I'd give these guys a 10/10 if I could. I have an older Jeep Cherokee just hitting 100k miles. I was told it was transmission issues but I wanted a second opinion. That's when I brought it to Kehoe and told Sean to tell me if it's worth getting fixed or should I trade it in. It ended NOT being the transmission but several sensors. It took several days as they're not open on the weekends but, he communicated that with me. Another problem arose after I got my car back and he prioritized getting my car back in to be fixed. He's been honest, reliable and communicated with me throughout the process. It's also been 100+ degrees these last few weeks and I appreciate anyone working outside. Another update: As I stated in my last submission, Kehoe runs hot and cold for me. In the summer, my air-conditioner starting behaving strangely. The engine would bog occasionally when the compressor engaged, cooling performance deteriorated, and finally the compressor clutch failed completely, not responding to its 12V input signal. I know these things because I was driving the car, and I could open the hood and see the compressor wasn't responding when I engaged the A/C. When I brought it to Kehoe, they said they would need to check for coolant leaks. This surprised me given the detailed description I had given about the compressor behavior. I agreed, and the next morning they reported a bad leak in the evaporator. No mention of the compressor. I challenged them on this, but they insisted on ordering a new evaporator and installing it. At that point I asked to get the car back and I'd fix it myself. They charged me $110 for "diagnosis". I ordered a compressor on Amazon. With the help of friend with refrigerant gauges, we replaced the compressor. To be fair to Kehoe, I resolved to wait a year before writing a review. I made good on that; the summer in question was 2015. The compressor and its refrigerant I self-installed are still working perfectly, not one, but over 5 1/2 years later. (Took awhile to make good on my promise to myself to update the review, sorry about that). Kehoe has done some good and necessary work for me in the past, and I may well return there again, But as with so many service outfits, they have sucumbed to what appears to an epidemic of misdiagnosis in the technical trades. The same car had a slipped timing belt that I previously documented was misdiagnosed by Kehoe as faulty immobilizer, then by Royal Olds as a bad tank of fuel, and finally--and here's the kicker--"Oh, by the way, we also found....." A job that should have cost $1000 ended up being a $2500 odyssey (as in journey, not Honda model). In my air-conditioning saga, I would have paid for new evaporator (an expensive part that is labor-intensive to replace) only to be told "Oh, we also found your compressor doesn't work." I had an a/c repairman declare my system "shot". He wrote up up an estimate for ten grand. I bought a $130 fan motor and have been in uninterrupted HVAC comfort for two years. I have similar stores about my dishwasher and other non-automotive repairs. I'm not a professional mechanic, appliance repairman, or plumber, but in all three instances I have had wildly wrong diagnoses that anyone with a modicum of mechanical skill could see were wrong. (And in my case, I have a graduate degree in mechanical engineering, so these misdiagnoses are especially insulting when I can see the problem with one "common sense" eye and the other trained in troubleshooting and analysis.) Here's my caveat for anyone engaging a trade professional in New Orleans: trust, but verify. If the diagnosis seems unlikely, get a second opinion or do your own observation and checking. Don't write off your gut feeling when, say, your compressor starts seizing and you're told its the evaporator. The more you know.... read more

These guys took a week to fix my brake lights when the issue was a simple part reachable from the drivers seat. They charge $100 an hour to diagnose. After 7 days, they charged me $450 to replace a $50 part that is simple to get to. They also lied and stated they reset my service light AND my speaker on that the driver's side no longer works. Stay away from these folks. They suck. They also were difficult to reach by phone. I received busy signals and a fax pickup while they had my car. read more

Went in for a tire change after getting a flat. It took 3 days for them to change it and wanted me to get another new tire and alignment because it was dangerous to drive. Really great experience here! This small business is the place to take your car when you're having issues. My car was smoking because of a mistake that another company made when they gave me an oil change and they diagnosed the problem pretty much immediately and we're able to finish fixing my car in a few hours and I was able to pick it up that day. They were friendly and understanding and provided me with work the proper documentation to bring to the other company that messed up in the first place. I just left the garage with my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. I would have expected that a check engine light would have been something that came up in a basic check-up of a car, especially when I told them that this car is being taken on a road trip. When I called to address the issue all they offered was a half hearted shrug and to bring the car back to them. Work that was not approved was done to the car and work that was approved they had to be reminded of. All the while they called seemingly non-stop to get me to come pick up the car, even before work was completed. Communication only seems to be their strong point when THEY need or want something from YOU. Otherwise, they seem almost eager to remain silent and unhelpful. My partner, who recommended this garage and has used them for years has never had similar issues, so maybe they just didn't like me? Overall completely underwhelmed and very upset. read more

When I picked up the car, they told me they thought it was the transmission and did not want to take a chance fixing it because they weren't sure if that was the problem and generally do not work on transmissions. My windshield wipers were not working properly and in New Orleans you can't go a day without it potentially raining. I had originally taken my car to the nissan dealership to get looked at but they wanted to charge me an inspection on top of the potential costs. My friend recommended Kehoe since it is near where I live. Brought it in and they did not charge a fee which was great and were able to figure out what was wrong with my wipers. So i went to get my car serviced for the ac. Originally i went there just to see what was wrong with the ac. Shawn is the mechanic and he claims a diagnostic for a hour was free. Apparently he was "working" on my car for more then 2 hours and that was about $300 for "labor" fee. He told me my car had a leak for the ac (that he didn't fix) also stating my car needed a piece that was missing for the ac. After all the fees my total came up to about $480 for a "diagnostic" basically the only thing he did was add freon and a dye to determine where the leak was coming from. My ac stop working 3weeks after my service which again i paid almost $500 for nothing. I went to another mechanic because my car started acting weird. Apparently shawn or whoever didnt put all parts back on my car. For $500 you would think atleast the leak would've been fixed but nope! I gave mr shawn a call just asking him some questions about the work they did because i was going back to let him fix the issue but he completely had an attitude and was on defense mode claiming he wasn't the reason why my car was acting weird. Once again i paid almost $500 for nothing. He wanted me to pay additional money to fix the leak on top of what I already paid. You'll think he would've showed sympathy but no I basically paid him my money for an undone job. I wouldn't recommend nobody go here they are a rip off. If i can give it no stars I would. I took my car to Kehoe because it was having trouble idling. I wanted to get it to a mechanic before it completely quit running. I dropped it off the day before around 3pm. They had told me ahead of time, they wouldn't be able to look at the car until the next day. They called me the next day as promised and said that the car was running fine. They couldn't get it to reproduce the sputtering I described. Good news. Bad news was I had a radiator leak. I have known about this radiator leak for awhile. I got the estimate, which I thought was a little high, but admittingly, I know very little about cars. I reluctantly gave them the go-ahead. It was not the original reason I brought the car in but whatever, I was tired of riding around with coolant in my jeep. The car was fixed on time and I haven't had a problem with the radiator since. The price was on the high side. I figured it was just uptown New Orleans pricing. My buddy who is a mechanic said Kehoe added a charge of replacing the coolant which he thought was superfluous. He said that the coolant change is automatic anytime you replace a radiator. He implied they tacked on a few services that should be built into any radiator replacement. Not sure, but most opinions agree, the amount I paid for the radiator replacement was high...not outrageous but high. That being said, the people were nice. My car was fixed in a timely fashion. Just glad it wasn't a johnson rod. In a pinch, I might use Kehoe again. More than likely, I'll start the search for another mechanic. read more

I was nervous about bringing my car here because I know nothing about cars other than bring it to a the shop to get the problems fixed. But i had reached a point that I couldn't put it off anymore. I had so many problems: I needed an oil change. Pretty standard. I got it changed for $36.95. My car squealed. At first, it was just when I had the air conditioning on. Then, it just wouldn't stop. I knew it would be the belt, and people warned me that it would be at least $300. They changed it for $83.54. The mechanic did tell me that he didn't change the tension pulley (I think that's what its called.) because it can be expensive and was going to hold. I told them about a consistent thumping noise my car started making after I hit a curb too hard. They investigated, and couldn't hear what I was talking about. Maybe changing my ties was the solution (see next paragraph). They didn't charge me for investigating the problem! The thing I did not expect was that my tires would need to be changed. He said that I only needed the front 2 changed. Not all four. I've never had anyone recommend that two of the four changed. I've always had people tell me to change all 4. He said that since my car was front wheel drive, all the weight was in the front etc, that's why the front needed to be changed only. And the back ones were fine, they had a lot of life in them. I looked up the prices of the tires online, and it was a fair price that they charged me. This is now my go to for any and all car needs. read more

I initially came here as a referral from my boss when I was looking for a place to fix the A/C in my car. I spent all of July (2011) without A/C and just about died from heat exhaustion and there was no way I would survive August in New Orleans without it. Turns out, it was just a loose wire. I found their receptionist to be direct, not super friendly and chatty, all business which came off as competent and efficient so I respected that. Since fixing the A/C, I've also had them change my oil, patch a nail in my tire and replace both AV axels in my car (d*mn potholes and crappy NOLA streets). I like that they check my tire pressure and top off the fluids every time I stop by. I also appreciate that they check out the rest of car (beyond what I had come in for) to make sure everything was in order. I'm a girl who doesn't know much about car maintenance, so it makes me feel better that someone else is monitoring my car safety. I never feel like they're taking advantage of me as an aloof girl and telling me to fix things that don't need to be fixed or overcharging me (my brother is a mechanic in WA so I tell him what I'm being charged so he can tell me if it's on par and so far, it has been). I've only had a positive experience here and will continue to give them my business. read more

I had a flat tire (passenger front side) last July. I took it to the Pep Boys where they told me that it was a nail and they patched it. Couple days later the tire was flat again. So I took it to the Kehoe because of excellent Yelp reviews. I explained the situation. They told me what the Pep Boys told me and they fixed it. I was surprised that they didn't pay attention to what I told them. Honestly, I assumed that the Pep Boys did a bad job with fixing a flat and I hoped that the Kehoe would be better. Couple days later I had to go back to them because the tire was flat again. They said that they needed to take a look at it. Couple hours later I received a phone call from them. They told me that it was the alignment issue and tread wear issue so I had to replace both tires in the front. They gave me a quote of $413.18 for two tires, wheel balance, alignment, valve stems, and disposal fee. I said that I'd like to talk in person first. When I was there, they told me that both tires are wearing off unevenly and it is dangerous to drive like that. We talked about different options how to fix it. But we still went back to the same option. I tried to explain that I could get my tire replaced for free because I had a tire replacement certificate from the Discount Tire (in Dallas). In the end they gave me $20 back that I paid them last time for fixing my tire. So I just took my car and contacted the Discount Tire. The Discount Tire asked me to find a mechanic who can inspect my tire. Then I would have to send images of the inspected tire to them in order to confirm that it is eligible for free replacement. Since the Discount Tire's website referred me to the Tire Kingdom, I went there. At the Tire Kingdom it turned out that the tire could not be fixed because the damage was on the side of the tire. Neither wheel alignment was required. Regarding the uneven tread wear of my front tires, they said that I could replace another front tire once it's time to replace it. And off the topic. Here's my tip. Mark at least one tire each time you have to rotate them. Car shops sometimes skip it. read more

This place is right around the corner from where my boyfriend used to live. I'm always a little wary of neighborhood mechanics because they go 1 of 2 ways: really really nice, honest, fairly priced, quick, and accurate, or Baaaad! Thankfully, Kehoe is everything good! My starter gave out on a Tuesday night. Had the car towed to Kehoe, dropped the keys in the slot, and called Wed morning. They had it ready for me that evening! The boyfriend (who is blissfully clueless when it comes to cars) takes his in for everything like he's just popping into rouses: headlight changes, battery replacement, air conditioning troubles... All the way up to heavy engine maintenance. They're always speedy, they'll always say what needs done and what can wait, and they won't break the bank! read more

Another great Kehoe experience! I had a passenger headlight out, a 5-10 minute job. I went to a couple of auto places before coming to Kehoe. They both had crazy long waits (an hour and a half being the longest), and wanted to charge me $50+ and $90+ respectively. I went to Kehoe in the evening. I was told that they were pushing hard to complete work on the cars they currently had, but that I should come back in the morning and since the headlight is such a quick job, they'd be able to squeeze me in. Sure enough, I come back in the morning and they squeeze me in. Unfortunately, they didn't have the bulb on hand but said they could get it in about an hour. I came back in an hour, the bulb was there, and 5 minutes later (if that) the job was complete. The best part, I was only charged $38, which to me is a very reasonable price to pay. I love this shop. I wish I could interact with their business under circumstances other than something's wrong with my car. Highly recommended. read more

This is the best Auto shop I've been to. Their prices are great but their service and quality of work is better. It is the only shop I trust for my 4Runner. I've also taken my fiancé's Mini Cooper there for oil changes. The shop has a quick turnaround but does tons of business so I'd recommend you call them before dropping off your vehicle if you can. They never do work or buy parts without calling you to get consent; unlike other auto shops that will do work unauthorized and expect you to pay to fix the "pixie-dust unicorn O2 sensor"* that wasn't broken in the first place or that you didn't want to get fixed at the moment. *pixie dust O2 sensor" is purely a hyperbole but you get my point. read more

I was unfortunately out of town for work when my wife visited Kehoe. They insisted on trying to sell her tires that cost 30% more than the exact same tire from other stores locally. They also charged $90 for a simple oil change (which took 4 hours, seriously) and insisted they did her a favor by 'also changing the filter'. I was doomed to an entire day of sitting in a vinyl chair at a Pep Boys, watching daytime television, cringing from the shrieks of small children whose mothers were otherwise preoccupied with their phones. Desperate to escape my dark fate, I canvassed the city in search of an alternative. Okay yeah...bit of a stretch. The boring truth is that I ran a search on Google Maps to see what other choices were available because, seriously, Pep Boys, Tire Kingdom, etc. are (I imagine) quite comparable to the deepest circles of hell. Kehoe Automotive. Never heard of them. Went there anyway. Glad I did. They were super busy, but managed to squeeze me in anyway. The tire was in stock and very reasonably priced, so I dropped the car off, walked a block or two to a coffee shop to have a snack and by the time I was finished, they were calling to let me know my car was ready. The repairman, whose name escapes me, was very friendly. He checked the pressure on all my tires before I left and even put all the crap that I had to pull out of my trunk earlier, back into my trunk! The store manager was very helpful.
