I stubbled on this place randomly when looking for a place for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was super modern and had an elevated vibe without being pretentious. We ordered the curry fries to share and I got the tonkotsu spicy and my friends got the truffle shoyu and the miso gachi. The curry fries were super tasty. I really liked the curry seasoning and the fries were perfectly crispy. (7.5/10) The tonkotsu spicy was SPICY. They did not skimp on the spice here and I loved it. The broth was creamy and the noodles were well cooked. The charsu meat was also very tender. I just wish there was more of it. (7/10) The truffle shoyu had a cleaner taste and the truffle flavor was present, but mild. I thought the miso gachi broth was a bit too salty for my liking. Overall, the service was great and so was the food. Glad to have found a new ramen spot near the med center.

Kids tonkotsu ramen with extra char sui

I didn't have too high expectations coming here, but decided to just join some friends before an event. Was also surprised to hear that they have kids eat free every day! We arrived around 5:40pm on a Friday night and there was plenty of seating. However, by the time we finished around 6:30pm the restaurant was bustling. The waiter told us he expected a very busy evening. Chicken karaage arrived first and was done very nicely. The exterior was super crispy and the inside juicy and moist. Yum. I was seriously tempted to order another plate since it only came with 6-7 pieces. Next, all the ramens came out. I got the shoyu truffle which I enjoyed a lot. I liked that you can taste the truffle flavor without it being overpowering. Also liked that the broth itself wasn't as salty as some ramen places. Noodles were al dente and all the toppings were tasty! Loved that the char sui actually had a good amount of lean meat versus it being mostly fat. The char grilled bamboo shoots were a nice touch as well. I tried my son's tonkotsu shoyu and enjoyed it too. I think my least favorite was my husband's tonkotsu gachi ramen, but he enjoyed it. Overall had a very good experience and look forward to coming back!

Japanese Ramen Gachi is absolutely amazing! We ordered a few appetizers--Gachi Fries, chicken karaage, and gyoza--and every single one was a 10/10. Everything came out perfectly crispy and packed with flavor. The highlight, though, was the signature Shoyu Truffle ramen. It honestly tasted just like the ramen I've had in Japan--comforting, and incredibly satisfying. This has officially become my new favorite ramen spot, and I'd gladly make the drive to the Medical Center just for this.

Nice ramen spot close to the med center. It was so busy on a Friday evening. The space isn't that big so at peak hours you will have to wait. They start turning people away from waiting around 8 pm because they close at 9 pm. It was too busy for just 2 servers who were also seating people. Waited about 20 minutes to be seated as a group of 3. While the food was good, we were sitting at our table for probably 15-20 minutes before anyone came at all even just for drink orders. They need more people on the floor. Gachi fries were crispy and very savory, I liked the curry seasoning. I like that there are various different ramen choices with different noodles. The tonkotsu spicy broth wasn't too spicy and it was pretty rich. The noodles were the thin kind and texture was good. The pork belly was pretty fatty, more similar to the pork belly you'd find it Chinese 梅菜扣肉 (mei cai kou rou) rather than chasu but still tasty. I recommend avoiding the peak times here. It's in a plaza so there's plenty of parking.

Chicken Katsu: served hot and very juicy. A little low on salt. Overall pretty good Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen: Absolutely amazing. Probably one of my favorite ramens in Houston! Broth is very flavorful and rich. Service was great as they have a new automated system with a QR code. Love the design inside with a lot of warm woods. A good low key spot for a date or hang out with friends.

My sister and I went to Japanese Gachi Ramen on a Saturday evening, about 20 minutes after they reopened for dinner. It wasn't too busy when we arrived, so we were seated right away. We ordered the spicy edamame, sesame cucumbers, the Shoyu Truffle ramen for me, and the spicy chicken ramen for my sister. The spicy edamame came out first and was really good -- great flavor with a nice kick that wasn't overwhelming. Unfortunately, the sesame cucumbers never came out, so we didn't get to try those. My Shoyu Truffle ramen was pretty good -- not spectacular, but solid, and you could definitely taste the truffle flavor. As we were eating, the restaurant got much busier. It's a small space with limited seating, so it fills up quickly. I'd definitely come back to try a different broth, and I'd recommend coming early -- by the time we left, the wait line was already out the door.

I had a great time, I came right at opening on a week night, and was seated within 5 minutes upon walking in. the mood and ambiance was nice and intimate, bar seating is available -which has high chairs. I got spicy chicken ramen - I thought the spicy oil really over powers a chicken flavor, that's my personal opinion but, I need to order the non spicy so I can really soak in the flavors. they are generous with the ramen portion. I had plenty noodles left over. my husband order tonkatsu, and loved it, I actually used his broth to balance out m broth. my suggestion to you is, to get the spicy bomb on the side, and you can adjust your spice levels. we got almost all appetizers, I would love to try the spicy karaage next. I would recommend to get some appetizers in, a few light bites are always a vibe. the tables next to me didn't order any, and was starting at us eat the whole time while waiting for their ramen. the ramen isn't going to come out immediately after ordering, they need some time to prep! the decor inside is absolutely so cute! whoops ok for apps, I got fries, chicken karaage, and gyoza. plenty of parking, worth a try!

    Curry gachi fries

I came here because the reviews looked good. Sadly, my taste buds and the reviews are no longer on speaking terms. We ordered two bowls of ramen and the Curry Gachi Fries. Everything was salty. Very salty. I even asked for less salt in my tonkotsu broth, and it still tasted like the ocean had emotional problems. The curry fries had almost no curry flavor. Mostly just salt. Cute idea, but the curry apparently clocked out early. For the ramen, one bowl had thick noodles and the other had thin noodles. Both were undercooked and sticky, not chewy or bouncy. Not the fun "QQ" texture I was hoping for--more like "why is this sticking to my teeth?" The broth was probably the best part. It had good umami and flavor, but everything in the bowl felt separate. The broth was doing its job, the pork was doing its job, the toppings were doing their own little solo projects. Nobody wanted to be a team. Service was average. Not rude, not warm. Just existing. The restaurant was clean, so points for that. Would I come back? Probably not. With a name this strong, I expected something more powerful. Instead, I got a $60 salt adventure.

Japanese ramen gachi has been down the street but I have never tried it until now. Located in Houston med center area, it is a convenient spot for a meal for those who work in the area. They have pretty intimate lighting and a nicely decorated interior. Since they are in themed center, their prices are a little higher than normal ramen prices. I ended up just getting their tonkotsu gachi. It has black garlic oil, umami paste, and bean sprouts. All of their tonkotsu bases come with 2 pork chashu pieces, green onion, kikurage mushrooms, and half of a soft boiled egg. I really liked the tonkotsu broth. It tastes very complex with the black garlic oil and umami. Toppings are kinda minimal though and I wish they provided a little more for the price. Maybe a whole egg instead of half an egg. The pork chashu pieces are also really small, they definitely could be a little larger

The ramen was so unique and delicious. We got the truffle ramen and spicy chicken ramen. Both were fantastic, but the truffle ramen outshined everything. We also got the sesame cucumber salad and chicken karaage as appetizers, but I would skip these next time. Overall, it's the perfect chill date or quick lunch spot tucked in the med center area. Would highly recommend.

The ramen was just okay for the price. However we also got the Takoyaki and it was great. The service was wonderful!

Our party of two dropped in for dinner. The interior was nicely decorated and cozy. We went with fried octopus and burned garlic oil fries for starter. The octopus was fantastic with the citrus and curry salts. The fries were ok, not with the price of $8. Our ramen soups were good, but not sensational. The pork bone broth was savory and not too salty. The two slices of char shui pork in the ramen was ordinary. Table service was attentive and friendly. It was an ok dinner.

Not going to lie, my expectations were in the gutter for this place based off the location alone. I, however was blown away by how good everything was. The chicken karaage was juicy and well fried. The pork over rice bowl was tiny but packed the punch and the ramen might honestly be the best in the city. The noodles and broth taste homemade and it appeared as if the chef was Japanese himself. I can see why they were so busy on a weekday. That being said, it took an hour for us to get even an appetizer. They did adjust our bill because we had to wait for so long. The food was good enough to justify coming back and giving Ramen Gachi a second chance.

I was very surprised. And my broth was so delicious. It had such a rich umami flavor due to the miso & I thought the spice level was perfect. Honestly - I could eat jhst that broth for a whole meal. Unlike buldak or some other spicy ramens - the main selling point wasn't the spice. You could get an additional "spice bomb" if you wanted some more heat. The ramen toppings were good but not outstanding - same with the noodles. I thought the "mi-so-hot" was easily 3x better than "the og". The broth in "the og" was pretty interesting and more unique tasting. It felt like the main notes were just umami, pork, and oil. Not bad, but felt like it was missing a little something to make it truly good. If I had just got the OG, I'd rate this place a bit lower - but as it stands I'd 100% come back here for the "mi-so-hot" The interior was pretty nice. It was more "communal style seating" with a couple of big tables. There is also some smaller booths. It's an "order at the counter" type restaurant as well. I saw several comments about parking & was a bit concerned when driving over. I know that part of westheimer is always packed! But there is an attached parking lot & at 3pm on a Sunday, there was plenty of parking! Also - there is some street parking in the neighborhood north of the shop. Overall - will 100% be coming back for some more spicy ramen. Would recommend

The sweet aftertaste was definitely worthwhile. - Shrimp - Not as fresh as I would have liked, as someone who's eaten a lot of shrimp, but I still liked the taste. Still, pretty mediocre. Tantan Tsukemen - Very interesting broth. Potent, salty, and full of bold flavor. My friend swapped the pork for chicken, and the chicken worked really well with the broth. They serve the chicken as a cold cut. This is a double-noodle dish with a soy milk-based dipping sauce. I normally would have ordered this because I LOVE tantan ramen, but I had to forgo it for the limited-time Creamy Truffle Ramen. Creamy Truffle Ramen - LOVED the broth. It was very light and creamy. I actually liked this a lot more than tonkotsu ramen. The truffle wasn't too overwhelming--just mild enough to hint at its flavor without becoming the only flavor profile you get. Truffle is like baking with rose water; finding that balance is quite hard. I will admit the whole table smelled like truffles, though. The torched king oyster mushroom paired wonderfully with the dish, and the broccolini was an equally interesting topping choice. I also found bits of melted Parmesan throughout the ramen, which the menu listed as an ingredient. The egg wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still a decent soy egg. As I kept eating, the truffle oil became more intense, and the fattiness started to get a bit overwhelming without washing it down with water. Great flavor overall, but I think this dish is best paired with an appetizer to help cut through the richness. One of my favorite things about this place, which my BF mentioned, was the noodle texture. I noticed it too as I ate--a good bite with a slick texture that was just starchy enough to cling to the broth. We had leftover noodles from the Tantan Tsukemen at the end of the meal and ended up using the Creamy Truffle broth as a dipping sauce. Honestly, no regrets. The cold noodles didn't work quite as well in this dish, but the broth was definitely a banger. This was also the first ramen broth I couldn't finish but desperately wanted to bring home. (Obviously, I did.) Their to-go containers are surprisingly sleek, too. It's a weird thing to compliment, but I almost wanted to keep the container as much as the broth. Special comment on the utensils here--the soup spoons are ridiculously cute! Would love to have a similar set at home. Overall, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was thoughtful. The music wasn't too loud, and it wasn't that crowded for a Saturday night. They do play a lot of popular Japanese songs, so if you're an international music enthusiast, you'll appreciate hearing "Mayonaka no Door" by Miki Matsubara.
