Great little pub with a great beer selection! The staff is very friendly and the place is super clean.

    Kelly and Christina!

I try not to hand out five-star reviews willy-nilly. I mean, four stars means "Yay! I'm a fan." That means the place is pretty dang good. Thus, my initial four-star review of Kelly's after three visits. But, after patronizing the place a few more times, I just have to bump Kelly's up to five stars. I mentioned in my previous review that I've always felt welcomed and comfortable here. The atmosphere of a place springs first and foremost from the owners, especially when the owners are as hands-on with running the place as Kelly and Christina. They're both gracious, warm folks, and the regular patrons reflect that - they're a friendly, middle-of-the-road bunch who seem to gravitate to Kelly's for the pleasant atmosphere, good selection of beer on tap including local choices, a great wine selection (I'm a wine neanderthal, so that opinion is offered by other patrons), and delicious food. Oh yeah, the food. In my previous review, I called it "upscale convenience food." That opinion was based on a pizza another patron shared with me. He told me that it was frozen, and I had trouble believing that. It turns out that my fellow patron was wrong. The food at Kelly's is in fact made from scratch by Christina hours before opening, and then refrigerated. Christina doesn't operate with a set menu, but rotates items in and out. Three nights ago, I had her turkey pesto pizza, and it was so good that I'd now return to Kelly's just for the food, even if their only beer on tap was Pabst Blue Ribbon. I've noticed that unaccompanied women seem to feel comfortable at Kelly's, which is a testament to the regular customer base Kelly and Christina have cultivated. You're not likely to see some lecherous drunk-on-his-ass dude sitting at the bar leering at every woman who walks in the door. (You won't see me doing that either, because I'm quite fond of my wife, and because she's quite proficient with firearms.) I'm a live music fan, and Kelly's Pub & Wine Bar offers live music most Fridays and Saturdays, with the occasional Wednesday open mic night. If you're looking for a cool pub in Redding with a 30 and over crowd, and not a meet-market, you owe it to yourself to pay Kelly and Christina a visit.

Today as I visited the pub I was looking forward to the corn beef pizza that was highly recommended by some locals there in Reading,Ca. The owners ,Christina and Kelly made us travelers feel at home. definitely A great time!! Live Irish music on the weekends.Look for POGH (hope I spelled his name correctly) He is an all around blast . Small finger foods were great!! Absolutely a MUST when im in town

Excellent Black and Tan and live music!

The historic Thompson House is the perfect backdrop for wine tasting. The thing I love most about MFC is that it doesn't feel like a wine bar. It's got wine and a bar... but it feels like you're hanging out at your trendy friend's house. There's a living room area with fireplace, a dining room, a front porch with a cafe table & chairs, and big front lawn with Adirondack chairs in pairs & quads. Truly a choose your own pleasure! We couldn't pass up the perfect late spring afternoon, so I sunk into a deep Adirondack chair and enjoyed my wine tasting al fresco. The neon sign in the front window is the cutest, and just added to the overall vibe. Chuck was so hospitable, and brought me each pour from his post behind the bar inside. He gave insight into each wine, and then disappeared so I could enjoy at my own pace. MFC is very dog friendly, inside too, but I can't think of anywhere I've been in recent memory that was more perfect than wine tasting here on the front lawn with my pup in my lap. The entrance was a bit tough to recognize. In addition, the sign requesting patrons to wait to be seated was absent personnel. The youngster arrived while on the phone taking a reservation. Further delay as she coordinated seating for the large group (showing up on Wednesday, she shared). She mentioned they were slow and said I could select whatever table I liked. I ordered a savory martini and filet mignon, mashed potatoes and French onion soup. Soup arrived with the martini and the two could not have been more oppositely received. The soup exquisite, the martini...nearly undrinkable. But to be fair, I wasn't expecting an overwhelming bell pepper flavor. Black pepper Absolute Vodka was the description. I detest bell peppers. I tried to choke down as much as I could, then decided to give up halfway through. The soup was sublime. A 1/4 inch slice of brown toast under the melted Swiss cheese, the broth and onions delicious. I requested a 6 ounce pour of the Caymus California Cabernet Sauvignon with the steak. It arrived with my meat and potatoes beautifully plated. I'm not sure I wasn't served a sirloin. That filet was the shape of no filet I've ever bought or been served. But it was perfectly cooked and the mashed potatoes were sublime - buttery and flavorful. The wine with less tannins than I anticipated- I really enjoyed that. Service was attentive and both the hostess and my server checked on me. My drive back to Sacramento will be pleasant.

Mac and cheese with bacon, French onion soup and the surf & turf skewers. French onion Soup was DELICIOUS, we added a little salt to the other two dishes and they were really good too. For dinner I ordered the $24 Caesar - it was good and it was big but it was a lot for a basic good tasting Caesar. Husband ordered the Chicken Parm over pasta with a red sauce and he loved it. Portion was huge and he brought half home. For dessert we had the cheesecake and the cream brûlée, both really good. Only downside, if you are dropping almost $200 for dinner, the bathrooms need to be clean and upscale. Mold in the ladies room toilet at the waterline - yuck - and Toilet paper dispenser broken and laying on the floor in the stall. This needs improvement. Overall we were happy with our meal and we will be back.

They were quite busy one night but kept track of everyone and their orders. The Woodside Old Fashioned was one of the better old-fashioneds I've had. Ceasar salad was also very good, freshly prepared with lots of Parmesan shavings. I ordered the New York steak rare and it was cooked exactly as I asked, but the steak itself was full of gristle and large fat pockets, so not a great steak. For the price, it should have been much better and that's the only reason for four stars. The second night I had the soup, a Greek chicken soup with orzo pasta. Delicious. Also had the macaroni and cheese which had a nice crunchy top and generous serving. I had breakfast there two mornings - oatmeal with really good fresh berries the first morning, and the California omelet the second day. They were both very good and I would order either one again. The hoteel gave me coupons for 25% off breakfast so it was a bargain. I would recommend Woodside Grill whether you're staying at Gaia or live in the area.
