Kiki's is one of those places that took Sacramento by storm, and it defined a lot of the early and mid 2010s for me. It was the late night spot for what you might call drunk or stoned or hangover munchies food. I will agree it was never the place that made you feel great afterwards, and everyone knew the magic wore off after a few bites. One of my friends who grew up here with me was in town and suggested Kiki's, which felt like an odd choice since neither of us had been in years. After a few beers I entertained the idea. A lot of their locations have closed, but the one on Northgate, the one we used to hit throughout high school and college, was still standing. The menu looks different now, more customizable and cleaner. I ordered a small OG Kiki's fries with ranch and mango habanero, a guilty pleasure wing flavor, and I was honestly surprised by how good it was. It came out fast, just like you hope at a place like that, and the service was good. It is not inventive or stunning or anything like that, but it does the job. If you are craving it, then you are craving it. It even feels like the quality is better than it was back in the day, so maybe downsizing their footprint was the right move and they are focusing on getting things right. And truly, who does not love a bowl of fries, chicken, ranch, and mango habanero sauce. It sounds glorious, especially if you have indulged in some extracurriculars beforehand. Well done, Kiki's. It feels like its an older establishment. Its not the best part of town. It appeared ok and well lit. The staff is very friendly. I ordered the 4 tender meal with coleslaw. I went with the mango habanero sauce. I don't think they add all the sauces available that day. I was served fairly quickly. The odd thing about the chicken was it seemed like it was smart and final/costco stuff. The first tender was heavily seasoned, two had no seasoning. Kiki's is one of my husband's favorite quick dinner spots. He loves getting their fries and tenders. I prefer their chicken sandwich over the tenders since it has lettuce, tomato, onion, Mayo cheese and pickles to add extra flavor and some veggies. We've ordered delivery a couple times, but usually we'll pick it up and bring it home ourselves. The parking lot always has plenty of spots and the staff have always been welcoming and helpful when we come in to pick up orders. There is a lot of seating here as well as multiple TVs. On our latest visit they had playoff basketball on. It seems like a lot of people grab to go orders or order off delivery services. We saw quite a few come through while we waited for our food. I really appreciate that they serve three types of fries- regular, shoestring and tots. My preference are tots and then the shoestring ones. The portion size is also really generous the medium is definitely shareable and the large size could be split with a small group easily. They also have really great ranch. The woman who took our phone order was very nice and polite. Picking up the order, the two guys behind the counter were talking a little too fast, trying to rush the short line of customers. I really wanted to LOVE Kiki's. The staff is very nice and the menu items are tantalizing. The restaurant seems like it would be an awesome secret to get great food. Unfortunately, the food is about average and the prices are a bit above. When I came in I spoke with the cashier and let them know that it was my first time trying Kiki's. She was really helpful and pointed out some of the favorites that people enjoy at the restaurant. I ended up going for the loaded up Kiki's tots as well as a 6-piece chicken wing order with buffalo sauce. The Kiki's tots were loaded with all sorts of sauces, flavors, and chicken. The overall taste was pretty good, but I felt that the wet sauces made the crunchy tots too soggy. In the end, without the crunch factor, it was just a big gooey mess. So I guess if you order this you better eat it really quick! As for the wings, they were over ten bucks for a sixer. I did get to choose two flavors for them however. I simply wanted to try their buffalo sauce out because I haven't found my favorite one in Sac yet. This sauce is good and tangy, but I found the chicken to be wanting. It was a bit dry and didn't compliment the flavoring much. My overall meal with a sauce and a drink was almost twenty bucks! So it was pretty pricey. My other concern is that the plaza this Kiki's is in is kind of sketchy. As I was driving out after my visit there was this guy who had a relatively large knife out yelling and just walking around.
