Nothing is better than hugging a friend you have not seen in a while. That's what walking into the lounge at West Wind Supper Club felt like; hugging an old friend. We were greeted by the sweet Caroline. She was spectacular and her demeanor was exactly what the ambiance called for; she was familiar with her customer base and her personality reflected such. West Wind has a nice atmosphere; loved the crackling fireplace and the comfy booth seating. They had a great Wednesday special, which was a 12" pizza with your choice of toppings and a 16 oz. beer or soda for only $12.00 and of course my husband jumped all over that! He said his pizza was really good. My niece had the chicken philly sandwich with french fries and she enjoyed hers, too. I was in the mood for pasta so I had the mushroom marsala pasta with chicken. I loved how flavorful the chicken was, and the sauce had a nice depth of flavor. They also gave me a nice hunk of bread on the side with a pat of butter but I kind of ignored it because of how yummy my entrée was. I knocked off one star due to service--we were there at 11:30 and there were only a couple other tables besides us and after we received our food the waitress disappeared. It's fine to leave people to enjoy their meals, but come on, at least make a pass or two by the table to ask about drink refills, inquire whether anyone wants dessert, or a to-go box. read more

They were not very busy as two waiters sat at the bar joking around. Kind of unprofessional ambience. The waitress talked to her manager and they would put another order in or take half off, and would we like to talk to the manager. We said sure.....the waitress came back and the meal was totally credited. 1. The food should have been hot 2. The bun should not have been dry and hard as a rock 3. The food was not prepared correctly. My grandmother's shrimp was over cooked. My steak had zero flavor. Took an hour and a half to get our meal. Had to ask the busser to bring out the rest of our tables food and drinks because our server kept forgetting. Server kept avoiding our table after the first hour went by with no main meal. Manger came to speak to us and offered to only take a percent off the bill. The manager was unapologetic and willing to let us walkout starving. When asked about the status of the food. The manager also just told us "I don't know what's going on back there.... Wouldn't that be your job? Maybe you should go find out what is going on and come to us with your solution. If the server forgot to put in our order then, apologize and comp the meal like a normal restaurant. This was probably the worst and most disappointing experience. read more

Oh my! I've always wanted to try West Wind Supper Club in River Falls, but we never had. After seeing everyone's pics we decided to try it (for takepitonight. So dang good! Sadly, I don't have pictures, but we shared a French dip (added peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese just because!), a twice baked potato and the risotto of the day which happened to be cranberry and walnut. Sounded different, but it was seriously among the best risotto I've ever had. We can't wait to go back! Updated: We were tired of our usual breakfast places and decided to try the West Wind. We ordered and shared the Southwest omelet with bacon, jalapeños, peppers, cojita cheese and guac. OMG. Hands down, my new favorite omelet of all time! This place is just right for River Falls WI! The menu is spot on as far as giving you a feel for the look and taste of the items on the menu. My friends and I were in town on business. I had the prime rib it was outstanding. The twice baked potato outstanding. The clam chowder very good. The au jus was perfectly flavored, as was the prime rib. Prime rib is my favorite simple food, that really is not simple at all. I was so happy with it. My friends got the portobello burger which is actually a portobello on a ground chuck burger he loved it he thought it was great. And the other guy got the salmon with the sauce whatever it was who cares I'm tired of writing everything was fantastic. I'm gonna throw on a couple pictures that I've done this was the best meal we've had in River Falls. West wind is a favorite when I'm back visiting friends. Recently enjoyed the Ahi tuna salad. The tuna was cooked (very lightly) to perfection, a portion that would pass as a solo entree back on the west coast at twice the price. An explosion of flavors were well a great value. Coupled with my favorite, Jamison rocks (VERY generous) made for an extremely satisfying meal. Ask about the specials, I've enjoyed on other trips, pizza or burgers and beer, wino Wednesday etc. and one of my favorites pulled pork nachos. You have not had them like this. Yum. I'm not sure what kind of management this restaurant has, but we tried to get a reservation the evening of July 3rd, then we're told "we don't take reservations, because there shouldn't be that many people there". Two hour wait for our meals, and the ambiance was awful due to a loud ass announcer during a bingo game. What kind of idiots plan for a bingo game at a damn supper club is beyond me, but... I've heard a lot of great things about Westwind, but have never been. As soon as we walked in, the hostess greeted us with a smile and we were seated within 5 minutes on a Friday night. which I was pleased with. It's been a long time since I had a waitress as good as the one we had. She checked in with us frequently, our drinks were never empty and she always greeted us with a smile and even knew how to make us laugh which isn't easy to do. Have been going there for several years and always had a great experience with the food and service. Went there to celebrate a special occasion, and was very disappointed with the food and some of the service. Our steaks had zero flavor, were barely warm, and one was half gristle. Lobster tail was over cooked and shrunk up (enough for four bites). Server did not come around until after we had eaten over half of our meals. We eventually were comped a free dessert and didn't have to pay for the lobster. No bread served with meals, either. Also the prices have gone WAY up since the pandemic. So very disappointed. No plans to return to what once was a fine restaurant. read more

Monday night buffet with the neighbor women, first time at West Wind. The place was packed but the service was top notch! Varied buffet, love that shrimp and all else was overshadowed by talking with this fun group. Got a taste of the meatloaf and even tho not a big meatloaf fan, I was salivating for more. Calls for another trip. This will be a regular haunt for sure. Monday night was also bingo and a fundraiser for youth hockey. This is a traditional Wisconsin supper club, reminiscent of the days of my youth in Wisconsin. The prices are reasonable and the service is consistently outstanding. The food is delicious. As a vegetarian, I would suggest keeping the buffet salad bar better stocked with a larger quantity of fruits like strawberries and blueberries, as well as larger quantities of shredded cheddar and lettuce. The quality of what's there is perfect! There's just not enough of these items to make it a full meal for someone who doesn't proceed down to the meat block... especially if there's more than one vegetarian in your party going through the line at the same time. :) We always have to ask a server to refill these items and there still seems to always be just be a tiny amount out there. We were at the West Wind last night for their Pizza Night dinner. We ordered a 12" pizza with 3 toppings and a 16 oz. glass of beer for $12.00. The pizza is a thin crust and it was very good. The staff is always very friendly and man that food comes out mighty quick. My glass always has some liquid in it and you can hang with some locals at the bar and have interesting conversations. To begin, we love this place which is why I felt compelled to write this review. We were sad to hear they had a fire in their kitchen but as one of our favorite places to visit we wanted support them and see how things were going. We were aware that they were only offering a buffet style meal until their kitchen is done but we truly went there expecting similar quality to what we have always experienced in the past. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We went on a Tuesday night for the burger/chicken buffet only to find tiny 1/4 pound burgers (if that) and dried out 4 oz. Chicken breasts. The entire buffet was no where close to the quality they should have been for the $20 price tag and honestly they just missed the mark on something that could have been so easy to hit and even exceed our expectations. I honestly have had better buffets at those nasty chain places for less price. We were all very disappointed. We truly hope this is not an indication of what the food quality will be after the fire as we would love to continue to call this one of our favorites. read more

Nice place to eat, nice staff but the food was underwhelming so we were disappointed. Had taco's and they were flavorless. Lots of pork, a little cheese and lettuce - no cilantro?? or anything else. There was a side of over whipped avocado passed off as guacamole - good guacamole needs some texture. A pineapple salsa and side of oil with some green in it. The place was very clean but my only complaint and reason I did not give 5 stars was that our waitress only wore her mask properly intermittently. Sometimes she had it under her nose or her chin. We are a little over an hour away, but went for Valentine's Prime Rib & Crab Legs Buffet. It was wonderful!! & The service was excellent!! Starting with the hostess, our waitress, & the carvers!! The bartenders must have been on their game too - the others at our table had drinks & they arrived promptly, & no complaints! & Don't forget the bussers & dishwashers - without them, it wouldn't go very smoothly!! Both food and service have improved significantly the last few months. As many have probably found it's harder to find restaurants that consistently have good food and service right now with the labor shortage. Made reservations for a Saturday night date night, arrived on time but when we walked in, no one greeted us for a solid 5 minutes. Once we were greeted, we were informed that dinner would be an hour wait but appetizers would be out right away......ok a little fishy but we were planning on ordering an app anyways. Our app came out within 10 minutes, a little cold but edible. We were chatting for a bit and looking over the vast open spacing that was West Winds and noticed a majority of the servers folding napkins and silverware. To our surprise here come our steaks not even 20 minutes after we ordered them, shocking I know as we were ready for an hour wait. But wait a second here, usually when you go to a nicer restaurant they bring the soup and salads out before the steaks, well not at West Wind's. Our steaks came out and then a minute or two later our soup and salad arrived, but that was enough time for us to figure out that one of our steaks was burnt and then burnt again, so since I was not looking to chew on some jerky I asked for another steak. The manager came around to apologize and did offer us free dessert which was nice but it did not improve our experience. This will be a one and done restaurant for us. read more

Stopped in for the Friday night fish dinner. It was supposed to be a 4 piece dinner and you could see where they had cut the pieces in half, I've never seen such small pieces of fish. The fish itself was just ok, the service wasn't all that great to match. The server was busy but she could have done a better job, she really seemed rude and impatient. The server seemed to make an effort at the end when it was time for the tip by mentioning her poor service to start off and wanted to make up for it with a free drink, I appreciated the effort but it was a bit late we were getting up to leave at that point. We left a 15% tip which I now regret. On the way out my wife forgot her to-go box, she realized before we had even gotten to the car, so she ran back. We are talking about 30 seconds and they had already tossed it out? You'd think they would have waited at least 2-3 mins, holly cow! I guess 15% tips are just not good enough anymore. Now keep in mind I gave them 2 stars, which isn't horrible, it is Meh... I've had better. Definitely not a 4-5 star place. I hate leaving bad reviews... but the tossing out of the meal in under 30 seconds flat was to much. read more

The West Wind is a staple here in River Falls, WI. They are the one of the only places in town your are garunteed good service, and good food. My favorite are their wonderful buffets. Their weekday lunch buffet is probably the best lunch you can get for less then $8 anywhere in WI. They usually have meatballs, roast beef, friend, or baked chicken, freshly made bread and all sorts of wonderful salads. They even have a punch card 10 lunches and the 11th is free. I have friends that like to go to the Friday night seafood buffet. You cannot beat that valua and quality of food anywhere. read more

In a word...bad. So bad. My wife and I wanted dessert after a night out and this place supposedly has lava cake. So we get seated, request the dessert menu and order two cappuccinos. They have a machine. A machine? At a "fine" restaurant, they don't make fresh espresso? Damn hick town. Anyway, our waitress then comes back and says the machine is broken so we order regular coffee. She comes back with two coffee mugs with coffee, cream and two sugars. Two. We request more sugar. So she comes back with more and water, of which she dumps on my lap and table. My pants are soaked. She apologizes and runs to get rags. After she cleans up, she gives us the dessert menus and that's the last we see of her. We were here a total of a half an hour. In that span we received one cup of coffee each, water spilled on me and a dessert menu of which we never got a chance to order from. After a half hour, I threw a five on the table and we left. I didn't mention that each hick and fat guy wearing a hat got the buffet so it wasn't that busy. I also didn't mention it was my birthday and my wife wanted to do something different. My only experience here so far was their Thanksgiving Buffet with my family but it was a decent experience. We arrived at our reservation time, but still had to wait over 30 minutes to get crushed into an overly crowded room where you bumped into everyone. The food however was fantastic! The turkey, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes were my absolute favorite. The meats were all sliced fresh. Roast beef and turkey were cooked to perfection. I am pretty sure I ate a mountain of mashed potatoes. The sage stuffing was so bland I didnt bother with more than a couple bites, which was really disappointing. The bread rolls were almost always out. My boyfriend wasnt even able to get any because it was empty as soon as the little bread holders were filled. The wait staff looked a little overwhelmed but honestly they brought their A game. I thought it was weird that such any establishment would make you buy a drink per can, but I was brought a single can of Dr Pepper. Overall, most of the food was delicious, but trying to even shift in your chair was difficult with how many people they stuffed into a single room.
