Our journey began with a surrogacy pregnancy, and due to high-risk factors, our insurance required our surrogate to deliver at Kern Medical. I'll admit that we initially had some concerns based on what we had heard and read beforehand. However, our experience ultimately exceeded every expectation. The labor and delivery turned into a very intense and emotional situation. Our baby had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck and went into distress, requiring an emergency C-section. It was a frightening moment, but the medical team acted quickly, decisively, and with incredible skill. Looking back, we truly believe their actions made all the difference and may have saved our baby's life. After delivery, our baby spent three weeks in the NICU recovering from respiratory issues, a staph infection, and learning how to feed. During that time, the NICU doctors and nurses were nothing short of extraordinary. They were compassionate, attentive, and endlessly patient--not only caring for our baby but also guiding us as new parents. They took the time to teach us techniques and build our confidence, which made the transition home so much smoother. What stood out most was how genuinely supported we felt. The team treated us with kindness and respect, and by the end of our stay, we truly felt like we had formed meaningful connections with them. We always felt that our baby was in capable, caring hands. Today, our baby is thriving, and we are deeply grateful. Cleanliness is disgusting. My husband was in a room for 4 patients on the 2nd floor. 2 patients were moved out earlier in the day and those bed stations did not get cleaned, all day. They moved a new patient into a dirty space that had not been sanitized or cleaned at all. I saw the Janitorial staff go by our door several times, they never came in to clean. The ER doctors & nurses were fantastic however. The nurses upstairs really couldn't give a shit about their patients, and family needs to stay on top of them to get better care. read more

Admitted 5/3 was supposed to be transfered. Still hasn't happened now 5/9. So far, I've watched a mouse steal the set of hospital undies underneath my roommates bed that'd been there since my arrival. Cleaned nastiness out of a Jimmy rigged faucet. Been woken up every night by the floor cleaners Doctors don't communicate with staff, and overlook patient concerns running tests not needed. Case managers lie or are lazy on transports. All of this makes me want to leave and die at home, or at least never seek treatment again . And my life is still on the line. Not eaten in a month post stroke? Mostly when my sister fainted because she was sick and had a fever I mostly cried all the way over there because why not but then my mom and my other people from my family came it was just like 8 people that came and she had to get blood out of her arm and she a was screaming in pain my mom told me but the doctor didn't even do anything to make her stop crying that's why I prefer Kaiser p. Better but mostly over All both hospitals are I guess bad but then they told my mom that my little sister had a virus and had to fight it on her own that's stupid they didn't even give her a medication they didn't tell my mom what to do and what not to do. My labor and delivery nurses were absolutely phenomenal. This was my first baby I came in crying in so much pain from contractions. the admitting nurse I do not remember her name I was in too much pain but she was a young Latina girl with glasses so kind to me and Dr Shannon the admitting Dr so so kind as well and does not undermine your pain, educated me on everything going on and got me into a room asap. RN Tanya was my first nurse who was assigned to me she listened to all my needs she got me the epidural she comforted me in the most vulnerable state of my life she held my hand when I got the epidural and she kept me updated on all my progress. After shift change I had Simi RN and Megan RN amazing women so helpful and these women helped deliver my baby girl they always listened to me made me feel heard and took care of me so much. I'm so grateful to have given birth at kmc and these women to help me I will truly never forget them and I thank them so much for being there for me at the hardest most vulnerable time of my life. Went to the ER and was told my bill was over $400 just for them to take vitals. They left me sitting for hours while obviously suffering and provided little to no communication as to when I could expect to be seen by a doctor after I was already in a room. Not a single one of the employees encountered made the slightest effort to help and if one had bothered to make that effort, my issue could have been resolved in 5 minutes. While I was waiting and getting increasingly desperate, I looked up what to do to resolve it and we decided to leave. Went to the drug store, got what was needed, went home, and resolved my own problem. If I ever need an ER again, I won't be coming here. This place fits the bill of a terrible ER. read more

When we got there she assisted me, by carrying my diaper bag and helped me with everythingil I needed, because I was carrying my daughter. She went above and beyond. I had a horrible experience that could have been prevented with better communication between surgical post op nurses and patient families. Since they won't tell you, I will. If your scheduled surgery goes longer than expected and you are still in post op after visiting hours are over, your family can't see you. My husband's surgical appointment was at 10:45 AM. He went into surgery at 1:45 PM. His 2-3 hr surgery took 6 (which I completely understand, he's high risk and it was more complicated once he was opened up, still, was worried sick after the 4 hour mark). Our surgeon spoke with me and then left at 7. Visiting hours ends around 8:10-8:15PM, there's an announcement. The waiting room has a telephone to contact the nurses station, and when I called to check on my husband at 9 PM, I was told visiting hours are over. They'll have him call me when he can. Because you want to put that on somebody coming out of surgery. Why couldn't somebody let us know this at 8? Why weren't we made aware of this possibility before hand?Unacceptable. Do better. While I love our doctor, if surgery is needed in the future we will find someone else who works at a different hospital. read more

I had the best experience at this hospital delivering my first baby girl. Almost all the staff are exceptionally nice and caring. I felt like they really wanted what was best for me. Very patient, I had a rough delivery and I never felt like I wasn't being cared for. I heard a lot of negative things about this hospital but I genuinely think it's just because of the area of town it's in, the age of hospital, and the fact that it's not aesthetically updated. Lots of odd patients outside. If you can look past the way it looks, I recommend it for all first time mothers. My medi-cal/kern family insurance covered almost everything. They provide great postpartum care instructions and they automatically sent over an abundance of prescriptions I needed to my pharmacy. Best thing about this place is definitely the staff, super friendly, funny, and helpful, especially a nurse I had named Rebecca in the labor and delivery unit. I recommend this hospital!! read more

I was pregnant and had heard a lot of horror stories about KMC, which is where I was supposed to deliver. I thought about switching hospitals but never did, and I'm glad, because the experience was pretty great. I went in 10/15/24 for a scheduled induction, which failed and I ended up having a c-section 10/18 and was discharged 10/21. My only complaint was the rough c-section but I honestly don't know if that was due to the doctor or my body. My baby ended up spending 9 days in NICU. I ended up having to come back 3 days after I was discharged because of incision complications and was admitted from 10/21-10/28 - so I spent 10 days in the hospital total. I interacted with labor & delivery, post partum, emergency, wound care, and med/surg. I interacted with so many different people - from many different nurses, PCTs, doctors, to admission and nutrition staff. Everyone was amazing. (Again, the only time I wasn't impressed was with the doctor who actually performed my c-section - but idk if he even did anything wrong). Everyone was so kind, had great bedside manner, listened to what I had to say, explained every process and medication to me, and I felt like I was in great hands. The experience with my baby in NICU was so terrifying but the nurses and doctor made me feel very comfortable and, most importantly, they took amazing care of my baby. The L&D room was nice and big with a bathroom and shower. Post partum room was much smaller but it was private with a bathroom and shower. Med/surg room was shared with 3 other beds, which can get interesting depending on who your roommates are, but that's not a KMC issue. The food they serve you is decent and nutrition staff always comes in with a smile on their face. When I was re-admitted into med/surg, everyone was constantly asking how my baby was, if there were any updates, they were more than willing to get me up to the 4th floor to visit her any time I wanted, and when she was released from NICU before I could leave the hospital, they really pushed to get me out of there so I could be home with her. I really appreciated that care and sensitivity during such a scary time. So, the reason I'm deducting a star. My actual c-section surgery was very traumatic and rough. Baby did not want to come out. I don't remember much but this is what I do remember: the doctor saying she kept moving transverse, him calling for a second doctor stat, 3 people pushing down on my abdomen so hard their arms were shaking to help guide her out of my body, and the delay it took for her to cry once she was out. I know that both the vacuum and forceps had to be used, and she ended up with two small skull fractures because of this (no bleeding), which sent her to the ER. She also had trouble breathing, had jaundice, and needed IV nutrition for a bit until she was able to eat on her own. Again, I don't know if any of this was because of the doctor himself or because of my body/her not wanting to come out. If I knew 100% it was his fault, of course I'd deduct more than 1 star... but I really don't know. read more

They are so over worked, but they still come to work happy and wanting to help. The doctors here are some of the smartest in the nation, and I want to give a special shout out to Dr. Mark Amin. He did not address my pain in my thumb and now more than a month later I am still suffering and have nerve damage because he refused to help me. Total and complete unprofessionalism!!! The security guard and the we nurses in the back are saying two different things. My wife was in the back with my minor daughter. The security guard is saying only one of us can go back there. And my wife has been o come out first if I want to go back. But the nurses in the back are saying both of us can go back there. To avoid making problems my wife came out. The guard then said it's shift change and I have to wait an hour because there is no one to escort me. I said my daughter is a minor. My dad was admitted 9/26/22 in severe pain. Long story short, my dad was dying. He passed away 9/29/22 which is why I've taken so long to write this review. Dr. Joshua Crosby and Dr. Amber Jones operated on him and they took great care of him. Everyone taking care of him was amazing. The staff, from ER to Med-Surg to OR, treated him and my family with the utmost respect and dignity. I knew my dad was dying but the staff at Kern Medical still went above and beyond for my dad. I would avoid Kern Medical if at all possible. The staff does not do what the patient wants them to do. They pretend the patient never asked. It is a day of kids and no adult supervision. DO NOT HAVE A BABY AT THIS HOSPITAL! I just moved into town and ended up getting sent here from my ob. Worst experience of my life. To start off the staff that were in the OR were extremely unprofessional. The anesthesiologist that did my epidural was talking about going on vacation during the procedure! Once the surgery began they literally were playing country music on blast! I told them I still had feeling left and if it was normal... they said yes. I literally felt everything during the c section. Once my son was born they didn't monitor him or check him whatsoever. The nurses were extremely rude and careless. To top it off our room had an ant infestation and they were even crawling on my baby! Oh and how could I forget the part where they discharged me and left the IV inside my arm. They sent me to the ER and denied me service. A nurse ended up coming out to the parking lot and took it out there. Please do yourself and your baby a favor and deliver somewhere else! Been coming here for about 2 months to bring my friend Kevin. Dr Benson Lee is great, I think sometimes he gets a lil overwhelmed with all of Kevin's health issues. The office is very clean and the staff is very friendly, lots of chairs to sit in. The Back office Medical assistants just sit in their lil room and talk while patients are waiting patiently to be checked out. Kevin was given a order for some DME supplies and as of today we are still waiting. I had called Kern Medical Supplies and they mentioned that the wrong patient notes were sent in with the order. I dont know what to say but I know mistakes do happen but we are still waiting patiently. The referral process is very slow this young man has many health issues and it takes forever to get a call back and a appointment with specialist. I hope one day these simple issues can be resolved. For clerical courtesy, routine labwork and being up-to-date on CoVid-19 science, this facility is NOT following current medical science and is stuck back in the dark ages. THIS WAS ON FEB 28,2024 AROUND 5:55-6:10pm Worst care, rude to patients. Office people having the worst attitude I'd rate 0 stars if I could ! I am 9 months pregnant and went in because I fell out a truck. They took me to pregnancy waiting room to register. They took the wheelchair I needed and made me sit on the chair at the front desk. The lady there at the front desk named Isabell or Isabella was rude from the moment I sat down with her. She asked me a question and I was in so much pain that i didn't get to hear her. When I asked her what she asked she asked again in the nastiest attitude. Had attitude the whole time helping me. After she was finished she said I can go sit down at the other chairs in the waiting room. To where my baby's father told her that if we could get the chair because I physically couldn't walk myself at all to the chairs. I was in such pain from my legs I literally was dragged from the car to the wheelchair when I first got to the hospital that's how bad it was. All she said was she' would let a nurse know for a wheel chair but that I had to move from the seat. (Which obviously I couldn't do) my baby's father told her no I wouldn't be moving and I was going to wait right there till the wheelchair arrived, cause I couldn't walk. She went to go ask for one and when she came back she said they will bring one when available and said I'd have to move if someone came in that I can't be there. I have to go sit in another chair all rude. We waiting a bit till my baby's father went out and pressed the nurses call button and asked for one so we can move. It was brought and when he dragged my body to the wheelchair the other patients were telling us how rude the front desk lady was to them as well. That they been waiting for ever to be seen. My baby's father asked for her name and he was already mad due to her being so rude to us and started telling her stuff. Then the head nurse came in and said not to talk to her like that got her name as well. Because as head nurse you should know better than to let any of your staff to rest anyone rudely. We didn't get the head nurse name but other nurse that went in with the wheelchair was Maria. Very sarcastic attitude when we told her we were leaving to another hospital. When we were at the elevator they told her to wait that someone would be coming for me (guessing security) due to my baby's father being angry but we told her to take us anyways. Everyone at the hospital from the moment we got there were slightly rude but the front desk lady was the rudest. Has no care for her job, how she talks to patients and needs to be talked to about how she interacts with future patients. I'm saying this because we were not the only ones talked to rudely from her. There excuse as to why they didn't have wheelchairs or room was cause other people were in front of us. Made a big deal just because we couldn't get a wheelchair. WENT TO HOSPITAL ON34th st memorial hospital and got in a room within 15 or less mins and everything . Had a wheelchair the entire time. Friendly staff all around. All the workers at kern should learn a thing or two. I will be calling to get the head of director involved and will be posting in groups so let everyone know how bad this hospital is. read more

Updating my review. My last two times here have been pretty good. I came in once for GI upset, had the best nurse and sweetest NP, Chacon Minerva. They took care of me, ran the needed tests, and definitely made me feel like I was cared for more than just another patient. I came in again today, chest pains I wanted to get checked out (thankfully I'm okay) my intake nurse in the front was really sweet. My other nurse in the back was also very nice. My wait was pretty long, but the hospital seemed very busy. I believe KMC is a good hospital even with my last review. Although, of the staff can have attitudes. I believe the doctors here are great and well trained. My experience definitely has changed for the better. read more

Worst medical center ever! My parents were waiting in the room 2+ hours just to receive the results and get the documents, if my father hadn't went to the front desk and asked them that he and my mother had been waiting in the room with no show they would still be there! I get being understaffed but in this scenario they were not. The doctor along with the other staff were rude to my parents. The doctor took hours to come in just to last two minutes, he had brought in a translator and he didn't even let the translator translate to my parents what was the point of that. He did not go over my mothers blood tests aswell .They do not care about their patients at all if I could give a negative review I would do it in a heartbeat. I never give a bad review but in this case i needed to. The staff needs to be more compassionate I get that the job is stressful but that doesn't excuse you to do a poor job. This hospital gave my 7 year old with pneumonia zero treatment. Sent her home with no instructions on how to care for her. No cough medications, no inhalers, the dr himself couldn't even come and tell us the results of her xray. He made the lady who discharged us tell us she had pneumonia and let us go. This used to be my favorite hospital, i will never go here again. They wanted my child to be a statistic for the COVID pandemic, but not my baby and not today satan. The one star is for the NICU! Amazing with my twins, forever thankful for how attentive they are, best NICU ever! Now.. the ER on the other hand gets nothing.. NEGLIGENT AF!!! I waited for SIX HOURS just to get noooo help! I've been in extreme pain, mouth and face are all swollen, I'm literally dizzy and dehydrated cause the pain is so bad that I can not eat or drink not even if it's cold. Lidocaine doesn't last for more than like 5 mins tops, and doesn't reach my throat anyways and makes me gag trying to swallow it.. that being said.. THIS BIT*H in the ER, REFUSED to do ANY blood work on me, refused to give me any fluids for my fever, I haven't eaten in 6 DAYS because of this, I'm literally dizzy whenever I sit my head up! I can't sit for long nevermind stand, and I had to legit drive myself because I have now 5 kids to take care of all on my own! Now that being said, she just LOOKS at me and says "it's a virus there's nothing we can do" I said huh how did you figure that out? She claimed it's textbook and again took nooooo tests except Covid which resulted negative so it makes absolutely ZERO sense. No patient should ever have to tolerate this shit. I've never ever been so upset or rude but I wasn't gonna sit there and be patronized like I'm stupid. After that I walked out, my entire night WASTED again because they refuse to actually do anything! I even mention how I'm feeling a very suspicious lump by my neck and NOTHING! Doesn't check it, doesn't take a blood test, not even fluids to get me hydrated! Absolutely disgusting!! This review is to warn people of the night staff mistreating their patients. Specifically staff members Josh and Crystal/Krystal blatantly ignoring patients. Josh ignored one of my loved ones for 4 hours when they were in need of help overnight as a patient. While helper Crystal/Krystal told the injured and crippled loved one "you need to get up and walk to the bathroom" while they clearly can't move. Day staff has been wonderful, but the night staff the moment visitors aren't allowed to be there begin mistreating your loved ones. KMC needs to fire Josh and Crystal/Krystal. read more
