My friend ordered the kabob dinner and said it was good...but over $20 for some veggies is crazy. My gyro and truffle fries....honestly I should have just sent them back. This is one of the most disappointing meals I've had recently. They put a tomato paste on it that I almost requested without, but trusted it would be interesting. It literally tasted like cheap canned tomato paste. Gross and certainly doesn't blend well on a gyro. The lamb meat itself had a decent taste, but the way it is served makes it difficult to eat in a pita. Gyros are typically chopped or shaved lamb which makes it easier to eat and helps ensure you're getting more lamb per bite. Served in these strips, it was just falling apart and not blending with the feta. The fries...terrible. Just terrible. $6 to sub truffle fries which seems like too much but I hadn't had them in a long time so had to go for it. Listed in subs it simply says truffle fries, so I didn't know they were going to be covered in liquid cheese. They ARE listed in appetizers with the full description but I didn't look there until after bc I didn't order an appetizer. The cheese was awful, completely overwhelmed the TINY bit of truffle taste, and SO salty! Take a look at the picture and decide for yourself if the gyro and fries is worth $23. I eat a lot of gyros, and this being the most expensive one I've had is the worst. Heads up that they charge a service fee. Doesn't bother me as I always tip at least 20% but no one pointed that out and I'm not really sure what it's for. Does that go into the servers pocket or? Won't be going back to find out.

Second, the popcorn. The end. Now the bad news. Everything else. We are veterans restaurant/bar/cocktail lounge/ brewery patrons, so should've tuned into the fact that the place was empty at 7:30 even on a Tuesday night. My wife wanted a Chardonnay but was unfamiliar with one of them and asked for a taste. Seriously? What bartender sends a taste of wine in a shot glass with literally a quarter of that shot glass holding a "taste?" My wife had no idea what this wine was supposed to taste like so ordered a glass of Decoy, which was decent but quite overpriced. I ordered a Bellaire Brown out of the can which was cold & non-ruinable, thank God! We ordered a pizza with pepperoni, which used to be quite good here. Not anymore. As hard as it was to believe, in 8 slices there were NINE pieces of pepperoni. Total. We wondered if the kitchen was instructed to only use one piece per slice & maybe an extra one got slipped in by mistake. The pizza was undercooked, crust was tasteless, cheese bland, and sauce was not close to Italian. Maybe Contadina with a little oregano thrown into it. If you're a fan of Red Baron or other frozen pizza, stick to that because it's better. The best part of the pizza was the red pepper flakes we buried it with. I don't know if the new owners are cheap, unaware of why this place was once popular and populated, but we shan't be back soon. And from other recent reviews and the lack of crowd were not the only ones. Sad.

I lucked out with a fabulous server named James Brown (yes, really), who kept things smooth and upbeat. Now let's talk about the food. The crab cakes? Best ever. But the real surprise star was the brûléed lemon slice served with them--a simple lemon wedge, dusted with sugar and torched to golden perfection. I could've eaten a whole plate of just those lemons. The filet was cooked spot-on, super tender, and swimming in a ridiculously tasty Périgueux sauce--think madeira, truffle juice, maybe a little brown sugar, and whatever other magic goes into making something that good.

After sampling the King's Imperial Stout and Deez Nutz Brown Ale, I added a pint of the Deez Nutz to my meal after the Brimley. Had I sampled the King's Imperial Stout first, I would have ordered that, but it could be considered a meal in itself. It's that full. The Deez Nutz had excellent flavor and just a touch of effervescence making it a very nice Brown Ale. My wife had the chicken sandwich which was quite grisly on one end...disappointing. I had the Southern Comfort Chicken sandwich that was quite tasty. I also ordered the truffle Parmesan fries as an appetizer and while good, the quantity for $9 was disappointing. The regular fries and seasoned chips were very good. This is a brew pub of the typical flair with better beer than food. If we were to go again, I would order something different to give it a try. I thought the chips were a bit chewy (stale?) and the beer cheese was a notch above baseball concession stand nachos. I would have thought with the beer cheese we might have gotten a paper plate to eat over, but no. Instead, we simply put napkins on the table to drip over. Beer here was ho hum. I ended up with root beer because the beer selection wasn't my jam. Would I be back? Probably not, but the view really can't be beat by much.

We had to flag someone down who thought we sat ourselves and said we needed to see the hostess. Understandable if that had been the case, but since it wasn't I couldn't help but be curious....what was his plan, then? To just ignore us all night rather than let us know? From there a different server came out, apologized profusely (even though she had never walked by and ignored us like the other server) and our service was top notch. I wish I had her name bc she was fantastic! Hate to have to describe this way...but blonde waitress who worked on the patio this past Fri night...kudos! The NA options are phenomenal and I had a spicy something or other. Sooo good! Pizza was awesome! SO. MUCH. CHEESE! Cooked to perfection, right amount of crust. I was tempted to go back again on Saturday. Patio is fantastic, cozy and relaxing without being too chill. Only feedback then is to either put more signage up about seeing a hostess or remind servers to be kinder in reminding people bc ironically we saw multiple people that either did seat themselves or were confused on where the host stand was, and both servers and bartenders weren't particularly kind with their messaging. I can only assume they are tired of it bc it happens a lot, but saw a group that almost walked out due to feeling unwelcome when they asked the wrong person about a table. Not our server. She was the best. :)

Curds were enough for a table of four. Overall taste of the food, however, is average. Despite being a good looking B&B Burger, the bacon was burnt and the burger itself didn't have much seasoning. I expected to bite in tasting a medley of flavors, but each bite was just okay. Maybe if I had a yeasty beverage or two before eating, it might help raise my opinion? TABLE SERVICE: Waitresses were prompt and helpful. BARTENDERS: Remember those honey badger YouTube videos (narrated by Randall) from 2011/12? That's what I think of when I read Yelper reviews from Brittany H. and Jay V. [in the voice of Randall]: *Mitchell Street bartenders don't care; they do what they want!* For example, when the popular 80s song, Your Love by the Outfield, came on, the 'tender on duty decided to turn it up to 11...and left it there for half the song. Locals seemed unfazed, but visitors got to the point they asked the waitress if they could turn it down. I'm guessing he didn't much care for the feedback, because he then played the song twice more. *If you're up for a rowdy atmosphere with an array of local beverages + solid bar food, I encourage you to step into this windowless venue! If you're looking for a nice, sit down meal and great tasting main dishes (OR you're allergic to peanuts)...best walk to Tap 30 next door.
