So after a very challenging eating weekend I decided I was going to low-carb it for a few days-which is definitely a challenge since it pretty much wipes out my favorite food and drink products-no rice,no bread,no sugar,no beer. Well thank god whenever I do decide to do such craziness,I live in a world that has In-N-Out in it.They are a true savior when it comes to low-carb eating. Generally I get a protein-style double double which features basically 2 patties and 2 slices of cheese wrapped in lettuce-wrap. For this visit though I was going to try something new on the menu-We were going to try the item called The Flying Dutchman. The Flying Dutchman is basically 2 patties and 2 slices of cheese grilled together-I added "Onion-Wrapped",which adds whole grilled onion slices on the outside for a little added texture.This item comes with nothing else,no pickles,no mustard,no spread-it's very basic. Not sure exactly what I was thinking when I ordered 2 of them considering my normal order is just a double double but I did and my total for 2 of these was $11.40 before tax which is $5.70 per Flying Dutchman. I got them to eat in the car,as I wanted to eat them fresh off the grill for my first Flying Dutchman experience. When I got them-the cheese was oozing,if I was prepared I bet I could've even got a pretty good cheese pull type video when I first got them in my car. I got to say I was pretty surprised how easy 4 patties went down and I didn't miss the condiments-I'm usually a extra pickle,extra chilies type of guy when I visit In-N-Out. I feel the Flying Dutchman is packed with so much flavor from the Grilled Whole Onions on the outside while still letting the incredible taste of the beef patties come forward that the other things aren't missed. It truly was a wonderful bite. In closing,If you ever decide you want to cut the carbs for a few days and still want to enjoy convenient tasty food item,I truly recommend a Flying Dutchman from In-N-Out. Adj: Consistent but Crowded We come to Natomas often so sometimes we come here for lunch. It is one of the first In-N-Out Burger locations in Sacramento metro besides the one Elk Grove (on Laguna off 99) which might be older. The traffic situation here is not good though, it's hard to get in and out, haha... Most In-N-Out locations are off the freeway and no exception to this one off I-5 and Truxel, but it's right at the entrance to the huge plaza, and yet the parking lot is kind of hard to get to and the drive-thru line gets in the way of getting to the restaurant, so it's not my fav location. Something about the way access points are designed at this branch. It's almost always very busy here, understandably, but plan your trip w/patience as it could be awhile just to get into the restaurant. The newer Natomas In-N-Out off Del Paso is easier to access. Anyhow, my hubby really likes In-N-Out whereas I'm just ok with their burgers. They do taste fresh and the ingredients not so heavy since most of their burgers are veggies and I've found the patties are getting thinner, or so it seems, but they don't have that UMPH I'm looking for when I'm wanting to eat a beefy burger. They taste good to me only when I'm at least somewhat to really hungry. If I'm not hungry but still have room to eat a small burger, I find their burgers don't hit that spot in my brain that's looking for that BEEFY taste. I usually eat 1-2 of the regular burgers w/grilled onions and all the fixings, but I give my pickles to hubby. I like their signature spread, but sometimes it's better to just have ketchup on my burger, so it really just depends on my mood, lol. Finally, hubby and kids enjoy their fries tremendously, and the fries do come in such generous portions, but again, I'm like, ehh they're ok, they're fresh, they're real, but I'm just a thick fries type of gal and so I prefer steak fries anywhere over skinny fries here, LOL. I do love that they use such fresh and all natural ingredients for all their burgers and fries, so I can feel good having fast food here, but again, this is the healthy burger joint in my mind and sometimes I just want a beefy and indulgent burger and I have to go elsewhere for that, haha... This In-n-Out is our most frequented. It gets busy, but that's expected. They do a great job at keeping the line moving and everyone on there staff is always on top of things and friendly. We've visited so many times and have only had one order that was slightly wrong- which is better than our experience at other fast food restaurants. Not the usual clean In-N-Out vibe I usually love this In-N-Out, but tonight it looked like they gave up on cleaning. Every table we tried to sit at had food or trash on it, the drink station had straws and spills everywhere, and even the floor by the trash bins was a mess. When I told the cashier, she jumped right in and started cleaning -- so props to her -- but honestly, the place shouldn't have looked like that to begin with. A burger wrapped in lettuce (protein style) and some fries. I usually order my burgers well done but forgot to do so today. The order came out and I left. I started to eat the burger in the car...I took a bite and noticed it was ice cold. At first I thought the lettuce wrap had cooled the burger down. When I looked closer the burger was barely browned on the outside and still raw and barely cooked. It was so cold to the touch, it almost felt as if it was still frozen! I love In-N-Out. I usually order a Double Double with grilled onions, no tomatoes and ADD mustard. Mustard with their signature spread just puts it over the top for me. You can also add green chilies which my husband loves and ketchup to your burger. Animal style fries are a family favorite too depending on what kind of mood we are in. I am a fan of their regular fries though - I know some people aren't, but you can also get them well-done if you prefer them that way! They have lots of secret menu items too like grilled cheese, protein style burgers and my personal favorite - the Neapolitan milkshake! They offer 3x3 and 4x4 burgers as well - nuts! I think I read somewhere that they offer hot dogs too, but don't quote me on that. In-N-Out is one of our go to fast food places...I know they are still fast food, but I consider it one of the healthier options out there. Maybe I'll try a 3x3 some day. read more
