This is a great wide open flat golf course, which has pretty decent maintenance, for great prices. in the summer it costs about $18 to play 18 holes with a cart. The cart girls are beautiful! In the winter, I believe its about $35 for 18 with a cart. Cant beat that! Its a par 72, pretty easy course. If you are a serious golfer, you could kill on this course. Play time is actually pretty slow usually, as it is very crowded, probably because of the good prices. I have been playing here for about 5 years now, and you run into anyone from a grumpy old 0 handicapper, to a 45 yr old dude just gettin hammered with his buddies, and then the semi serious college kids. There are about 4-5 water holes which are very nice, as well as pretty tough to play. The 8th is a mean one. I would definately recommend playing here to anyone looking to enjoy a nice day, because you will be out there for a while. read more

Came here for the driving range as the green fees are still a little steep for AZ summer golf. It was $9 for a large bucket of balls, fairly competitive. I came here in the evening, which was a mistake because the sun pounds on your face until it sets. Now I known to wait until just after sunset to come, but before dark because it is not lit at night. The putting greens were OK and the range was not overcrowded which was a nice change. Also there were not an extensive amount of dviots making it easy to hit the ball. Overall I enjoyed my experience here and will return. read more

I was thinking of 'ol Kenny Mac while I was out at the very similar Encanto golf course today. I don't have much, if anything, to add to the other two reviews. It's an affordable course that is usually worth what they are charging. Flat, easy, playable, but does have several fun holes. The greens are so flat it's almost a joke. A good putter could drop bombs out here all day. This is one of the few courses I've played several times and had more rounds in the 70s than 80s. Good place to practice too. Full range and a bigger than average putting and chipping area. read more

This course is, arguably, in the WORST shape of any course in the area. The moment I arrived I was wondering "what the heck are they thinking?" The parking situation is abysmal, as you have to park off premises and hike in with your bag. Next, the driving range has only dirt to hit from, very limited grass. The course is spotty with grass. The fairways were mainly dirt and soaked where grass does exist. They have horrible bunkers as they are tilled so deep a shot in there is going to be buried. Gotta love Kenny Mac! A fun course in Tempe with kind of a neighborhood feel to it. Reasonable rates, reasonable prices in the clubhouse and the staff is usually pretty cool. Perfect for weekend warriors, for sure. Not the toughest course you'll ever play but it's in good shape and always a good time. The range is also a great place to just stop and hit some balls once in a while. Watch for some of the city of Tempe programs for the kids, too. Awesome deal. Golf course is actually pretty good and reasonably priced. This review is about the restaurant/bar at the clubhouse. They have a deal where you can pay an extra $3.00 with your greens fees and get a drink or appetizer at the restaurant after the round. After we finished golfing I went in with my receipt that says that I had paid the extra $3.00. Apparently that receipt wasn't the required one. The guy to whom I paid my greens fees had given me a second receipt. He didn't say anything about it, so I assumed that that was the slip with our tee time on it which I was supposed to give to the Starter. So when the Starter told us to go to the 1st tee, I must have thrown it out. I had paid for two rounds and the receipt that I had clearly stated that I had paid the $6.00. Even losing the $6.00 isn't that big a deal. It was the attitude and complete lack of any desire to help that I got from the lady in the bar that really irritated me. I went into the clubhouse to ask the guy in there if he could print out another slip and he wasn't able to do it. When I asked if there was a Manager I could talk to, he told me that the lady in the bar WAS the Manager. I let it go, because I didn't feel like dealing with her anymore. Here's a suggestion; if you want to play at Manager, don't be condescending to your customers and MANAGE. She could have easily just taken the $6.00 off. read more

I do not like to leave bad reviews for places but I just experienced the worst round of golf ever. The PACE OF PLAY the last two times I have played this course have been absolutely ridiculous. I've stopped both games early just because PACE OF PLAY. People tee off and hit 2-3 shots even if you're sitting there waiting...No course etiquette at all. Extremely frustrating and waste of money considering i haven't even finished the last two games. Sitting at the tee box every hole for 10 minutes is not enjoyable and ruins the game. Hopefully something changes. I do not plan on coming back anytime soon unfortunately. read more

Encountered a 5 some on a Sat! Yes, a 5 some on very busy course on a Sat. The 5 some started as a 4 but after 2 holes 2 of the 4 separated and the other 2 joined their 3 buddies and became a 5 some when the staff originally told them NO you can't play as a 5 some! We complained to no avail, but probably because we were a group of ladies! I believe if men had complained the 5 some would have been split up or asked to leave the course, but of course that did not happen. I thought this type of blatant discrimination was over with but..............it still does exist in 2020. Will not ever be returning to Ken McDonald for a round of golf! This is a great course for us weekend warriors. The price and service make KM a no brainer choice. Comparable courses that I used to play are Encanto and Ahwatukee Country Club but this place is a step up in regards to maintenance and staff. Not difficult but you have to make good decisions/shots on a handful of holes. If you're a low handicapper this course will be easy. For the rest of us 80s and 90s folks it's perfect. My only dislike is the walk from the boys club parking lot because the club house is behind that. Once you get up there you'll be glad you did. read more

A hacker's paradise. This course is over priced for the area in summer. A person can play a handful of better courses for almost half the price. It is a collection of twosomes and singles many of whom have no respect for golf or knowledge of etiquette. If you want to play a slow round surrounded by non golfers this is the place for you. And the bar staff is pretty slow and easily put in the weeds. read more

This course is a lot of fun to play. As I am just getting into golf, I play this course the most because its close proximity to my house. The course is kept up well enough for me to keep going back. I'd say their prices are fair for what you're getting. The practice putting and chipping greens are great. Their driving range is just okay. They don't regularly put out the yardages of their markers which makes it difficult to guess how far you are hitting a certain club. There was one time I went to play and they were 30 minutes behind. I think that was because a high school tournament was going on. Other than that, they are fairly good at keeping a good pace. read more

Irrespective of the reviews about overbooking, I thought I'd play the course and make my own judgment. When I entered the pro shop, I was checked in by a girl in short shorts and a tank top (extremely unprofessional even for a city course). A young man also behind the counter assured me that it would take no longer than 4-1/2 hours to play and there was a ranger on the course to keep players moving. I ate at the snack shop. The food was good and the staff was extremely nice. Onto the golf course. The course is relatively short and the fairways are in terrible shape with many bare spots. The sand traps were crusty on top and inconsistent. Some had "hardpan" while others were soft. The rough was barren and had obviously been ignored by the landscape/maintenance crew for years. The greens were great. Although slow, they were consistent, rolled well and void of bare spots. We never saw the ranger and after 3 hours and 12 minutes, we completed the front nine. After 2 more hours we walked off the course at the 14th tee. It would have taken over 6 hours to complete the round. I stop into the pro shop and relayed by issues to the young man behind the counter (same one I spoke to before) about the wholly unacceptable slow play. I said it would have taken over 6 hours to play to which he said "ok." I reminded him that he told me there was a ranger on the course,; however, in 14 holes, I never saw one to which he said "ok." He told me there was a small tournament earlier in the day and that could have been a reason for the slow play. We both knew that was BS. I told him I would never play this dogtrack again and he said "ok." Not once did he apologize or make any attempt whatsoever to express concern about the situation. Slow play is the norm today thanks to the pros on TV making people think 5 hour rounds are required and that taking inordinate amounts of time somehow enhances their score. I get that. However, what is really unacceptable is to have salaried and unprofessional kids running the golf shop who couldn't care less whether their patrons had a good experience at their facility. I am a single digit handicap golfer who plays all over the Valley and this is the worst experience I've had. I wouldn't play at the KM golf course again even if it were free. read more

Course is layed out nicely but man the course is not maintained. Went at 4:00pm on a Monday and they said on the phone earlier that day that it was 21 bucks to play. We show up at 4 and nobody was on the course and they informed us that it was now 38 bucks which kind of felt like a bait and switch. We played the course and make sure you know who you are talking to because the guy up front doesn't seem to know the other employees and they don't work with you. Where is the customer service? I hope the management gets to read this so you can work with your staff to provide the best service for fellow golfers. I wouldn't come here again the course isn't worth $40 anyways I mean who starts at 4:00pm anyways and expects to pay full price for to be kind a sub par experience date we golfed was 4/25/2016. read more

Don't waste your time. Management really needs to retrain their workers if they plan to be successful in this golf market. From the start, the phone guy said all the T-times were wide open all day but when we arrived, there was a wait. The guy said the cost was $18.00 each for 18 holes with cart, but when we arrived it was $27.00 each. But worse of all was the cart lady from hell. If it was Ken McDonald's intent to trade good customer service for a good golf experience, then this cart lady totally missed the mark and needs to be fired. She's the most unhappy cart lady patrolling a course in Arizona. Instead of taking the opportunity to sell you a beer or snack, she's more interested in being the golf police to tell you everything you're doing wrong on the course. And at the end of the day, she won't even sell you the beer. If you're in between playing at this course, save your $18 or $27 or whatever they decide to make the prices when you show up and go somewhere else. Anything's better than horrible customer service and a bad golf experience at this golf course. read more

My wife and I played Ken McDonald on 11/6/11, we were paired up with a couple of pleasant and knowledgable older guys. KM overseeded last month and still had 90 degree cart rules, but the conditions were great. We had never played KM, but we appreciate the courses with a little age and mature trees, etc. The trees can come into play if you're spray the ball. The tee boxes, fairways and greens were in great shape and the greens rolled pretty true. The rough had spotty grass in some areas and hard pan, but never anything that wasn't playable. They have a nice lighted driving range, 2 practice greens & 1 large chipping green. There were quite a few walkers, which I'm not used to, but we still finished our round on Sunday in just under 4 and a half hours. The cart girl was a cute little blonde that couldn't have been nicer-- the $3 beers were a nice change too. For what it costs, KM is a very good deal and fun to play. We are already planning our return to KM. read more
