Next to imposible to get a hold of anyone in the office. As a company they should work on their communication skills. Provided them with more than 30 days move out notice, was not offered or provided move out inspection, was told they would give me move out list which I never received. After moving out they sent me a letter that was typed up by them with move out charges that were excessive. Did not provide any itemized receipts for charges. Have attempted to contact them on several occasions to get this resolved and have gotten no response back whatsoever since moving out in April 2024. Be cautious if renting from this property management company as they dont act according to tenant rights and blatantly disregard CA tenant civil codes. read more

Just had the worst experience with this property management. If I could do 0 stars I would. I applied for one of the listings on Monday the 14th. I saw the listing on Friday with Crystal Alarid, who was 15 minutes late and had no clue where the listing was. I literally helped her find it because I already drove by a couple times. This was the best spot for my living situation so I really wanted to go for it. She told me on Friday she will message me by Monday Or Tuesday to let me know any updates. She said I could be moved in by the end of next week which was perfect. Monday comes around no response so I message her around 2. Then she replies at 7 that she will have an update the next afternoon. Next afternoon comes No response. I then texted her at 4 and texted about the update. No response. So I then said just call me whenever you get a chance. So now today is Wednesday 7/23 and still no response. It's so frustrating because I told her I wanted to move on Thursday. To me it feels like I'm being purposely ignored by her and she doesn't know how to communicate. I then went straight to the office and they helped me contact her, she finally texted the office staff. She said Josh was supposed to call me? The office staff then called Josh for him to let me know that the listing is given to someone else already. How does that make sense, I literally was the first person to see the listing, I applied 10 days ago for the spot. Literally just wasted my time. How can someone be so busy not to make a text. Even after I payed for my application and everything. Like if this job is too stressful for Crystal or your work load is too much for her then she should be retrained or hire more people. This is an "exit" review. I rented from KFR for almost 2 years (22 months). This was my first apartment in San Diego after moving across the country from Miami, FL. Jaime showed me the apartment, looked over my application, and had my lease ready within two days because I was in town for a short period prior to moving for the purpose of looking for housing. The process of signing the lease and renting was as smooth as it could've ever been. Once I was all set up, I moved in! The location was amazing for the price and everything about my experience was great. Paying rent was online and super painless. Maintenance requests were fulfilled almost always the next day. And if I had any questions about the lease or the property, my emails were always responded to quickly with answers. Jaime and Rachel are always willing to help. I moved out of my apartment for a larger place. Because I was looking for a good deal I had to break my lease. Jaime and Rachel helped me figure out my options and allowed me to transfer my lease. We fired KFR Star Realty as a property manager in June 2012. They used to hire their own company to do the repairs. They charged us a rate greater than the rate agreed to. In addition, they used to make the mortgage payment. When we refinanced we found that Geoff did NOT make several payments on time. As a result we had to pay a penalty, otherwise the refinancing would not close. I met with Geoff in August 2013 and showed him the over charges for the repairs and the penalties for the mortgage payments. He said, he will check his statement and get back to me. I sent him several messages. He NEVER responded. I advise property owners to be very careful with KFR Star Realty. They would be much better served with another far more credible property manager. read more

rented an apartment from KFR for about 9 months over in north park this year. Art was a cool guy I believe he is the office manager & whenever I needed something he always rushed to get it fixed (e.g. sink, toilet, etc). i accidentally mailed my money order with my car payment and told them i would be late and they were totally cool with it and understood. I would've given 5 star but there was a confusion when i gave my 30 day notice. i took my rent into the office and told them verbally i was giving my 30 day notice & everyone seemed fine with it. well when it came down to moving out they told me they never received a written notice, i explained to them what happened. they said i would need to remain in the apartment for another 30 days. LUCKILY the person i was going to move in with understood and held it for me since i gave him my deposit. and the other issue i had was with my refund on the deposit. the place was small but had carpet. they ended up charging me around $125 to clean 2 small rooms. But I have to say I would rent from them again because overall my experience with them was pleasant. read more

I have rented for over six months with this company, when I have called and left a message for maintenance I have gotten a response the next day. If you don't call them back you won't get a second call so they are not great on the follow up. But I have had no other problems with them and my rental property is kept in good shape and clean. I have had people over and a few times been loud late on occasion and have never received any notice from the company, maybe I have more tolerant neighbors. And the rental prices are really decent for the area I live in and what I find MOST important is they don't require leases, which I was looking for, so if you like month to month this is your company to go through because that is a sometimes a tricky option to find in San Diego . read more

Absolutely atrocious, avoid! Here are my friend's and my experiences with these people: My friend: staying in a rental condo, they discovered a plumbing issue behind the wall. We're talking sewage here. It took months to fix because these people refused to cover moving expenses or to put them up somewhere else at no cost to complete full-on repairs. Eventually, they let my friend out of the lease and she moved away. My experience: since my friend moved away and repairs have not yet been completed, I got the OK from her to use her parking spot for my bike. On a Saturday, I got home from work and went upstairs to change over and eat. 35 minutes later, I went outside to go for a ride and my bike was GONE. No notice, no note, and best of all, they didn't even need the parking spot - there was plenty of parking and Cheryl Peacock, the miserable person she is, decided it was a good idea to ruin someone's weekend and pay $325 to the towing company just for the sake of being nasty. There wasn't even an effort made to find out whose vehicle it was - and everyone who lives here knows the two people that use the vacant spot for short-term motorcycle parking (street parking is inherently dangerous due to ease of theft or getting knocked over, which for a bike, is often a total loss/salvage title) before getting a chance to move them in tandem spots. Cheryl also had a nasty attitude on the phone and instead of offering an apology started yelling and hung up. Geoff is yet to return my call, days later, so I have 0 faith that they even care about how they interact with people. My advice is to avoid dealing with these people, so they either have to adjust their attitude or go out of business. read more

No wonder this realty company only has 2 stars. They have no consideration for customers. I had an appt. booked to view a duplex in the bay park area of San Diego. I showed up early and found two other perspective renters. After ten minutes past the appointment time one lady decided to call to find out why they were late. It turns out kfr decided to lease it earlier despite multiple appointments and without notifying anyone. This was a huge inconvenience to say the least. I moved from the east coast and KFR Star Realty was really helpful in making my move as painless as possible. They were great about getting me set up and maintenance as never an issue that wasn't resolved within 24 hours. Their properties are great and the rent is very reasonable. When we had to move out slightly before our lease, we just had to find someone to take over (easy!) and that was that! They were really wonderful. KFR Star managed the property (a single family residential home) we were renting last year and they did an outstanding job! We initially found the property listed on Craigslist and were in a desperate situation because our other lease was up and we only had 7 days to find a place. We happened to call immediately after they had just posted it to Craigslist and the landlord was still doing some work to it but after explaining our situation to them they agreed to rent it to us provided we took them the deposit and first and last months rent immediately. The rental lease was initially a 6 month commitment and then was month to month thereafter. Throughout our term of the lease (18 months) KFR Star was very responsive and professional about everything. Whenever we had an issue they immediately sent someone out to fix or check on it. They were also very friendly every time we dropped off our rent check each month. At the end of our lease we did a walk through with them and they were very prompt in returning our full deposit. I also recommend using their carpet cleaning company when it comes time to clean any carpet before you move out. It is a bit more costly but if you use your own they will end up charging you to use their preferred carpet cleaning company anyways because their carpet cleaners use all natural cleaners for purposes having to do with allergens and chemicals in regards to the next tenants. They told me many people hire their own carpet cleaner without telling them and then they have to charge them to use theirs anyways since you have to provide them with a receipt showing the service was done. I was very happy with KFR Stars service. From a tenant perspective they were great about managing the property we rented. read more

Viewed a property today that I really wanted, ran around like crazy to get the app in ASAP before anyone else and handed it in at the showing at the property, then called the office to let them know I was the first person with an app and paid fee. They rented to someone else anyway without even running my app despite the fact that I was first. Otherwise known as unfair renting practices. I'll be filing a formal complaint as well, my family won't find a similar property for the price and location and there's no reason we should have missed out on the opportunity other than their incompetence. read more

I called last week to set up an appointment to view a property. The receptionist I spoke to was nice and set up an appointment for me the following week on a Tuesday morning. She said I would receive a phone call the day before to confirm. I never received a call and tried calling several times the morning of my appointment with no answer. My husband got off work early and we decided to go anyway as the appointment had been set. After waiting 10 minutes past our scheduled time no one showed up, so I called them again. A not so pleasant woman by the name of Roberta answered and was very rude! (not the same receptionist as before.) She basically told me no one saved my appointment in the computer and acted like I was crazy saying they weren't even showing the property until Thursday, however mine was scheduled for Tuesday. She then proceeded to tell me that they were going to call all the Thursday appointments to push them back to the following week anyway so I wouldn't of been able to view the property anyway. I asked her how would they have called me to reschedule if they never saved my information!? She had no response. She said she'd send the maintenance man down to unlock it so we could take a quick look. My family and I loved the property and were ready to put in an application. I called her back, she sounded less than enthusiastic, and I asked if we could come down to the office the next morning to turn in an application. I told her we were move in ready and were ready to write a check. She said one other person had turned in an application already but that they were still taking applications. After getting everything filled out and gathering all necessary documentation we were ready to go. Right before our scheduled time to drop off our application she calls to tell me she had rented it! She didn't even give us a chance to turn in our applications and obviously knew when she spoke with me that she wasn't even going to consider anyone else. I called her back to see if there was any way we might still be considered and she kinda snickered at me and said no. I told her that must be why no one bothered to show up at my appointment on Tuesday. Roberta has ZERO customer service skills. I used to work in Real Estate and property management and I have never come across someone so rude. This company is very unprofessional and the people that work their are extremely unpleasant.
