So me and my wife had a day off together and we planned to go do put put golf up in Kaneohe. We went to the windward mall location. I have been to the one out in Kapolei and the food was great & full of flavor. We decided to order the 6 pounder, which is $250 Lots of seafood. It looked great, but none of the Kajun flavors got into the meat and the food was not hot. The only thing that locked in the temperature was the crab & lobster.nothing had flavor. Poor execution of boiling the crabs & shrimp. And when we were explaining this to the manager all she offered was to give us a free desert and nothing else. She did not apologize for their mistake. She did not offer to comp us for the poorly executed meal. She did not reduce the price of the poorly executed meal she just gave us excuses and offered us a free desert. This is the reason why the Kaneohe location is not as popular as the Kapolei location. Very disappointed in the execution and preparation of the food. When we first tried this place they had a lunch special which was awesome. Kept us coming back but since they took it away the value just isn't there for repeat visits. The food is pretty good. My son likes the crawfish just because it is not common on island. The po boys are decent with lots of fries or tots. I get the oyster one and they are well cooked. Juicy and not dry or tough. We waited to order for a while including another table that was seated after us getting their order taken and had to ask a few times for water but it happens sometimes when places are busy. Surprisingly this place was pretty good! We arrived to the mall to get a few things, but coming here was out of curiosity and pure impulse. My family and I were hungry and didn't feel like going to the food court so I teased the idea to my husband, caught a quick glimpse of the basket menus for our kids and was immediately set on going, hoping the boys wouldn't mind. We ordered: 1 pupu platter appetizer 1 soft shell crab basket with fries 2 lemon pepper wing baskets with fries 1 crawfish combo (with shrimp, mussels, clams, sausage, corn, potatoes) Everything was so flavorful and crispy! Kickin Kajun was kickin'! I can't believe I've never tried this place. I participated in the UH Summer Band so I was out at Windward Mall for our concert. One of my friends who drove out from Mililani wanted to grab a bite before heading back so after checking what was around and we landed on this place. Funny story, I was gonna be eating crab legs the next day but hey, after looking at the menu I got excited. We got an order of fried mozzarella cheese sticks and shared the snow crab legs combo. Definitely good for 2 people who are hungry. We did good and ate everything. We got the Signature Kickin' sauce and the garlic butter was fantastic! Prepare to get messy - definitely use that bib and extra napkins. I don't like getting my hands dirty when I eat but it was so yummy I didn't even care. Still can't believe the 2 of us ate everything. Yup, definitely didn't have space for dessert which I normally always have space for. We really love kicking kajun. We've tried a few different things and enjoyed everything. Going for lunch you definitely get more bang for your buck. Our favorites so far- Lunch boil- ton of food! So messy! Soft shell crab-my son's favorite! He says it's cooked perfect every time and we've lived in coastal towns his whole life. Chicken tenders. Don't judge me. They are good! Their spicy aioli is so good for dipping! Cajun fries or tots are always a good choice BUT sometimes they over season the Cajun fries and it's not great. It's like eating sand. Inside is cute. Love the black and white walls. No matter when we go in we never have to wait. My only problem is that even if we are the only table, the service can be incredibly slow. I ordered the shrimp combo take out last night. I added on 2 extra corns and 2 coleslaws. I was surprised when I showed up they had just finished packing up my order "just in time." I checked to make sure I had everything, and noticed my coleslaw and my two corns were missing. Good thing I hadn't left yet. Staff was kind when they realized, and apologized for the wait. When I finally got home to eat, I went to peel my first my first shrimp and my finger smooshed all the way through the shrimp, complete mush. I grabbed the next shrimp hoping for the best, but same thing. At this point, I was just eating them, because I didn't spend $70 for nothing. The sauce was good, I just had to get over the texture. I want to say about 95% of the shrimps I ate were soft. Flash forward to the middle of the night and this morning, my stomach has been so sore. It's hard to get out of the bathroom. I look up if "soft shrimp" are safe to eat, and google tells me soft shrimp are usually spoiled, and definitely not safe to eat. I'll probably not eat at this location ever again, and would recommend if anyone wants to try it out, to dine in and complain if they have soft shrimp, or avoid the shrimp fully. read more

Went here tonight, I've been here a few times now and things have taken a turn for the worst here. I ordered a crawfish bag, the crawfish were tiny, the shrimp was over cooked, the sausage is literally 2 skinny pieces of sausage for $58. I didnt even have enough sauce to scoop up there was literally no sauce in the bag, most of the seafood had no sauce on it. I tried to mix the bag and mix around the seafood in the bag but it did nothing. I had to ask for extra sauce on the side which was $7!!!!!! The waitress who NEVER came back to check on us FORGOT my sauce even though she serviced the table next to us about 3x since I asked for the sauce. I just sat there and waited, not eating. I had to flag her down AGAIN. She said there was a mix up.. where??? The other 4 tables that were seated? No there wasn't a mix up... you FORGOT.. I had to wait again for my sauce. By the time I got it, I didnt even want to eat any more. I had to ASK for my check, I had to ASK TWICE for containers because she forgot i had asked for them. She literally NEVER came back to check on us or refill drinks and water after she gave us our food. $65 for over cooked, under seasoned seafood and extra sauce. Wow, I was really surprised at how good the food was. We did take-out and just called ahead. I was a bit early so I waited at a table. The place is clean, does not smell fishy at all. Nice decor and the guy working out front was polite and courteous. Just waiting inside was a good experience. Now, we get home and open our plates. HUGE po boy sandwich and a heaping of Cajun garlic fries. We got a popcorn shrimp and a chicken tenders sandwich. The spicy sauce was killer and the coleslaw was sweet and complimented the sauce. When ordering garlic fries, she said that we might not get our order because the cook is new and is really slow today. She said we will get a discount if our fries don't come out. I was confused and asked if she was even going to put in our order for garlic fries and it's just a gamble if it'll come out or not. All she did was show me her notebook that she wrote it down. Ok whatever. Next, our "pound" of snow crab legs came out with the pound of Kauai prawns. It was a single cluster. I asked the server if this was a pound and she said it was. I told her I've always gotten two clusters. She kept insisting that it was correct. First she told me she'll have the cook come out. I said no because wtf. Then she offered to take it back and show the cook. So I gave back the cluster in a bag. She told me she will have the cook remake it. I told her I wasn't looking for it to be remade. I told her to just keep it and we will just eat the prawns. Then she said, "I can't take it back. It was already in the bag". Uh, what? She literally just told me she will take it back to the cook and now she's changing it to she can't take it back. I told her I don't want the crab cluster because I'm not paying $55 for a single crab cluster. Mind you, they have a mini combo on the menu that includes a crab cluster, 4 shrimp, 4 clams, 4 mussels, 1 potato, 2 sausage, and rice for $42! Make it make sense. Even if in another universe a single snow crab cluster weighed a pound, the server could at least told us that it would be better to get a mini combo instead. Been wanting to try out Kickin Kajun since they opened at Windward Mall, but on the night we planned to dine in, the hubby was suffering from a major allergy attack, so we decided to just get some pupus to nibble on. An was so sweet, she helped me with the menu and made suggestions based on what I wanted to eat. Since I wanted to save the main seafood things for when we do dine in, I asked about the chowder and sampler platter. An said the chowder is really good, and the sampler was a great way to try a bunch of different items. My son was set on having some garlic Fries (since you can't go wrong with that), so we placed our order. The wait time went quickly, and before we knew it, An brought us our food and we were on our way home. Sampler Platter ($21.00) - 4 pieces each of Crab Won Ton, Coconut Shrimp, and Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, which was perfect for my family of 4 to try one of each, with appropriate dipping sauces included. Because I actually like all the items on this sampler, I can't choose a favorite... they're all yummy! Clam Chowder Cup ($6.00) - Okay, I will be honest... I was expecting a little larger serving size, but the flavor of the chowder and the fact it was loaded with clams made up more than enough! I would order this again! And the oyster crackers that came with it were nostalgic for me. Garlic Fries ($9.00) - Crispy and crunchy, loaded with garlic as expected - vampires beware!! The kids pretty much demolished this plate. Fried Calamari Platter ($16.00) with Sweet Potato Fries (+$1.00) - We love fried Calamari, and these were soo good that I was only able to snag 3 pieces! Guess I'll have to go again to get more haha! The sweet potato fries are a favorite of mine and the hubby's, so we enjoyed them thoroughly Didn't realize it at the time, but our order consisted amost entirely of fried items! And each item was perfectly fried and still piping hot when we got home, luckily we live just a 5 minute drive away. Over 2 years later since my first review and this spot still hits! The prices went up as expected but the quality and quantity they provide doesn't disappoint. Everyone I've interacted with here is really nice. I've also had the pleasure of dining in when it's not busy so everything is really quick. However noticed they do get pretty busy during peak dinner hours when I was leaving the mall. They also offer outside dining but I've never been around with people out there. This spot is nice and clean and has a couple TVs that you can request to change the channel if need. This is one of the better shrimp/crab boils I've been to in the state but not sure how they compare to one's on the continent. I would recommend to upgrade to Kauai prawns if you can instead of the regular shrimp. They have three locations on island so they must be doing some thing right! read more

I recently went to Kickin Kajun with my friend and wow was it good.. If u are a seafood lover or just love getting your hands dirty, man is this the spot for you. I enjoyed some crawfish along with some sausage and rice. Its quite the combination when you combine that signature boil with your rice and sausage. We came to Kickin Cajun at the recommendation of a friend who is pregnant and who at the time was having a craving for Cajun food. To be honest, otherwise I would not have frequented this establishment because Hawaii is not the place I go for Cajun food. But all in all I really enjoyed our experience! My wife ordered her perennial Hawaiian go-to, coconut shrimp, which she got with sweet potato fries. All was good, to standard, no complaints. I ordered the lunch special with Kauai prawns, bathed in the signature sauce. As someone who appreciates and wants high levels of heat in spicy dishes, I asked our server if how hot the "extreme" spicy sauce (made with ghost peppers) was. She brought me out a small dish of the extreme (5x), which I found to be fiery, but tolerable - but probably not what I wanted my whole meal to taste like, so I ordered the regular "spicy" level. So when my food came out, I was able to dip into the extreme, but rest in the normal-range high heat. Also, the prawns were great - large, juicy, and flavorful, and the potato and corn that I got as sides all went well. A note on presentation, my wife's coconut shrimp came in the kind of thin cardboard dish common to any food truck - normal. Mine came out in a plastic big, soaking in its sauce! And the server also brought not only a bib (which I have found common to legit no-frills seafood restaurants) but plastic gloves, too. This was great! One of the things I dislike most about eating shell-on seafood is that I have to dissect it myself, which leaves my fingers smelling like seafood for the rest of the day. Based on the menu you can see that there are a variety of selections due to feeling in the mood for seafood boils, fried foods, and even po boy sandwiches. Thus usually when I come here, I always want the snow crab combo. This combo comes with snow crab,1/2 pounds of clams, mussels and shrimp. It also comes with 2 of corn, sausage, and rice. It's honestly a great deal for two people. However if you're in the group of three it's always best to order extra of another seafood, like shrimp, mussels or clams. Just depends what you're in the mood for. For this review, the customer service was a solid 5 stars, I didn't catch the servers names but they were awesome. The guy who helped us was friendly and quick with filling in our order of another round of shrimp. I would say this rating reflects on the sauce of the seafood boil, usually it's filled with garlic and the Louisiana spice. But for some reason I felt it was a bit short. Came here for mother's day lunch, and everything was great! They had our reservation from a few weeks back, which I appreciated. Upon arrival, we were seated right away and given a high chair for my son. We ordered the combo with snow crab legs, medium heat, and garlic fries. I also had a beer and my husband had a soda. The garlic fries came out first and they were crispy and loaded with garlic. Some of the best garlic fries I've ever had! Next, our seafood came out, and it was piping hot! It was the usual fun to try to crack into everything, including the crab. My only disappointment about the crab was that it was really hard to dig out of the shell. None of those nice, slippery full pieces came out. The potatoes, corn, muscles, clams, sausage, and shrimp were delicious as always. So when I came back from the mainland, we finally made a trip up for Po Boys since the Honolulu location doesn't have (I think)! The location that my friends and I went to is located next to Pieology in Windward Mall. Close to Zippy's. There's a parking lot for the mall with ample parking that won't ever be a problem. I ended up not getting a Po Boy sandwich LOL. I got the catfish basket with cajun fries which came with tartar sauce. The catfish was surprisingly really good! It was cooked perfectly, not overcooked or undercooked at all. My friends got the fried oyster poboy, fried gator poboy, fried oyster basket, and calamari basket. All over a bed of fries with either garlic, parmesan, or onion rings. Soooo much fried foods. I don't know why we did this to ourselves. LOL. The fried oysters and calamari were delicious. Similar to the catfish, they were nicely seasoned and not overcooked. The dipping sauce that came with the calamari was bomb (don't remember what it was). I tried the gator, but it wasn't that memorable compared to the catfish I got. I generally like the seafood boil from this chain restaurant. I've never tried their fried foods until recently, and I got to say, it was pretty good! Horrible service from the older lady with the purple ponytail. The young girl was great as she seemed to be the only one checking on us and it wasn't even her table. Look, I hate writing bad reviews but when a restaurant charges the prices these guys charge they should know what the customers think. I know everyone has a bad day but if that chick with the purple ponytail is always like that someone needs to light her up or let her go. It's not that she's mean and she does seem to be a hard worker but she needs to pay more attention to her customers. We walked in to a relatively empty restaurant which got crowded after we had placed our order not knowing there was only one cook until we had to ask purple hair why things were taking so long. THREE workers for a major restaurant in a crowded malll on a Saturday night? Are you kidding me? Moving on, the food is not cheap. Yes, I know it's seafood but it's definitely not top of the line seafood and the shrimp was overcooked and the didn't have clams that were supposed to come with the expensive meal so they gave us more shrimp which comes straight out of the water with head on and long ass whiskers wtf. They have seating at every other table and provide you with sanitary hand wipes. As for the food, it was exceptionally tasty. The da mix seasoning provided a bit of a kick for those who are sensitive to spice, I would not recommend this one. The waitstaff works hard to meet and exceed the expectations of diners. Large mozzarella sticks, Coconut shrimp and ragoons for $19. The coconut shrimp - looks burnt but it's actually cooked perfectly inside! Don't let the looks of it make you want to return it. Try it. its good! The mozzarella sticks are huge and do not wait till it gets cold. Its not so good then. The ragoons or Crab cream won tons are really tasty inside.
