Amazing little family diner with a train car you can sit in and eat!! I've visited kehdes dozens of times for lunch and dinner and ordered out for lunch at work a ton great place friendly staff great food in great quality. Highly recommend you stop in if your in town or near by and willing to make a drive for some bomb food. Oh did I mention the pies are made from scratch and always fresh?! This was good food, but nothing to write home about. I had the Goober Burger, which is just an awful choice. The Burger without peanut butter and mayo would've been much better. The fries were good. I had an apple dumpling for dessert which was probably the best I've ever had. The railcar in which the dining room is located is pointlessly charmimg. read more

This is a good BBQ restaurant. More then the food being really good, the Train Car is a novelty. Draws patrons in. The service is excellent. They have a great selection of beers. Good location Plenty of parking Lot in the back for trailers or RV's to park as well. They have a massive menu , so i suggest opening your mind and trying something OTHER than the traditional BBQ plate dinners. Although those dinners are delicious, this place really shines when you start trying the posh's and specialty sandwiches. The society posh is a MUST TRY DISH. The Miss Piggy is a great chicken sandwich with smoked ham. WOW! The Fat albert is a must for burger lovers. I don't recommend sitting in the train car side of the restaurant if you are a party of more than 2, it can feel quite cramped . I also don't recommend the train car if you are a large person, or if you or someone in your party is elderly or has trouble getting around, the booths can be difficult to get in and out of. Fun old-timey diner, half of it in a diner car, decor is lots of MKT rail memorabilia. But don't let the kitschy train motif lull you -- this is seriously some of the best BBQ in the area. The baby back ribs were sweet & smoky, and falling off the bone, just as they should be. The "baggage" (sides) was just as excellent... fluffy sweet potato fries, onion rings with just the right batter. An order of curly fries is huge, and served as a block... seriously, they bring out a big cinderblock of fries, still in the shape of the frybasket, big enough to feed a table of four. November 2, 2013. I had a light lunch, knowing that I was going to Kehde's for dinner - wise choice. Our waitress, Karen, was great - funny, feisty and helpful. We ordered the smoked beef plate and the half chicken, both with two sides. My favorite sides (called baggage) were the baked beans and green beans. I should have asked for the sauce on the side because both meats were good without it. I ordered a small portion (3 oz?) of burnt ends to compliment my chicken - they were just fine without the sauce. Unfortunately they had just run out of ribs and apple dumplings (which Karen said were a must-have) so I guess that I'll be back to judge for myself. After a very warm visit to the Missouri State Fair we stopped at Kehde's for lunch on the way out of Sedalia based on the yelp reviews. Funny to find out it was a frequent stop by my daughter and her best friend while they attended University of Central Missouri and LOVED the deep fried pickles! Seated quickly & friendly staff. Once our order was taken the food was brought to the table quickly. We ordered the deep fried portabella and were brought both pickles & the mushrooms - I don't like pickles but my husband enjoyed them - I really enjoyed the portabellas. The menu is HUGE. So many choices. We decided to share a sampler platter of bbq. Baby back ribs, sliced turkey & brisket. Sides of beans and sweet potato fries. The sauce on the bbq is delicious. Great spice combo and a bit sweet. The ribs were cooked well and I enjoyed them. The beans were outstanding with bits of pork in them. The sweet potato fries were very plain but I still enjoyed them. I would recommend a stop here. The interior of the restaurant is a bit old style and decorated w/train stuff and the outside makes it look like an old drive in and not like the sit down restaurant that it is. Kehde's is a long time family favorite. We love the tenderloin sandwich or the Society with burnt ends, and pieces of pork and chicken and homemade BBQ sauce. The fresh cut curly fries, while greasy, are a Kehde's tradition not to be skipped. read more

I love this local restaurant and their food is to die for, the service however could use some work. The woman with salt and pepper hair who works the front comes off as unfriendly every time I pick up a to go order, which is ridiculous considering the place has been open for 30 minutes. No one should already be in a bad mood. Today when I went in to pick up our food I walked up to the counter and said I was picking up a to go order. This rude woman scoffed and gave me the most hateful look, assuming because I didn't say my name I guess. I apologized and said what order. She told me the total and I said I was paying for certain things with a card and cash. Again, acted annoyed by this. As I finished paying she picked up the only order on the counter... the rudeness is completely uncalled for and the food is good yes, but my coworkers and I would gladly get our lunch from Little Big Horn instead if the service continues to be this way. read more

I am a barbecue afficionado. I have eaten at well over 100 different barbecue joints/restaurants over the last few years-46 different places in KC alone. This was good but not great BBQ. I would recommend it, however, for the location alone. A very unique train car and busy location. I hope to go back some day and try more of the great looking menu. I did like the wait staff. VERY friendly and I felt very comfortable there. Place was extremely busy and I was still served quickly with multiple smiles. They get service right here. BBQ is 3 star and service/ambience is 5 star making it a 4 star location from my perspective. read more

I've been here a couple of times and I have yet to be disappointed. It's a good place to get BBQ in Sedalia. I usually get a baked potato with burnt ends with cheese and it's really good. I also throw in a side salad as well. Sitting in the train is an interesting experience. I also had some of the homemade pie the first time I went and it was very good! After all of the years we have been going to the lake, we finally stopped this month. We went on a Sunday shortly before noon and were able to get a table right away. I got the submarine sandwich which had smoked ham, turkey and salami. It was great. My husband ordered the pulled pork with slaw on top. He loved it. The barbecue sauce was delicious. My friends and I ate on the Train Car this past Friday night. We all ordered different BBQ items (ribs, sliced brisket and pork) and sides (salads, sweet potato fries, baked beans, broccoli with cheese, and green beans) on the menu. None of us were disappointed with any of our choices except the curly fries were too done. We were seated promptly and our waitress was very attentive and caring. I can see why Kehde's is rated #1 due to their attention to providing good service and food for their patrons. I'll be back to enjoy this place when I return to Sedalia!! read more

Surprisingly good for a tiny little town. Great place to bring the fam. Prices are right, kiddies can be entertained by the fact you can eat in an old dining car of a train, meat is tender and flavor full, beer is cold, service is prompt. Best barbecue we have had outside of Kansas City! Pretty heavy on the sauce, but it was very good, more sweet than savory. We had the society platters which came with burnt ends and pieces of other meat very good and two sides. The curly fries were some of the best we've ever had. The beans were very sweet. We saved room for dessert and had the chocolate meringue pie and the Apple crumble à la mode. Definitely homemade! Crust was amazing. We will definitely go back! read more

We usually get the burnt ends. Usually good, but depends on the day. Have had some not so good ones as well. Last time, Valentine's Day, one of our burnt ends order had 2 small bones in them. I'm glad an adult got that one and didn't choke. Food is like "home cooking" as for flavor. read more

When we heard burnt ends, we were like, uh doesnt sound good, but it was amazing. Apps were good, hot and fresh and had a ton of flavor. You can not eat everything they serve you at one time. We drove down from KC on a whim, have not been in many years, stopped in as we were pretty hungry. My husband got the Cattle Car burger, while it might have tasty, it totally fell apart on the first bit. The Texas toast was soggy, too much 'special' sauce, just an absolute mess, but he did not complain, I was the one annoyed. We also had the hand-cut fries, while a bit greasy they were pretty good, especially dipped in their bbq sauce. My only complaint about that was that the first ingredient on the list was HFCS, WOW. We also had the poppers. They were OK but they had cheddar instead of cream cheese. I did not even expect that so I did not think to read the menu. While they were decent, I really craved the ooze of creamy white cheese, so that was a real disappointment. The server (Bev) was great! read more
