Purchased a Sigma lens from them using a coupon they sent me. Their website accepted the coupon, except it applied 1/10th the value it was for. Called them about it and they rudely denied to honor the coupon, but admitting they were aware of the issue with their site, accepting coupons that they choose not to honor. Would you buy a used car from a dealer... without knowing the mileage? I was looking to purchase a used professional grade camera and I thought I'd give KEH a try. After checking out their online inventory I decided to give them a call. I was interested in 2 of their cameras in the $1000.00 to $2000.00 range. I wanted to know the shutter count as it is a good indicator of how much life is left in a camera - it has a major bearing on the value of a used camera in much the same way that mileage has a major bearing on determining the value of a used car. But when I inquired I was told "We don't provide that information." Full stop. Pardon??? So I politely asked again... I explained that a camera model with 10,000 actuations has a vastly different value than the same camera model with with 200,000 actuations. After a very long pause I received a somewhat sarcastic "So?" as a reply... and nothing more. So I wished the salesperson a good day... and took my business elsewhere. If you'd consider buying a used vehicle sight unseen without even knowing the mileage... than KEH may be an OK choice for buying a used camera. But a good used camera can cost as much or more than a lot of used cars, and if the dealer can't even be bothered to tell you the mileage then you might want to consider buying your next camera elsewhere. read more

Do not take your camera here for repair! Paid $350 for repair. Got the camera home and it still didn't work. Took it back and they refused to honor the warrantee even though they didn't fix it in the first place. I took Greico the repair manager two months to return our calls to be told we were lying the camera was working when they sent the camera to us. When we finally were able to get a hold of Greico he was rude condescending and called us a liar. Absolutely unprofessional. read more

When selling to KEH, they make you a good offer so you'll send it in, then they offer you about half when they get it and make it annoying to decline the offer, so people tend to just say screw it and take the offer. Sending it in is easy enough though. read more

I sent in some gear with an original quote of $188. It took almost a month for them to check what i sent in and when they did my quite went down to $59. I called seversl times and sent a couple emails requesting a break down of the $59 but was given no response. This should be basic because if i send in a camcorder & 2 cameras i should be provided with the final quote for each not just a lump sum. In any case nobody ever got back to me so their policy states that if they dont hear back the final quote is valid and a check will be mailed. Over 2 months passed and i reached out again by phone and email and the person i texted with sent me a check because i never got one to begin with. I requested a breakdown of the $59 and was told that it was only available when the offer was still open. I insisted that i wanted a breakdown and did not get a response and although the check arrived there is no record of my items nor a breakdown of my gear. Very unprofessional & very dishonest because i do see that 1 camera is graded bargain and the other excellent yet the one graded excellent had an original quote of $152 yet i received $59 for for the three items. Instead of fulfilling my order, KEH contacted me 2 days later and said "I'm sorry, the camera you ordered isn't available". Then they asked if I wanted to substitute a product - for $170 more! I could understand if it was the last camera, or even second-to-last, because warehouse issues happen -- but they had plenty available when I placed the order and they weren't willing to make it right afterwards. I just had my first experience with KEH, and my feelings are "decidedly mixed." Indeed, the process is fairly straightforward and well-automated. It is easier than selling gear on the open market. On the other hand, I was quite disappointed in their assessment of my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens. This lens was in excellent condition -- almost like new, though naturally showing some age after extensive use. However, they KEH drastically reduced the value of the lens to "Bargain" based on a claim of a "bent filter thread." I've used this lens with filters all along and have never noticed any bend/dent at all nor any effect of such. I'm left believing that either they damaged it during handling or that they amplified an "issue" so small that it had no effect on the lens into something inappropriately major so that they could low-ball the price. I had been urged to try a competitor when I sent in my two lenses, but I chose KEH because they made a higher offer. Next time I'll try the competitor. read more

Their system appeared too easy, and the estimates I received (based on my evaluations of each piece) seemed too good to be true. I was incredibly, pleasantly surprised when they emailed to let me know that some of my pieces had graded out even higher than what I expected--they paid me very near to the amount estimated. I accepted, and the money was on its way to my bank account through Paypal in less than 30 minutes. This is even more impressive to me because I have dealt with a local camera shop over many years (always tried to support local business), but they consistently low-balled appraisals even for trade. I can't imagine how little they would have offered for my sale of used gear. I also appreciate KEH's approach--rather than just "selling gear"--you are helping to pass along quality pieces to someone who is able to more fully utilize the gear and appreciate the wonders and joy of photography. I heard great things about KEH, so right after Christmas I ordered a camera body from them. Shipping was delayed, which I totally understand because of the holidays, but when the camera finally said it was delivered, it never showed up to my house. I called KEH and the first gentleman I spoke to was incredibly unhelpful and rude. He forwarded me to their supposed FedEx representative (who I was forwarded to like, 4 different times and never once heard back from). I was told to contact FedEx directly, who informed me that KEH had changed the shipping address of my package. KEH swore up and down that this was not possible. I called back the next day after not hearing anything and they pretended like they had no idea what I was talking about, but I was assured that somebody would reach out. Of course, nobody did, so I called a third time. Luckily, this guy was able to help me. He told me he'd call me back in a few days (this fell on New Years, so after the holiday). I never heard back from that guy, again (notice a pattern here?). I called back for a fourth time and talked to another gentleman that said my package would be shipped. I never got a confirmation, so I called back AGAIN for the 5th time, and learned it had never been shipped the day before. My camera should finally be delivered today, allegedly, but I will never be using KEH again. Nobody got back to me when they said they would, and most of the people I talked to were super rude and unhelpful. I could not be less impressed with this entire experience and was absolutely taken aback by how poor their customer service is. Again, I'd heard nothing but great things about this company before this, which made it even more disappointing. Had my camera just been late or lost by FedEx, I would have completely understood. I am very disappointed with the service. In attempting to buy a lens I supplied my credit card information. I received an email that the purchase was declined because the billing information I supplied was incorrect. After calling and verifying the information, the purchase was again declined. I called again and was told that because I was using a shipping address different from the billing address the company KEH uses to verify credit card purchases would not approve the sale. Given the number of packages stolen from residential deliveries, I would think that this company would understand using a shipping address different from the billing address is to be expected. I have ordered numerous times using a shipping address different from the billing address, e g with Amazon, and this is the only instance of the sale being declined. I think the problem lies with (1) the company doing the verification, and (2) KEH for using this company. I was offered the option of using PayPal, which requires an additional fee. No thanks to PayPal when I have a perfectly good credit card and no thanks to KEH for any future business. read more
