We loved this place! We had been biking all day on the Katy Trail, and were looking for a place to grab some dinner on the way home. Much to our dismay, we had forgotten our bike locks, and didn't feel comfortable leaving them on the rack in the parking lot while we went inside to eat. We discovered that everything on the buffet was available to go, purchased by the pound. So we each filled a container, paid for a bottle of water, and ate some of our food in the parking lot before starting to drive back to Kansas City. Between the two of us, we tried several items and all were delicious! I had the General's chicken, an egg roll, crab Rangoon, and a couple of other things. The food was hot, fresh, and flavorful. There are not enough words in the English language to describe how absolutely terrible this place truly is! I honestly don't know how it stays open. It is located in an extremely old building with nothing but potholes for a parking lot. When you go in you immediately get a sense of dread because it is a very enclosed, claustrophobic space. But if you are adventurous enough to order food, the fun really begins. I have eaten in several Chinese restaurants but I have never encountered any food like this place. It really is just very ill prepared garbage that looks unappealing and tastes worse. I didn't see the kitchen and I'm sure I would be appalled by it if I did. The food is ok, the service is ok. The building is old. But the issue is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. They are disgusting. I'm not talking about a little dirty from a days use. I'm talking about years of build up, absolutely deplorable. Makes me wonder, if they can't clean a bathroom, what condition is the kitchen in. read more

Server really nice the booth table a lot of ads, but it's all right the food great except the sugar bread. They put a lot of sugar on it the dessert nice except the sushi a little icky taste but all right the bathroom not so good. The building is run down but I thought maybe the food was good, NOT! The food was cold and didn't taste quite right! After my spouse returned from the restroom she had lost her appetite. She said it was the filthiest restroom she had ever seen. After driving 10 miles down the road she was sick and had Montezuma's revenge! Never going back. read more

The service was good and we were seated fairly quickly. The food tasted good but was cold. Idk if their warmers are working properly.

We've eaten here many times in the past and was very pleased. After it changed owners we noticed a definite change in the quality of food. Last Saturday we ordered carry out for three of us, my order was chicken cashew and egg rolls. Taking three bites of the chicken cashew, was unable to swallow any of them due to the chicken was mostly chicken skin or small pieces of chicken attached to fat or skin. This place was so good! Staff were so friendly and helpful! We ate take out from the buffet. It was very reasonable at $8.99 per lb. Vegetarian options were abundant. The food was getting re filled quickly on the buffet and the place was very tidy. definitely going back next time we are in town. read more

I went for lunch buffet in spite of having misgivings, because other Sedalia Chinese places had low reviews too. I will start off saying the food is ok. I would say mediocre. But the service was excellent and the ladies that run the restaurant were really nice and that goes a long way for me. And my son thought it was delicious, hence four stars. Used to be a great place to go and eat dinner with family, now they're charging 10 year olds and up as adults for dinner we'll not be going back!! My first time in was on Black Friday, for the lunch buffet. My husband had been in a few times before for lunch and enjoyed it. The waitress was so cheerful and friendly! She recognized my husband from his few times in previously and seemed genuinely happy to meet his wife and step daughter. It was almost heart warming to see her welcome in others that had been in before and strike up a brief conversation with them. Great customer service plays a big part in wanting to come back again, especially when there are other options available in town. Fortune Palace is definitely getting this right! Food was good, fresh, and many choices available. We placed a sizeable order. Not pleased with each item. The quart of wonton soup was half-filled with liquid and only received 4 wontons. The lo-mein was overcooked also lacked flavor. The sweet and sour chicken was way overcooked. Not golden brown. Hard to chew. The remaining items all seemed tasteless and for the decent amount of money spent, we will order from another location in town. We wanted to support local business in the area during covid. We gave it a try and are moving on to a more reliable location. Maybe it's better if we try the buffet when things roll back to normal. After trying this places buffet the first time I was not impressed. The food was mediocre at it's best and the temperature was cold to lukewarm. I had decided to abstain from ever coming back again. About a year or so later a friend of mine had commented that she had been there and thought that it had improved and I should give it another try. I decided to give it another go and went there at the height of the lunch hour on a Monday at approximately 12:35pm. I should have seen the light when there was only one patron sitting by himself at a table. Once again I had found the same results as my previous trip, only it had decreased in quality even more and the food was cold and dried out. I don't see how at this time of day that a buffet should be so poor. How do they survive the food industry in an area with so much competition? If you do give this establishment a try make sure that you have a second choice in mind to retreat to. Good luck. read more
