Fairly authentic Bengali cuisine restaurant! An amazing add to the Seattle food scene. We were a party of three - 2 adults & 1 five year old and ordered below 5 items - 1. Bengali Phuchka - Close but could do with a little more favoring. I have very fond memories of this dish growing up and it failed to pack the punch I know it can. However, my son enjoyed it very much. He had 3 of the 6 all by himself! 2. Keema Chop / Cutlet - 10/10 - very good! My son again called dibs on this and made sure nobody else got anything. Must try!! 3. Chicken Biryani - Fairly authentic. Quantity could be better though. If you want mutton biryani, try to visit earlier in the evening since they run out of mutton dishes very quickly. 4. Cocktail - We got a chai inspired cocktail which was pretty good! 5. Luchi & Ghugni - Best luchis in town - must try again!! Ghugni was pretty good too Overall, great place. Some tips! 1. Reservations are highly recommended when visiting during weekend hours to avoid wait times and definitely for big groups. 2. There is only street parking option, so arrive ahead of time to scout a spot. 3. Lots of kid friendly food options. Nothing was spicy. Toddlers can eat freely. read more

I am now a fan! Kha bar is a "new" Bengali restaurant in cap hill on cherry. Amazing views of the street and a quiet, diner like bar in the front. I went there for early dinner with a friend to try it and it did NOT disappoint. Food - 5/5 I ended up ordering mutton curry, which was a solid choices in a fan of lamb/goat so this was a no browner. The sauce was rich and flavorful, although there were quite a few bones. I also ended up ordering these spicy wings that packed quite the punch. Looking back we should have ordered 2 of those. Service - 5/5 We were seated right away, the food came out relatively quickly, and our server was extremely attentive. His recommendations really helped with our food selection as well. Ambiance 5/5 Again, the bar area had this diner feel to it, and it just felt cozy. You can definitely eat here in the late afternoon and enjoy all the happenings on the street as you eat! This Poila Baisakh (Bengali new yea) was extra special as I stepped out with my family , for a night filled with love, laughter, and incredible food. To make it even more memorable, we visited Kha-Bar, a wonderful new Bengali specialty restaurant in Seattle. From the moment we walked in, everything felt thoughtfully curated, the decor, the warmth, the hospitality. And the food? Absolutely unforgettable. We indulged in some of the most comforting and iconic flavors of West Bengal: - Kolkata-style fish fry -Luchi with aloor dum (fried puffy bread and potato curry) -Shorshe fish paturi (fish cooked in mustard paste inside banana leaf) -Shorshe chana paturi (pressed ricotta cheese cooked in mustard paste inside banana leaf) My 9 year old had her own favorites - the crispy fish fry, shoestring potato fries with peanuts, and a refreshing mango lassi. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we ended the evening with the chef's special patishapta (Bengali style sweet crepe) dipped in rich rabdi... pure bliss! First time trying authentic bengali food and this place and experience was perfect with good music and service! Really enjoyed the food and experience. They had fusion cocktails including jaljeera mojito and tamarind margarita, both very refreshing. This restaurant used to be SujuAnju and recently opened as an Indian restaurant. My friends and I visited today around 4pm. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. Ambiance: The interior was nice and beautifully decorated. Comfy chairs. Customer service: POOR Never once the server stopped by to check on us. We had to flag someone down to get us the check. In total we ordered 4 dishes and 2 beverages. The first 3 dishes came and the last one didn't come so we asked the server to cancel. She refused to cancel the order said it's on the way out but we already finished eating at that point, so they said we can give you a to go box. On top of it, our beverages never arrived. Food tastes fine. One of the dishes was curry fish. It comes in full fish with bones. Please do NOT order eat if you don't know how to get the bones out directly from your mouth. Overall, I felt like a waste of money and my meal coming to this restaurant. Granted they just opened, they need to work on their customer service for sure. read more

I stopped by this restaurant recently and had a good experience overall. The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting, making it an easy place to relax and enjoy a meal. The food was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared, with a nice variety of options on the menu. A few dishes stood out for their rich flavors and thoughtful presentation. Service was friendly and generally attentive. There were a couple of minor delays during the visit, but nothing that took away from the experience. Overall, the combination of good food, pleasant surroundings, and welcoming service made this a place worth trying. Slow and slightly confused service (PS owner trying her best to accommodate everybody's interests asap. They are new so might take a while for things to settle in) Ran out of several menu specials that were advertised separately/specially and bengali special desserts. We tried masala tea (decent), gondhoraj ghol (sweeter for me personally, but tasty), bangali phuchka (very disappointing, alu and water both bland), fish fry (mediocre, the sauce ideally should be replaced with kasundi), fish paturi (loved it, super flavors), luchi (very good), chicken curry (100% authentic flavor), chhanar dalna (tasty), rosogolla (fresh), mishti doi (decent). Really interested to try out more of their things. Hope they get better with service. read more

What an addition Kha-bar is to the Indian food scene in Seattle - and honestly, to the city's overall food scene. We read about it in a local foodie group, decided to check it out, and walked out really satisfied. Let me start with the decor. As you enter, the expansive and inviting bar is visible right from the street, slightly set apart from the main dining area. We got a table in the middle of the room. The space has an industrial feel, but it's very tastefully done with old royal Indian-style chandeliers and furniture adding warmth and character. The menu is pretty extensive, but it all ties back to the roots of the owners -- Bengal, a cultural and culinary epicenter of India with a rich heritage. As you go through it, you'll spot quintessential dishes like Phuchka, Kolkata Biryani, Luchi, Chicken Chilli (a nod to the Indo-Chinese cuisine born in Kolkata), Kathi rolls, fish curry, and more. There's so much to choose from that it genuinely took us a while to decide -- too many things sounded tempting. We finally settled on chicken hakka noodles, chicken chilli, fish curry, and lachha paratha. The owner had greeted us when we were seated, and when she noticed our table getting a bit restless with two little kids asking for food, she came over to check in. It had barely been five minutes since we ordered, but she still asked what we'd ordered, rushed to the kitchen, and had our food out in another five. Thoughtful and impressive. And the food - wow. The hakka noodles instantly transported me back to the streets of Kolkata. Perfectly done. Our 4.5-year-old kids, who can't handle even a hint of spice, were able to eat the chicken chilli - and we still found it flavorful and satisfying. That balance is not easy to pull off, but they nailed it. Next came the fish curry, and my wife immediately reminisced about her time in West Bengal. This isn't your typical restaurant-style fish curry -- it genuinely felt like something cooked in someone's home with care and tradition. The fish was fresh, the potatoes in the curry were outstanding, and we finished it quickly with flaky lachha parathas. Once the kids were done, my daughter spotted rosogolla on another table and immediately wanted dessert. I resisted for a bit, then gave in - partly for her, partly for myself. We ordered one plate (two pieces), but after the first bite, it was obvious this wasn't your standard Indian restaurant version. I won't say it rivals KC Das from Kolkata, but it was pretty damn good -- the kind that reminds you of small towns like Durgapur or Purulia. We ordered another plate and happily finished it. As we were wrapping up, the owner came by again and shared that she makes the rosogolla herself and that the fish curry is her mother's recipe. That explained a lot. You can tell how much she cares - about the food and the place. I have a feeling Kha-bar is going to get a lot of recognition in the coming days. We'll definitely be back. Tried this place for lunch today. Ambience was good, but it lacked in food and service. We ordered multiple starters and main course dishes including chicken, mutton and veg. Butter chicken had so much food coloring that the color had seeped through the layers of chicken. Kofta curry had literally 2 small pieces of kofta that tasted of stale paneer and the dish was full of pieces of potatoes. It was essentially a potato curry passed on as kofta curry. We also asked for extra ketchup for the starter and had to ask three times before it arrived. We were done with starters by then. Needless to say, it did not meet our expectations. read more

To start with, great food! I absolutely loved the fact that someone finally took the bold step of bringing regional Indian dishes to the table, especially when Indian food is so often reduced to just butter chicken. India is such a vast country where language, culture, and flavors change from state to state, so hats off to the owners! And I believe this is a women-run establishment, Chitralekha was such a wonderful host and knows her food. Thank you for bringing authentic Bengali cuisine to the PNW! The Fish Fry was absolutely amazing, perfectly flavored with a wonderfully crisp exterior. For all the fish-and-chips lovers out there, you HAVE to try the Bengal Fish Fry. It beautifully reflects the historical culinary influence between the British and Bengal, and honestly, it was addictive! The Dab Chingri (shrimp with coconut) was delicious, rich, and comforting, while the wraps were packed with flavor. The mustard sauce in the Kolkata Kathi Roll brought that uniquely Bengali punch that really made it stand out. And let's not forget the desserts, probably something you won't find at any other Indian restaurant in the PNW! We tried the Mishti Doi, a naturally sweet Bengali-style yogurt dessert with delicate flavors, and the Patishapta... just WOW. Absolutely amazing! My mouth is honestly watering while writing this review. There were still so many dishes left for me to try, but by then my stomach was completely full and very happy! If the dishes we tried were this good, I can only imagine how amazing the rest of the menu must be. Definitely coming back for more. I will not be going back there again. The food was pricey. The taste was ok. The service was pretty bad. The decor was good. The restaurant opens at noon and by 2 PM, they had run out of mutton biriyani and lassi. They did not have enough servers. Took a looooong time to serve and things were served in a confusing order....like our starter "puchka" was served after the mains. Even the water at the tables were not refilled. They need to do a better job at the (high)price they are charging! Not recommended at all! read more
