My partner and I were given a Groupon to visit Keon's in Haverhill, and we had no idea what to expect. When owner Rob greeted us warmly at the door, we looked around and figured that we had entered an Irish pub or Bistro, since Keon's is relatively small and unimpressive as a structure. However, any doubts we had about the place were quickly dispelled by our server, Kayla, who told us a bit about the menu. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. So awesome was the food that it felt as though we had gone to a community theatre and discovered that we were at the Royal Shakespeare Company. Each dish was beautifully plated and distinctly delicious, with the accompaniments perfect for the featured protein. The chef knows how to create and present "fine dining." Specifics: We had warm bread with a delicious home made hummus, with lemon and garlic. For an appetizer, we chose the " steak bomb egg rolls" which were served with a very tasty remoulade. We each had an entree. My partner took Three Brothers, a dish that offered shrimp, chicken, and beef tenderloin with haricot verts and whipped Yukon potatoes with lemon basil supreme sauce. I had the pan seared scallops, which were served with roasted cauliflower puree, and apple smoked bacon with dijon and golden raison chutney. For dessert, we had a very ample carrot cake. We enjoyed choosing 2 beers on tap: Stella Artois and Allagash White. We were totally delighted with the ambiance and quality of Keon's, and although the prices may seem high, they are totally justified by the fine dining experience that we had. We recently had dinner at Keon's in downtown Haverhill, MA- Keon's may be the best in the city. They have been so consistent over the years. The ambience is warm and intimate. This is one of my favorite restaurants. Its not a very big place and reservations are recommended, although we have called several times last minute and scored a table. Everything is delicious. I always get the spinach and arugula salad with gouda croutons. The gouda croutons are to die for. I have never had a bad meal. 3 brothers is my go to. Wow!!! What a great surprise. My son-in-law made a reservation for 5 of us at Keon's, a small bistro, for my daughters birthday. My wife and I arrived first, with our 5 year old grandson, and walking in the door we looked at each other and wondered with some dread why here? It looked more like a small neighborhood bar than a highly rated restaurant. There was a near full length bar on the right wall with dark woods, just a handful of booths and tables lining the left wall, and a very narrow aisle or path between. Very small and a tad cramped. Well, suffice to say when we finished dinner and walked out, my wife and I both said we definitely need to return. It was that awesome. We were seated immediately by I assume the manager. Our server immediately introduced herself and took drink orders followed by bringing a small loaf of fresh bread with pats of butter and a flavored hummus. We started with their meatballs and crab cakes apps. Both were delicious. My son-in-law and I ordered their farmhouse meatloaf while my wife and daughter ordered the Veal Marsala special. I'll note here there is no children's menu, but my grandson was happy with the meatballs and bread, while also tasting his mom's veal dish. The meatloaf, a combo of tenderloin, brisket, and pork belly, was a long thick generous slice sitting on very nice mashed potatoes, covered in a mushroom Demi glacé sauce and topped with a crisped poached egg. It had a couple stalks of broccolini on the side. The egg didn't add anything but the dish as a whole was absolutely delicious. It was one of the best tasting meatloafs I've ever had. Both wife and daughter said their Veal Marsala was absolutely the best they've had. It was served with mushroom ravioli. I had a taste of my wives and I have to agree. The sauce was an absolute home run. Our server was fantastic. Due to the small size, it was a little on the loud side, but not earsplittingly so. No it doesn't look like much on initial impression, but the food and service were awesome. So do try Keon's. You won't regret it. We had purchased a Groupon to try some place new. The first time we attempted it was busy and were not able to seat a party of 2 without a reservation. So we left and tried another local place. A few weeks later I called same day and was able to reserve a table for 2 for that night. The place is intimate and is not handicap accessible. Parking could pose an issue but we scored street parking right in front. Our table was right next to door so I was concerned with the cold coming in each time the door opened but it was fine as they have a heater in the vestibule you walk in to. Again it's tight inside but do NOT let that sway you from going in. To be honest between the food and the service it was legitimately one of the best experiences out to dinner. Our server was clearly a professional that knew how to serve customers and knew the menu inside and out. I don't mean what's on the menu but how things are prepared. We started with Steak & Cheese egg rolls, my husband took a bite and said it was incredible. That they are handmade and perfect. I chose the filet which was flavorful and tender, the asparagus was grilled perfectly with flavor but not overwhelming to the point you don't taste the actual flavor of asparagus. The mashed potatoes were literally the best mashed I have ever had. Absolutely delish. My husband ordered the meatloaf and he was taken by the flavors, the consistency and the overall quality of the meat used. We ended with coffee and a slice of carrot cake. Only complaint is I was so full I had to take more than half the cake home for later. Do not hesitate to go to Keons. We were greeted warmly by a lovely waitress who took good care of us. After enjoying a wonderful cosmopolitan cocktail and bread with fresh humus we put in our order for our entrees. The salads, Ceaser was fine but nothing special, and the arugula-spinach, had little spinach and way too many stems. Being New Year's Eve, the menu was somewhat limited. We decided on the lamb chops, seabass, and a pork chop. The lamb chops were fine but the vegetable and starch had to be sent back to be heated. The seabass was the smallest piece of fish that I have ever been served. Even as an appetizer it would have been considered a small portion. The chop was good. We ordered both desserts that were offered. The creme Brule was delicious and well portioned, but the chef's take on a smore, was a puff of foam with a few crumbs on top with a little chocolate drizzle on the plate. I would have been ashamed to serve. All three of us felt everything was overpriced for the amount and quality of the food. I had always wanted to try their groupon, and maybe for half the price it would have been more palatable. read more

If you're looking for a neighborhood gem in the Haverhill area, this is the place to go. The menu appears simple at first glance, but the flavors do not disappoint. The text you read can't always let you know there's a chef in the back who pays great attention to flavors, and their sauces are classical and decadent! I had the 'coca cola' short rib, simply atop mashed potatoes with a demi-glacé and it was exactly what I expected. I'm not a fan of undercooked haricots vert, but that's personal preference. My friend had a dish they claimed to be Saltimbocca, but it was nothing like that. It was void of sage and the sauce was very creamy, over a ricotta cavatelli with crispy pancetta and shaved perorino. This was a 'spot on' carbonara dish if I've ever had one! Sans the egg. They have a carbonara appetizer so I'm guessing therein lies the mix up. That dish was a delicious, clearly the star of the evening. This weeks Keon's did not disappoint at all. The meatloaf and crab cakes pictured were incredible! Service was good Our baked Brie app was cold and never baked and runny but rather cold and required a knife to cut. Entrée were good Dessert...meh! Crème brûlée was cold and barley crusted The worst was after paying close to a $400. bill, we were given styrofoam (non recyclable containers) to pack our own food in...gravies and all. Very déclassé!!!! When addressed, the old covid excuse was given. The restaurant prepares,cooks and brings the food to us. Sorry buddy but Covid restrictions were lifted in Massachusetts. Boston could be the first community to ask shops, restaurants and hotels to donate leftovers. Bit what about covid?' Using covid as an use is just that... an excuse. Ambiance was pleasant. read more
