I'm not sure what happened to this place. I used to like the food hair and having visit it.The one by my work several times lately.It seems like it's night and day. The food at this location was basically inevitable.. The street corn salad I got was so soggy that I couldn't eat it. The chicken was tough cold and tasteless. The fire roasting flavor was gone, and the odor seemed to be missing.Also, however, that was replaced by a smell that resemble cleaning chemicals. I threw out my entire meal. It's hard to believe that there can be such a difference between locations. It will probably be a long time before I tried this place again. read more

My family and I stop into El Pollo Loco maybe once every couple of months. We never have a bad experience - you know what to expect and what you're getting quality wise. We usually just order a family meal with rice and beans and half corn/half flour tortillas. I like to go home and make chicken tacos! They used to have a pretty decent salsa bar for a fast food place, but apparently they shut that down during Covid. Now they just give you salsa with your order. Their burritos are decent and their El Pollo Loco Bowl is as well! This location on Northgate has been remodeled and it actually looked really nice and clean inside. There are tons of tables as well! I'm a little embarrassed to leave this review since I'm not the type to do so, but today around 6:30 pm I had a very bad experience at this location. I've been coming here for years, and I love this location, the food, and the staff here. However, today I stopped by to order a double chicken salad bowl, and I mentioned that I wanted the chicken soft, if possible, because the last times I ordered it, the chicken was very dry and hard. I got my order, and the first thing I noticed was that the chicken was very burnt, hard, and dry. I asked the person at the window if I could possibly get softer pieces. A girl named Jennifer approached with a very rude attitude, and while I was trying to explain, she was walks away and leave me talking by myself Very unprofessional. The other girl explained to me that there's nothing they can do because the chicken is cooked in the morning, so basically, there's no fresh grilled chicken throughout the day. That was very disappointing to hear, since we're not able to ask for fresh grilled chicken. No wonder it's dry and hard by the end of the day. I hate to have to go elsewhere for a good salad bowl with fresh chicken and less rude employees. read more

My food has always been good to me. It's just the service needs to improve. I am reluctant to go to the drive thru because they lost my debit card through a crevasse in between. When they were handing back my debit card it dropped and they couldn't get it. "This happened before..." You will have to get a new one...we can't get it" At that point in time I was already dealing with the death of my mom and my life long pet dying. I just needed another thing to do. Hopefully they have fixed that by now if it was the second time. Also, if the cashier inside the store can repeat the items you ordered back to you could be nice. I ordered the double chicken salad, and was surprised at the size. For a tad under $8.00 you're getting a decently sized meal. The drive thru is a mess. The speaker is something 80's movies were made of. You can barely hear them, and it's easy to be convinced that they can't hear what I was saying. The driveway itself has been in need of repair for years. It hasn't changed. The actual window is just as old and in need of replacement. I love a good salad, and this wasn't a salad I plan on ordering again. The avocado tasted odd, the chicken must have been plucked a long time ago. It was dry, cold, tasteless, and oh so not worth the calories. There must have been a mouse, because the cheese was nonexistent. The salad doesn't come with beans, but the order taker must have thought I needed the fiber, because the entire bottom of my container was filled with beans. The added bacon tasted fake, and was cold like a carcass. The dressing came in a plastic envelope, and there is nothing better than warm dressing spread all over dry meat. Would I go back ? Meh. My husband loves the Chicken Tortilla Soup from El Pollo Loco. I cannot go through the drive through , at the Northgate store, because my van has been modified with a hydraulic ramp for my husband's wheelchair and there is a significant dip in the concrete that scrapes the bottom of my van. I don't want to tear apart my van so now I have to go in the store. I have been into the restaurant on Northgate on 3 occasions. Each time I have stood at the counter for at least 5 to 7 minutes before even being acknowledged. The dining area is unkempt. So against my better judgement, I decided to get the 'Double Chicken Tostada' I have to admit that I was enjoying the first few bites. That is until I found a shredded piece of plastic mixed in with the lettuce in my salad. I do NOT recommend anyone to go to the El Pollo Loco on Northgate in Sacramento, CA. Today I did my walk and was ready for my Double Avocado Chicken salad, extra hungry so I ordered Tortilla soup on the side. I asked for shrimp and chicken both and no sour cream. I asked for extra Pico De Gallo. Sorry we don't have any Pico. I get home and the disappointment continues. I got a bag full of crumbs for my tortilla, good thing I asked for a extra bag it wasn't that much better, but at least it had actual pieces of tortilla. OMG it was too salty I put lemon in it to try and cut the saltiness. Never mind I'll try adding water tomorrow, I couldn't eat. I'll just eat my salad. The salad was just as disappointing chicken was dry and the shrimps were so over Cooked they were dry as well. I usually get extra Pico because it generally comes with Pico (remember they're out of pico) so ask for my extra lemon. I squeeze more lemon and hope for moisture to hydrate no dice; even the Avocado was problematic for some reason it was stringy. As this wasn't a food order for us, we asked for 2 more guac and pico and was kind about the mistake that she couldve made. She came back with only one of each and when we asked for the remainder of our request she ignored us as she walked away. When she returned to the drive window she said to give back one of the red sauces. We were confused as that is against health protocols & petty. Delicious food with very friendly service. We went through the drive thru and ordered 4 double chicken tostadas with no dressing, salsas on the side. We were given a generous amount of salsa, plus forks and napkins. Our salads were fresh and tasty. I had to go inside to use the restroom, which required an employee to unlock the door. There is a women's and a men's/women's/handicapped restroom. I used the women's room and it was very clean and well stocked.
