I am so disappointed I was hoping Kendall would be better than Lithia but they are not. I bought a 2017 Subaru Forester in late March early April (can't remember date right now) 2018. It is a certified vehicle and the air conditioning doesn't work. I took it in once and the service guy said it was reading the outside temperature and that's why it wasn't getting cold. Well that wasn't true it is just blowing the ambient temperature. I took it back this morning and Brandon was incredibly rude and then started laughing at me when I was upset. He kept saying that he couldn't speak to what it means to buy a certified used car. He also kept ignoring my questions. They gave me a filthy loaner car to drive, in which I couldn't tell if there was any damage. The sales department was great the service department however is awful!!!! read more

We had a great experience when we purchased our car at Kendall Subaru in Eugene. The salesman wasn't too pushy and we received a good deal for a great car. However, the car has had a minor issue that the Service Department is handling poorly. We have brought it in 5 times now and they are having trouble fixing the issue. The fact that they're struggling to identify the exact problem isn't my annoyance, that happens and I can understand that. However, I have had a difficult time scheduling appointments and getting them to return my phone calls. I have to take the initiative to keep calling for a follow up and I receive poor customer service when I finally get in touch with a service representative. My husband has left a voicemail for the service manager and not received a return call. I don't have much confidence in the competence nor professionalism of their service employees. They don't appreciate the fact that my husband and I both work full time and that we are taking time away from work to get the car in and to schedule appointments. From the looks of other reviews, it seems my experience is not unique. They're a great place to purchase a car but not a great place to get the car serviced. read more

I recently had my 2012 Outback recall notices taken care of. I live 1-1/2 hours away. I had a 10:45 appointment and was there 10 minutes early. It was supposed to take 3 hours. I had someone follow me down because they could not guarantee me a loner vehicle to go get lunch. We came back at 1:00 PM and my car was still where I parked it. They finally took my car in at 3:00 PM and it was done at 4:00 PM. An all day event in their crowded waiting room. Why did I bother to make an appointment several weeks in advance? read more

The actual customer service we received was great, but the car is not. Our family got rid of our 2007 outback for a 2015 outback hoping that we would have a more reliable car that doesn't have issues. Well we were wrong. We bought our certified pre owned Subaru in January and less than a month later, before we even made our first payment, the car broke down on the side of the road because it overheated and the head gaskets blew. Mind you there were not even 40k miles on the car. Now not even two years later the battery had to be replaced because of how old it was. The tailgate regularly will get stuck. Sometimes certain windows won't roll down. And did I mention that we paid waaayyyy too much for this car that we thought would make our life easier. We ended up returning the over priced warrantee that we purchased and my husband had tried contacting someone for a month before anyone got back to him. So the people are great. I was on a camping road trip (from San Francisco) with my 2015 Forester and suddenly my automatic trunk stopped opening. You can imagine the panic that i felt knowing all of my camping equipment is neatly stacked facing the trunk for easy access! I was staying overnight in Eugene and quickly called Kendall Subaru. Paul Anderson came out to assist me graciously. Within 2 minutes he had my trunk open and explained how it works with the safety features, and how to manually open it next time (just in case). He taught me more than my salesperson did when i bought it, and i'm extremely grateful! While i was there he helped another woman with her outback very quickly. Over the years I have benefited by efforts of people on forums and review sites so I wanted to take a few minutes and tell you about a good experience I had buying my Subaru, here in Oregon. Let me begin, if I had to send my daughter or niece or wife or son out alone into the lions den of buying a new car, I would feel safe sending them to Kendall Subaru in Eugene, Oregon based on how my wife and I were treated from start to finish by Bryan Dowd and Tony Costanzo. I am no push over nor easily impressed, so I recommend you look him up for one major reason, we should reward the people and dealerships who are doing things right. Who are serving us well. I used the Costco Pricing program and found it was fair and solid. Let me quickly add, and this is important, when the Costco price went up a couple days after my quote was given, but before my acceptance, due to changes in the local market, Tony Costanzo honored the lower price he originally gave me. Now that is integrity. I am a huge Costco fan and now I am a Kendall Subaru fan too. Anyway, I have bought five new Subarus over the past 25 years, including the one I just bought. By far the most pleasant and easiest was from Kendal Subaru. I did it over the phone and the Internet and then gladly drove the 300 mile round trip to Eugene. What was most impressive was the extra time and care Bryan Dowd took with us through out the process. He explained and demonstrated the cars features and benefits, paired our I phones, helped us with activating the Sirius Radio and general orientation to the cars features. Let me add this car was already sold. We were just needed to finish up some paperwork and drive it home. It feels good to be well cared for. It should not go unnoticed and, if I may say again, it should not go unrewarded. You see, the choice is always ours. My firm conviction is we need to reward those businesses and salespeople that are doing good in the world. It is like watering and fertilizing a plant it will grow and spread and be good for the world in, at least a small way. I tried to make an appointment to have a passenger-side airbag replaced per recall. After negotiating a Time was set, then she said it would 3-4 hours! Ok, I guess. The driver brought me home set a time to pick me up, let's make it a half hour after the time...To be on the safe side. Ok. She was on time, friendly, and helpful. Went up to ask about car, and desk person told me it would be "a while." I waited two hours before I got my car back. No excuses, it just "takes that long." I asked for the "Safety Report" that was supposed to be given, she took my email address...nothing. Called Customer Support, Christine.. she would get right on it...3 days... Called and left messages for Kara ... no response. That's why I never go to Dealerships, they think it's their car. Never happen at Sun Auto or Wayne's Garage. read more

My original salesman, Matt Logue and the Service Consultant, Erik Zimmerman were both extremely helpful making sure everything was taken care of for my first visit back to the dealership. Even Juan (sorry Juan, I didn't catch your last name) gave me great service and ensured my car was shiny and beautiful again - in the middle of an Oregon rain shower! If you live in the Eugene area, take the drive to portland for your Subaru needs. This place is full of stories and lies. I brought my car in for warranty work and it took them a month and half to get to it, and then I get a call saying a tire smashed my car door. I went to the dealership and asked what happened and how and I got 4 different stories. It caused $1,500 in damage that they were not willing to pay for, and then on top of that gave me a bill for $1,400 which was supposed to be under warranty and they also drained my battery so I had to buy a new one. I contacted Subaru of america and they gave me a $300 credit which helped a little bit. I got my car fixed from the body shop and took it right back to Subaru because they never fixed my car. I got it back once again and same thing, less than a mile and the same issues were there 3 times in a row. The 4th time I got it, I picked it up on my way to work and then I get to work and it doesn't start. Luckily they sent someone out to come and get it and fix it for the last time. It took them another 6 months of having it for a week up to 3 weeks at a time and finally they got it. read more

Addendum: The care was finally paid off on July 21st. The bill I received from Kendall for the difference in the pay off amount from date of purchase to date of pay off, was waived. Thank you to Jared for taking care of this for me. I purchased a vehicle here on June 29, 2017. I originally went in to look at the car on June 27th. Everything went well at first, until I said I had my own financing arranged through my credit union, who they have no affiliation with. I traded my vehicle in on the new car. I never received calls, never received a call letting me know the check had arrived from the finance company, which would allow me to pick up the new car. I was told that my credit would not be run, why would it since I had my own financing? Checked my credit report and saw that there were 3 hard inquiries which resulted in a 14 pt drop in my credit score. A warranty and some key replacement service were added to the loan, which I repeatedly said I was not interested in. It was removed and I had to get a new purchase order to my lender. When I picked up the car, my salesman was nowhere in sight. The finance person had me sign one final form and then handed the key to someone else, telling him to answer any questions I have, and walked off. I took the key at that point and said I would figure everything out on my own. At his point, I just wanted to leave. The very next day, I decided to put the top down on the car. Big mistake. The back passenger side window would not go up completely, resulting in a 1 inch gap. Upon inspection, Kendall had attempted to apply a lubricant to the mechanism of the window. Only problem is that they used a sticky type of lubricant which completely gummed up the window and moving parts within the window. Luckily I took it to my local Ford dealer who repaired it for free. Here it is 2 weeks later. I just received notification that I have a late payment on the car I traded in. Kendall Subaru has not even bothered to pay off my trade yet. My finance company had a check sent overnight and they're still waiting for theirs. The entire experience has been horrible. I have called several times today to ask about the payoff and have yet to receive a reply. I have bought every car I have ever owned over the last 10 years, through Kendall dealerships and have never experienced such unprofessional service as I have at Kendall Subaru. It's pretty safe to say that out of the 12 or so cars I have purchased in my lifetime, this was the single worst experience. I do not recommend this particular dealer to anyone. read more

Great experience until dealing with new service department. Then it all crumbled. Vehicle Background: I purchased my Legacy in 2014 and it now has 17,000 miles on it. It currently is making a whistling noise whenever the climate control is turned on and the dealership so far, has been unable to determine what the problem is. Service Department Experience: When we first took in the vehicle for this issue they said they could not reproduce the problem and that maybe it would go away on its own. We accepted that and took it home. 5 or so months later I could not take it anymore and brought it back to the dealership service department. The new service manager "Jerry" called me and asked if he could have permission to test drive it. I explained I already told them that it only presented after driving it for 4 or 5 minutes and only when the climate control was on and that I had expected them to test drive it. He called back 15 minutes later and said he identified the sound I described to him and that he thought it was the serpentine belt. They replaced the belt and the noise continued. The next time I brought it in he said that there was an engineer that suggested increasing the freon in the car. The manager said they did that and the sound went away. During a later conversation with the service manager, he said, "The engineer nor I ever heard the sound" which made me wonder how they could claim that the sound went away after putting freon in if they never heard it in the first place. I took the car home and the noise still continued. I called up the service manager and I could tell he was clearly frustrated and did not want to deal with this issue any longer. He told me the only way he could do anything was if I brought the car in and had him listen to the sound while in the car with him. So I agreed and took it in again. When I got there, he got into the car, acknowledged the sound and then pushed the A/C button. I then pushed the off button and he exclaimed, "Oh, you are turning off the whole climate control system". He then went on to explain that the noise was completely normal and that every Subaru with 17,000 miles or more makes that noise and that it is just the air pressure in the vents. I was dumbfounded. What he was saying did not make any sense to me so I started asking more questions. The more questions I asked the more ridiculous his answers seemed to become. When I asked him why he identified the sound as a problem before but now he said it was normal he claimed, "I heard a different sound before". But I know for sure that there were no other abnormal sounds coming from my vehicle except the one I was complaining about. When I asked him why I have never ever heard that sound in any other vehicle with many more miles than 17,000, he claimed that I could not compare my Subaru to any other vehicles. When I asked him if he could show me any other Subaru that made the same noise, he claimed he did not have any with that many miles, not even their taxi's. When I asked him why it would happen all of a sudden, he claimed that there are tons of parts and they get dirty and shed and such and that over time, they just make that noise. When I asked him if he was correct that the noise is just from air pressure in the vents, that it would make sense the noise was still there if the car was off and the climate control was on, he claimed, and I quote, "logic would seem to dictate so, but not necessarily because when the car is on the pressure might be higher" I then asked that if a lower pressure was the cause for the noise going away why wouldn't increasing fan speed cause the noise to come back? At this point he was pretty much done with my stupid questions and said that it was a complex system that I did not understand. He then told me that only thing left he could do was change the blower and if that did not fix the problem that there was nothing he could do. He also told me if he called engineers out to try to solve the problem they would tell me to turn up the radio or drive with the windows down. He also stated (in my interpretation, threatened) that if I had them try to find the problem after replacing the blower that they would have to take out the dash and that if that happened I would start hearing all kinds of rattling and shaking and noises. Where I Am Now: I am not a mechanic or even someone who is very knowledgeable about cars, so I cannot really argue with the service manager, I can only try to ask questions to understand the problem. I am praying that changing the blower will solve the issue. I am terrified if it does not solve the issue that this guy will be even more upset and sabotage something with the vehicle or at the very least, hate me for life. Just bought a 2019 Outback from them. Entered the dealership at 530pm, exited at 930pm with everything taken care of, including test driving three different cars. Everyone was very mellow and experience was quite comfortable. I felt very happy with the trade-in value and price I paid. Even though they stayed late to finish the deal, my salesperson (John) stuck around with me for quite a while to show me all the features. Oh: I really liked that their quote in our initial negotiation involved all the taxes and fees I would pay as part of the bottom line. I have had the experience where that information is only brought up at the very end. Overall, I just can't find anything to gripe about with my buying experience. read more

Posting on behalf of my Father as I was a witness and helped pay for the Additional repair costs.- I was helping my son . His car needed repairs before a long trip he had to make. I dropped the car off and was told by Josh McClary it would be ready in one week. After one week I called to check on the status but had to leave a voicemail. The next day I called again and had to leave another voicemail. The next day I called for a third time and had to leave another voicemail . Finally on the fifth day after I started calling , Josh McClary called me back to tell me they hadn't even started our car yet !!! Twelve days and nothing done !!!!! At that point he apologized and promised me the car in five days. After five days I called and was told it would be three more days. Finally Josh McClary called and said it was ready . When I arrived to pick it up Josh McClary had gone home and left it to his co-worker to tell me the price was $1,500 more than I was quoted. Not only that but Kendall Subaru told me they would give a 10% military discount . Apparently Kendall Subaru does not appreciate the freedoms it receives as a result of the sacrifices made by the personnel in the United States of America's Military because they reneged on that discount and for that reason alone I will never give them business again !!!! I did my own inspection on the car and within 30 seconds I found a problem the mechanic overlooked. We left the car there and made the 70 mile trip back home . The next day they called and said it was ready again so we went back. Within 2 minutes after starting the motor another problem arose. We left the car and made the 70 mile trip home again . The next day they called and said the car was ready again . This time we picked it up hopeful it was finally ready . On the 70 mile trip home it gave nothing but trouble so we took it back the next morning. At that point they wanted another $1,800 to fix it so we fired them . 3 weeks and $5,200 dollars later the car sits in my driveway broken and I gave my extra car to my son for his trip . I am an owner of a 2016 Subaru Outback I purchased here. I started having some issues with the passenger front window. From either the driver's or passenger's window switch, the window would raise up and then lower to the halfway position when attempting to raise the window all the way up. I had to "sneak up" on the raise attempt by raising it in small increments. Only then would the window stay up. Then, I suddenly had no control whatsoever of the passenger window from the driver's side. I called two Subaru dealerships, Medford and this one regarding the issue. I was told by both dealerships to bring the car in, and for $100.00+ per hour, they would troubleshoot the problem. My 3 yr./ 36000 mile warranty was expired so I would have to pay for the repair. I live 2 hours from Eugene and 3 hours from Medford so it would've been time and fuel expense on top of the repair bill. I decided to check out a Subaru Outback discussion forum to see if anyone else had this problem. Lo and behold other people had the same issue and someone even offered a suggestion that may fix the problem. I followed the advice of the forum member and within 3 seconds, the problem was fixed simply by lifting up on the window switch until after the window raised up and held the switch in place for a few seconds until I heard a "click" which was, apparently a relay being reset. How come the service department contact people at Subaru aren't aware of something as simple as this "fix"? I would've spent all that time driving there and then incurring troubleshooting charges (at least). I saved myself a lot of trouble just by doing my own research online first! I am DISAPPOINTED with both Subaru dealership's service dept. not being more insightful into this issue. read more

I recently purchased a 2008 Subaru Outback from Kendall Subaru in Eugene. I came over from Bend because prices were better and i was immediately happy with my decision. Tim Faulkner was patient dealing with me over the phone while i tried to give him details on my trade in vehicle. When i got there Tim and the sales staff were very friendly and helpful with my purchase. they did employ the usual price haggling tactics but in the end i got the price i was looking for. The car is driving great though i did notice when i got home that there were a couple retouched scratches on the hood that were not pointed out. You could call me a 'loyal' Kendall customer, as I've bought 2 cars from the group in the past two years, but to be completely honest, Kendall just has the best selection and is basically the only major dealership in the area. To earn a 5 star rating, I would have needed to receive 2/2 hassle free buying experiences. However, this is not the case. With both purchases, Kendall has called me a week after driving off with the car to renegotiate higher APR rates and finance plans. According to many dealership reviews, this is a fairly more common practice, and feels a bit like a bait and switch. Also, my first purchase of a used car which has the '100 point inspection' broke down before I made my first payment. Not a lemon, as it was just a $500 repair, but it was a struggle getting Kendall to admit that a stick shift dismount was covered by a "power train" warranty. Overall, Kendall is exactly what you'd expect from a major dealership. Good selection, friendly enough salespeople, but ultimately just a company with employees pushing you to get a decent commission check. As with every dealership, make sure you know what you're willing to pay, don't start by discussing payments, be wary of what you're signing, and be firm. This review concerns the Service Department. I purchased a new 2017 Outback from the Eugene Dealership and needed a pet gate installed. First, they did not contact me when the gate was actually in stock so that I could schedule installation. I needed to contact them, despite the fact the dealership had indicated they would contact me. Then, when I needed to reschedule the installation appointment due to work conflicts, they were not able to give me another appointment time for a month. They were not willing to work with my schedule, which is a reasonable one that has flexibility some days of the week and not others. They were only interested in their schedule. In comparison to the local VW dealer's service department, which is the one I have recently left, Kendall does not compare favorably: much less responsive, polite, customer friendly and efficient. read more

This dealership is one of "those" dealerships. What I mean by that is that they tell you they find problems that aren't really there. For example, I brought in my Subaru for a recall replacement. While there they presented me with an inspection report in which they claimed my transmission fluid was a little low. The recommended course of action was to have the transmission flushed for $200. Being rather handy with car repair, I declined so I could do the work myself. Upon my own inspection later in the day, I found the transmission fluid level was perfectly full, not down as they stated. I no longer trust this dealership and will be taking my business to Salem or Portland when I require service on my Subaru. read more

There was a price error on the car we came to see after having had emails back and forth we came to see the car for the price in the written email. When we met with Jeremy he wouldn't budge and then handed us off to Kassidy, but we are lucky he did. Kassidy went to the extreme to help us. He answered all our questions and after the normal car buying annoyances, waiting and waiting. We left with our car. So far no complaints and very grateful that they honored their original price. Another amazing experience! I returned to Kendall in search of a quality pre-owned car for my mother in law. The recent frigid temperatures were no match for her front wheel drive Chevy Malibu. Putting chains on it was not a viable option and frankly she's a senior citizen. Would you want your older parents chaining up a vehicle? So she challenged me to find her an AWD car, in good shape, and at a reasonable price. I had just bought a KIA Soul from Kendall Subaru (here's the shout out for Cody Sutherland) and the wife and I couldn't have been more pleased. A few minutes of searching on the computer and BINGO!. Kendall Toyota had a Venza with all the bells and whistles my mom was looking for. She saw the car and instantly feel in love with it.Now came the easy part, negotiating! I dealt with Cody again and even though his primary store was the Subaru location he was willing and able to work with me on the deal. If it weren't for the iced over roads we would have left Grants Pass ASAP to close the deal however we had to wait several days because of the previously mentioned inclement weather to thaw the roads. Just like my previous experience with the KIA, the entire process was seamless. Cody had the document's ready to sign, had the trade in assessed and into the finance department with Shawn (Semper Fi, Thank You for your service and welcome home from a fellow Veteran) all within an hour! These gentleman take the car buying experience to the next level. Do your research, go in with realistic expectations (i.e. don't low-ball them and insult them) and you'll come away with a great car or at the least a good cup of coffee and great experience, we did! I would highly recommend the Kendall auto group for all your car purchasing needs. As soon as I purchased my vehicle I took it to Kendall Subaru to have it inspected and to have a recall service performed. They assured me there were only a few minor things that needed to be taken care of and the car was safe to drive. Safety was my primary concern considering I only bought the vehicle to cart around my six-week old. Their recommended action plan and the service consultant assured me that all my fluids were checked and that there were no leaks anywhere on the vehicle. I was so impressed with their professionalism I later called them back to schedule the recommended services, despite their exorbitant prices. After driving the car for two days a noise started coming from the transmission. I pulled over and found the transmission oil to be completely dry. I took the car back to them and they quoted me almost $2000 to replace it with a used transmission. They said I had no recourse because I didn't buy the car from them. Their website promises that their "experts will keep your vehicle running in top form." I assure you these promises are empty. Lip service at best. Even the service consultant on the second visit commented about the incompetence of the the mechanic that worked on my car. The question you have to ask yourself is would you trust them with your vehicle after they overlooked something as simple as a transmission oil check? I surely wouldn't trust them with a brake job. I wasted an entire week now trying to get them to see things from a customer's perspective. That we take them at their word as "professionals". That when they state that the vehicle passed their thorough inspection, they actually inspected the car. Their only reply was that there must have been something wrong with the transmission when I bought the car. I'm not arguing that. Very well could have been. But, if their mechanics are so adept at preventative maintenance, why was the transmission given a clean bill of health only to fail two days later? Save yourself the time and expense and have your vehicle serviced somewhere else. They say that love makes Subaru a Subaru. Well my experience with Kendall Subaru was more like a weekend fling that made all the promises of making me a member of the family and then emptied my wallet on her way out the door. I love these guys! I have taken in my car for repairs three times now (it's an old car - repairs were needed when I bought it used). Every time I go on there they exceed expectations. They do what they say they are going to do (and usually more) at the price they quoted me. Loaner cars are available, customer service is exceptional - they are awesome! read more

Trustworthy & Very Competent! I had a great experience with Tony (general manager) and crew at Kendall. My 08 Tribeca engine died 3 hours into a 2-week family vacation. Was towed to Kendall. I was car-less at the beginning of my kids' school year. Tony offered me a loaner car and even a driver to deliver it to me 103 miles away in Portland! Tony took a lot of time with me on the phone to hammer out a deal. When I decided to lease a new Outback (thank you, Subaru of America for "Goodwill Assistance"), Tony found the EXACT car I wanted and got it to Kendall, even though there were only 2 in Oregon. Talking with Kendall folks there yesterday as I finalized the lease, I learned that Kendall treats its employees well. This goodwill shows in how Kendall folks engage with customers. I can not say enough great about the auto repair staff at Kendall Subaru. John and Greg were so very personable and helpful. Dealing with a broken car is never fun, but these guys explained everything thoroughly and helped get me through the situation as painlessly as possible.
