We are here for several months and Sami needed his allergy vaccine. I looked at the reviews and then met an owner who highly recommended the practice so I made an appointment. The staff was over the top friendly and welcoming. Dr. Marty was so thorough asking questions and reviewing the records I brought for him. His tech, Sammie (sp?) was very nice and we loved her name. I also had his anal glands expressed and that too was done by a very nice tech. I wish I would have asked for everyone's names to give them the credit they deserve. Mary makes the appointments and she and her front desk colleague are very accommodating and nice! I'm interested in relocating back to Key West and when I do this will be our vet team hands down!!! We were from out of town and needed our sick dog, Sunny to be seen that day. We were welcomed by all the staff and Sunny was immediately admitted for observation and testing. After staying there about three hours for bloodwork, X-rays, fluids and observation, the Dr. called and said that it was nothing serious which was a huge relief for us. She was discharged on medications and able to go home. The office continued to call and follow up on her over the next few days. We made an emergency appointment and the staff couldn't have been any nicer. Thank you so much for being so kind and warm to my mom and I. Love Dr McGuire. He comes up with practical solutions that work and isn't just looking to drain your wallet. But the staff needs to learn a little about customer care and to toughen up a little. So I live part time in Key West and I take all my dogs here when I'm in town. But I was traveling north 6 months ago when my 2 year old pup had several seizures. Needless to say I was a little over wrought with what has happening. I called them three times trying to get info and help and apparently that makes me a mean customer. Except I had no idea that I had offended anyone in the office until I called back today with another emergency. Found out I was blacklisted from his office and the help seemed to take pleasure in telling me so...in my moment of need! Plus as I was trying to get an explanation about how I offended them one of the women threatened to hang up on me. Asking questions is a bad thing! Seems like they're looking to be offended or they'd have said something when the intial "incident" occurred. I brought my dog into the clinic, he wasn't feeling well, his tongue was white breathing distressed. The desk girls were so worried about leaving at 2 pm that they disregarded the emergency. I had to drive all the way to Marathon by the time I got there my dog was turning purple. Thank you so much for your compassion to my pet. He passed away maybe you would not have been able to save him but you sure of hell could have helped him and my family. You Suck!!! And should not be in the business! I love this vet clinic. Great staff, clean, the best non military vet I have taken my dog to. They offer military discounts for active duty members. My dog got fixed there and they did a great job. They are reasonably priced and the only location "on" the island I would take my pet to. No boarding available, call Pampered Pet for this service. While visiting, our dog aggravated a previous back injury and was in pain. The folks here managed to get us in same day, which was super. Dr. McGuire did a thorough examination and prescribed some meds that helped immediately. This was a total great experience here. read more

It seems that this clinic does well for planned visits, but if you have a pet that may get into an emergency situation, you may want to reconsider having them as your primary or at least have a backup lined up in case of an emergency. We've taken our dogs here a few times for checkups--staff and Dr. are friendly, facilities are nice. We had an emergency situation around noon last Monday (read: normal business hours) and when we loaded our dog up into our car and were on our way, we called to give a heads up. We were put on hold when we said it's an emergency, then when the person came back to they phone they said that the Dr was in a meeting and had appointments and to turn around and go home. When I reiterated the fact this was an emergency situation, we were told to go to Marathon Veterinary Hospital. They said they would not see our dog and her last words when we hung up were "good luck." Infuriating. We found a local vet that was willing to take him; We got him there within 10 minutes and his temp was 104.5 and rising. 104 is considered a fairly critical emergency temperature in dogs. I'm glad we won't know what it would have gotten to if we had to drive up from Key West to Marathon to have our dog looked at. We immediately switched vets. I called just to be sure and their official policy on the matter is if they are too busy, they should send issues up to the Marathon Veterinary Hospital. Friendly folks, decent facility, but if your pet may ever have an emergency situation, I suggest finding another vet with a better emergency policy. read more

I first want to say that Dr.Marty and staff are amazing. More than once they have either stayed over or came in at night for me. I wanted to address a certain reviewer who complained about his appt being given away. First off he said his dog had been sick for weeks so my question is, why wait so long. Second the fact that he seemed bothered by all the calls and he couldn't call back. Unless he's in the middle of performing brain surgery he could have called on a break or at home. Pretty sure he doesn't work 24/7. All he had to do was make a phone call. Yes marathon is an option if lower keys was booked. I know transportation can be an issue. I myself only had a bike but I had friends to help with that. Bottom line all it took was one phone call to confirm appt. Yes after not hearing anything his appt was given away to someone I'm pretty sure would drop everything to come in at any time. So the great thing about America is you can go to another clinic. I don't think lower keys will miss you. You won't find a more thorough Veterinarian than Dr. Marty. Lower Keys, keep doing what you're doing. You are the best. read more

Dr. Waddell and Heidi are wonderful. We had quite a scare with our English bulldog and took him to the clinic as an emergency walk in. This place, like most places in Key West, has terrible customer service. My dog was sick, and they said there are no appointments, and I would have to go to Marathon if I needed immediate service, so I made an appointment two weeks out. They then call me 3 times the day before, while I'm working, twice by someone named Jen to confirm, and a third one by Marianne saying they gave my appointment away, without giving me any adequate time to respond. I called them back at 345 PM (my appointment was at 2PM following day) and was told they gave it to someone else with a sick dog, when my dog was sick in the first place. They also never told me that if they don't reach me right away when they call, they will cancel my appointment, otherwise I would have given them my work phone. Bottom line is they can care less about you, your pet, or doing what's right like adhering to appointments. Instead someone who didn't wait now gets my spot, and they get paid no matter what so what do they care. I believe it was Marianne I talked to on phone who was super rude and said she didn't care that I was going to not recommend them and leave a bad review, so here it is. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. We came with an emergency, our dog injured her finger, was in pain and needed help immediately. The receptionist asked if we had an appointment which we obviously didn't (how can you have an appointment for an emergency?) She then told us to come back IN A WEEK because EVERYONE HAS AN EMERGENCY. Frankly speaking, this is the first time I've encountered a situation when a vet refuses emergency service. We went to another clinic where the staff was very caring and compassionate - the way it should be. We're not locals and I doubt that we'll be back in the area or let alone this clinic in the foreseeable future, but still it left a sour taste. Disappointed. read more

We brought our dog in for a simple spot and was put on antibiotics.. then taken off of them after less than a week and the spot turned into a huge open wound. Brought him in 4 different times for this and never got any real answer on what it might be, just guesses... bacteria or a very low possibility of fungal. Also not sure where Dr. McGuire went to school because we were told by him there is almost no way it was fungal because fungus doesn't grow in moist areas... which is precisely where fungal thrives.. Very disappointed in this practice felt like they were making guesses and not taking the problem seriously. Went up to Marathon hospital and it's much better.. Lower Keys will never get another dollar from our family. read more

I love Dr. Wadell and his staff. I have been going to this vet for four years with my furry friends. Recently my kitten died during surgery and as sad and unconsolable as I was they were wonderful. They came back after hours so that my daughter and I could say good bye to our kitty. I think Heidi cried as much as we did. They made efforts for us to find a new kitty and sent a heartfelt card. I took our Golden Retriever to this clinic as she was seeming ill during our month stay in the Keys. I was delighted with how we were treated the entire time. She needed her Anal Sac Expressed, something that she had never needed before. The doctor also took some time to talk to me about care of her ears while we were in the Keys. My wife and I recently relocated from Las Vegas and needed a new veterinarian for our dog. He acquired a tapeworm, which is common in Key West. The staff at LKAC couldn't have been more friendly. Dr Waddell is really nice, very experienced and knowledgeable. He spent a lot of time explaining his problem to us and how to avoid this problem in the future with preventative measures. We have been to clinics in the past where their goal is to run up the bill, unnecessarily. That is absolutely not the case here. Their charges are so reasonable and they only do what's necessary. I would 100% recommend this clinic. read more

My cat came down with an upper respitory while we were on vacation so we called around trying to find a vet who could fit our Katara in. The first couple places we called were booked up and unwilling to see her. We called here and he was willing to let us come sit in the waiting room and get "fit in" so she could be seen. We are so glad we took her in, she had a really high fever and needed antibodics. The vet is super nice and very caring. He will sit down and go over any concerns that you may have. Unlike the review above, I thought he gave a good exam, and I know if I had been concerned about something and asked he would have taken a second look, he just had that personality. It was also very reasonably priced, the entire exam with 2 different medications was only 100 dollars. There is also a very nice petstore next door with all kinds of speciality stuff... a nice treat for your sick pet. I would not hesitate to return to this vet for anything if I were ever in Key West again. The staff was also very caring and admiring of my cat. read more
