes in a piping hot stone bowl they bring the egg out raw and pour it into the stone bowl and it Cooks in front of you. Pretty cool things if you've never experienced it. The rice was pretty good and all of their items are very reasonably priced and large quantities for the cost. The shrimp in the rice were very large, wasn't expecting that. The service was interesting, we did have about four different people helping us throughout the dinner. They were all very kind and nice. I believe the gentleman's name was deandre the main guy helping us. He was nice and also appeared to be a great bartender from how I watched to making drinks. We stopped by Kazzan one rainy afternoon, and the weather felt like the perfect excuse to warm up with a bowl of ramen. Decided to randomly stop by Kazzan on a weekday for happy hour. It was quite empty - maybe 2-3 other parties in the whole restaurant. With that being said, service was quite fast and attentive. Berry blossom cocktail - I was hoping it'd taste like a cherry blossom, but it definitely didn't. It wasn't sweet and you can definitely taste the alcohol. So for those expecting weak drinks, that won't be an issue. Happy hour assorted appetizers included edamame, takoyaki, and chicken karaage. This was a miss for me. The takoyaki was pretty bland, I wished it had more flavor. The chicken karaage was definitely over fried, which made it more crunchy and dry than I wanted it to be. Ordered the volcano ramen (kazzan shoyu) because it was highly recommended. I always like to try a ramen spot's shoyu ramen because a good ramen spot shouldn't mess this up. Unfortunately, I would pass on this kazzan shoyu. Of course, great presentation with the stone bold and the lid, but that's all there is to it. The flavor was seriously lacking for me. Maybe I should've ordered it with nitamago (egg) to make it better, but I won't be ordering this again. Ended the meal with their green tea kakigori. Once again, nice presentation, but the taste was lacking for me. It definitely required more of the green tea taste. The presentation is misleading of how much shaved ice there actually is. This is shareable between two people for sure. The restaurant itself looks beautiful with its aesthetics and fully stocked bar, however the disappointment in food is what's stopping me from running back here. We wanted to check out this place after we saw a bunch of posts about it! We tried a wide assortment of dishes, some that we would get again and others probably not. We started with some appetizers and the most delicious was definitely the spicy fried shrimp! The flavor was creamy, a little spicy and was very crispy and delicious! We also got the pork cutlet, which was a delicious tonkatsu, perfectly fried with sauce. These were the two dishes I'd get again! The takoyaki was a little uncooked and mushy inside so the texture wasn't very pleasing. The assorted kushi was also waaaaay different than it had looked in pictures so it was a big suprise when it came out. The fried meats and vegetables were good but not worth $14....... For our main entrees we got the Kazzan sukiyaki ramen and the dry ramen. The sukiyaki ramen was fun to see but the soup really didn't taste like ramen broth. The broth was a good broth to drink but really tasted just like a normal soup with loots of cabbage flavor. We were also disappointed with lack of meat. Again, very different than the pictures on the menu. The noodles were also more like lo mein noodles than ramen noodles. Overall, it was okay but really wasn't ramen. The dried ramen we had was pretty good! It had lots of flavor but was almost too salty for me and a little too spicy for me as well. Kazzan Ramen is just okay to me. I must admit that I did go to a ramen spot and did not order ramen...but they was because the ramen options were a bit limited compared to other ramen spots that I have been to. I ordered one of the rice dishes and the meat while the flavor was good, the meat was such poor quality and I spent a majority of the time searching and picking for the edible pieces of beef in my bowl. My friend had the ramen and enjoyed it, but said that they have had better. The pros of this place are (1) our server was super sweet..they did not know much about the menu and told us that everything we asked was good but they were very pleasant (2) we went on a Wednesday at 7pm and it was completely empty so you probably don't have to worry too much about getting a seat. read more

Good ramen place! This is the first volcano ramen concept ramen place that has opened in Houston and although the concept sounds interesting, it's just a decent ramen place in my opinion. We came here for lunch during the week and it was not too busy. The place definitely reminds you of Japan, with the decor and music. The staff was very friendly and also greeted and said goodbye in Japanese. We ordered a few plates: beef don, yodare chicken and the kazzan karamiso ramen. All were pretty good! Stopped by on a whim after a Sunday night dance class, and Kazzen Ramen offers a fun, eclectic experience--especially if you enjoy creative drinks! They're currently running a Japanese whiskey flight special, which seems like a must-try for whiskey lovers. The menu is a bit overwhelming, with bold fonts and pictures everywhere. It feels like the restaurant hasn't quite settled on its identity--some dishes seem geared toward ramen newbies (thanks to the photos), while others cater to more adventurous eaters. My waiter recommended the Beef Sukiyaki Kazzan Ramen, which is on the pricier side and leans a little gimmicky. The ramen arrives in a scorching stone bowl, and the waiter places a metal funnel over the top so the noodles and thinly sliced beef finish cooking at the table. Sounds cool, right? Well, my funnel leaked broth all over the table, and the staff sets an hourglass timer to make sure you don't eat it "too soon." Honestly, it felt like an accident waiting to happen--good food should speak for itself without all the theatrics. That said, the broth was rich and flavorful, the noodles were fresh, and the cabbage cut through the oils nicely. I added bamboo shoots, which cooked perfectly in the stone bowl. One odd note: Despite having a full bar, they served my ginger ale in a can,which just added to the table clutter. Shoutout to my waiter, Yi Ling, who packed up my leftovers like a pro (separating broth and noodles--a true ramen expert!). His attentive service added a personal touch to the night. We went for the HRW deal and got lots of food! Definitely worth it to try, 4 courses for $40. It came with 2 appetizers, ramen, and mochi. The volcano ramen was alright, more for the presentation if you're looking to post on Instagram. The chasu in the ramen was actually really good; the meat was really tender. The appetizers was the star of the show! My favorites were the spicy creamy shrimp and the chicken cutlets and karaage. All the appetizers were perfectly crispy. The other thing we ordered was the kakigori shaved ice which was perfect to share with our table. That was delicious. Parking is in a plaza which might be full if it gets busy. Nice and modern interior. The volcano ramen is a cool concept but I'm not sure it really did that much more for the flavor. While the noodles were cooking in the hot stone bowl, a few got burnt so there was a burnt smell as I was eating my ramen, which was slightly unpleasant. They also give you rice to put in the broth once you're done with your noodles. The ramen itself was good with flavorful broth. Although this style of ramen has a lot of cabbage which was not my favorite. Service was friendly and timely. New place that opened up and I love the concept! It's ramen in a hot stone bowl with steam coming out similar to a volcano. The drinks on the happy hour menu were all delicious. And the dessert Kazzan (mango, strawberry, and matcha flavored) were delicious. However the main entree's I had gotten needed some more work. Beef tendon: my biggest disappointment. There were very little pieces of meat and even then it had ZERO tendon. (Look at photos). It was mixed with konjac jelly which is fine but overall for the price really disappointing. Points given for them understanding my confusion when a dish came out with zero tendon and probably slightly more jelly than meat... Sukiyaki kazzan- it was slightly too sweet, but it was solid. You have to pay extra for any toppings so ultimately for a fully loaded bowl it would be about 30$+ It took quite a long time for us to get our orders (40+ minutes) but that might have to do with them opening up recently and working out some kinks. read more

We came for the $25 lunch menu of Restaurant Week. Between my husband and I, we ordered the bao with spicy shrimp, takoyaki, shrimp, curry, and a traditional ramen soup. We had never been here, and we were very impressed with the quality of the food and the flavor profiles. The curry was definitely on the spicy side, but had an incredibly rich flavor. I have not eaten much Ramen before, but I found the broth very flavorful, and the pork belly had plenty of meat (not all fat). The noodles had a great texture. For dessert, we got to try all of the flavors of mochi - the mango mochi was our favorite, although the other three flavors were very good too. I went to Kazzan Ramen, the new ramen shop in the heights. But instead of getting ramen, I came for a sweet treat! I got their strawberry summit which was huge. It's meant to be shared by 4 people. It's a huge bowl of strawberry shaved ice with strawberries, a scoop of ice cream, and a side of condensed milk to top it with. The waiter pours down boiling water at the top to create a volcanic effect. Fun fact: kazzan means volcano in Japanese! It's a really nice experience and something fun. The ice was literally melt in the mouth and had a strong strawberry flavor. The condensed milk definitely elevated the taste and so did the ice cream. The strawberries were a bit on the bitter side but they had a lot of juice. If you come with 4 people it's only like $3 per person. Definitely a unique experience you should try. The presentation of the ramen was very fun--the volcano with the steam coming out was very creative. But there were a lot of presentation traditions, which I didn't love--some kind of group staff greeting when guests walked in and the entire restaurant singing when it was a guest's birthday. Not my thing. We had the Kazzan shoyu ramem, regular size, which was plenty big enough for two people to split. Late review- went to Houston Restaurant Week to taste the food as I have seen this place blowing up (pun intended) on social media. The HRW menu was a lot of food and the waitress warned us but we unfortunately ignored it. The appetizers were absolutely delicious- the karaage was crispy and juicy, the katsu was moist and well-battered, the shrimp and takoyaki were all cooked well. Truly my favorite part of the meal. I also got a mocktail (which I love that they had nonalcoholic options) which was calpico, mango, and blue(?), and it was a yummy yogurt-y drink. Everything came with a salad and we also had a giant bowl of edamame too. The volcano Kazzan was a cool novelty, the way they pour the soup from beakers and let it steam like a volcano. But after the pomp and show, the ramen itself was only okay. Maybe because I got the karamiso rather than what I usually get, which would be the signature, but I felt there was an excessive amount of cabbage and the miso was very strong. I couldn't finish the ramen (partially because it was also a huge portion) and I couldn't really find it in myself to bring it home as leftovers. The strawberry kakigori was also quite fun, with dry ice creating the smoking volcano effect. The ice was sweet and not too artificial tasting for being mostly syrup and shaved ice, although I wish there was more fresh strawberries in it. Pretty good amount of parking at Kazzan Ramen since it's located in a plaza. Indoor seating has a nice vibe, and there's outdoor seating that's pet friendly. Excellent service for a party of 9. Did not get the waiter's name, but he was super friendly! Enjoyed the mango lemonade; was very sweet at first but tasted better after the ice melted a bit. Ordered assorted appetizers, included edamame (good), takoyaki (2 pc), and chicken karrage (2 pc, average) - takoyaki had a savory taste but the exterior was missing a slight crunch/crispy texture; mostly soft/mushy Kazzan Karamiso: ordered this mainly for the presentation/experience (cool to watch for about a minute); mostly savory and not that spicy. Our first introduction to the establishment was a lack of a host behind the host stand in an entryway storing a stack of high chairs and an outdoor poster board. It wasn't welcoming at all. The staff greeted us with mild excitement. The food was just ok. I felt like the upholding the concept is taking a toll on the staff. I think if the staff had a rolling cart of some sort, they can easily pour the broth for the first minute, then place in front of the guests on their table. If the place was packed, the staff wouldn't be able to use other empty tables just to do the initial pour. The food was just ok. The best item of the meal was the fried shrimp appetizer. I also loved the cold eggplant. The karaage seemed too overcooked and underseasoned/dry. Regretfully, I will not return. The ramen broth was watered down after the cabbage and bean sprouts cooked longer in the hot stone and steamed. It tasted fine in the kids ramen bowl. Chasu was also dry and Chewy. read more

I've been to this new ramen spot twice in a week, and I'm already hooked! Their vegetarian ramen is seriously delicious--packed with flavor, and the portion sizes are generous. I usually go for small portions, but even then, I took home leftovers! The first visit had a small mix-up with the broth, but the manager personally fixed it and made sure I got exactly what I ordered. The second visit was flawless, with our waitress, Miranda, staying on top of everything. The only slight hiccup was the happy hour menu--it lists cocktails and draft beers, but there's not much explanation. And, while they offer draft beers, the two I wanted to try weren't available. One feature I absolutely love is that they have soy sauce, chili oil, vinegar, fresh garlic with a garlic press, sesame seeds, and chili flakes at the table. You can mix your own sauce or add any of these to your dish however you like. Plus, they have a little timer for a minute that goes with their cool "chimney" dishes--it's a fun touch that's awesome to watch! That said, I'm giving them five stars. The place looks awesome inside, the food is fantastic, and the staff is genuinely friendly. Sure, they're still finding their groove, and the pace can be a bit slow, especially for dessert, but it's worth the wait. This is a spot to go in, relax, and enjoy. I had the volcano ramen and I loved the broth. It has great flavor without being too salty and has a little bit of spice to it. I have been twice because I loved the flavors. The first time the service was amazing and the second time we could have had better attention (napkins, clearing the table, making sure things don't boil out of pot). We tried this place for HRW. The HRW menu online did not match the HRW menu at the restaurant. The takoyaki was missing from the menu at the restaurant. We were also charged $2 extra for no reason. The service was slow and the hassle with fixing the check was annoying. The Kazzan ramen in the hot stone bowl stayed piping hot. There were a lot of veggies in the Kazzan ramen. The chicken karaage was also very hot. The takoyaki was delicious. Hopefully the service can improve. Plenty of free parking. The decor was very clean and bright. read more
