I had an overall very pleasant experience buying a new pair of running shoes here. I was greeted by an employee when I walked into the store, and the employee took a video of me running barefoot on a treadmill and did a 3D scan of my feet to help find the right kind of shoes for me. The employee was very knowledgeable about the shoes they sold and the biomechanics of running. I was brought a number of options to try and was given all the time I needed to try on different shoes and jog around the store. I feel Road Runner has a larger selection of shoes than a lot of the other local running stores. The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars is because of how pushy they were about selling me a pair of Road Runner custom insoles. I was confident I didn't need them, but was basically not allowed to try on shoes until I was fitted for the insoles. It seemed a bit strange that they force you to get fitted for insoles, and then either charge you around $90 to keep them or just throw them out if you decide against it. read more

This shoe store has a really good selection of shoes and supportive wear for both the very active individuals as well as those more interested in something for walking or long periods of standing. I was helped by an associate named Ian who was very pleasant and very helpful in making my decision regarding which shoe I was most interested in. He took me through the process of understanding my foot anatomy and choosing shoes and orthoses that would best support my foot type. I did not end up purchasing any shoes but the prices were about what you can expect at market value, however, I would highly recommend this store for those who are looking for a new pair of active shoes or just want to know what's on the market currently. read more

Like others have mentioned, Road Runner Sports will sign you up for a "VIP membership" and charge you a ridiculous $49.99 a year later with NO actual or constructive notice of this arbitration to sign up. There was a court case over this in 2022, google Costa vs Road Runner Sports Inc. In simple terms, this feels like a scam. Do you want to support this "business"? Another person wrote a review saying that RRS replied to them "you can't prove you declined it". Do you think this is a good business practice to argue with someone to prove a negative? I wonder if employees are complicit or make commission on these memberships and they're trained to say some b.s. at the register which skirts legality? Just contacted by my bank for potential fraud on my account. RR Sports trying to push through a "membership" charge. The bank declined it due to RR having incorrect information so it was flagged as fraud. Just discovered that RR Sports kept trying and was successful in charging this a few days later. Just off the phone with Justin at RR. He let me know they used my bank account info from an unrelated purchase over a year ago to charge this membership fee that we dispute we agreed to and he says "You can't prove you declined it." What horrible customer service. He had a rude and dismissive attitude when I asked him why they are keeping my bank account information on file. Rarely shopped there and now will most certainly never make a purchase there again. read more

I really liked this store when I first went in early 2022. Great customer service and helpful devices to help you get the best shoes for your particular needs. However, when I went in today I learned they got rid of their discount shoe rack. It was a rack of shoes that had been returned and were lightly worn. That discount rack was something I looked forward to checking out, and the loss of it means I probably won't choose to go to this store again. I have no complaints about the brick and mortar store in Tualatin, OR. Great service, friendly people. I've been there twice. However, placed on online order prior to Christmas, paid for expedited shipping, and even received a confirmation email. Christmas Eve I called the online customer service and was told my order "expired." No reason, nothing I did. It just expired and no gift coming. I was less than happy and not even really apologized to. But they did manage to charge me $69 for what they told me was VIP Plus membership, which I NEVER requested. Of course I was told that's what happens one year after purchasing the membership for $19.99 which was news to me. I guess the moral of the story is to shop in person and forget ordering online. They're unreliable and were not even that empathetic about my order disappearing even though I had the order number, etc. I had to beg for free shipping for the replacement order. We went to exchange a zip up sweatshirt that I bought that the stitching was starting to fall apart after just a few weeks. John had no problem taking care of exchanging this. TL;DR: Huge shout out to John! Thanks for a great experience! I've been going to Road Runner for years now. I refuse to get my running shoes anywhere else lol. My friend and I made a trip here on Saturday to get ourselves some new shoes. It was her first time and she loved it. She averages 40-50 miles / week and was in a bad need for an upgrade. John did an amazing job balancing the two of us, ensuring both our needs were met, made the transaction feel incredibly personal, and got us exactly what we needed. My friend did the whole "exam" - personal insoles, a gait / foot analysis from the treadmill, and tried various shoes recommended from her analysis. John was so patient with us as we tried shoe after shoe. He found the absolute perfect pair for her and never tried to suggest something just as an upsell. He made sure her shoes were exactly what she needed. I've been a VIP member for awhile and didn't need to do the whole process again. I got a new set of personalized insoles and some new socks. (Yay running socks!) John also was able to recommend the best way to use my VIP membership to save us both SO much money. I'm done. VIP membership canceled. Do yourself a favor and go visit the good people at Portland Running Company. They will actually listen to your needs, and offer solutions based on them, and not on their own sales goals. After watching their in-store supply of shorts, sweats, and base layer gear minimized and pushed aside to make room for RR's insole sales department, they have reduced their running shoe selection, as well. They used to have a decent selection of motion control shoes, but on today's visit, I learned they really just have two models from Brooks, and that's it. I was told they have a larger selection online, which I already knew about; but I have no way of trying shoes on over the internet, and that is key to any running shoe purchase. I really like their socks, but I just got six pairs for Christmas, so I'm good for a while. I'm not paying $28/year to save $5.00 on socks every three years. If I can't buy my shoes in the store, and their selection of other gear is dwindling, there's no point in keeping the VIP. I'm keeping at two stars, because they are an okay option for those with normal feet; as long as they can withstand the relentless sales pitches. But I'm done. read more

Needed new running/training shoes and tried out this shop for first time. Nice airy, well-lit space in a quality shopping center. Roberto greeted me and helped me throughout the process from understanding my needs to ringing up the sale. He used tools to gather metrics, mold foam inserts, and make recommendations based on the computer program as well as his personal knowledge about the relative merits/demerits of the many brands and styles out there--pretty bewildering actually. He readily answered all my questions. Ended up buying the two pair (Asics and Brooks), some dry-fit socks and, yes, the foam inserts. Absolutely no pressure to buy anything or join the "club" (loyalty program), which I did and doing so was painless (no, I did not have to provide my social security number...) and saved me $40. I sure hope Roberto received a commission--he certainly earned one. Don't forget how to simply say "no, thanks", politely, Sarah V. And I do not see what is is wrong with a computer taking key measurements and making recommendations based on customer input re prospective use and feet history/condition, especially when the customer then gets to try the shoes on and any others that she/he wishes, and ask questions? I said, no problem, it's 3:30 and I'll be quick. She glares at me, asks what I want and I tell her the style and size. She brings them out and plops them on the counter next to where I'm sitting and walks away. She obviously didn't want to be there, or was looking forward to going to a New Years party tonight. My husband and I just visited Road Runner for the first time since moving to the area. We have been to multiple running stores and have always appreciated the knowledge the staff have concerning proper fit for all foot types, strikes, style etc. NOT HERE. My 3 star rating is due to the following. Staff we're literally giving us info that their computer program was telling them, no knowledge whatsoever of supination, pronation, stride, heel strike or really anything that actually matters when buying a proper running shoe. They have a decent selection of quality shoes. Due to poor communication/listening to needs we walked out with only one pair of shoes, and that was only because I knew what I needed beforehand. I am super disappointed in my experience here. The employees were so disinterested that I ended up walking out of the store. I went in with the intent of buying two new pairs of shoes, and had a good idea of what I wanted, but I couldn't get any help to get the proper sizing. There was one other customer in the store being helped and multiple employees talking in the back. I would get it if it were a staffing issue, but that wasn't the case today. I went in for another set of custom insoles, and Sales Associate Al'Uriel was excellent. He's knowledgeable and thorough and made sure I was 100% comfortable with the insoles after he customized them. He even remade a pair, no charge, because I wasn't sure if one felt funny or not. I have mixed feelings about Road Runner. PROS: the examination of your foot and stride is top notch and the staff is great at identifying the best shoe for your needs. The selection of shoes is extensive. The VIP plan is actually a pretty good deal & you can save some money by signing up. CONS: I can just see the back room of this store with the manager standing there yelling at the employees "coffee is for closers!". They will cross-sell you to death, to see if you can walk out of the store with far more than you need. Have a good plan in mind and learn to say "no" to all the extra sales ideas from the pushy sales associates, and you can escape without trouble. read more

I have been to many other running specialty stores around the Portland area. A friend recommended I check out road runner because he liked them a lot so I did. I wish I could get that hour and a half of my life back. If I could give them zero stars I would. I have an extensive knowledge of how the body moves and how muscles function. Yes the programs that show your gait, foot pressure areas and custom sole inserts ($79 by the way!) are cool to see but they are a great way to mask how horribly trained and and unknowledgable some of these sales people are. All they do is read the screen. After the analysis you are taken over to a sales person ( I feel like the person who analyzed your gate should also sell you your shoes) they told me I needed stability shoes (pronator shoes). I brought my old shoes in that are neutrals. I told them I need neutrals because I had been in pronators before and they severely hurt my feet. They still began to bring me boxes of stability shoes. They weren't listening an they weren't educated. Also, be prepared for them to up sell you on EVERYTHING! $79 insoles a $20 1 year membership. She wanted me to try on the shoes with their socks even though I brought my running socks with me. Also they gave us a foot massager to try, $25. All I can say is I hated my experience there and will never go back. Just go to Foot Traffic instead where all of the sales people are friendly and down to earth and they know what they are talking about. read more

I am a new customer to RR and I am mixed on how I feel about them. I arrived right at 10 am when they opened to avoid long waits. I was immediately greeted and taken to the evaluation area. Steph measured my feet for length and width, then had me stand on a mat that measured my arches, pressure and balance. I was able to see that I carry weight on my right foot, I have high arches and most pressure is on the pads of my feet. I was recorded running on a treadmill barefoot to see how I run. I felt like I wasn't running normally...paranoid I would slip or something so hopefully that didn't impact the evaluation to much. During this process they created custom insoles for me.,,,WITHOUT telling me about the cost for them ($79). I was prepared for the cost of shoes, but because they didn't inform me about the cost of the insoles, I assumed they were part of the package (being how the shoes were more expensive). Once the evaluation was done and we discussed the results Steph relayed the information to Dakota. Now, I told them my price range was around $100 and so he brought out "last years models" which were around $107 and primarily different colors....which was fine. I was able to find a shoe from Saucony that felt amazing...that's when I discovered that insole cost on top of the shoe cost. This was shady and unprofessional ....which is why the rating is so low. I decided to buy the insoles because they can be used in any shoe and would provide me for relief and support in my current training for the Shamrock Run in March. This allowing me time to save up more money and go back to potentially buy the quality running shoe. After I was done, I went back to my town (McMinnville) and stopped by Famous Footwear to check out some shoes for work to go along with my new insoles. I found the exact same style shoe from RoadRunners....for $39! I was shocked to see such a large price difference, but I suppose it's to pay for the evaluation. On a customer service level, when I was working with the people individually they were great. Attentive and focused. However, when Steph and Dakota were together in the shoe trying on area with me....I didn't exist. They carried on a private conversation and while Dakota did swap the insoles out in the shoes....his attention was elsewhere while Steph was there. I did accept the membership because it was for $1.99, but will most likely not renew it. We will see how this year goes. read more

Walking into to Road Runner I was a bit skeptical of there program to figure out what type of running shoes you need but I figured I'd give it a shot and see what they said. Having studied gait analysis and foot biomechanics in chiropractic school I generally knew what I needed so I thought I'd see how their system worked. Overall I was impressed, for people who don't have formal training they knew the type of shoe I needed and pointed out all the correct things about my gait as they watched me running. You might pay a bit more than if you just went to the Nike outlet and bought some shoes but they know what they're talking about and are more than willing to help. And to help save some money their membership which is $20 for a year ended up saving me about $100 because you get at least 10% of all purchases. read more
