Very disappointing. We were served drinks by hostess. We waited about 10 minutes b4 our waitress came to take our order for a Friday fish fry. We were informed then there was no fish and there is no French fries! Really??? We did stay. Ordered two chix cordon bleu meals. Sour dough bread was served earlier. The bread served was the end piece, so dry and hard - inedible!! The chix was so tough and overcooked , no sauce could save it. Doesn't quite have the same "homey-Diner" feel as the other locations I have been to (St. Paul and Roseville), but I would go back. Not impressed with the Hudson branch of this restaurant chain. When a group of four of us came out for breakfast on Saturday, it took awhile for the waitress to take our order then it took a half hour to get our food. Then one omelet had egg shells in it and another was made incorrectly. When it came time for the bill the waitress had not split the bill, leaving us to sort it out. At the register, no one knew how to split a payment correctly resulting in the wrong payments going on the wrong cards and we then had to exchange cash between ourselves to straighten it out. The staff overall was friendly, but please have the properly trained people in place and enough people on staff to handle a typical Saturday morning crowd! read more

I wanted to love Keys after how much everyone talked it up, but sadly it didn't live up to the hype at all. I ordered biscuits and gravy. When our food came my entire plate was stone cold. The gravy started to coagulate and form a film on it from sitting around and cooling. I told them it was cold and they brought me a new one, which understandably takes time. By the time I got my new plate my entire family was done eating. I took two bites of the biscuits and gravy and it was just not good. The gravy tasted like they've had it sitting in pot back there waiting for some poor soul to order it. It really seemed like they put it on the plate and stuck it in the microwave. I would be surprised if the biscuits were fresh, because it sure didn't seem that way. The hash browns were SUPER under cooked. The top of them had some crips, but the rest was gummy and just not good at all. I didn't give the eggs a try. I just wanted to go. On our way out we did grab some pastries and those were delicious! That seems to be the thing they are doing right, the actual restaurant portion, a hard pass from me. The worst part was they took 15% off the one dish for it being sent back. That's not even worth it. That had to have been seriously like $1. It was laughable. I was considering ordering my wedding cake from them because the pastries were so delicious, but the food totally put me off. read more

This place has THE BEST chocolate cake and cupcakes that I've ever had, and I like to consider myself a cake connoisseur. I don't know what they put in it but it's honestly divine. This place is so good! The moment I walked in and got pleasantly greated by the hostess with a big smile I knew I was going to love the food. For those who enjoy a good eggs Benedict (and hate a not so good one), you will love breakfast at this place! Everything is made from scratch, from the french toast, down to the bread, down to the marmalade and jams. They have a wide selections of sweets and everything I tried there was very very good. Came into Keys this morning and was reminded of why I love this place so much. Was greeted as I walked in the door, my server was super nice and helpful as usual. The food was amazing, I've rarely had a bad experience. Although sometimes you may have to wait a little bit when they are busy, but it's worth it! Don't ever work for Keys Cafe in Hudson I am a former employee I got hired by the manager Mackenzie right away for dish washing part time and I was only there for a short while because the other employees were really rude to me this guy Randi came back there when I was washing dishes and he was really rude to me then this other lady was rude to me to.And today when I went to pick up my pay for while I was there I was expecting a check and they gave me money in an envelope instead and I didn't get paid what I thought I was was because I found out that they pay people who are just starting out there less than the other employees.I was only getting paid $6 per hour which is a joke and that's discrimination for paying people less because they have less experience so take my advice and don't ever work for keys cafe they are very rude and they discriminate. read more

Disappointing Catering Service I recently had Key's Cafe cater a wedding reception and was extremely disappointed. During the three weeks leading up to the reception, when trying to finalize details, it was difficult to impossible to get email / phone responses in a timely manner. As such, final details were not worked out until only a few days prior to the reception. Regarding the reception itself, the sad fact is we ran out of food even though we stressed to the person in charge, that under no circumstance did we want that to occur. Even after ordering food for 15 people more than expected, and after perhaps a dozen or so expected guests did not show up, the last 25 people or so had only one of the two entree choices remaining. Of those 25 people, half of them were served half portions of dinner just to get by. For anyone looking for a catering service, I recommend you look elsewhere read more

They can't cook an over medium egg and when you tell them they argue what over medium means and then bring you new eggs that are just as undercooked and argue again. On our way back from a family road trip, we stopped into Keys. Excellent breakfast. Homemade breads, biscuits, and desserts. I had the biscuits and gravy and it was very tasty. The worst restaurant experience I've had in a very long time. Waited 25 minutes for a table when we were told 10. When we asked, they said they had already called our name. Even though 0/7 in our party heard our name called, the manager blamed us rather than apologized. Worse, the bathroom was disgusting. 3 of us met at 10 am for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Yes, a busy time, but we got a table quickly and ordered our food. It took over 45 minutes for the food to come out. I asked to talk to the manager. She came out from a back room and basically said, "what do you expect for a Sunday morning? We are the number-one rated restaurant in the Twin Cities - so there....ya de ya-de yah...." She even challenged me on the time of our long wait for food. What I got was argument from an arrogant restaurant manager who couldn't even be out on the floor to run the place during a busy time. To make matters worse, one of our party is allergic to eggs and he ordered a veggie skillet specifically stating "allergy - no eggs". His skillet came out with eggs in it.. Got another argument. I've loved this place in the past. Really disappointed with our preordered cake this time. It was beautiful, but dry, dense and flavorless! The cake had been left out long enough without frosting that it began to dry out. Icing was great, however cake flour is different from regular flour and its used when baking a cake! $60! I have dined at this Keys location many times, and have never had a bad experience. The food is great and I guarantee will never leave unsatisfied! Everything in their menu is made from scratch, and let me tell you, it makes a big difference! On top of the amazing food, the atmosphere is unlike many restaurants I have seen. From their hosts to their servers, everyone is very happy and ready to help each other when it gets busy. It is truly a sight to see the teamwork these folks put forth. There's at least five open tables and people are still waiting in the lobby half an hour "because the kitchen needs to catch up". And then the "hostess" decided to cross our name off the wait list, and other waiting parties because there were TWO LISTS, confusing herself, all the while we're standing five feet away for the last now 45 minutes. And to top that all off, they have a person serving a tray of coffees to exasperated peeps waiting rather than helping out in the kitchen or clearing tables. WTH? read more

We have eaten at several of the Keys locations. We were always very pleased with the quality of the food and the service. Unfortunately we can't say the same about the Hudson location. During this 40 minutes we struggled to get more coffee and water. Once the food came 5 out of the 6 of us received our food. It took another 10 minutes for the last meal to come. We have been here a few times and the food is excellent. However, the service is subpar and I'm being generous. The last time we went, we stood at the front door waiting to be seated for 15 minutes and we were never even acknowledged by staff. They stood by the cash register and talked to each other, but never even said hello to us. After 15 minutes of this we left and went elsewhere. I was a server for many years, so I rarely leave bad reviews, but we have been there multiple times and have decided not to go back. We have continued to go there despite the poor service for the fantastic food, but we have hit our limit. Ok, here goes....i had been hearing so many positive remarks about Keys Cafe and Bakery, that i was really excited to try it for lunch one afternoon while i was i Hudson, Wi. What a disappointment! I ordered the chicken chili and was looking forward to having a nice, warm bowl of chili on a cold and windy Spring day...it was soooo salty! I had two tablespoons of it and decided to take the rest home to see if my husband would eat it-he didn't like it either! I also purchased some cookies to go-peanut butter chocolate chip and monster cookies. To my dismay, the peanut butter cookies tasted oily and rancid and the Monster cookies were stale. While i am willing to give this place another try, after visiting with other past patrons of this cafe, they have had similar experiences with their food as well. Went to Keys for lunch today and was unimpressed. My chicken dumpling soup came out luke warm and was soggy and gross. I couldn't even tell if the meat was in fact chicken. The rest of the food was okay but not good. The service was even worse than the cold unidentifiable meat soup. It took forever to be seated and not once were we asked how the food was. Needless to say we asked to have our sandwiches boxed and got out of there. Complete waste of money and overpriced as well. If your thinking of trying it you will be underwhelmed. read more

May 18, 2013 Just went the Keys Cafe in Hudson, Wi. Had a long wait for seating 15 to 20 minutes to be seated. Then we ordered our food within 5 minutes of being seated, 45 minutes later food had not arrived talked to server about long wait and was told we're busy. I mentioned that people that came in after us and after we ordered already had their food and one group had already left. I was then asked if I wanted to cancel the order there were 7 of us who came there because we've eaten there before and at several other Key locations and the service was good since we had waited that long I said I expected the food to be at the table in 10 minutes we had waited long enough food was served in about 5 minutes some was hot some was cold the attitude was bad and we will not be going back to that particular spot again. read more

Went there last night...was greeted by a guy who pointed to the booth where we were to sit. This was our first clue it was not going to be a good experience. He asked what we wanted to drink and brought it a while later. When our waitress finally came to take our order, she asked if we'd like a soda or something to drink....um...crickets chirping...we already had our water, chocolate milk and ice tea! So, she took our order and appeared to not be very familiar with the menu when we asked questions. I think we waited about 45 minutes on our food...when we finally got it, one of the orders had a hair in it! I bet we waited at least 10 minutes to get her attention so we could have the order remade. She explained that it would be a while since they made the hash browns from scratch...um, I'm thinking she meant they actually harvested the potatoes out back! We waited another 20 minutes for the order to be remade...all the while watching a young boy with long hair and a hat (which did nothing for sanitary purposes) and the waitresses running to and fro. We saw a couple who had to walk up to the counter to ask for their order to be taken since they had waited so long and a few people come in, wait to be seated and walk out without being greeted. We noticed at least 10 people going to the counter to pay, workers rushing past them without any explanation and wait...and wait...and wait until someone finally wanted to take their money. A girl with long hair finally came over to our table and said she had no idea how the hair got in the food. Gave the excuse that they were really busy with a party (about 8 people at a big table) and were short staffed. She asked if the person with the hairy entree would like a free dessert, she said no, I'd like my meal free! She did agree...I won't even go into the scene paying for our other meals...just know the four of us will not be going back. Very unclean and unprofessional! read more

Everything went well until after the cake tasting. Once Amy (the owner) had our money for our cake deposit, it was nearly impossible to get a hold of anyone at Keyes, let alone Amy. We resorted to emails to try and get anything done and Keyes still didn't update things correctly to our order. Three weeks prior, we paid the remaining balance due on our cake and checked in to make sure all was well with our order. Everything was "fine" and delivery was scheduled to our venue for 5:30pm on our wedding. Well... 6:00pm rolled around on the day of our wedding day and still no cake. Our wedding coordinator called Keyes to find out when the cake would arrive and that is when we found out that they had not baked our cake because they forgot. The owner was too concerned about her vacation the following day to stay organized enough to make sure our wedding cake was made and delivered. Luckily, they did throw another cake together along with some cupcakes and we ended up with something for our wedding. However, it was not what we ordered (it did taste delicious, we will give them that at least), and it was late. All would have been forgiven if we had at least gotten a sincere apology. However, Amy and the other manager could not even be bothered enough to even call us themselves and apologize for their mistake. We had to call them the next day, and they made us feel bad for being upset about them messing up our special day and acted like it was no big deal (excuse us, but it was our wedding day and it was a big deal). Keyes eventually did refund us, but the refund took almost 3 weeks to receive and could not be completed right away because Amy had to be in town to "oversee" the refund and could not empower her manager to take care of the customer. So, all in all, while the cake that ended up being made for our wedding tasted great, it was not worth the customer service experience and the hassle. We would not recommend Keyes Cafe in Hudson for a wedding. read more
