    Egg rolls-nothing special
    Caroline J.

I know they just opened and we just tried appetizers so I'm willing to go back but the appetizers were just your standard run of the mill- no flavor explosions or anything spectacular. We tried the following: Money bags-no flavor or unique dipping sauce Fresh spring rolls-said it cane with a peanut dipping sauce and it was hoisin sauce with chopped peanuts on top. And not full of fresh herbs or filling which I get at other Thai restaurants in the area. Egg rolls-also lacking flavor Our server was very friendly but what turned me off was that the manager yelled at her right in front of us for bringing out our food early or something. We felt incredibly bad for her as she had just started the day before (she had told us) and it was so uncomfortable for us as well as unprofessional! They keep advertising being different and a new Thai experience but I did not get that at all! There is plenty of seating with both booths and tables. I'm not in a rush to get back but maybe the main dishes will be better.

Thai Tara had been our favorite place to dine in Williamsburg... ...until last night. There is one simple reason that it has fallen off our list: Outrageous prices that are constantly rising. We have visited this restaurant biweekly for the past year since we moved here and at least twice on every visit to Williamsburg since the restaurant opened. What we have noticed is that the prices are going up at a far higher rate than general inflation. We started to dine at Thai Tara when it first opened a few years ago when it cost us $40-50 per person. Slowly at first, it became an expensive treat. But last night we were handed a bill for $70 per person; for 3 of us, the bill came to was $215. Nothing extravagant. Three $6 beers, three appetizers and a few pieces of Sushi and Sashimi. And for the first time in memory, the sushi rice was not properly seasoned and sticky, which makes for a poorly prepared product. But this review is not about a single disappointing food experience which is certainly the exception. This is about the outrageous prices. It is our opinion that pure greed is on display here. They fill the restaurant several times over almost every evening. They won a Best Restaurant honor recently. So our guess is that the owners have figured that they can grab for more profit and if they lose a few patrons, no big deal. They just need to keep in mind that many of their close-by loyal neighbors who are on a retirement budget and frequented this establishment, and are coming to the same conclusion. Thai Tara is overtly overpriced. So sad to say "so long ", Thai Tara. You have priced yourselves out of our budget.

The ambiance is ehhh, but not bad. Just needs some better lighting and a nice clean. The red curry was pretty good. The spice was there and the flavor was decent. I never had Thai before so I don't have much to compare it to. I feel like it could've used a little bit more flavor. I had to add some salt and pepper to bring out some more from it and the tofu didn't really hold the flavor of the broth. I would try it again for sure, but I would like to try some other things as well. I do want to say. The veggies were cooked great. Hard snap and flavorful.

We decided on eating family style and ordered appetizers to start off with to share. While the crab rangoon and crispy spring rolls were both hot and fresh, the edamame wasn't. Sadly, we had to send it back. So, our server gladly took it off our bill. The Chicken Pad Thai had an unexpected sweet flavor and it wasn't what we would have preferred, especially in comparison to other Thai cuisine that we've often enjoyed in the past. But, we liked the shrimp fried rice that was very flavorful. We're glad to have stopped in to Lanna Thai. They had several pick up orders while we were dining. There were a couple other tables that seemed to be locals. Would welcome seeing more Yelp reviews on this restaurant to get suggestions on favorite dishes that I should try next time.

It has a pretty unique selection of dishes not commonly offered in most Chinese takeout places. I consider their offerings more authentic. The serving sizes are huge and can be eaten family style with friends and family! There is a distinct aftertaste that is similar across the dishes we ordered. I'm assuming it's from the oil or base they use in their dishes. But it's not enough to deter me from trying their other food items! Will definitely be coming back! :)

They only appeared to touch the frying pan for barely a minute. They had a steamed, flimsy texture, and I was going for that nice crust, which separates a pan-fried dumpling from a steamed dumpling. My server was very good but the kitchen was very slow tonight, it took almost another twenty-five minutes to get the entree out after the appetizer, and the restaurant was only moderately busy at best. The table next to me also had to wait for every course. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. Even the dumplings that were under fried had good flavor. *Please be aware, which came as a shock to me, that the restaurants on that particular street are subject to a 12%to 13% percent sales tax, which was really off putting. I would still go back to Peter Chang's but probably another location because of the tax and the slow kitchen.
