Hollywood has a number of small beach parks with restrooms and parking for the locals to use to access the beach. Keating Beach Park is off the beaten path at the far north end of the Hollywood Boardwalk. This park was named in honor of former Hollywood Mayor David Keating. He served as a City Commissioner and Mayor from 1961 to 1986. In 1963 he took a walk on this stretch of beach and it cemented in his mind that it should remain public. For the next two decades he led the fight to save this strip of beach from Sheridan Street to the Hollywood-Dania Beach line from Hollywood Inc., a development company that claimed they owned it, not the city. On September 4, 1981, the Fourth District Court of Appeal sided with the city and decided that the 1.5 mile of beach belonged to the city. Anyone who uses the beach here today has David Keating to thank. Today Keating Beach Park is under construction. It looks like there is structural damage to the pavilion and it is fenced off. There is no parking in this area either. The restrooms are closed and the slide is gone. Still the beach remains a glorious wide strip on sundrenched sand. This area is frequented more by locals than tourists. Here is to hopping that Hollywood gets the repairs done and opens this area back up soon. read more

Hollywood Beach in Hollywood Florida is segmented into miniature beaches. Keating Beach is one of them. This was a very pleasant day on the beach experience. The sand is so soft and clean, with not a single bit of seaweed. This was so surprising, as just a few miles away there was a substantial amount of seaweed. There were palm trees that offered a perfect amount of shade if you prefer to lie and read your book or take a nap on the beach. Be sure to layer on the sunscreen, I used an SPF 60, and still walked away a bit flushed. The water was very comfortable and clean. I took a swim a few times, and this is in April. Why can't every beach be like Keating Beach? But wait... there was a lady who came and was yelling profanities, I thought she was on her phone, but she was actually just venting loudly to herself. She had all eyes on her, there was no stopping her. I suppose that's one way to exercise your freedom of speech! Keating Beach is as perfect as they come. This is a beautiful beach area a little down the ways from the Hollywood boardwalk. It's less commercialization. There are several beach access area and parking. There are bike paths all the way down to the fishing pier. We did see some man o wars on the beach, so you need to be careful swimming. Their tentacles can be several feet longer than their tiny floating body. There are trash cans around the beach, but sadly still way too much litter. Please pick up after yourself. Marine animals will eat the trash and die. read more

I often contemplate frolicking in the beaches of Miami amongst the perfectly tanned buffed fit bodies of the locals, but then I slap myself into reality. I like Florida people, my Nevada winter body will for sure make enemies not friends (Kidding, kidding, not). So I find myself at Keating Beach, a more family oriented beach where I can just chill and enjoy myself to the fullest extent. Parking at Keating Beach is 10 dollars at the picnic area.I believe you can stay there until six. Best time to get here is about 11 am, It wasn't too crowded for us. They have a lot of picnic tables with BBQ grills and mostly all in beautiful shaded areas. If you're in the mood to grill, this is the place but if you rather enjoy a nice meal, there are a lot of restaurants to choose from along the walk path, just keep walking along the beach. The locals are friendly and they are always eager to give you some suggestions for good grub. Margaritaville is the place for what, of course margaritas and you get a blender looking refillable souvenir. Well worth the money I hear. I saw a lot of people enjoying the free concert and dancing with these in their hands. This spot is definitely good for a nice relaxing time. I sure enjoy my time here whenever I come. read more

A hidden gem of a beach. Keating beach is located between the more well known Dania Beach and Hollywood beach. It is part of North Beach Park therefore it has paid parking, restrooms and a snack bar nearby. The parking lot fills up fast so make sure you go early. Otherwise you might be trekking it from other areas that you can park like the side streets from Pershing to Custer. The snack bar has a short menu of basic items. I'd suggest packing a cooler if you plan to stay any length of time. I like that it is a distance away from the busy Broadway with restaurants and small shops that attract large crowds. This area is quiet and more serene. It's a great place to chill out for the afternoon. The water is shallow so many people wade out and enjoy the water without waves crashing on them. It's nice to walk along the shore and see the shells too. I like this beach so much that I hope you forget this review after you read it. read more

A hidden gem! Very peaceful hideaway and even more amazing at night! I love this spot because it's so hidden from the crowds, which is always a plus. The only pain is parking during the day. You'll be very lucky if you find a spot to be honest, very small parking lot. But what I do enjoy is that at night, no one bothers you. Of course, be safe at all times, but it's actually open and so you could sit by the water and just relax or have a cute date. I wouldn't advise swimming, it's very cold and extremely windy. Whenever I go for my walk I ALWAYS stop here. This is my midway stop and I love stopping here for my water break and just sit and watch the waves. I believe this area isn't as crowded since it's not in front of the hotels, condos or business. I see people put up a hammock between the trees and just relax. Honestly though-I'm not sure how I lived here for 3 years and never knew that there was a beach named after me until last summer. I kind of don't want to review it because I want to keep it a secret, but it seems like it has been a well-kept little secret thus far. Every time I had come to Hollywood beach, we would drive down to the south side of town, park at the ramp, and hang out down by the boardwalk. This seems to be a popular school of thought because down south is where the party's at, all the attractions and restaurants are, etc. Up north is where all the smaller parallel streets are where you're lucky to get a parking spot past 10 am. I have come to the doggy beach off Custer occasionally, and it's even further north of here, but man when I say that there's a difference in the color of the water between here and Lauderdale, I mean it. In the 2-3 miles. I think it has something to do with the reef, there's no other explanation that makes sense unless the water is a ton more shallow. But this beach is a bit more "rough" in the sand meaning you will find a lot more shells, seaweed, and it won't be as powdery soft as the sand up near Beach Place. That also means you will find a lot fewer people and a lot fewer drunk people than at Beach Place. This is lovely because as much as I love people watching, sometimes you just want to CHILL without people in your way making a ton of noise. This beach is a lot more romantic and away from everything. My kind of beach, but hopefully this review won't go viral and spoil that. read more
