I like the addition of the chinese sausage. The bread that comes with it is perfect, and I am particular about my banh mi. Crispy but so soft in the center! Fresh! The pho might be pricy compared to the place in Chinatown, but their broth makes up for it and they don't skimp on the meats. Their wings are huge! Crispy and perf! I appreciated the little touches like the fresh bottled water and complimentary chips while waiting for the food...it made the experience feel a little more elevated. I started with a lychee martini , and it was delicious! Light, refreshing, and just sweet enough without being overpowering. For appetizers, I ordered the pork rolls, which were crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Definitely a solid choice if you're looking for something to share. I also tried the grilled oysters topped with onions and peanuts. They were definitely unique and unlike any oysters I've had before. The combination of flavors worked surprisingly well, and I enjoyed the creativity. While they weren't bad at all, I felt like they were missing just one extra element to really make them shine. Overall: 4.1/5 [dine in] Great food and drink presentation, wonderful staff and service, and a nice chill atmosphere. A lot of reviews highlighted the presentation and they weren't wrong, but I will say the flavors weren't as bold as I was expecting from Vietnamese food. A solid spot overall. They started us off with complimentary shrimp chips and they were delicious and dangerously addicting. Massive crunch factor, though some pieces were a bit oily. Banh Canh Cua / Crab Udon ($16.90): Lots of seafood. The crab lumps and sliced pork were the highlights and the broth was good too. Regular Saigon Oi / Broken Rice Dish ($20.90): The rice plate was huge with a good amount of delicious veggies. The pork chop, shrimp, and Chinese sausage were all solid. The rice was a bit dry so you will want to soak it in the nuoc cham. The egg cake was overcooked though. Banh Trang Nuong / VN Pizza ($11.50): Our least favorite item of the meal. The banh trang crust was super hard and really difficult to bite through, and cutting it was a pain. The toppings were generous though and I liked that the quail eggs were runny. Pho Bac / Pho Cocktail ($14): A combination of pho fat infused tequila reposado and Thai chili infused mezcal with a big Thai basil garnish. I actually liked this one more than the other cocktail. The flavors were subtle and easy to drink. Dung Chut La Qua / Egg Coffee Martini ($14): Great concept but the execution needs some work. I wasn't a fan of the coffee liqueur they used since it left a bad aftertaste. The egg foam was good though and not too sweet. Banh Bot Chien / Crispy Rice Cake ($12): The rice cake was a bit bland and only lightly crisp so you definitely need the sauce. The egg was fluffy and I liked the Chinese sausage with the pickled carrots and daikon. A few of my friends and I came here for cocktails and some snacks. I had a chrysanthemum cocktail. It was very mild and not too strong . It's a very good choice for people who are just starting out drinks or just prefer the lighter taste of flavor . I'm not a big fan of the banh Trang nuong. It was okay. Very crispy and thin. But maybe too crispy for me. I loved the grill oysters tho. They were plump and decent sized. Well, that was nice and sweet and they checked on us a few times. The place is really cute and very decorative and fits the theme. They have a lot of good stuff on their menu and I really like how they have a photo version. So this time, I decided to try something different and went with the Cao lau. Wow it was so delicious! This deliciously marinated thinly sliced pork paired with lettuce and aromatics, a nice helping of thick rice noodles and a savory sauce that paired well with the pork seasoning. All the flavors added up to a party in my mouth lol. It's a little deceiving to call it a soup dish because it's more like a sauce that it comes with. The sauce is not shown in the picture. Prices are higher than what you'd expect, but you can see where it's going -- complimentary shrimp chips at the table, really attentive and kind service, and a menu with higher-end ingredients and some more unique dishes. Standouts for me were the banh canh cua -- the soft shell crab was the highlight of the meal -- and the shaking beef, which was also delicious. That said, while everything was good, it's not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit again. Located right next to the Starbucks off the corner, J.A.M is really conveniently located with lots of parking. The inside is super cute, with cherry blossom trees and other decor around the brightly lit bar. I'm sure it feels completely different at night. My friends and I ordered the vermicelli noodles with tofu, pork and shrimp respectively (not pictured) and this delicious crispy rice dish called Banh Canh. While the actual banh canh is subtly flavored, it comes with this delicious fish sauce that comes with huge flavor. It's slightly sweet, spicy, sour and very umami. Overall a great dish with lots of texture. The vermicelli noodles with shrimp came out nicely, with tons of veggies and fresh herbs. It was so fresh and really refreshing. The food came out a bit slowly, but with the quality, I can totally understand why. The servers are attentive during this time, offering free shrimp chips, topping offs on water and other drinks, and are generally good conversation. The owner had posted videos of his food creations on IG and they all looked really good so I've bookmarked this place for some time. When my friend from out of town came to visit and wanted Viet food, we decided to give it a try. Love that the place was in a shopping center so it was easy to get in and out on Westheimer. Parking was easy to find too. The cars can move pretty quick in the area so keep a lookout for the cars. Once inside, we were seated promptly and were given water and shrimp chips to snack on after ordering as we wait for our orders to come out. For food, we ordered banh bot chien to share and their special pho with the bone marrow. The banh bot chien was probably the most beautiful I've ever seen. It tasted like how I've always remembered the dish, but a bit more leveled up with the Chinese sausage, pickled vegetables, and other garnishes. For the pho, I always like to taste the broth first before adding anything in and it was really good - Many depths of flavors. I LOVED IT. The bone marrow also gave it a more buttery, richness. The only thing I added was a bit of the lime for a crisp lift and some herbs. No hoison sauce was needed for me. Also, there was a ton of protein in this bowl. I left so full. Since everything came out together, I ate the pho first before the banh bot chien. Next time, because I do plan to come back, I would ask for banh bot chien first because I think it would've tasted even better when it first got to the table vs a little later when it cooled off. Inside, I think the place looks good aesthetically. It's definitely more on the hipster neighborly style. Glad I finally got to try it! A few notes for anyone who plan to bring a little one: There are high chairs for use and they can provide their plastic to go container and silverware (if you don't bring your own). Foodwise, we ordered: **Banh Bot Chien (fried rice cake): this is an amazing dish and one of the best ones I've ever had. The rice cake chunks are try to an extra crispy level while the egg base foundation is soft, light, and fluffy to create a very nice texture on bites. Even the addition of chinese sausage bits (uncommon among other restaurants but very well excuted idea) elevates the dish. The dipping/drizzle sauce is mildly season just right without being too overly salty. **Pho Combination: for the most part was done well. The broth imparted a lot of complex savory flavors that is traditional for this noodle soup dish. The amount of side vegetables and green bean sprout and basil or generous. However the beef flank was a bit too tough to chew through, requiring us to forcibly rip and tear the meat as opposed to just chewing it. The other toppings were fine. read more

While their prices are a little higher than your typical spot -- it's actually justified because the quality of the food you're getting and their attention to detail. J.A.M takes your typical Vietnamese dishes like pho and com tam and amplifies it. Their presentation is also on point. Went here in the afternoon and they were out of banh bot chien and Cau lau. Seriously disappointing considering we drove over an hour to try here. This is the last time I'll be trying any modern-looking Vietnamese restaurant with my parents, it was embarrassing. We also tried the branzino on the specials menu and the skin had an awful burned aftertaste despite the actual fish not being overcooked (tasted undercooked if anything), somehow transferred the burn flavor to the glass noodles below it. The pho was good imo, but my family did not enjoy it very much. And the bo ne seemed to be decent, but you can get better elsewhere. read more

We arrived at JAM Viet Kitchen & Bar before the Sunday lunch rush, when there were only a couple of small tables occupied. The friendly server greeted us immediately and took our order. We ordered chicken pho, crab udon, and a couple of appetizers. The tofu appetizer was the first dish served after we waited for 30 min, followed by my pho 15 min later, and another 15 min later, the rice cake appetizer came. We waited another 15-20 min for the crab udon, saw two other tables that arrived after us being served the crab udon, so I waved down our waitress to inquire. She came back and told us a server in training had delivered our udon to another table and that it would take 20 minutes to remake it. After being in the restaurant for over an hour, my husband canceled the order, paid and left still feeling hungry. It's a shame because the dishes that did arrive were unique and tasted quite good. However, the lack of organization, timing, and follow-up from the staff completely overshadowed the food. A quick check-in from the wait staff would have caught the missing order much sooner. Management needs to do better with staffing. It's embarrassing to have only 3 people (INCLUDING THE BARTENDER) running the floor for a FULL packed restaurant on a Wednesday's night. Not upset at the waiters, more so upset at management for poor scheduling skill. Super cute and yummy spot! I loved the shaken beef and the garlic noodles, everything was seasoned great and cooked well. The chicken wings are no joke. Fried to perfection with thin crispy skin and the wings are massive. Overall the presentation of everything killed it! The interior of the restaurant is also super cute and clean. Food was fresh and delicious! Entree portions are pretty large and filling. I got the crab udon dish and WOW! It had crab meat, crab claws, and a fried soft shell crab. Udon is not traditional but the clear udon which I prefer. Broth was hearty and flavorful. Saigon oi (broken rice dish) probably the best I've ever had. Came across this spot thanks to a post @LovelyMimi made on TikTok when she did a food challenge here with Raina. That video definitely put this place on our radar. We decided to check it out for a Father's Day lunch. The restaurant has a lot of seating and it was pretty full when we arrived, but we were seated right away, which was great. I really liked the table and plate settings--simple and stylish. The only small things I noticed was the table felt a bit sticky and the spoons looked more like serving spoons because of how big they were compared to regular spoons. Not a huge deal, just something that stood out. Other than that, I loved the setup and atmosphere. Our waitress was new and it was her first day! She was super kind, informative and upfront, letting us know the food might take a little longer because they were at full capacity. Totally understandable and we appreciated the heads-up. Here's what we ordered and how we felt about each dish: *Popcorn Chicken & Fries - 8.7/10: The chicken was tasty but the portion felt a bit small compared to the fries. Also, the fries were kind of plain--could've used some seasoning or salt. *Pho Bo - Special - 8.5/10: The broth had good flavor, but it wasn't as hot as my husband prefers. He loves his pho steaming hot, so just a personal preference there. *Shaking Beef w/ Garlic Noodles - 9/10: Great flavors. The beef was super flavorful, though the portion was on the smaller side and the pieces were a bit big--smaller bites would've made it easier to enjoy. *Shrimp Fried Rice - 9/10: Loved the flavors on this one. Coming from California I'm spoiled af.. If y'all from California and like any of the kei concepts restaurant you have to come here just to try it. Im not gonna lie I really thought Westminster and garden grove had the best Vietnamese food in the US but Houston's Vietnamese food is also good in different ways! The garlic shaken beef was mid to me, the banh xeo tacos is probably the best thing here, canh cua was a little bit too thick and salty in my opinion, egg rolls were meh, shaken beef pasta was surprisingly good and the Bo ne was mediocre at best. We all got tired of eating American bbq so we opted for Asian food instead.. this wouldn't be my first option for Vietnamese food in Houston but it's decently priced and the portions are fair. read more

I've been here a handful of times and really enjoy their Viet food with a modern twist. Ambience is chill and parking is easy to find. Spacious inside and good for groups as well. We never have to wait to get seated.
