They said they could not complete my order because all of the 5 different British pies were not stocked at their location. Excellent pies that would be right at home at an English pub! We got the steak and ale, scotch pie, pork pie, steak and kidney, a Cornish pasty and a shepherds pie. They were all fantastic! The Shepherd's pie is made from lamb as God intended, though they do serve Cottage pie if you prefer a ground beef filling. The steak pies have chunks of tender steak inside and the crust is clearly scratch-made. Don't be put off by the location - the pie shop is inside the pizza parlor! So just a heads up, this is both a pizza place and pies place. So if you see a sign saying "Antonio's Kensington's Pizza Pies" you're in the right spot! Seems to be a simple enough concept, you choose your fresh made pie from the fridge on the side and can either take it home or have them heat it up for you in store. Be warned though, the pies are popular, so the later in the day you show up, the less options you have. I ended up going for a cheese and onion pasty and in about 20 minutes, it was finally received. Overall it was quite tasty! The pastry is flaky and delicately soft. The filling was like the perfect combination of potato, onion and cheese. Flavorful, but not overwhelmed with cheese. I just had one of the most pleasant friendliest experiences at this unique vendor. Italian owned Pizza Place serving British Pub food. Oxymoron right?! But it works! The owners were an absolute joy to converse with. Enthusiastic to answer all my questions and show me their wares. I was working in the area and looking for something else when this popped up on Yelp. I was thoroughly intrigued. Especially because they had a steak & kidney pie. If you know anything about me, I'm an innards girl. All the animal bits & pieces. I called my Dad & picked stuff up for both of us. I went home and heated the steak & kidney pie for about 30 mins. And I must say it was absolutely delicious! The flaky buttery crust that enveloped the bubbling hot gravy full of tender bits of kidneys & steak that worked so harmoniously together. The crust was substantial enough to keep its texture without getting soggy. In other words pie perfection! I had the Cornish Pasty for breakfast the next day. Very good also. Great filling to crust ratio. Think British Empanada as Jim C from Connecticut commented to me hahaha. Lots of meat, potatoes, carrots & peas. Sunday dinner in a crust. The Pork Pie I had warmed up & cool. I had bought 2 for this purpose. To try both ways. I preferred the cool version because it reminded me of one of my favorite snacks Pate De Campagne. Browsing through some restaurants that are part of Jet Blue dining rewards I found Kensington Pies which operates out of the same space as Antonio's Pizzeria. It's mainly a takeout place and doesn't have seating options. I ordered over the phone and my food was ready to go upon arrival. I've had savory pies when I traveled to the UK a few years ago. The pies from Kensington were close to the real deal. I tried the chicken pie, steak & ale pie and pork pie. The crust on all three was delicious. Flaky, light and crisp with a buttery flavor. The steak and ale was my favorite of the three since it had the most complex flavor. The beef, ale and spices all worked together to create a great flavor trip. Chicken was straight forward. Would have liked a bit more gravy inside the chicken pie. The pork pie resembled a sausage on the inside and had some spices that gave it some character. I love pies of all kinds so was super psyched to find out about Kensington Pies on Yelp. Called the store to reserve a mushroom/chicken and shepards pie. Swung by a half hour later to pick them up and met the owner Antonio, an Italian-born chef raised in England - hence the store offers both pizza and traditional savory English pies. Brilliant concept if you ask me. Antonio told me that fruit pies are special order so I plan to reserve several of those for the upcoming holidays. Their scrumptious, reasonably priced pies are made from scratch with flaky golden crusts and yummy fillings. One pie is plenty for one hungry person as a meal. My hubby and I were looking for a new place to try for lunch and I came across this on Yelp. Oooh...British food! It happens to share space with a pizzeria. There is a large selection of pies to choose from! I had the Chicken Mushroom pie which has 3 types of mushrooms and the hubby had the Chicken Leek pie. They were excellent! I normally don't like to eat the ends of the crust but it was so good. There is a few seats inside and a table outside if you wish to eat outdoors. If you want to stay and eat, they will heat up the pie for you (it is refrigerated) to enjoy. There is also a frozen section so you can take some home to enjoy later. It is the perfect portion size if you don't want something heavy. For dessert, they have British pies as well and in another freezer section homemade gelato. When you enter this pizzeria you see an Italian guy with an English accent. What's up with that? It's Kensington pie and Italian pizzeria! The owner Italian by birth but grew up in England and somehow ended up in East Meadow. Lucky for us! He makes these amazing British pies. So many varieties to choose from including beef and mushroom, cottage pie and chicken curry pie. Prices are reasonable for such tasty treats. Look for discounts and deals online or on menu. I held off for the 2nd visit to rate this place. On the first visit, I was surprised to see that the pastries are simply packed in a refrigerated display case shared with the pizza operation. Also the proprietor struck me as being a bit gruff. On the other hand, the food was great. Second visit, I'm getting used to the arrangement and I thought the food was fantastic. Many bakeries in Nassau County, but this one is absolutely unique. The Cornish Pastie I bought recently was probably all the lunch I would need, and they only run six bucks. The beef and mushroom pie was rich with a crust that hits it out of the park. I expect to be a regular here. read more

Wow, what surprisingly delicious pies! The place and food appear modest, the location is inconspicuous, but these pies are amazing. The pastry is so soft and airy. I picked up the steak and ale and cottage pie in which I was delightfully educated that a cottage pie was the U.S. equivalent of the traditional shepherd's pie. I ordered two to sample and was pleasantly surprised how delcious they were. They were both bursting with flavor, meat so fresh, and peas so soft yet firm. You can actually taste a hint of ale in the steak and ale pie, but my favorite was actually the cottage pie as I am more of a meat and potatoes type of person. This place always has a nice variety of fresh and frozen pies to bring home. My personal favorite is steak and bacon and the shepherds pie is the best I've ever had. Wanted to try this place for a while and finally made it and bought 3 pies to try ( chicken curry, shepherd pie and steak with mushrooms) . The owner told me to warm at 360 degrees for 20 minutes and they came out with perfect crust and got inside. I loved the chicken curry best. It had large chunks of chicken and great flavor and moisture. The shepherds pie was made with ground lamb but odor of lamb was too strong for my taste and too dry same as steak with mushroom. I will try chicken with leeks next. The must have for dessert is the Limoncello Mascarpone cake . It's the best I have tasted. I was looking for some pie places close to my parents, and this place happened to pop up for me. It didn't appear as if they had a physical location, but rather, you placed an order through them, and they would deliver them to you. It also appeared that they didn't have an online ordering system, and the email address on their website was not valid, so you would think, surely, were the pies even worth the hassle? The only way you can place an order, aside from perhaps going to the few farmers' markets that they happen to sell their pies in, is to call in your order. Well, turns out, they were indeed quite delicious. Their pub pies are larger and can be shared, while their rolls and bakes are single servings. They have quite a few offerings, including numerous vegetarian options. I decided to order a few different items, though they sadly happened to be out of a lot of what I had chosen. Anthony, the owner, explained to me that weekends are not always the best time to order as they may not have all of their offerings available, so the best bet is to order during the week. My bf loved their steak bake, and I loved their vegetarian meat bake. The crusts were flaky and buttery, and as cheesy as it sounds, it did seem like their items were all baked with love. I'm definitely planning on ordering from here again, and I hope this little business can only continue to grow. read more
