After today, my family will be looking for another place to eat. The food this afternoon just wasn't good (barely warm). and neither were the waitresses attitudes. Every one of us had the GI runs (no it wasn't a virus either) after eating there. We were witnessing how some people are being treated, especially this afternoon...it was very shameful and disgusting to see this happening. We realize that they are closing down for some possible down time and hopefully the food and attitudes will get better. Plus, the area is becoming quite questionable with activity not only in the parking lot, but around the area in general. After this afternoon's experience, it'll be awhile before coming back to our, what was once our favorite place. read more

We needed to do some shopping in Wichita, and I knew that we were going to be going by this place. I had heard about it, so I thought we would give it a try. So glad we did! My wife and I ordered the country steak breakfast, two eggs, potatoes with onions, and a biscuit. I also wanted to order a half biscuit and gravy. Our server suggested that we order it a certain way so that it was cheaper for us. We very much appreciated that. Everything was excellent! In fact, as we shopped through the afternoon I periodically thought, "That was a really good meal." When we are in the area, we will go back to Kelly's. read more

Gosh the place has moved (was 2131 s Broadway). I liked the comfort of the other location. Asked for the skillet and they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about and said which one. I picked chicken fry? probably should've said something different. Oh well. It honestly wasn't too bad. This place had such great service. We had a to-go order and stayed to eat too, and they had our orders out on time and the other meals ready right when we were checking out. Everyone was nice and it made the meal is to focus on the conversations and enjoy good company. read more

This old-school comfort food restaurant is decidedly a new breakfast place. I couldn't tell from which era the building was established, but the food and ambiance was definitely from another time. The service was good, and prices were better than most. My spouse and I both had an omelette of our choice, hash browns and a biscuit. The coffee was fresh, but the cup was small They have lunch specials Mon-Fri, and that will be the choice on our next visit. Ambiance is reminiscent of a more relaxed time in history. There were several "just here to drink coffee, thank you," and people-watching was part of the experience. Give this restaurant a try, and, note, they will be moving to a new location before the end of the year. read more

Kelly's is good old down-home family diner, with friendly, attentive staff that keep the coffee coming and the kitchen staff get the orders turned around really quickly. That's customer service in my book! The ambiance reminds me of the diners we frequented when we were growing up. Not fancy, but clean and an interesting mix of Buffalo Bills memorabilia, old radios, soda bottles, and lots of b&w photos. The food is always great. You get tons of food for the price. The staff and the owners are wonderful! Kelly truly cares about the citizens of Wichita and will often donate turkeys or hams for holidays to those who need it and when she can will even open on holidays for people to enjoy a warm holiday meal for free. Me and my husband were really excited to try this place out , but unfortunately right when we walked in we were stared down and ignored , two ladies in the front saw us and turned around smirking to each other . I of course couldn't stop myself from trying the biscuits and gravy and the gravy was thick and creamy just the way I like it. My boyfriend got the burger and he said it was very tasty and he would order it again. After reading all the reviews and seeing the editorial piece from Dining with Denise from The Eagle, I decided to give this place a go. If you've ever been to the Beacon, then you're familiar with the food already, the kitchen is worked by former Beacon cooks. This is comfort food at its finest. As of today, many have given feedback and recommendations to which, Kelly's has taken into consideration and implemented. They still need to let people know upon entering the restaurant, whether they need to seat themselves or wait to be seated. I hope in the future they are able to expand their business hours into the dinner hours beyond Friday night. If you haven't tried it, you owe yourself that much!! read more

Stopped here on a long road trip with my family. Looked up some places to eat and this one was among the top rated and deservingly so. Friendly and attentive staff and the food is amazing. The best chicken fried steak I have had in a very long time. It's a charming place to eat with family pictures as well as historical ones. The owners definitely take pride in their restaurant and it showed. If I have to travel back through Wichita this is definitely a place I will be going again! We ended up here by happenstance, the place we were going to eat is closed on Sunday and we did not realize that. There were three of us and collectively we ordered the fried chicken with eggs and biscuit, steak and eggs, and a cheeseburger and fries. Nothing but good things to say about the food. To many places can't even cook hashbrowns anymore and these were good. The biscuit was homemade, the burger was fresh, not frozen beef, fries were good, the steak was cooked to order. On my error alone, we decided to try Kelly's based on a great review score. I placed a call prior to our visit to check a waiting time, there was none. My error was not checking how old the reviews are. We decided to not judge a book by its cover. Based on the staff, the pandemic has been hard on this restaurant. We stood in line and not a single staff member acknowledged our presence. My husband and I were wrestling our toddler twins who were giving us a fight for our lives to be seated. Sure, we stuck out like a sore thumb and we are not regulars. With no promise of being seated and more patrons entering we made a quick exit. A side note, rather than smelling delicious food and fresh coffee, the first thing smelled was second hand smoke. How appetizing! Sorry Kelly's Diner...our family doesn't consider you a family oriented place, we suggest removing that from your title. read more

I didn't know what to expect from Kelly's Diner but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. You're not going to find unusual menu items but you will find a delicious version of the homemade food you are hungry for. Biscuits and gravy was fluffy and savory and huge (1/2 order should have been considered) The bacon cheese burger was surprisingly tastey. Bun was soft and perfectly toasted and had 3 strips of crispy bacon. Hamburger steak wasn't as thick as the old Doc's Steakhouse version but it was so flavorful. Service was very good as well! When we travel, we rely on Yelp to help us find our meals. This place was truly a hidden gem! It's an unassuming spot for local regulars who know what great food & service they have. We enjoyed breakfast so much we came back a 2nd day before leaving town. Ask for the cinnamon rolls -huge, homemade & delicious! Skillet potatoes made with onion complement any dish. The pancakes are fluffy & truly taste like cake. The "family" part of the business means they work like a team to give great table service.
