    Seared Ahi Plate
    Xin L.

My friend and I came to Pearlridge's village market which happens every Saturday night. Kealoha seafood is a truck towards the entry of the market. A lot of their dishes are deep fried, ranging from deep fried ahi to cheese burgers, but they have a focus on seafood (obviously by their name). We got the seared ahi plate with rice and shoyu ahi poke. This was INSANELY good. The ahi was more fried than seared, as there was a battered crust. The ahi was done to a medium, meaning that there were still a bit of raw ahi peaking through, which I LOVED and enjoyed a lot. The sauces (unagi and spicy mayo) drizzled on top was perfect and made every bite super flavorful. The shoyu ahu poke as a side was also a perfect pairing, it was soft and tasted fresh. Both my friend and I DEVORED this and enjoyed this a LOT. I would really recommend this specific item, but I'm sure their other dishes would be good too ( can't go wrong with fried).

    Ahi katsu

Hawaii's transient food scene continues to surprise. This time, with well cooked, fresh fish, and flavor, creative sauce blends. It is not perfect but with some reengineering on your part... The ahi katsu, thick chunks of perfectly cooked (mid well) fresh ahi topped with a combo of yum yum and a spicy dynamite sauce, solid. The coating on the outside is much harder possibly from using a starch based slurry before rolling in panko then deep frying. It might not be for everyone. The mahi mahi tempura would be a failure if not for the absolutely perfectly cooked, fresh mahi mahi inside and how well it pairs to a sauce that seems to be a honey mustard miso aioli. Peel off the soggy coating and all is good. Plates come with an interesting mayo based potato / broccoli salad that matches the sauces better than the white rice. Portions are extremely generous and priced right, averaging $20. Local, friendly service. Follow on IG for popup locations around the Island. Looking forward to trying non deep fried dishes. With the spot on cooking, I have high expectations.

Was fortunate enough to try this place at the Waikiki Ho'olaulea Street Fest, and I'm so glad we did! Nice large portions at a really good price and everything we tried was super delicious. This was one of my favorite food stops in at the festival and I'd gladly come back.

    Overwhelming amount sauce.

Long line at 12:30 downtown. So expectation is that would still have food. Wanted fish...ordered salmon and mahi. Out of both. Okay, soft shell crab? Out of that. Only Ahi. Disappointing since it's got "Seafoods" in the name. Ended up getting the garlic shrimp and chicken plate. Seems like choke food, but it's mainly choke rice on the bottom and choke sauce on the top. Tasted okay, but can't really taste the shrimp or chicken with all that sauce. I ordered noodles...by itself. It is literally just noodles by itself. Some burnt onions. No taste. Bought for baby...I'm gonna have to fix it for her. They selling edamame for fundraiser. She pronounces it "eeedamame"...but it was the best think I got! Maybe go brunch time next time to get other seafood...

Double Patty Smash Burger and Fries
    Keola K.

What a delectable treat for lunch The Order: Smash Burger and Fries It did NOT disappoint. I was first surprised it was a double patty burger, loaded with meat. The burger was huge, juicy, cheeses and that creamy sauce. I'd definitely eat this burger again The fried weee also awesome, slightly battered and great crispy crunch bite topped with their creamy sauce and teri sauce. If you like fried food, this is your jam......fried musubis. Fried fish and shrimp, fried smash burger, fried ice cream haha. Glad I stopped by their food truck today at the Mililani Keiki fair.

Fried spam musubi with ahi poke at the Poke Fest.

#18 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) This review is for a dish we had at the Poke Fest. Nothing had caught our eye yet until we walked by their food truck. I love when restaurants have a sample of what their food looks like. That let's me eat with my eyes first! Everything looked good but we settled on the fried musubi topped with spicy ahi poke. Food was ready in minutes and we found a place to sit and enjoy. I tasted the poke first and it was delicious. Very fresh, great flavor and texture. Was it spicy? No, not really but very good. The dish had 2 fried spam musubi's cut in half. I liked the crunch from them being fried but there was very little flavor. However when I topped each bite with a piece if poke that was the key. You needed the flavor and sweetness of the poke to go with the spam musubi. We ate it all and decided it was our favorite of the evening. We'll definitely frequent them again!

Ordered the soft shell crab sandwich with one egg on top and slaw. The bugggah was meaaaaan. So flavorful. Definitely will be back for more. The owner is super cool and fun fo' talk story with toooo.

Discovered this food truck parked at the the bishop museums Science and sustainability fair and decided to try something new and it really was delicious. I ordered the deep fried smash cheeseburger with fries. The burger patties and cheese were breaded and then deep fried together so it's crispy on the outside instead of using soft bread and it's a wonderful texture and flavor. Hope to eat here again soon

Braddah "Wings" & Garlic Shrimp with only 2 poorly made BBQ wings $18
    Kathy L.

Ordered their Braddah Wings & Garlic Shrimp plate and it did not turn out anything at all like their example plate. The wings on their example plate looked like the crispy spicy wings you'd get from Safeway but the wings they gave me were not only BBQ wings(which I done care for) but they only gave me 2 wings masked in the shrimps garlic sauce. They tasted cold & chewy like they've been sitting out all day. So the plate was basically all garlic shrimp and fries with 2 sad BBQ wings. What's the point of even calling it Braddah wings plate? If they ran out of their standard wings, I wouldn't have been mad and would've appreciated their transparency-some sort of heads up so that I could possibly order a different dish from them. But, nope...not a single peep from them. The whole plate was $18. Not cool and NEVER ordering from them again.

Oh my gosh so yummy! I've seen them on Instagram but never had a chance to try this food truck until finding them at the Pearlridge Saturday Night Pop Up. I was excited! I love that they had a plate of each item to show what it would look like and it definitely looks like the picture. Took maybe 15 minutes, more like 10 to order and get my food. The line was steady and they were pumping out food just as quick. I opted for the Spicy Ahi Salad $20 and I would definitely order it again. Just enough greens and dressing with a nice scoop of spicy ahi poke and deep fried ahi musubi. Look forward to trying something else.

    Jeff A.

There's no doubt this is one of the best deals of any food truck. Do they use the best cuts of fish? No but it's decent. Is the poke fresh? No it's frozen. Does the food taste good? Hell yeah. Are the portions generous? Unbelievably so. $18 gives you a RIDICULOUS amount of seafood. It tastes good and fills your belly. They are currently at the night market/food truck event at the bottom of Ward Ave every Saturday. I'll be back. Mahalos to the owner for delivery quality meals to local people at affordable prices. We appreciate you.

    Salmon and ahi sashimi
    Lauren W.

Wowzaaa, this place serves good food and giant portions! 10/10 service- the owner is so friendly, and he even gave us samples to help us decide what to order 10/10 food- we got the $20 two choice plate and went with da famous beef (super tender twice braised beef) and the special of the day, monchong katsu (fish was moist and batter was perfectly crispy). He also threw in a scoop of spicy ahi and let us choose a platter of sashimi, and the fish was so fresh!! 3 of us split all of it, and we were stuffed. Such good value for the price! Definitely worth trying to find this food truck wherever it's at for the day. We found it on a Friday night at the end of ward Ave near the wharf.

I just love the vibe SALT and surrounding Our Kaka'ako brings with the vibrant art we're so blessed to have and this particular night (November 19th) there was actually much more shopping just perfect for the holidays and the party went further down to Ya-ya's. Tonight I was fortunate to have gone after work so I kept it short but found some awesome treats. Some straw toppers to add to my holiday gift giving and some cheesecake cups (OG, Strawberry and Cookie Butter) of course I got one of each to share...ate the Strawberry which of course omg was yummy!! Not too sweet as the Strawberries was just perfect as I tried to get an even scoop of it all in every bite. Enough visits that this is no longer about catching them on a bad afternoon, ordering the wrong thing or failing to understand what the place is supposed to be. I've tried the different shrimp, stood in the lines, eaten at the tables, navigated the parking, brought people here and returned because, for a very long time, Giovanni's was simply one of those places you went when you were on this side of the island. At some point, repetition becomes evidence. The truck itself has become an artifact. Covered in signatures, battered by time, photographed millions of times. There was probably a period when all of that felt charming. Now it mostly feels tired. There is a difference between patina and neglect and the surrounding experience has increasingly crossed that line for me. Flies, crowded tables, overflowing activity, rough parking, heat, trash nearby. You can romanticize rustic only so far before rustic starts asking for a pressure washer. Then there is the service, which has consistently been the hardest part for me to understand. I don't need anyone performing hospitality like they're auditioning for a resort commercial, but basic warmth costs nothing. Too often the interaction here feels impatient and transactional, as though the customer is somehow inconveniencing the operation by showing up to buy the food. After enough visits, you stop calling that an off day. And then there is the plate. The shrimp itself is actually the least offensive part. It is generally cooked reasonably well. Tender enough, rarely destroyed and when you get a good batch you can understand why this formula became so popular. Everything around it drags it down. The rice has repeatedly been soft, clumped and bordering on mushy. I am annoyingly particular about rice, but rice is not some decorative substance placed beneath the main event. It matters. When half the plate is rice, screwing it up is not a minor detail. The garlic is abundant, certainly, but abundance and care are different things. It often arrives more like a wet mass of processed garlic than the fragrance and texture you get from properly chopped fresh cloves. Add the butter and oil and you certainly get intensity, but after several bites the whole thing becomes heavy rather than interesting. The little salad on the side generally feels like an afterthought that has been waiting for someone to remember it. And that is ultimately my problem with Giovanni's. The entire experience feels as though its reputation arrived at the destination years before the restaurant did and everyone decided there was no longer much reason to keep improving. People will continue coming. Of course they will. The name is famous, the truck is recognizable, the photographs are practically mandatory and nostalgia is one hell of a business model. I understand it because it worked on me for years. But strip away the mythology and ask a brutally simple question: If this exact plate came from an unknown truck with no history, no signatures and no reputation, would you still wait in line for it? I wouldn't. Two stars. The shrimp can still be decent and I have too many memories here to pretend the place means nothing to me. But nostalgia should bring you back to a restaurant. It shouldn't be responsible for making the food taste better. I kept returning because tradition can turn habit into taste. I'm done confusing the two.

I've seen this place so many times and I've even been to their neighbor which is the rainforest cafe- (exceptional Italian cream soda / like egg soda) I love the Lilikoi tart they have there. This time I actually went to get something and didn't realize they do sell "Andagi" I also bought a small thing of okinawin yakisoba. And two pieces of sweet mochi Truly not a disappointment. In fact this has that very open Okazuya style of takeout most times it does have order ahead in there were a few people before I bought my food that had larger orders to pick up so it is recommended that you call them ahead of time. They're very gracious people that work in there they're very kind. They're very courteous and they're very quick with the order. I don't believe I saw the yakisoba in the menu, but I seen it when I got to the window and the mochi ball and Andagi are very close to the counter window I highly recommend anyone who is in and around the area for a quick grab on a local favorite of a Japanese doughnut to come to this spot because the andagi- is much to appreciate it's one of these things that we know here in Hawaii to have that nice texture, The nice first crisp bite into the donut and then it leads into that delicious sweet cake doughnut part in the middle what we know as a Japanese donut, this carries its respected delightful reality... stop by this place because for $1.00 a piece... it's a crowd pleaser... I should have bought 10 of those things.. it's delicious when fresh and they keep really well into the end of the day.. Also I would definitely go back for the yakisoba the way it's made is delicious and I am one of those people that loves a good entrée that won't have meat or sometimes not even a hint of meat and this noodle dish is very good. I love how the vegetables were intertwined into the noodles sort of just not perfectly chopped, but it is tangled into the noodles as if it was another soba noodle- the carrots, spring onions, and if you see the accompanying picture- cabbage & or chopped boy choy. Thank you Teruya's Andagi. I will return
