My whole reason for the trip to Pittsburgh was for Kennywood. I almost thought it wasn't going to happen because the tickets I got were for a certain date and that date was COLD... (24 degrees, felt like 10 according to weather.com, snowing and very windy) Luckily, they opened; actually a lot of the staff was very surprised they opened but it worked out for me because this was the only date I could make it here and I've been wanting to visit this place since I was a kid. They did give free hot chocolate to the first 500 people which we got and it was GOOD hot chocolate - not watered down. I got the smores and my husband got the Peppermint. Unfortunately because it was so cold, a lot of the rides were closed. I really wanted to go on Jack Rabbit but they can't operate it below 40 degrees. This was unfortunate, but some rides were open and I did get to experience Noah's Ark which was my other must. This was such a fun attraction, and I wish more parks had this. The potato patch fries were delicious as well. I love seeing homemade food. The tickets were only $20 or so, plus free parking which was a great deal - even with half the park closed. The lights were absolutely beautiful. I got to meet Sam, Rudolph and Bumble. I was wearing a Bumble dress and he LOVED it. That honestly made me day! I even bought a photo with myself, my husband and Bumble (which I never do!) but this was such as good memory. I could not pass up. I would love to come back here in the summer or fall to experience more of the day, but the holiday event was fun and great to experience as well. I would recommend and would be back!

It's been a decade, since visiting Kennywood and decided since I was only an hour away from Pittsburgh to visit. The Fall Fest atmosphere was felt all throughout the park, on a nice warm fall day, two weeks ago on October 11. The nostalgia was there for me for a bunch of rides, The Turtle, The Whip Potato Smash., Train, The Kangaroo....as I'm a huge fan of classic older rides. The park was spotless and clean. Sadly, I do agree with other Yelpers: 1. I'm not sure why the new owners of Kemnywood, felt the need for fast pass, and then to charge extra for it?? 2. There should have been a reduce parking rate, and not just the flat $20, and only on credit card. I arrived at 3pm and left close to 7pm. I understand a flat rate for the day, but perhaps maybe look into reduce parking rates , after a certain time frame. 3. The food prices were a bit steep in my opinion. Not having the option to pay cash was a huge drawback. Overall, I enjoyed my time and day, may or may not return. Phantom Fall Fest , and special effects were fantastic in my opinion.

Kennywood is an amusement park that was founded in 1898 and is now a National Historic Landmark. The park contains dozens of rides and attractions (e.g., bumper cars, swings, roller coasters, Noah's Ark, merry-go-round, and paddle boats), dozens of casual restaurants, gift shops, holiday events, and more for adults and children. When I was a child, I visited Kennywood to ride the nostalgic and modern rides. Now that I am older, I visit the park just for Halloween and Christmas events, a work party for my husband's employer, etcetera. During our most recent visit, my husband and I walked around the park during the Halloween season. We had to pay for admission tickets ($43 each) and for parking ($20). Many rides were open, and we enjoyed looking at the decorations. We purchased foods and drinks from several restaurants. Some employees did not even say hello to us, while other employees performed their jobs better. We liked the bacon-cheese fries, "bloody" strawberry funnel-cake fingers, bacon on a stick, apple-cider-donut fudge, peanut-butter-chocolate ghost, and phantom elixir drink, but we did NOT like the brisket sliders. Please note that some alcoholic beverages were not available until after 6 PM. Some of the prices were high, such as $5 for a bottled water.

Forget the rides -- I came for the funnel cakes and potato patch fries. Both were hot, fresh, and worth the wait.

Open since 1898, Kennywood Park is a beautiful family amusement park! All ages will enjoy the park. The grounds are mostly flat and easy to walk. There also lots of shady from the trees. The owners of Dollywood recently bought Kennywood, and the park is looking good. It certainly doesn't show its age. Kennywood is known for its wide selection of rides and games. They have the historic Turtle, Jack Rabbit, Racer Thunderbolt, train, bumper cars, carousel, and Whip alongside the steel coasters and other newer thrill rides. The park also has increased and improved its food choices. They is free parking not far from the park entrance. They also offer $20 paid parking for those who want spots closer to the entrance. Handicap parking is free if you have the placard. You will leave Kennywood exhausted from a full day of fun! Enjoy!

I honestly have not heard from much about Kennywood but it was on my Pittsburgh bucket list since I'm somewhat of a theme park enthusiast. My first impression was the park was spotless. I didn't see a single piece of trash on the ground the entire day. They have trash cans within at least 15 feet of each other. There is so much to do it's unreal. They have a pub to get a drink, thrill rides and the have festivals through out the year. We were only planning a few hours at Kennywood but managed to stay all day. The rides are fantastic. There are so many rollercoasters for the adrenaline seekers and tame rides. You have to ride the Jack Rabbit because the ride is over 100 years old. The Phantom's Revenge was my favorite. The food was fantastic. We were surprised when they had their Bites and Pints festival but we made sure we tried it out. They had 8 booths filled with food and drinks from different countries. The highlight was the Caprese sandwich from Italy and the Pierogies from Poland. You also have to get the Potato Patch fries. They are the iconic food at Kennywood. We had ours with cheese and bacon and loved it. Kennywood is a fantastic park that we would love to visit again. You know it's a good park when your husband who is not a fan of theme parks had the best time.

Went for light up night and had a great time. Half of the park was closed off but there was still plenty to do and see. I've been going here my entire life and its definitely not in its prime. We go for potato patch, Noah's ark, and the exterminator (not open for light up night).

We went and saw the holidays lights. I got my tickets on sale for 20$ which was worth it. They ended up shutting down the rides early and that was disappointing. They are supposed to shut down if it gets lower than 40 degrees, but it was still 45 degrees out. They had a large food and dessert selection. Potato patch seems like they changed the cheese, I liked the old stuff way better. There weren't barely any lines for anything. It was a nice night out, the lights were very beautiful.

As one of the only big roller coaster parks in the Pittsburgh area, it hits everything it needs to do. The rides are fast and very fun. The wait times do fluctuate based on the day/season but most rides are worth the wait. Last time, I went for the holiday lights and it feels like this park is improving every time

Just visited for the opening of Holiday Lights for the season. Really gets you in the Christmas spirit. There are a few rides open, games and yummy winter treats to enjoy and plenty of lights!

Oh the nostalgia here. Very disappointed the log jammer is no longer a ride. Kiddie land has had a nice upgrade since my childhood. Disappointing that Kennywood has gone the way of the Fast pass-we waited so long on the few rides we made it on because of the priority to Fast pass. As a local amusement park that's sad to me. We rode no roller coasters because lines were 1 hour and my six year old can't do that, especially when it was in the 90s that day. Three stars because of fond memories from 30+ years ago but as an adult with young children visiting-1.5 stars.

today i took my son to do something nostalgic while we are in town visiting family and we only got to go on one ride before being sickened by the food. i had opened one ranch that i dipped into twice before i noticed the taste was funny despite the brand being one of my favorites. i assumed it was just bad in that form and moved on to my burger. i could only eat half (was so hungry) because it was just unappetizing: cold dry and old meat (i actually put salt and pepper on a cooked burger), unmelted american cheese, and cold fries. my child saw his burger and turned away in disgust, but forced down one bite. his repulsion gave me the mind to check the expiration on the ranch, which to my surprise was EXPIRED IN NOVEMBER. he went on to check all the ranch in their basket and pulled away all the expired ones (you are absolutely welcome). we immediately were sick to our stomachs.... at a theme park... where you ride rollercoasters and are meant to have fun. puking really wasn't part of the agenda and it physically ruined our entire day. Kennywood themselves has done nothing to justify this situation in entirety. i purchased from a "third party" (who knew?) and although the money funnels directly to KENNYWOOD itself, they simply have no way of reconciling me... other than offering me to come back. laughable. if i can give them zero stars, that's happening.

I recently visited Kennywood after not going for about 10 years. I always feel a wave of nostalgia when I walk through that tunnel into the park. I had a great time during this visit. The park itself was clean and maintained; same with the restrooms. It's a smaller amusement park, but I feel like there's a good mix of roller coasters, "calmer" rides, and rides for kids. In addition, I think there's a decent selection of games and food. Although if you're not getting potato patch fries, then what are you even doing? (IYKYK). Overall, I had a great experience and can't wait to visit again soon!

I've never been there where we needed all that space (I can't imagine how long that wait would be). the entrance has automatic gates that open and close when the train is ready to be boarded. Idlewild's Rollo Coaster may seem an anachronism in today's kinetic, adrenelane-charged, high tech world of gigacoasters and monster "woodies" like Cedar Point's Mean Streak and Great America's American Eagle, each park every year vying for the biggest, fastest, and baddest. Believe me, I'm the Roller Coaster Queen and I love coasters like that! No, the Rollo Coaster takes us back to a different time when the object was simply to have fun. This coaster may indeed seem tame by today's standards. But it's an ACE Classic. ACE is the American Coaster Enthusiasts, of which I'm a member www.aceonline.org But keep this in mind. Although the drops may not be that high, this ain't no kiddie coaster. The ride is surprisingly rough! It's a classic old woodie with all the shakes, rattles, rolls, dips, turns, etc. You're still vibrating a little when you exit the ride! The Rollo Coaster is a terrain coaster, meaning that it takes advantage of the ravine it's built in. Kennywood's three woodies are also examples of terrain coasters. It was built in 1938 by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, which still makes roller coaster cars. As I understand it, when it was built the designers from PTC came out to the park and fit the coaster to the terrain. One of the other neat things about it is that it's built in a wooded area. Legend has it that some of the trees in the park were used to build the ride. So no, the Rollo Coaster can't compete with the likes of the Maverick, the Phantom's Revenge, The American Eagle, or the Magnum XL. It doesn't need too. It only wants you to get on board and have fun and laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIa8l8C0GzM

Also, the cocktail bar on the boardwalk was closed as well with some other food options not running either. There's not an abundance of rides, so when multiple are closed, you are disappointing your customers. Aesthetically, the park needs updated. Walking around and seeing areas with overgrown weeds and weeds coming up from under the boards just says "we don't care". The landscaping used to be pristine and now it's either just mulch or overgrown weeds. At the lazy river, the containers for shoes had some very gross mold or something all along the bottom, so we didn't put our shoes there. On some of the building walls by the lazy river, there was mold or something growing on them. Simple power washing can fix these things. People want to walk through and feel like you care about their experience. The "bar" had frozen drink machines that just didn't freeze all day and the worker even said "if you want something of a frozen consistency, you are not going to get it" and then continued selling watery non-frozen drinks from the machine and pouring some alcohol in. For $16 a drink, I passed. Sandcastle could be amazing, but the owners need to add new attractions, make sure rides and food stands are open for people and keep the area clean. It felt dirty in many places when we walked around. Lastly, whoever is in control of the music piping through the park needs a different job. The music was awful on repeat all day.

If it looks like the weather is turning, I'd recommend starting outside and hitting up the batting cages or go-kart racing as those close first. We arrived just as the skies were opening up so concentrated on the inside. We had two small kiddos with us aged 5 years old. The Duckpin bowling was perfect for them. They loved it, and we selected the game theme as Christmas. Why not? It was Christmas in July! While bowling, we ordered dinner so we could eat and play at the same time. Think basic arcade/amusement park fare. But it was all pretty tasty. We ordered a large pizza and some garlic bread sticks. We devoured it all. From here, we went to the arcade, which was the biggest hit with the kids. They just loved all of the game options and winning tickets to win a prize. Personally, I was addicted to the quarter drop games and since it's all payment through a pre-paid card, it's easy to burn through the money! The rain eventually slowed so we checked out the outdoor putt putt golf and took the kids to a few of the rides. They loved the hot air balloons and the swinging ride. I will add, that the rides are more like carnival rides. Several of them were not working. We joined the kids on the spinning seat ride and there was a dramatic moment where they couldn't get any of the lap bars to open. It was actually very nerve-wracking. My bar wouldn't come up but after several tries they got it to open. My son's bar never actually got open after nearly the entire staff came out to help. He was surprisingly calm given the circumstances and we eventually were able to position him in a way that we could pull him out of the ride. The lap bar never opened. It was a little terrifying. But I'm giving the place a strong review since they truly seemed mortified by the situation. And allowed our kids to pick out whatever toy they wanted. While it was pretty traumatizing, they were able to pick out some new toys and that made them so happy. I was just glad I didn't sit in the seat my son was in. I don't know what would have happened!

The sharp braking at the end, in particular, caught me off guard and left me wishing the ride were just a bit smoother--I could've sworn I broken a rib and almost got sent flying. Despite that, I really enjoyed the experience overall. It's unpredictable, nostalgic, and a fun change of pace from more modern coasters. Just maybe don't ride it with a full stomach!

What a shame too because it is the best wild mouse type rollercoaster in existence. It's certainly one of the longest and it has some steep drops and some wild hairpin turns on it. The ride has had it's share of mechanical difficulties over the years. That and the Wild Mouse did not operate during a part of 2011 because of a lawsuit a woman filed, cliaming that she was injured on the ride in 2009. Uh, she also had pre-existing medical conditions, which if you read the signs, they advise against riding the coaster if you have them. Hopefully Idlewild will get the Wild Mouse running again soon.

Especially considering that most county fairs seem to be an exercise in separating you from your wallet. Not only that, but there are incredibly reasonable deals on food and water. Bottles of water are only a dollar at most vendors. I saw a $1 grilled cheese sandwich. You can buy a walking onion for $3. A walking onion? I have no idea. It was too hot for me to consider eating something that was billed to taste like french onion soup. But now, I regret the decision. I did try one of the $6 pit beef sandwiches after seeing the smoker in the back. Man, that was serious and resulted in a fantastic smoke ring. And the $4 milkshakes were pretty fantastic, especially the strawberry. And no fair experience is complete without funnel cake. The one from the permanent structure was fantastic. Also we took in a clogging show and watched a whole lot of goats get judged. The rides were a lot of fun for the kids. I found the ferris wheel to be terrifying, but enjoyed the bumper cars. I'm really hoping that we make it back here next year during fair week, because this place is fantastic.
