There is no better recommendation than witnessing the work that a stylist does on someone else. My hair stylist went into labor early and I was in desperate need of a cut/color before a wedding I was attending. I asked my friend who she goes to as I loved her cut and she mentioned Kevin Michael Salon. On a whim, Kevin had a cancellation that day and I took it and the rest is history. I asked for a bob haircut and brought a photo of the style and angle desired. I specifically said I did not want a Victoria Beckham-style A-line bob. The stylist understood and confirmed being able to do it, but I ended up with a "Pob" anyway. Boo. In the meanwhile, the stylist asked the owner an innocent question about stock on hand and he replied in a snarky, belittling manner. At the end, when I saw the cut was exactly what I asked NOT for, I didn't feel at all comfortable either having the stylist continue to cut on it anymore to fix it or dealing with what appeared to be a rather cattish owner. My former stylist retired for health reasons after cutting my hair for over 20 years. I never thought it would be a problem - thought my hair was very easy to cut - it had never been a problem before. Two bad haircuts later, I realized maybe it wasn't so simple after all. I had my first appointment yesterday with Kelli. My initial impression of the salon is a clean, warm, welcoming and professional salon. Kelli was attentive, listened to what style I was going for, and made suggestions. She gave me a lovely massage during the shampoo and gave me a scissors, scissor over comb and razor cut. She is very precise and really knows how to cut hair. I am very picky about my hair and I came out of the shop completely satisfied and highly recommend Kevin Michael Salon to anyone who wants a fun and professional shop to use. Kelli and Kevin have a great time together, there was a lot of laughter and joking and the whole experience was positive. The Kevin Michael Salon is the only place in town to get your hair done. Kevin has been doing my hair for about 10 years and he keeps it current and fresh each time. He is an outstanding hair stylist and colorist! I have never left the salon unhappy. Kelly is also a super talented stylist and colorist and does my daughter's hair while Kevin does my hair. Both my daughter and I have super challenging hair (a lot of it) and we have never felt like a burden to Kevin and Kelly. Together Kevin and Kelly make everyone feel super welcome, loved, and beautiful. We are welcomed with a hug and tons of laughter. I am so appreciative of the relaxed and fun environment. After just 2 visits with Kevin I'm convinced he's a walking, talking hair genius! I have very curly, frizzy hair with hard to cover grey that I have tried to manage myself with home coloring kits. I was a hot mess!! On my first visit with Kevin he gave me an awesome hair cut and talked to me about my color and a straightening treatment. I have been hesitant about straightening treatments because honestly I really just try not to anger the beast this is my hair! I bit the bullet and set up an appointment for coloring and straightening. Something about Kevin made me feel like 1. he knows what he's talking about and 2. he wouldn't set me up for failure. Sure enough I now have gorgeously colored and straight hair for the first time in years! He is a true southern gentleman with a great sense of humor and sense of what his client needs. I decided that I was going to give the KMS a try. My daughter wanted to get some highlights in her hair. I was a little hesitate since she is younger but decided that I would go ahead and give it a go. We had Kurtis. He was so awesome. He asked a lot of questions and wanted to get a full understanding of the color and cut that my daughter wanted. I have never been to a salon that had an in dept consultation as this one. He wanted to make sure that my daughter (and I) got exactly what we wanted. The whole time he was doing her hair, he spoke to her and didnt have any side conversations with any other stylists. The other stylists were just a awesome! They all made us feel like we have been going there for years. I have never gone to a better salon! Everyone is super friendly and unpretentious and fun. I have been lucky enough to have Kevin as my hair stylist for over four years. He is amazing. He is good at making suggestions and guiding me to the best decisions regarding my hair. My current hair cut and color is the most comfortable style I have ever had. I have also watched as Elly, Brett, Summer and Seth have worked and they are equally wonderful. My daughter loves to get her hair blown out by Seth - and he has the patience to deal with even her super tangled 9 year old head of hair. If there were 10 stars, I'd gladly give them to KMS!!! Although we live in Los Angeles, as a busy executive mommy I rarely have time to care for my hair properly; so when I learned I would be in Sac for the better part of a week for a business trip, i asked a trusted local friend (whose hair is always impeccable) for a referral. She graciously obliged and arranged a visit with KM. But i unexpectedly had to bring my six year old son on the trip. When we walked in, Kevin and his staff were beyond gracious, inviting, funny and confidence-inspiring - when my son expressed anxiety about how short Kevin might cut my hair (he has a long hair thing, long story), Kevin was so amazingly compassionate and gentle and integrated Kenji into the consultation, explaining why he needed to cut off the damage and how he would take care of Mommy's hair without leaving it too short, and making sure my son was OK with what he was doing. By the end of the visit, Kevin's assistant Leah had given my son's hair a wonderful new cut, and i was entirely made over - cut, color, treatment - all in a style that suited my lifestyle and needs. We left the salon and made a beeline to the airport to return to Los Angeles, walking on a cloud. I have visited many hip, pricey salons in Pasadena and Hollywood and have NEVER been as satisfied with the results as I was with Kevin's work. Yes, I'll be flying to Sacramento for hair care. No, i don't care if that sounds diva-ish. Kevin is WORTH IT AND MORE!! And the personal attention and atmosphere he creates is beyond compare. A few years ago I had a horrible hair experience (I won't go into that now, but trust me EEK!) I called my daughter and said "call all your friends, people you work with, everyone you know and find the best hairstylist in Sacramento for me,TODAY" A while later she called back with a telephone number and said her boss said this guy is great. It was after 7pm on a Friday night but I thought what the heck, they might be open. Kevin answered the phone and after talking with me for a few minutes he said "you sound like you have a hair emergency" then he said "I am not in the shop, this is my cell phone, I usually book 6 weeks in advance but if you come in first thing tomorrow I will work you in somehow" AND that is how I found the best hairstylist in Sacramento. Still going, love everything he does, absolutely would not go anywhere else. He is not only wonderful with my hair, he is a wonderful person, easy to be around and funny, he always lifts my spirits.
