I stopped in recently because on my list of "must do's" while in Key West, was trying Key Lime pie. It's always been my mom's favorite and I had to see if it lived up to her expectations. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I was debating carrying a mini gf key lime pie home, but after discussing my options with them, realized it would be too long of a flight but they do offer shipping with dry ice so you don't have to stress getting it home safely; which is what I'll be doing for my mom's birthday. I did purchase the mini gluten free pie and it was delicious. It was not the brighter colored green that some people expect out of the pie; which I appreciated because I don't want added ingredients and colors in my food. The key lime flavor came through and the pie itself was a lighter fluffier texture which made it easier to justify eating the entire thing. WEAK CRUST... When you come to Key West there are a few things that are mandatory on the TO DO LIST...and one is key lime pie with some shops even going as far as labeling their pies World Famous. Strangely, I have been coming to the Keys for over 40 years and have never had a key lime pie. This shop had key lime pie in a plastic cup for easy eating on the go. The shop allowed customers to view the very clean kitchen while they ate the pies. We came with a bunch of people and ordered a few key lime pies and we dug in. THE RESULTS ARE IN: Creamy with a nice sweet key lime taste but at the very bottom was the graham crackers crust (i hope it was) but was very thinly grinded the texture was not what I expected - just a big disappointment but maybe the full pies are better, but i assume the same ingredients. Stopped into the shop for a slice of key lime pie after a bike tour. The shop was pretty busy due to a pie-making class, but my group was still able to find space in the back to stand and enjoy our slices. The pie leaned more on the tart side for my taste. Though I had my doubts from the name and branding, this was one of the memorable key lime pies I had on my vacation. Glad it lived up to the name! I'm not knocking the name, but when you're traveling to a new city, it's tough to differentiate the thrills from the frills. Hell, I live in Denver, and so many things are named Rocky Mountain this and Mile High that. Every city has their thing! Store itself is clean and comfortable. It's a grab and go type of place, but plenty of seating if you can't contain your key lime pie urges. Guess which camp we were in, haha. YEP, we ate it there. Now my doubts came when I saw the pie was chilled. You can even see a little icy sparkle from my pics. Presentation wise, there's no meringue. I personally like the texture meringue brings. And since it was cold, it ate moreso like a cake than what I've come to expect from key lime pie. Having said all that, this was a delicious slice! It had a cheesecake type consistency and texture to it. It was limey, refreshing, and each bite kept me wanting to go back in for another bite! Incredibly poor customer service. I walked in and there were 3 workers. One was handling beignet dough, one was cutting cardboard boxes, and a third was behind the register on a phone call. All 3 made eye contact with us. The one handling dough - totally reasonable for her to continue doing what she is doing. The one cutting cardboard tells the one working dough "she sees them and is just going to keep talking on the phone" rather than putting the cardboard down and taking our order. There were no other customers in the restaurant, so no their being busy on other orders is not a plausible explanation.. We stood there for over 2 minutes just waiting for the one cutting cardboard to step up and take an order rather than continuing to criticize the 3rd worker for not doing the same. read more

We went to the Key West Key Like Pie Company because Skipper from Hemingway recommended it and if I am visiting a city and a local who has already introduced me to something fantastic recommends a stop, I am going to go. Had to try the key lime pie. I wanted a small pie of the extra tart lime pie, but it was not available. So I got the small regular key lime pie. This was good but way too sweet for me so we didn't end up finishing much of it. It was toward the end of the day so the person at the cash registered must have been tired because she was abrupt and condescending with me when I asked about the small pie for the extra tart/lime version. Key Lime pie is something you have to get while in Key West so this was one of the first and primary things I kept talking about on our drive here. The pie was tart and sweet but wasn't exactly what I was expecting so I didn't love it - didn't hate it - but it wasn't the best Key Lime I've ever had.
