    Da Oxtail Ramen

Me and some of my coworkers were hungry for a good late night meal and not much is open but this great place. The oxtail ramen is flavorful, season well and cooked perfectly. The service was too. I enjoy the batter and the way they cooked the shrimp tempura. I should've gotten more of those. The ambiance felt like Asian culture with pictures all over the walls.

Quick and Simple Review - can't go wrong with 24hr ramen! Parking: horrible and tiny! Might find parking in the neighborhood. 3/10 Drowning Gyoza: delish 8.5/10 Kore-age: covered in gochujang honey sauce, it's mostly sweet with no spice. 8.5/10 Surf and Turf: boyfriend got that and he really liked it, expect opt out the ginger because its too overpowering. The tempura was goooooood! 9/10 Luffy: eh it was okay, the steak was hella well done. 6/10 Shinigami: pretty solid and pretty spicy!! 9/10 Kimchi Fried Rice: eh it was also okay. WAAAAY too much ginger and green onions. Would opt out next time! 6/10 Overrall: 8/10 Recommendations: Gyoza, Kore-age, Shinigami, and extra Shrimp Tempuras

This place looked so cool. Anime decor and projectors of anime on the back. However, you cant see hear the anime or anything like that. So, it is there mostly to give you the anime vibes. It's not small inside it's actually spacious for a ramen place. It was definitely unique knowing the place is 24/7. I tried a few of their appetizing one being the gyoza (they had chicken or pork, I got chicken). The gyoza was really flavorful and just dripping with sauce. I am hoping to try their ramen next time. Service was decent I did wait awhile to get refills on my water and for the check. I don't feel like it was a busy night either. I did wait to get seating for 30 mins but I actually think that's a short wait time for them. I think this place probably always has a wait time. They have seating outside where you can wait and then they text you when there's a seat.

This ramen restaurant is the only one I know in Houston that is open 24 hours a day. There is limited parking available out front and some towards the rear. The vibes are very casual with an anime sort of theme inside. It is quite dim lit and not too noisy the times I've been, mostly on early weekday evenings. Service can be a hit or miss, but the wait for the actual order to come to the table is longer than expected especially when the house isn't packed. While the menu is fairly small and mainly ramen, they offer some rice dishes and your average Japanese style apps including edamame, gyoza, and karaage, and some fusion items like nachos and tacos. The bar menu is alright and they offer happy hour specials too. We've tried a few of their apps and found them to be very mid. Without sauces, bland. We've also ordered ramen as build-your-own as well as signature bowls. The ramen noodles (yellow which is part of the base price, spinach +2, or konjac +4) were soft and slightly chewy, what a good bounce! Choosing the broth is where it can make it or break it... I found lots of flavor in their miso (creamy pork broth with slight heat) but not so much in the other options. Where it can really add up is the toppings. Most vegetable toppings are roughly a dollar while additonal protein is $3-6, but the quality is not all that great. For instance, the pork and chicken were more on the dry and tough end, whereas the typical pork chashu in ramen is tender and moist...maybe they got overcooked? Same with the eggs...not much flavor and not with the soft yolky center. While I don't consider this restaurant as an authentic ramen spot nor a true Japanese restaurant (I don't think that's what they're trying to be either), I want to think Shokku is a place where friends can hangout and enjoy a warm bowl of noodles and a drink even when it's 3am. I'm not 100% opposed to coming back if friends really really want to, but it is not my top choice because of all the other great ramen spots in town.

Came back after awhile and to find out food wasn't as good as I remember. Price does increase quite a bit. Service was good but my ramen was too salty for my taste

Came by Shokku Ramen on a Sunday evening for some ramen and sat at the bar for quicker service. I don't enjoy any ramen spots in Houston so I didn't set high hopes for Shokku. The bartender was really nice and attentive, which made the experience smooth from the start. I ordered the vegan ramen with spinach noodles, and my friend went with ramen that had a vegan broth, chicken, and spinach noodles. Both bowls were decent and relatively satisfying. The only downside was that it was so cold inside the restaurant that I couldn't fully enjoy the meal. I was ready to head out sooner than I would've liked. I even asked if they could turn the air down a bit but they couldn't. Aside from that, it's a solid spot with good service and tasty options, especially if you're looking for vegan-friendly ramen.

my boyfriend and I came in for a late night dinner after a birthday party and Diana took the BEST care of us!!!! She was very patient with us, despite them being steady; she kindly fixed the spice level of my ramen which was a little too much for me. and replaced our to-go order that we accidentally dropped as we were headed out. Will definitely come back again!

I had ordered the Surf & Turf Ramen and the Shrimp Tempura tasted like frozen food. I had also tasted my wife's ramen and both were average taste. The ambiance is decent for us having a very late dinner (about 11pm). There are unlimited of better ramen spots though, especially in H-Town. I believe the overall appeal is that it is open 24/7 making it ideal as a last case resort for ramen, or just food in general for late night eating out with friends. They also do play multiple anime shows at the same time but it's mixed with loud American music..

    Yarisel S.

Not your average Ramen place because its more of a fusion type of vibe. Very quick service, nice dim place if you like that type of vibe. Food was very good and flavorful. I got the Surf and Turf and was able to find it quite tasty.

the draw of this ramen spot is the fact that it's open 24hrs. the overall flavor of the ramen is solid, but when the server brought my ramen, it was pretty cold. it appeared to be a decently clean establishment, the service was great and the server was very personable. definitely added to the late night option list! bonne appétit

First time at SR with my family to celebrate my birthday. We went late at night and it wasn't as busy but got very busy after we were seated. The hostess was nice. Our server was amazing! Very attentive and patient with us and helpful with suggestions. I ended up trying the December special ramen and it was delicious. The food was great, we are definitely coming back to try more items. Loved the atmosphere, very relax and inviting. Definitely give them a try!!

Service was top notch with Mari behind the bar. Very attentive and helpful explaining all of the questions I had about the menu, even though She was managing the bar and tables near the bar area! This place is apparently open 24/7 for the dine inn, cool anime ambiance and decor. I tried one of their January seasonal drinks called the Dempsey Roll 10/10 reminded me of an old fashioned but with an orange bitter twist!! I started with the pork tacos which were small but mighty, pork was soft and the taco shell was not greasy!! I ordered their spiciest ramen the Shinigami, don't worry the spicy sauce comes on the side allowing you to make your own spice level. It came with pork and fried chicken and was definitely the best thing I had! Definitely the place to come check out when you're In the mood for ramen. Did I mention they have happy hour and reverse happy hour Monday tru Friday!!!

Ok this is was a last minute stop, it was late around 10pm. And a few us wanted some good Ramen so we stopped. The vibe is total anime enjoyed it very chill. First time here I had the Tonkotsu Ramen with Tofo, yellow noodles and shrimp delicious and we also had the Tori Ramen very good. Waitresses was helpful with the menu options a must try if you're in the area. Parked in the back btw was safe.

I was very surprised. And my broth was so delicious. It had such a rich umami flavor due to the miso & I thought the spice level was perfect. Honestly - I could eat jhst that broth for a whole meal. Unlike buldak or some other spicy ramens - the main selling point wasn't the spice. You could get an additional "spice bomb" if you wanted some more heat. The ramen toppings were good but not outstanding - same with the noodles. I thought the "mi-so-hot" was easily 3x better than "the og". The broth in "the og" was pretty interesting and more unique tasting. It felt like the main notes were just umami, pork, and oil. Not bad, but felt like it was missing a little something to make it truly good. If I had just got the OG, I'd rate this place a bit lower - but as it stands I'd 100% come back here for the "mi-so-hot" The interior was pretty nice. It was more "communal style seating" with a couple of big tables. There is also some smaller booths. It's an "order at the counter" type restaurant as well. I saw several comments about parking & was a bit concerned when driving over. I know that part of westheimer is always packed! But there is an attached parking lot & at 3pm on a Sunday, there was plenty of parking! Also - there is some street parking in the neighborhood north of the shop. Overall - will 100% be coming back for some more spicy ramen. Would recommend

The sweet aftertaste was definitely worthwhile. - Shrimp - Not as fresh as I would have liked, as someone who's eaten a lot of shrimp, but I still liked the taste. Still, pretty mediocre. Tantan Tsukemen - Very interesting broth. Potent, salty, and full of bold flavor. My friend swapped the pork for chicken, and the chicken worked really well with the broth. They serve the chicken as a cold cut. This is a double-noodle dish with a soy milk-based dipping sauce. I normally would have ordered this because I LOVE tantan ramen, but I had to forgo it for the limited-time Creamy Truffle Ramen. Creamy Truffle Ramen - LOVED the broth. It was very light and creamy. I actually liked this a lot more than tonkotsu ramen. The truffle wasn't too overwhelming--just mild enough to hint at its flavor without becoming the only flavor profile you get. Truffle is like baking with rose water; finding that balance is quite hard. I will admit the whole table smelled like truffles, though. The torched king oyster mushroom paired wonderfully with the dish, and the broccolini was an equally interesting topping choice. I also found bits of melted Parmesan throughout the ramen, which the menu listed as an ingredient. The egg wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still a decent soy egg. As I kept eating, the truffle oil became more intense, and the fattiness started to get a bit overwhelming without washing it down with water. Great flavor overall, but I think this dish is best paired with an appetizer to help cut through the richness. One of my favorite things about this place, which my BF mentioned, was the noodle texture. I noticed it too as I ate--a good bite with a slick texture that was just starchy enough to cling to the broth. We had leftover noodles from the Tantan Tsukemen at the end of the meal and ended up using the Creamy Truffle broth as a dipping sauce. Honestly, no regrets. The cold noodles didn't work quite as well in this dish, but the broth was definitely a banger. This was also the first ramen broth I couldn't finish but desperately wanted to bring home. (Obviously, I did.) Their to-go containers are surprisingly sleek, too. It's a weird thing to compliment, but I almost wanted to keep the container as much as the broth. Special comment on the utensils here--the soup spoons are ridiculously cute! Would love to have a similar set at home. Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was thoughtful. The music wasn't too loud, and it wasn't that crowded for a Saturday night. They do play a lot of popular Japanese songs, so if you're an international music enthusiast, you'll appreciate hearing "Mayonaka no Door" by Miki Matsubara.

One waitress served everyone in the restaurant while I was there. She was speedy in taking and delivering orders. She seemed very nice! Food: ordered Tonkotsu Gachi and my mom ordered the yuzu. Food arrived very quickly, though we ordered no appetizers. The tonkotsu broth was rich and velvety in texture, but more like a mild umami in flavor. The chashu pork was pale, but melt in your mouth buttery and bursting with savory pork goodness! The marinated egg wasn't brought up to temperature with the broth -- a little cooler than room temperature, with a medium oozy yolk. It felt like the marinade penetrated all through to the yolk -- it was great! I welcomed the novel choice to use red onion over the usual scallions. It was a nice touch of color and brought in that bright, juicy onion flavor that I crave. Noodles were perfect texture. Not too hard or mushy. This bowl feels made to focus on the broth and flavor and not so much an instagram post. Delicious!! My only complaint was a very very very slight bitterness in the background. I couldn't pin where it was coming from. Maybe that's a risk of simmering bones for so long. I'll keep this short because I couldn't just eat my moms bowl... It was decent, but nothing that really stood out flavor wise. The food overall was okay at best in my opinion. What I did enjoy was the ambiance and atmosphere. The restaurant has really nice decorations and a cozy vibe that makes it a pleasant place to hang out. The staff was also attentive and friendly throughout the visit, which I appreciated. While the food didn't fully win me over, the service and environment definitely made the experience better.
