I have been a patient at Key West Vets and Pets, with my cat since 2018. This Winter my cat, was gravely ill and I thought we were going to be putting him to sleep. I took cat for bloodwork and NEVER RECEIVED THE BLOOD RESULTS. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Dr Tom at Key West Vets and Pets, twice and went into the White Street office on one occasion to be told by the secretary Mickey, a different vet (who was not involved in the cats visit and we had not ever met since becoming a patient in 2018) had given me the blood results over the phone and that was the end of the story.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I asked Mickey to confirm my cell phone number and told her I had not spoken to anyone regarding the cats blood work results.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I never spoke to this other, fictitious veterinarian and can prove it through my Verizon call log. I re-requested to Mickey, for the blood test results on three separate occasions totaling over $550 and NEVER RECEIVED THE RESULTS. DO NOT EVER PAY CASH TO THIS BUSINESS. DR TOM AND MICKY (secretary) ARE SCAM ARTISTS. I would give a score of ZERO if possible!! Very sad people like this exist in this world to take advantage of sick animals and their caring owners; that are strapped for money on higher food and gas prices. He went in there because he had fallen and couldn't walk on one of his feet so they were taking xrays. They xrayed his hip???? Because of his age??? He was 6 at the time. Said he just had old dog things going on. I paid an arm and a leg for these xrays Went to my new vet almost a year later and they found out that he had broken his foot in the past!!! He was walking around on his broken foot for almost a year because this vet told me everything was ok!!!! It healed crooked cuz it wasn't taken care of. Dr Householder is a wonderful vet. His staff is top notch. Been using him now for 5 years. FYI there is a crazy person who is writing bad reviews under different names . He is blaming Dr Householder for not keeping his dog alive indefinitely . Because of this you need to use your own opinion. This guy even approached me in Home Depot cause i had my dog with me and wanted to make sure I knew his whole story. They got us in so quickly and took really good care of our little yellow lab who got a bacterial infection in her stomach. My family and I were in Key West for a three day stay, and needed a nice place for our pooch to go for day care. He was not in need of medical attention, just a friendly place to stay. The staff (forgive me for not remembering names, I'm terrible that way, forgive me!) was super sweet, and they were able to have Cooper. The care and attention he received was the best, and he's not a patient. You could tell he had a great time, and had made friends (he didn't want to leave!!). I'd go back to them in a heartbeat if we lived on Key West. When we come back, we'll definitely bring him for a visit. Thank you so much for taking such great care of our boy! read more

She is very anxious at the vet and I made them aware of that over the phone, beforehand.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I initially noticed their rough handling with other big dogs when I walked in. I just had to get a health certificate so figured I'd be in and out. My appointment was at 11am and I didn't leave until 5pm. I understand getting behind on appointments but it was pretty ridiculous. When we finally went to the back I stayed with my pet thankfully. She is a small Chihuahua mix and they were pretty rough with her, unnecessarily shoving her around on the table. Her whole body was shaking. They also had like three dogs just roaming around the exam area. One a big German shepherd. I saw him coming up to the table where my pet was and mentioned she's nervous and may not react well to the big dog at the moment. The vet shoved my dog's face into the face of the bigger dog(as she's shaking in fear) and just said it's good for her! I didn't even know what to say and just wanted to get out of there. If you have a pet that is nervous at the vet I would absolutely go somewhere else. They won't respect your pets comfort. Poor baby is probably going to be more traumatized/anxious going to the vet now. Couldn't really believe this place is open in Key West, where peoples pets are their babies! read more

Thank God this place was here! We were visiting from Miami on vacation and the first day at the beach our dog ate a bunch of sand! He was vomiting everywhere, couldn't eat, couldn't poop! We almost had to cut him open to sift the sand out of his intestines but our extremely helpful Dr. Marks stayed over time to try every holistic Avenue possible to save our dog ! Mickey was in the front desk walking me through this horrific experience every day for three days and made this whole thing so much more palatable than it would have been. Tears rolled down my face when the Dr. said he found a way to relieve him of all the sand stuck in his stomach and we wouldn't have to slice him open. He's now happy, healthy, and we are headed home with our dog in one piece!!! thank you guys so much for saving our baby!!! We can't thank you enough!!! read more

I had been looking for a vet in town as I had been using a vet further up the keys. I had heard great things about Key West Vets and Pets so I made the change. I am so happy that I did! From the first visit to the last, we had a great experience. Micky the office manager/ vet assistant was fantastic! She explained everything fully to me about Bella's surgery in a kind compassionate manner, answered all my questions and I never felt rushed in any of her appointments. She is very good about calming the dogs down as well as the owners! Lol! She truly has a gift. Dr. Tom did a great job, Bella's incisions have totally healed, and I can barely see the scars! John was very kind and soothing when interacting with Bella and so gentle when lifting her on and off the table, even putting her into my car after her surgery, Alex was also very kind and good at his job as well. Avoid. Go elsewhere. Not trustworthy. Record keeping system is poor and non-existent. My 2 dogs were late on vaccines and got vaccines when they weren't due. I brought very detailed prior vet records to the office when I moved here. This office failed to ever update my pet records in their system. For 7 months I repeatedly asked at visits if pets were up to date, is anything due, what is status. I keep all records, but a vet should have the history and know what pet is due and when. In checking my records lacking confidence in them, I discover both dogs were overdue for vaccines! One dog got a vaccine by them they were not due for-- did it just get recorded in the wrong dog's chart??or did the vet give the wrong vaccine and double dose my dog? I'll never know. Unacceptable. Office staff accepts no responsibility for record keeping and is inconsiderate. Office consistently runs an hour late on appointments. They do not give out rabies tags here! Some story about them not getting the tags but you could try to get one yourself. Outrageous. I did not allow them to give the vaccine without a tag. (Called another vet and yes of course we have tags!) I was in tears in their office over how poor they have treated me and my dogs. Not one apology was ever given. Just an excuse that other vets records can be confusing. Really, isn't this your business? I am taking my dogs to another vet. I will never recommend Key West Vets and Pets and you should never take a pet there. Ever. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!! I never leave bad reviews but this place is a health hazard to all animals!! Please steer clear if you love your pet! The receptionist can't even remember to write down the appointments she makes. After I showed her my phone she responded "oh wow yep that is our number. It must've been me you talked to since I'm the only one here." Come to find out she's done it to multiple people. They don't care about your animal they just want your money. Again STAY AWAY! To respond the "receptions" comment below; I was referring to my first appointment with you. After speaking out about this "clinic", two separate people told me they had the same exact experience with you. Review your footage more throughly before verbal assaulting me in a pet store (which is also on footage). While I was there the second time you told me to leave right now or leave a review. After I already had to restart your scale, zero it out, & weigh my own dog. I said if that's what you want me to do before checking on my dog then that's what I will do. You started yelling to get out & you didn't care about any review I had to offer. Then as walking out I loudly stated that I wish the man who posted his van in front of your "clinic" that had a sign saying you killed his dog, stayed there. I also said that I hope that you get shut down before hurting anyone else's pet. It seems the only way to get places like this shut down is word of mouth. Very impressed by service. Needed to get a feral cat seen that had a upper respiratory symptoms. They were able to get us in the next day. I was delighted in the compassion that they expressed to this cat. The exam was very detailed and the vet was very good at explaining things to us. I have been to many vets on the Island and if I had a family pet they would be my go to vet! Highly recommend them. read more

Unfortunately there are no options for zero stars. Our dog is like our child. We just moved to Key West and we were in need of a vet for our dog. It started off well, the nurses and front desk were kind. On the other hand, the doctor (veterinarian) was cold, unhelpful, and seemed more interested in how much money he could rack up on a bill than our dog being sick. In fact, he handed us a bill and monthly follow up visits before even examining her. He wasn't available to answer our questions and seemed completely aloof. I thought people became veterinarians for the love and well being of animals, not to treat animals and their owners like scum. i took my dog Bonita ( the "Islamphobic doggie" ) here as "dr. Doug" Mater who really cares about animals and really has the only 24 hour animal hospital in keys said he recommended . the vet found a second tumor and removed it with out charge . i also noticed a photo of his son serving our country i asked him about and i am appreciative of , if it were not for our HONORABLE ( key word )MILITARY members we would have none of these freedoms/ safety and rights . read more

While on vacation with our Emma she started peeing blood. We called the closest vet near us. They got us right in that afternoon. All the staff was so friendly and they were very thorough on checking her out and giving us all the options for treatment. After a day of antibiotics she started feeling better and no more blood in her urine. Would definitely use them as our local vet if we lived here. read more

We've been here twice and both times we had an appointment and when we arrived we weren't seen till about 30 minutes after our appointment time. We made a third appointment for a weekend and they were closed that weekend and we didn't know until we went there at our designated time. Never received a phone call letting us know or to ask us to reschedule. They don't seem to be worried about anyone else's time but their own. On the plus side, when we did finally get seen at our appointments they were quick and to the point. Answered any questions we had and away we went. They even gave us a form that told us exactly what our next appointment were for and what they were going to do at the next scheduled appointment. So, don't expect to be seen right at your appointed time and if you schedule an appointment on a weekend and they decide to close don't expect a courtesy call to let you know or to be asked to reschedule. read more

I only have good thinks to say, he saved my dogs life. We found a lump and within a days he operated and was very accompanied as the tumor was in the glands. He worked with us because she needed extra care because of the location of the tumor and it had to drain. I totally trust him with my dogs. I came to Key West a few years ago and brought my very elderly chi, Pomeranian and Dalmatian to this clinic in search for a new vet. Micky at the desk has always been able to work with my very busy work schedule when I called ahead. She is sweet and handled my billing professionally explaining the charges. The vet including his relief vet have been great and his vet techs obviously cared for the pets they treated. Best Vet on the island. We have lived here 17 years and it is so nice to finally have a vet close by that is so wonderful. The drive to Marathon can be taxing. Dr. Householder and his staff have been so great. Even came to my house the day they met me when we had to make the tough decision regarding our 17 year old baby. Dr. Tom is a self centered, egotistical, bully. His bedside manner is possibly the worst that I have ever seen in a professional. Money seems to be his driver, not his love for animals. To his credit, he properly diagnosed my dog when another failed to do so and is a good vet when you can get his attention. However, after billing me over $700 for his services, he quoted me $2000 for a surgery that was performed at another location for $750. When I went to the other vet, he got very annoyed and lied on a statement regarding my dogs condition. The staff, on the other hand, were extremely pleasant and always helpful to the extent possible. read more

Where to start.... My dog wasn't feeling well so I took her to see Dr Householder. The vet gave my dog fluids and sent her home with nausea pills. I was told if my dog needed more fluids to bring her back in at no charge for the fluids. They neglected to tell me about the Dr visit fee though. The following day my dog was still throwing up so I returned to Dr Householder and he gave her more fluids and a nausea shot. I was told I no longer needed the $80 pills for nausea I bought the day before. The next day (day 3) she now wasn't eating. Dr Householder took X-rays and told me that something was in her stomach and she needed to go to Marathon immediately for potential surgery. The Dr never showed me the X-rays. When I arrived in Marathon I was told that the X-rays that were just taken an hour and a half ago were not visible and the quality was that of a poorly scanned image and new X-rays would have to be taken. Dr Householder charged over 200 dollars for two X-rays and when I called and said the X-rays were not visible and useless I was told I'm being rude and that I was insulting Vets and Pets for asking for a refund. In the three days in a row of going to vets and pets I quickly racked up a $700 bill with zero accurate diagnosis. Please don't bring any of your beloved pets to this vet. It might be convenient but that is truly all they offer. The Dr is money hungry and his knowledge is sketchy at best. The older lady who helps (nicki) has zero customer service skills and I feel sorry for the young girl who works there. Get out while you can!! To give you an idea of their character, I received a letter in the mail stating that vets and pets will no longer be accepting my dog as a patient. Along with the letter was my dogs medical records but odd enough that the X-rays weren't included. I saw the X-rays at the vet in Marathon and they are badly distorted and black. Garbage!! I only started a yelp so I could leave a review. I've spent close to $1000 dollars on an ear infection and he has no idea what's wrong can't figure something out yet every time I go continues to charge for an ear flush just to add $25 dollars yet he tells us we shouldn't put anything in her ears. My dog has been In pain and suffering for months now with no relief. Just had her in there and he said he was going to call around and find another type of Medicine and call me back and let me know. I have a 3 year old German Shepherd and I brought her in to get a certificate to travel. I normally go to All Animal Clinic but they weren't able to get me an appointment in time. First when I got there I waited at the window for 20 mins before giving up and sitting down in the waiting room. After about 5 mins of sitting they yelled "who do we have out there!?" Instead of popping there head to the window. I waited in the waiting room for over an hour while they chatted with the other patient (which I had no problem with). When they finally got me back there the vet is yelling from the other room telling the nurse/tech that he doesn't want her to use that computer cause he had more patients to see and some other things. He came into the room, listened to her heart and said "k I'll sign her paper- please wait in the waiting room." When I told him I had a question about her anxiety he turned around whilst rolling his eyes asking what I needed. I told him about her separation anxiety and he said "so what you want some pills for her?" This horror story of his attitude continued and he payed little mind to her. I'm also not sure he smiled once. So for my hour plus in the waiting room and my 5 mins in the exam room I got a bill of $116. Yep. Over a $116 for the vet to listen to her heart and sign a piece of paper. I'll never go there again. Instead I will stick with All Animal Clinic where I am never disappointed or disrespected. read more

This 'doctor' told me my 18 year old cat needed to have her one remaining tooth removed, very risky for a senior cat. I took her to 3 other vets who as I suspected said the tooth was fine. When I asked for copy of blood tests he did I received a barely legible copy; after insisting on another copy I could see these weren't my cat's numbers because if they were she would barely be alive. When I asked him about it he said 'It was an old cat'. Very odd that there is no medical school history or much history at all on his website or available at all. Another friend had a much worse experience, she lost her cat. He said the cat needed to be euthanized immediately (what?) and before my friend even knew it her cat was gone. Heartbreaking. All very scary. Stay away. My cat by the way is doing well thanks to the care of a good vet. read more

It is true that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. So it seems the negative reviews get the most attention. For all the clients, less than 1% are unhappy. Businesses can't pay to have or petition Yelp to remove negative reviews, that is true, but it does allow for a rebuttal. To address Drew B.'s review: The anti-nausea meds cost less than $11.00, not $80.00. She was told her dog MIGHT have an obstruction. After taking x-rays of the stomach and intestines, it could not be absolutely determined if there was or not. The x-rays cost $180.00, NOT over $200 as she writes. She was referred to a vet in Marathon who has on site diagnostic equipment, and if the dog required exploratory surgery, they could hospitalize the dog. That vet advised her the x-rays e-mailed to them did not show the esophagus and asked to take an image of that area. Ms. B. called KWV&Ps and immediately began yelling at me, "the older lady." I held the phone away from my ear and the others in the room heard her also. She demanded a refund. She quoted the other vet as telling her the images were unreadable. I immediately reviewed her x-rays and could see the images were clear. I advised her I would call the other vet for clarification. The two doctors spoke with each other, then I spoke to the Marathon vet. He told me there was nothing wrong with the images we sent, they just did not cover the esophagus and Ms. B. should not have demanded a refund. She claims over the course of 3 days, we charged her $700 when it was actually about $550. She claims I have no customer service skills. To the contrary, I believe in giving the best customer service to everyone. I also firmly believe in standing my ground and will not tolerate abusive people. I told her I was offended by her yelling at me. So here we are, everything I have posted can be supported by documentation. Yes, SHE, as the client, was deferred to another vet of her choice because she is hostile and verbally abusive toward the staff. If the next vet requests the x-rays, we will send them. If she knew what she was asking, she would realize digital x-rays cannot clearly be printed on a low resolution ink jet printer. The doctor tries to keep his prices low, knowing the cost of existing in Paradise is expensive. But he also has rent, operating costs and medications he has to pay for. You, as the client, have to decide where to take your pet, but please make an educated choice and not one based on exaggerated claims. read more
