    Napa Auto Price
    After Action R.

10/10/25 - My husband went to Eagle River Point S Auto & Tire for a simple oil change, hoping to support a local small business. Unfortunately, this shop turned what should have been a $209 service into an attempted $559 charge. The shop is rude and shows no customer service skills. More concerning, they tried to trick us by charging for one part (fuel filter) twice, listing it under two different names to make it appear that two separate items were needed -- but they were only providing one. Both parts were identical, yet one was marked up about 161%, and another an outrageous 682% over market value. This deceptive pricing may violate Alaska's Consumer Protection Act, which prohibits unfair and misleading business practices, and I am tempted to file a complaint. After this experience, I can only imagine how they're tricking others who come here -- especially elderly customers or women who may not understand or just can't make these mechanical repairs themselves. What happened to good and honest people running businesses with integrity? Advice to other customers: If you've had service done here, check your receipts carefully to ensure you weren't double-charged or misled about what was replaced. Supporting local shops shouldn't mean getting taken advantage of. I'm attaching photos of the receipt with the "recommended" fuel filter ($126 & $165), which we purchased for $49.49, and the cabin filter ($59), which we purchased for $18.99.

This place is great. I will never go anywhere else for tires. They beat Johnson's quote by 500 bucks! Very helpful too. Very impressed.

Unfortunately, the warranty I was sold there can only be used through their service department, and dealing with them has been an absolute nightmare for even minor repairs. Bonnie stepped in and walked me through everything with patience and professionalism. Because of her, I'm now in the process of canceling that warranty and switching to one that allows me to use Big O exclusively. That peace of mind means everything to me. I've trusted shops like Big O Auto Repair before--my last truck lasted 20 years because I had honest, reliable mechanics who did the job right the first time, never cut corners, and stood behind their work. That kind of trust is hard to find. The team at Big O is exactly that--honest, knowledgeable, and genuinely committed to taking care of both you and your vehicle. I have full confidence that with their help, my current truck will go just as far. If you're looking for a place you can trust with your vehicle, this is it.

I stopped in to ask what needed to be done. Was it an oil change was it a tuneup. They acted like I stole the car. I'm literally standing there with the car.. same license plate ...same VIN... gave them all the information they needed to look in the system. I wouldn't recommend them... if they're not enough of a service to be forthcoming to recognize a vehicle that they've worked on with the work history. If they try to bullshit you about why...they will bullshit about worked needed. I wanted to keep the car there at that shop, but given the attitude of the woman that I was dealing with and given the reluctance to even entertain trying to at least give me the basic. "It's an oil change". I couldn't trust them, and I won't trust them and you should not either. I took this car to Audi and I got all the history on this car from that dealership. If you have a Volvo, Tarn and his team at Independent Auto are going to become your good friends…read more Why? Because Volvos, while nice, are one of the most unreliable brands of car you can buy. They are consistently in the bottom quarter for reliability whether you're looking at JD Power or Consumer reports. If you're a Volvo owner that doesn't believe me, either A) you got lucky or B) you value anecdotes over data. Here is the 2022 Consumer Reports Auto Reliability Report rankings of major automotive brands: 1. Lexus 2. Mazda 3. Toyota 4. Infiniti 5. Buick 6. Honda 7. Subaru 8. Acura 9. Nissan 10. Mini 11. I was "subscribed" to a Volvo for 2 years and, fell in love. At the end of the subscription, all my payments counted towards the principle and...it just felt stupid to NOT buy it. Now, Volvo is steadily making its money back through maintenance and part costs. This is a 2019 car (XC40) and, already, the driver's side seat heater stopped working. Tarn and his team looked into it, ordered another heating coil and...it still wasn't working. They said I would have to go to the Volvo dealership. You could tell that he said this with sadness in his voice. I have an appointment at Volvo for October 17th, they are charging me $200+ just to DIAGNOSE the seat heater issue. My previous car, a 2006 Acura TL, had 170,000 miles on it over 11 years and never had an issue with any of its seat heaters. Tarn was able to help with my 60,000 mile brake job. The brakes were grinding and his team replaced them for an eye-watering $1,570. After doing lots of research...that seems to be the going rate, not a hideous mark-up. Insane. It took a while for Independent to get the parts. I left my car with them while I was in Fairbanks for work for a week and came back and...they still didn't have the parts. They were kind throughout the whole process and explained to me the issues. And, when they finally attempted the seat heater (that they ultimately couldn't fix, sadly.) they gave me a Volvo loaner car to use, and they didn't charge me to diagnose the issue...as the dealership already has committed to.

Which we did and found they helped but did not fix the issue. Called back and scheduled the appointment.
