After a two month closure for expansion and renovation, Kent's Kitchen has reopened and it looks virtually identical to how it has always looked. Even though everything is brand new and sparkling clean, it looks like an old, fast-food take out counter. When I glance inside, I'm just amazed at how busy it is over average food but cheap prices sure will do that to you, doesn't it? I see 'fake steam' being pumped above the food, to make it appear fresh and hot...each pan so over-stuffed that it seeps onto the edges, even dropping over to the customers' side; if one is cheap enough, you can probably pouch one & shove in your mouth before anyone would notice lol. But it's decent tasting, won't knock you off your feet. everything you can think of w/ msg written all over it: chop suey, sweet & sour pork, chow mein, etc. Fresh overall, w/ this amount of turnover. No Star!! My husband bought a bowl of Beef and Broccoli for to go. When I opened it at home,, there's no slice of beef in there!! ALL BROCCOLI!!! So just an advice to those people who wants to buy here for takeout, make sure u watch for them when portioning your food! I even took a video of it. I was at Kent's Kitchen on 5659 Victoria Dr, Vancouver this past week. I saw an older woman (looking like more than 70 yrs old), placed an order of 2 items with rice combo. The server gave the elder box full of rice, however, the selected 2 items, she was given a few small pieces. I was observing others who placed order of same items, they were given lots more. I raised the issue, one of the server (maybe the manager) was yelling at me in Chinese. The service at this location is horrible, especially towards our seniors. People should stop going to this location until the service improved and they stop discriminate our venerable senior citizens. I gave this restaurant a negative rating and will never go back again. read more

Had no idea this was the same takeout as the Kents in Chinatown, mainly cause the quality seemed far better. This location is takeout only, with a large selection of freshly made to the minute. You cant beat the price, and flavour. read more

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the items are all displayed without their names and it's hard to choose because we don't know what they're. We have to ask them every time and it's difficult because, 1- they speak very less English and 2- it's always busy. There's a line up most of the time. I would never eat here again. Food is not marked, so you need to ask what is what and it is definitely not fresh. As per usual with a lot of these places, most of the items like chicken, have the bone in. :( Add to this, after eating my order, I have had a very bad stomach and had no sleep. It's cheap, it's quick, it's greasy. Will you get a stomach ache? Probably, but darn it, it's tasty and you WILL be filled to the brink. If you want a quick, cheap meal loaded with MSG, made with old and possibly unwashed veggies, meat that isn't fresh and seafood that costs extra then Kent's Kitchen is the place for you. Despite the less then satisfying food quality, they do have lots to choose from and still have a steady flow of eager customers willing to open their wallets to save a buck or two. read more

I'm writing this review on behalf of my parents. They have been visiting this place for many years, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the food and customer service hasn't been an issue. Until recently, they decided to hire a 'watch dog' (older lady who is keeping tabs on how many people are inside). I get it, she's doing her job and we're dealing w/a pandemic but her attitude was too much. She barked at my parents and other customers regarding masks and distancing. Several times, outside the door and while inside. She was also being a complete bully and going out of her way about it. Rude, pushy and repetitive. To top it off, there were no signs about masks being mandatory, just markers & customer count. My dad is normally a calm fellow who goes with the flow but he lost his cool and gave her a piece of his mind. Telling her, "I heard you, this is unnecessary, you don't need to make a scene!" She ran off scared. This is just a take out place, people are hungry, let them order their food & get on with it. They don't need the extra bullying on the side. My parents will not be returning anytime soon. read more

This is the greasiest Chinese food I've ever had. The selection of non-meat items is limited to 3 things, noodles, tofu and vegetables. All were super oily. I can't recommend this place. Service is fast, and most customers were Asian. It's always busy,so the cheap prices must keep people coming, but I 'll take a miss. I had to reheat when I Got home, so I wonder how long things we're standing in the display window. Lots of Peking duck hanging too, although I don't eat that. read more

Two items with steamed rice $4.50, with noodles $4.75--sweet right?!? But no now there is a slight catch. If you want shrimp in the combo it's an extra $2.50--ok. Wait there's more, if you want fish in the combo it's an extra $2--ok. Hold the f'n presses it you want chicken---yes that's right chicken, it's an extra $1.25. Why u might ask?--- the answer was "this chicken more expensive". Ok I'll have the beef with broccoli --- that's right folks "that beef $1.25 extra" she starts to tell me why I cut her off and say what is available without extra charges. She shows me the beef with mushrooms, all the pork and a few bone in chicken and full veg items. Now I'm hyper aware of holding up the line(which requires u take a number) and the fact that each dish requires back-forth chit chat since nothing is labelled. Why oh why indeed. This is one of those Chinese takeout places. It has a pretty extensive selection of dishes. They also sell the standard crispy skin roast pork, bbq pork, etc. I don't think I have been in this place when it wasn't busy - take a number when you get in and then decide. We typically get combos with 2 items on top of white rice, or for a bit more, on top of chow mein or fried rice. We are getting a bit smarter ... They have some items that will cost you an extra $1.25 if you choose it as part of a combo. They also have cheaper items like veggies, that are cheaper as a separate dish. We have started to just order a large container of those items, but after going here for several years now, we are just figuring out that now - guess we have always been in a hurry when we go here and didn't worry so much about that. Combined with a $1 drink from McD (just beside) and you have a sizeable meal for about $10 or less + possibly lunch the next day too. read more
