Stepping inside was very clean, large dining area with plenty of seats, and great photos posted for visibility. It was very warm inside and stuffy so it might be better to take the meal to go and we noticed there was no rubbish available for us to toss our plates after we ate. Before visiting I did ask if they had oka available the day that we visited and I received a response letting me know that they did have oka and that their koko Samoa would be available next week. When we arrived the lady behind the counter said there was no oka that day so I was a little disappointed that they said that they have it from a post from 0900 that morning to find out that they didn't even have it. The options for the day was minimal at 1430. Perhaps it's would be best to visit earlier in the day since the kalo looked pretty dry, the sapasui was heavy seasoned with soy sauce, povi masima had a lot of fat with very minimal amount of meat, and the bangers were extremely dry. Seems like they cook to sell out and the heating lamps might attribute to why the kalo and bangers dry out.

My mother wanted to treat my husband and me to a late lunch, and because we were looking for a good fish restaurant, we decided to try Skip's Fish and Chicken. We placed an online order for delivery that included a 3-piece fish meal with deep-fried pickles, two fish baskets (one with fried okra and prawns, the other with deep-fried pickles and mac and cheese), three fried corn-on-the-cobs, and three banana puddings. After spending nearly $150, most of the meal ended up in the trash. The biggest problem was the excessive amount of salt. Everything we tasted--except the banana pudding--was overwhelmingly salty. It seemed as though the food had been salted multiple times after frying. The fish, prawns, sides, and even the vegetables were so heavily seasoned that they were virtually inedible. We could only manage a bite or two of most items before having to stop eating them. The kitchen should simply taste the food before it leaves the restaurant because this level of oversalting is impossible to miss. The fried corn on the cob was particularly unpleasant. When I bit into it, a liquid unexpectedly gushed into my mouth. Combined with the mushy texture, it was revolting. Of everything we ordered, that item was by far the most off-putting. What makes this experience especially disappointing is that we genuinely wanted to like this restaurant. Instead, nearly every item we ordered was ruined by poor preparation and excessive salt. Food should be enjoyable, not something customers worry might make them sick. The only item I found edible was the banana pudding, and even that was mediocre. Unfortunately, this was one of the worst restaurant meals I have ever received, and I cannot recommend Skip's Fish and Chicken based on our experience.

It was the late night spot for what you might call drunk or stoned or hangover munchies food. I will agree it was never the place that made you feel great afterwards, and everyone knew the magic wore off after a few bites. One of my friends who grew up here with me was in town and suggested Kiki's, which felt like an odd choice since neither of us had been in years. After a few beers I entertained the idea. A lot of their locations have closed, but the one on Northgate, the one we used to hit throughout high school and college, was still standing. The menu looks different now, more customizable and cleaner. I ordered a small OG Kiki's fries with ranch and mango habanero, a guilty pleasure wing flavor, and I was honestly surprised by how good it was. It came out fast, just like you hope at a place like that, and the service was good. It is not inventive or stunning or anything like that, but it does the job. If you are craving it, then you are craving it. It even feels like the quality is better than it was back in the day, so maybe downsizing their footprint was the right move and they are focusing on getting things right. And truly, who does not love a bowl of fries, chicken, ranch, and mango habanero sauce. It sounds glorious, especially if you have indulged in some extracurriculars beforehand. Well done, Kiki's. I sincerely wish you the best.

The chicken was impossibly tender on the inside with a crispy, flavorful crust that had just the right amount of heat. You can tell they're not cutting corners -- every bite felt intentional. The food: I enjoyed the food. Chicken had a light batter and a good crunch. Not sure what about it but it got soggy fast. Bread soaked up so much sauce. The money sauce was great! Loved it. Problems with ordering: need a bigger menu or bigger writing. Person taking orders needs to speak louder or use a microphone. Couldn't hear anything over the music. The biggest con: They have heat levels. But anything above medium+ cost $1 extra and they don't tell you. I saw it pop up when he rang me up and I declined. I took medium +. You're a hot chicken joint. Why are you charging for spice? That's ridiculous when it's already $16 for sando and fries.

We learned on our very first visit how good the gumbo is and it's become a must ever since. The people who work here are friendly and you can tell they have a lot of regulars who stop in for food. There's a gravel lot right next to the building and you can take your food to go or enjoy it there. Our food took about 15-20 minutes and then we took it home to enjoy. The portions are definitely fair for the price. They also pack everything well for the ride home. The gumbo is our favorite, it's flavorful and packed with protein like their sausage, chicken, and shrimp and has just a hint of spice. We tried their riblets for the first time and it was a generous portion and we really enjoyed the bbq sauce they used. The mac and cheese is good, but I like mine creamier. It does have a little spice which was nice. The dressing was packed with flavor and we were excited they offered this side because you don't see it everywhere. Their hot water cornbread is definitely something they're known for and is really good on its own or dipped into the gumbo. The Palmer here tastes like Brisk raspberry tea mixed with lemonade, and we really enjoy this twist on it. Overall this spot is a local gem and we love visiting.
