Car dealers rarely get a fair shake. Generally the expectation is if you go to a car dealer you'll be met with people trying to get one over on you. I'm going to share with you my experience with Ken ganley Toyota of Akron. I've been very pleased with the 2017 Cherokee I bought for my daughter a few years ago. I set up a search alert on cars.com for a Cherokee 2019 or newer. Up popped a Trailhawk Elite which is basically the regular Cherokee but it's lifted a bit and looks kind of cool and has a hist of safety systems like emergency braking Lane departure etc to help keep a 16-year-old driver safe. I contacted the dealer and met a salesman by the name of Chauncey Clausen... Like the pickle he said. I made arrangements to drive to Akron which is about an hour away to test drive the vehicle and give it a once over. NADA had this vehicle about 6,500 more than it was listed. They did a fair job detailing it and Chauncey was kind and personable. He explained to me the process and we took the car for a test drive and I immediately saw that the service four-wheel drive light was on. It shouldn't have been because of their multi-point inspection they put the cars through before they put them on the lot. The interior was in great shape the exterior was also in great shape for 67,000 mi. I told Chauncey of the service four wheel drive light and we made a deal of my purchase of the car contingent upon investigating and repairing whatever was wrong with the four-wheel drive light. Two days later the Toyota store gave up on trying to fix it and sent it to the Jeep store where they diagnosed it needed a PTU also known as a transfer case. Here is where I'm appreciative of chauncey, and Ken ganley Toyota. I worked very closely with the Jeep store and the part alone was about $3,200, which the dealership unfortunately had to absorb per the deal. They were very clear and upfront with me and some good natured ribbing made me realize that they are definitely in the red on this deal. But they went through it anyway. It took 5 weeks to get the car repaired and fortunately I was not in a hurry and am very patient. I got to see Chauncey again upon delivery and dealing with the f and I guy was also a very quick and painless experience. I was pre-qualified and had a loan from my credit union so I was aware that this deal was probably not going to net them any profit. The purpose of my post is not to rub it in but to explain that there are some folks that will stick by their agreements and follow through. This dealership probably could have pulled the deal and this review would look very different than it does right now. Overall I'm very happy with the car and I do have to do some repairs and upgrades that are commensurate with the wear and tear one would expect. But overall my salesman Chauncey was quite the righteous dude. Honest forthright up front and a genuine nice fella. If Mr ganley does get to read this I hope you will throw Chauncey a couple of bucks as he is a statesman of this dealership. This will be my second car I have purchased from ganley. Overall I really can't think of anything other than to say thanks and it was a pleasure doing business with you. read more

BUYER BEWARE: we are appalled with this dealership and their operations- or at least that of one specific individual. We were in search of a Grand Highlander Limited Hybrid and soon discovered they are in high demand. We couldn't find one in our state that met our specs so expanded our search to Ohio (and beyond). My husband did his due diligence and found a vehicle that met our requirements at this dealership. He communicated with 'Emily' and 'Kennedy' via text regarding the car and had a quote. We were preparing to make the 7 hour drive to purchase it when he heard back from Deepan Sonar, Sales/Lease Consultant who informed him that there was a $10k markup on the car 'due to the high demand'. This is ridiculous and felt fraudulent. Needless to say, my husband ended the call with Deepan and we did not purchase the car from Ganley. We found the exact car (including the cool color!) with minimal dealer add-one at a FANTASTIC dealership in Pennsylvania, completed the deal in under an hour and we're back on the road home. They told me I had to schedule an appointment to test drive a sienna. I made the appointment and showed up, waited almost 30 minutes just for them to tell me they didn't have a sienna on the lot and it would be there sometime in the next week. I'm not upset that the sienna wasn't there, but that I dragged my two young kids out of the house and had to wait for nothing. read more

This could be the most dishonest , fraudulent dealership ive ever encountered in my 30 years of buying cars. Tried to purchase a brand new Camry and was actually given the incorrect car and situation has still not been resolved . They say they thought I knew I was buying a different car with less options yet even their own salesman thought he was selling me a car with the cold weather package and conviennce package as he showed it to me in person and went over those options with me before I signed the paperwork. Why would I suddenly think I was buying a different car then the one I just looked at before we signed the paperwork to buy it ? Their explanation makes no sense. They even apologized for the mistake and offered half the difference but why should I pay for half their mistake ? I paid 30k for a brand new car and expected to get the correct car I agreed to purchase and the car I was shown before I signed to purchase it . They are saying the vin on the car matches the paperwork which I don't deny but that is only because of the mistake they made by showing me and letting me take home a different car which is the car I thought I was buying. When I showed up that day to buy the car the salesman showed it to me and went over everything and how it works and made sure I was happy with it before we signed the paperwork. I liked and signed the paperwork but had no idea the vin on the car he just showed me didn't match the vin on the paperwork. The next day they called and said they wanted the car back that I had just purchased the day before and had been driving all day because the vin didn't match. They picked up the car and replaced with a car I hadn't seen before and wasnt allowed to inspect and this car was or course missing the features we agreed upon and didn't even have floor mats in it. It was basically a Camry with no options on it whatsoever . Is it really my job to check the vin on the car against the vin on the purchase agreement ? I don't know many consumers that do that when they purchase a car it seems like the dealership should be doing that not the customer. Also is it really ok for a dealership to show me a different car before I sign the paperwork and then the next day switch the cars on me ? Doesn't that kinda seem like fraud to you ? Had they shown me the correct car with the correct vin that day I would have never purchased the car because it would have been very obvious the options were missing from the car and this whole nightmare would have been avoided and I wouldn't be out 30k for a car I didn't agree to purchase. Take some accountability for your actions and stop trying to deflect and make excuses for your mistakes. read more

Your Toyota Certified-Pre-Owned Warranty is USELESS at Ganley Toyota. I took my 2017 Rav4 XLE in today because the engine struggles with gear changing. Ganley said it costs $179.99 to check and if they determine it's a covered problem, they go from there. But the customer pays until they make that determination. The service tech said he'd go for a ride with me, for free, to see if it acts up. It's an intermittent problem, so I declined. I asked if I took it elsewhere and got it diagnosed, would they honor the warranty. He said it was up to the dealer to verify, so again, I would have to pay upfront. They didn't tell me this on the phone when I scheduled a service visit. Luckily, I mentioned to the service tech that it's under warranty (when I checked in) or I would have been stuck with a bill. My car broke down. I ran a diagnostic and got a P0101 code, among others. I spoke with Aaron in the service department and gave him the information. I asked if they could pinpoint the issue, and he said they would run extensive diagnostics and could find the problem. I had the vehicle towed there on Saturday. (Ganley does not offer towing) I heard nothing by Wednesday morning, so I called Aaron and got excuses. I advised him this was week 2 in a rental car. He said it would be done asap. Thursday afternoon, I called again and was told the car had the error codes I had told him, and maybe a Nissan dealership could find the problem. He gave me no more information than I had given him, and I was charged nearly $200. I was beyond disappointed and angry. I will never deal with Ganley again. I previously leased a truck from them and took my mother inlaw there to purchase her current vehicle. I infact went to a Nissan dealership and purchased a new 2024 vehicle. Had I been treated right at Ganley, I would have made the purchase with them. read more

I brought my 2020 (certified pre-owned) Tacoma in as it would not start for a week. It has 51k miles and is still under the powertrain warranty. After not being able to start it for 2 days and then suddenly starting, Ken Ganley's mechanics were not able to replicate the issue. Any ideas of what's wrong based on my videos? I do not recommend buying a car here. We bought a 2025 Prius & had to jump it to get it to start. Our salesman told us we could have that checked-it wasn't. It was night, we couldn't see & they rushed us through everything. They didn't give us time to review the paperwork or anything-just said sign everything. We were there until 9 or 9:30 PM on awork night. I was going to Warrensville Heights & definitely wish I would have went there but lesson learned - will tell everyone I know about my experience including the main Toyota survey I always get when I buy one. This 2.5 rating on them should have told me something. The next day my husband noticed the front tires were terrible. He called & they said to 'buy new ones from them'. The higher ups said the same. The salesman (Nick) hung upon my husband. When we told him the other dealership had the same car cheaper-he asked why we didn't go there. That should have been our clue to get up & leave. We traded in a car with a new battery, new windshield back & front wipers, almost new tires, new brakes & rotors we should at least get the same treatment fora newer car. Went here as our old shop sales woman left but in 5 years definitely NOT going back here. Reading the reviews on here-I am not looking forward to owning this vehicle long. I went in on a Saturday around 3:30pm sales person Jessie was very accommodating and responsive to what I had in mind with trading in my mini cooper. When the numbers did not line up for me, the general manager Roberto went out of his way to find me a car that I actually liked more then the original car we were working numbers on. As much as we love the Toyota cars and have always owned one for the past decade, I hate to say that in so many years of buying cars we have for the very first time come across a very rude, arrogant and standoffish sales manager at Ganley Toyota. We had paid a security deposit on a certified Camry and went in to sign the final paperwork. And just as any customer would do, we asked if the dealership could provide some complimentary oil changes as Toyota's complimentary maintenance had expired. The sales associate pointed us to the sales manager to make our request to. As the sales manager Ryan came to talk to us, we patiently and politely explained our request to him and mentioned that our experiences in the past have been very good because all the Toyota dealerships we shopped at have been willing to accommodate us in the spirit of customer delight. Shockingly, instead of a courteous answer, Ryan responded sternly by saying "seems like you are not having a good experience here so I recommend you don't buy a car from us". Really, even if it's the end of the day, is that how you manage a customer relationship?? That was in bad taste coming from the sales manager - the customer is the real boss of a company, agree or not! That was it, feeling extremely humiliated, we rushed away from the dealership after completing the paperwork. Within a few minutes however, as a matter of principles and self-respect, we sent an email canceling the sale. In fact, we had also found out that Ryan's arrogance has been called out in the past as well. Cars have a price but self-esteem is priceless and it was an easy decision to walk away from the deal. The bad experience just makes me wonder if at Ganley Toyota-Akron, is the customer really valued??? Clearly, the arrogance and misbehaved employee are valued, because he seems to be still working there while their customers continue to complain. I was planning a trip to visit my best friend in NYC, and I needed some car servicing done prior to leaving. I had my oil changed and tires rotated at Ganley. Typically I go to Cain Toyota, where I purchased my vehicle, but their service area was booked up until the middle of the following week. When I called Ganley, they got me in right away! It is really great when you can get your car serviced the same day (in the evening, no less!) and have it finished within an hour! Their sales people are also quite friendly! Even though I told them I was not on the market for another new vehicle, they still took the time to show me all the new features of the hybrid Highlander and explain the differences between the Highlander and FourRunner. The service staff and cashier were both friendly and had big smiles on their faces. The bathrooms were clean. I like this Toyota dealer and if I do ever want to purchase another vehicle, I will likely come back here. read more

AVOID KEN GANLEY TOYOTA SERVICE . Unless you enjoy paying literally double what every other place charges, never service your car at Ken Ganley Toyota in Pleasant Hills. I got my windshield replaced there without an estimate because I was due for inspection, anyway...$1,492 out the door. I couldn't even find anywhere else over $850 after the fact. Maintenance Manger was a total jerk. Talked to GM who said he would look into it and help me out only to offer me $100 off service (like I'd go back) or $500 off of my next purchase (like I'd go back). Was told on the phone the car I wanted was coming in and would be at msrp when I arrived to the dealership I was slapped with $5000 OVER. When I said to Jim you told me on the phone it would be around msrp on the phone he denied it and said he never said it basically calling me a liar. He also previously texted my husband when we didn't purchase a car from him at 10 PM and was very rude because he claimed we didn't have "loyalty". Save your time and money and go to summit Toyota. Toyota is great but Ganley was horrible. Wouldn't take an outside loan and then tried to raise our interest rate when we went to pick up the car. Also tire exploded 3 weeks after getting the car and ganley said it was our fault made us pay for a new one. I used to go to Ganley Toyota for oil changes for my Toyota Highlander but last time I went, the wait was so long and the people were so RUDE I SWORE I wouldn't go back. Well, I needed a battery for my key in a hurry, so I ended up going back anyway. I had my husband grab the extra key out of the kitchen drawer and he grabbed the wrong one (I was coming from work and didn't check it) we went and got the battery changed, checked it and realized our error, got the correct key and we had to pay over again even though we realized the error within 15 minutes! They sell $100,000.00 cars but wouldn't give me back my $9.00 for a battery? It was just bad customer service as far as I was concerned, especially since they have a HISTORY of TERRIBLE customer service in my book! Spoke with Jeff over the phone, he told me he would beat the price of the truck I was going to purchase at Sunnyside Toyota. He told me his truck was in perfect condition, and I would not regret making the hour drive to see his vehicle. After driving there, Jeff shows my wife and I the truck, and it is covered on both sides, front to back, in scratches. Interior was less than adequate and smelled funny. Our test drive couldn't end soon enough. We left and went back to Sunnyside Toyota in North Olmsted, where Maria did a great job meeting our needs. Overall, very disappointed in Ganley Toyota, and because of their dishonesty we wasted gas and 2 hours of our lives. Would not go back. read more

My husband took his Highlander there to be serviced. It needed a simple front headlight. When they looked over the car, they suggested that his back brakes needed replaced to the tune of $700 to start. We then called our mechanic, who told us that the cost would be $260. Their recent service manager was replaced by a service manager, Michelle, who had worked their previously. They never should have let her go. Since her return, Ganley service has gone from poor to good. Up until late October 2015 I would have rated their service department very good to excellent. Not now, in mid October I took my new Toyota in for its normal 6 month maintenance. I asked the service advisor to be sure that my engine oil was not over filled which is virtually as bad for an engine as under filling. I also asked that the dealer determine what is causing a loud rattle coming from the rear of my car. Her response to over filling the oil was "I trust my technicians." Her response to my rattle concern was "all Toyota (of this model) rattle." Not the best response regarding a car with less than 2,900 miles on it. Over course, when I checked the oil level upon returning home, it had been over filled by about 3/4 to 1/2 a quart from where the Toyota factory had initially filled it. Since my car uses only 3.9 quarts of oil, that amount of over fill is significant. But I shouldn't have had to write this complaint if the technician or the service advisor had done the job right in the first place. I then took my car to another dealer to determine what could be done about the rattle. The service advisor at the other dealer found that Toyota had issued a bulletin, which he showed me, to all its dealers regarding an issue with rear bumper of my car. The dealer then ordered the factory recommended part needed to fix the issue. When the dealer installed the part, the service advisor and the technician weren't satisfied that the part alone resolved the issue and applied additional clips to the inside of the rear bumper. Guess what? The rattle is gone. As for other areas of Ganley, be warned. Asked their finance manager about the Platinum Toyota Care extended warranty. I was quoted $1,750. The exact same warranty from another Toyota dealer was $1,150. This is not an error on my part. I am comparing exactly the same warranties. I attempted to buy a car from Ganley. My estimated monthly payments for a 40 month loan would have been $70 more a month compared to the dealer that I eventually bought the car from. Today, I received a mailing from Ganley offering me a whopping, additional $250 for trading in my car. That would mean they still would be $1,850 off what I was offered by other dealers. At Ganley, I was treated like a sucker by both the finance department and sales. At the dealer I eventually bought my car from, I was treated like they cared. Want your car serviced? Consider Ganley but check their work. Want to buy an extended Toyota warranty or a car? Find another dealer. If you've had problems, of any kind, with this dealer, call Toyota Customer Care not the dealer. If you call the dealer, you'll get the standard line that they'll look into the problem. Maybe they will or maybe they won't. If you call Toyota, you'll get the same call from the dealer but, due to the rarely used ability to take the franchise from the dealer and the loss of Toyota incentives, you're much more likely to have the issue resolved. If they still don't solve your problem, call Toyota again. Keep documentation of everything. I had to do just that. And, after several months and a run around from the dealer, the problem was fixed. read more

We gave four vehicles serviced here (two Camrys and two Matrixes) and could not be more pleased with our treatment as customers. Randy Huckabone has been our service consultant for decades, and he always give us sound advice, even if that means telling us to get a part fixed somewhere else if the dealership can only replace it. I went in to see a RAV4 limited hybrid. John, the salesman, was very good and helpful. We were just about at a point where I was going to sign an order and put down a deposit. However, when I looked around I saw many salespeople and the floor manager not wearing masks and one salesman take his off as he walked around the floor, I decided to walk out. Most of their sales desks are out in the open and not all are 6 feet apart. This during a requirement that all individuals in all businesses be masked. We ordered a new Camry from Ganley Toyota. After we purchased the car and got home into the garage, we realized Ganley Toyota sold us the wrong car and they refused to take it back. We had to 'Stop Payment' on the $15,000 deposit check to get the correct car. Also, the Finance Manager and Sales Manager (Patrick ?) lied to us about an 'extended warranty' and refused to replace a damaged custom wheel, which was why we purchased the warranty in the first place. Stay as far away from this place as you can. Was just there because they had a Tacoma my wife liked. Sales guy I had was terrible. I should have left then! We still stayed to work out a deal on the Tacoma. So after a bunch of back and forth, they agreed to the deal. Keep in mind I was ready to buy. While they were at the sales desk getting it together, I hear our sales guy call me an asshole and the sales guy and his manager were laughing about it. I could not believe it. I had my wife and 10 year old son with me. The sales guy came back with the deal and I called him out on what I heard. He said, and I quote, "well, you are being an asshole." I got up to leave. Walking out he was continuing to be very rude. Get outside and realize that they still had my keys from the car I was trading in. I go back in to get them and ask for them. Sales guy smirked and pointed across the room. Sales manager then called me up and began to start defending his sales guy. I am completely shocked. Keep in mind I was ready to buy. Worst experience I have ever had anywhere. Not only disrespecting me but using that language in front of my 10 year old. If you go there don't say you have not been warned. I contacted used car salesman Jeff about a 2013 car. He said he pulled the car into the salesroom, wiped it down with a shammy, and it was in perfect condition. You can imagine my surprise when I arrived after a nearly two and a half hour drive and it had a badly repaired crack in the bumper from a fender bender. The car struck the object hard enough to partially tear off the bumper which was sloppily attached using epoxy. When I asked him about it, he did not seem surprised and calmly told me what happened. He made no mention of a strong smell of smoke. I took the car to the mechanic who said the car was mechanically sound. The mechanic said that the only problem, besides normal wear and tear, is the windshield blades streak and need replaced right away. We told this to Jeff who later said he tried them himself and they were fine. He even said they were good enough to last the winter. We believed him and he let us drive for over two hours while it was sleeting and snowing and could barely see through the windshield. We asked for the wiper blades to be replaced and the smell to be addressed and and he scolded us like we were children. He became nasty when we asked about anything. If we didn't need a car right away we would have walked away. Although I cannot comment on the entire dealership, Jeff was dishonest and unpleasant to deal with and I do not recommend going to see him. I would also be cautious with the rest of the dealership because his manager also called me to tell me I would love the condition of the car. He asked me where I was planning to get it inspected and like an idiot, I told him. I hope I don't regret doing that because the mechanic didn't tell me about the bumper and we didn't find it until we drove back to the dealership. Bottom line: I would never return to do business with this dealership and would gladly pay a little more to go somewhere else. read more
