I've been meaning for a long time to update my review for KD... less than 6 months after purchasing my special order rims here the black paint inexplicably started flaking off. My husband and I both have jobs that are difficult to get off of during the week. Since KD isn't open during the week, this has been a perpetual challenge. Additionally, we are a single car family and my husband needs the car for his job, so its almost impossible for us to address things that we don't feel are very important. Were we pissed? Absolutely. But it was esthetic, so lesson learned. But KD had promised us free tire changes with the life if the tires due to our purchase of custom rims, so we figured we would cut our losses since 2 changes a year equals over $200 a year. We figured KD was nice and they had earned customers for life with service like that. We liked the idea of buying bougie rims and tires her for our baby. Fast forward to our first seasonal change. Everything went fine. We have the receipt to prove it. But subsequent efforts to schedule a change over proved too challenging due to our work schedules so we stopped going here. Periodically we would call to see if they ever added weekend hours just during the seasonal tire over time, but sadly no. You'd think maybe they would do a Tuesday-Saturday thing or something.... but nope. Anyway, that's not what was the clincher that pissed me off. Finally in 2025 my husband has some seniority at work and is able to get a day off during the week off and drops the car off for the seasonal change over. And when he picks it up they charge him. And when he reminds them about our rims and their policy they refuse to honor it. What makes it worse is he posts his concerns Yelp, he gets a PHONE CALL from KD asking him to retract his review and they don't acknowledge that they every had a policy regarding free mounting and balancing. I call bullshit. I have the damn receipt. You can't put tires on a car without mounting and balancing. That's idiotic. Are you used to dealing with people who have no knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance?!?! I really thought this was one of the few quality vehicles places in town and am very disappointed to learn that is just another bunch of crooks who lie and swindle. There's nothing discount about this place. You want discount, go to Costco or something. I am the kind of person that prefers to support smaller business and pay a little more. But not if I'm gonna get lied to and cheated. Fck that. read more

EDIT: I raised my previous review (last year) to 5 stars. I'd give more if possible! These guys are great in a time where customer service is often lacking. Again, the guys up front are super, and even the shop manager (?) came out to discuss my wheels with me (they are oversized and a little tricky). They went above and beyond what I would have expected from a tire changeover. My tires (and even the inside go my Bronco) were wrapped in plastic. They did forget to mark them again, but I'll take fault for that. I meant to mark them before I went in and also forgot! I've lived in AK my entire life and have had countless tire changeovers. I called to get new tires and have them mounted, they gave me a same day appointment. I was in and out in 45 minutes and my old tires were bagged and in the back of my car. They were very efficient and polite which made the experience great! There is a comfortable waiting area and convenient vending machines as well. After a horrible experience from another tire shop mounting one of my new tires backwards and hammering steel weights on my expensive black alloy wheels I came to KD Discount Tire with the bar set very low. These guys go back on what they say last year change over was free cause I was told as long as I bought the tires from them the change over is free for life of the tires but today they back tracked and said we have to charge you so Be sure you record what the sales person says cause they will take it away from you after tires are bought slick won't go there again read more

One day the Ford Fleet sales disappeared on 5th Avenue, the building was painted an odd bright green color and a new sign went up, KD Discount Tire & Accessories. We were on the hunt for a nice set of rims for my vehicle and a few friends said they had had good luck at KD so we decided to check them out. Walking in, it isn't very appealing; it's just kind of blah. It's tires though, can't expect much. Two gentlemen were quick to greet us and let us know one of them would be with us shortly. There were probably 5-6 other people around, some waiting for their vehicles others waiting to chat and get their vehicle scheduled. We took a couple minutes and looked at the wheels on the wall and only one spoke to us.... Tyler then helped us, told him what we were looking for and I showed him a photo of a wheel I liked, however they didn't carry. He pulled up all the wheels they had in stock that worked for my vehicle and the one on the wall was on that list. They had it in two finishes and he didn't hesitate to grab one of each and take outside so I could see what they'd look like on my rig. Funny thing, we went with the initial one that caught our eye!! Tyler was quick to get us a quote and they also instantly took $100 off for a military discount!!! We figured out our schedule for the next day and he got me into a 1:00 appointment. I asked if they would allow me to bring my dog into the showroom while I waited (since he goes to work with me daily) and they said "most definitely!" My summer tires are brand new at home so we loaded them up and brought them in the following day as scheduled. Nick was quick to get me checked in for my appointment, I signed for the approval for them to work on my car and sat down in the waiting area with pup in tow! Several employees walked through as I waited and most acknowledged me and one let me know they were almost finished. They did run quite a bit longer than I was told it would take but their customer service and keeping me informed through the process made it not so bad. Great experience overall and they let me know that they do the swap over for my summer and winter tires now for the life of my wheels if I need them to do so. read more

The staff are great! I went there to get a tire looked over to find out my options. I'm from NC and have lived in AK almost 11 years. People in some of the lower 48 states don't take the time to explain that you don't replace one tire and expect for your car to still ride as it should. Or that all the tread should match every tire when you replace one that's damaged. The technician took the time to inspect all my tires and explain in detail why (in AK or anywhere) you should replace all tires at one time or sign a disclaimer for not doing so. I found out I had two damaged tires instead of one. The staff really took care of my car situation after I had been getting the run around trying to find tires like the ones on my car. I ended up with a brand new set of tires and I got my front brakes pads and rotors replaced all at the same place. I made an appointment for my service, dropped the car off, and they finished working on it earlier than expected. I was well pleased. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

It's really hard to give these folks anything more than two stars. They are listed on the Mickey Thompson website as the local vendor, so I called to get a quote on some pretty spendy tires. Well, they didn't answer, and I left a voice mail. Gave it a couple of days and the same thing, no answer, and no response. I know folks get busy, so I send them an email, but still nothing. KD Tire is the best place in town. I've purchased tires in the past and done a snow-tire changeover. Each experience has been pleasant and professional. They perform excellent work at a fair price, and do it with a smile. How a business should be run! I've dealt with 3 other tire shops in town (they have commercials) and have had mediocre experiences at best. Of note, I have had some difficulty in reaching them by phone. However after standing in line and seeing they prioritize the customers already there provided an explanation. Car tire had a nail in it and they patched it up quick and easy while also checking on a couple concerns I had about the intake valve not taking air. They found metal in the valve, removed it, and checked the sensor at no cost after patching the hole. $15 for the whole deal! Kind and thoughtful workers in person and on the phone. This was by FAR a wonderful experience!!! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful!! They had toys for my kids to be entertained as we waited (if you're a parent you can appreciate the notion). Also, what blew me away is we saw a screw in our tire and came to get it fixed. Apparently there was a screw and a nail! Its winter season and every Alaskan resident is trying to change over their tires so all shops in town are booked. I knew this going into the shop. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Tyler. His customer service was awesome. Super helpful, answering questions, inspecting my tires. Just over all good customer service experience. Not just with him, but all the employees I came into contact with. Took about an hour to get my tires changed, but that was expected. Paid $80 for everything, which was a pretty fair price. Waited in their lobby/wait area. The entire shop was clean and organized. Coffee, water, and vending machines for customers waiting. Overall had a good experience. For being "discount tire" they are $300 to $400 more than competitors. Called for a quote on Tires for a Subaru Forester first quote was $1049 (American Tire quoted $880). I mentioned I can get tires online fir $90 each, and was told "if you bring me a new set from Amazon, I'd charge you $400 for the install." So, you know where I'm not going for installation. Not even thinking about repair vs. new tire, I called a few places and every one before these guys didn't mention that they could check to see if it could just be repaired. I called these guys up and they were so professional and offered me options. I drove to their location and was met by Gabe, who demonstrated the exact level of professionalism, friendliness, and assistance. He checked me in, mentioned that the work could take up to 60-90 minutes. Tire was repaired in less than 60 min. Justin checked me out and he was just as friendly and professional. In a time when customer service seems to offered by fewer and fewer companies, KD Discount Tire is a beacon of hope for a cynic like me. I had a 2015 Mercedes C400 with run flat performance tires. A rear tire had a puncture and the Mercedes dealership refused to repair it without anything more than a quick visual inspection. Thought I was going to have to buy at least two new, very expensive, tires. On a referral from a co-worker, I went to KD. I was greeted by Gabe who was professional, polite, and knowledgeable. After a visual examination of the tire, he told me the limitations of what they could repair, and also informed me the tire would need to be removed from the wheel to do a proper diagnostic inspection. I left it with him along with a request for a replacement cost should the tire prove unrepairable. Less than an hour later I received a call from Gabe. Before I disclose the content of that call I would like to say I am not a bot, nor a principal in the business, nor do I know anyone affiliated with KD Discount Tire. I am just your average Johnny Lunch Bucket who rarely sees this kind of service. Gabe let me know that, in fact, the tire was repairable and the work had already been completed. I won't say how much they charged me but it was a smoking deal!! I gave this young man an easy path to sell me a new set of very expensive tires, yet he chose to to the right thing.
