After reading the reviews, we wanted to try this restaurant rather than our usual go-to Japanese restaurants. My husband liked his salmon dinner and spinach dumplings, but I was disappointed with the mango shrimp. I asked if it was spicy and told that it was not, but it was mildy spicy so not enjotable. There were 5 shrimp which is not a lot and they were tough; the veggies were fresh looking, but I could hardly tell by the taste because of the spice. I made the mistake of ordering hot sake which tasted awful, gave me a stomach ached and a headache the next morning. I drink sake when I have Japanese food and have never had this problem. The ambience and service is excellent, but not a reason to go here. We will not return because there are so many better options. read more

Just visiting our daughter from Hawaii and wasn't expecting delicious Japanese food like we have on the islands. The chicken katsu dinner plate was loaded and so tender. The shrimp tempura was crispy and perfectly prepared. I loved how they offered other vegetables tempuras also. Last, the sashimi platter was huge and so fresh. Service was average. This was my first time eating dinner at this restaurant. I usually order the same items when I eat out in like restaurants. I ordered a green salad and Udon soup with chicken and vegetables. The salad consisted of only a small handful of iceberg lettuce. Very unsatisfying. The soup consisted of 2- 3"x 1/2" pieces of chicken, 2-1"x1" mushrooms and a few carrots and celery pieces. The restaurant was charging $14.95 for the soup. I showed the soup to the waitress who got the manager whom I told of the unacceptable quantity of protein and mushroom. I asked her for more chicken and mushroom. She later brought a small bowl of 2 more mushroom pieces and approximately 3 ounces of chicken. I went home hungry. I will not be returning. read more

Hands-down the best sushi I've ever had, including during a 2-week trip to Japan. The special rolls are creative, extremely fresh, and simply delicious. Pricey for such a casual place, but you definitely get what you pay for. I dream about the Greenwich and Christmas rolls! Service is also always great when we eat in, which I recommend-- it just always tastes better there. It's small, but a really special place. My boyfriend and I ate here on Friday night. I have to say that I really enjoyed the sushi. I especially loved the Manhattan roll. It was some of the best I have had in the area. The springs rolls were also very crispy and delish! The satay sauce is also wonderful. The only reason I am not giving it more stars is for the atmosphere. The seating and ambiance felt a little awkward and uncomfortable. That being said, I would much prefer to order this food out and eat in the comfort of my own home. read more

I had tried Kiku Sushi when we first moved into this area about 4 years ago. The food was just okay and the service was awful. However, after reading the yelp reviews I decided to give it another shot tonight and to my surprise the food was just okay, eatable, nothing crazy to rave about and the service this time was worst then the first time! I ordered to go/pick up and honestly thought the experience would be a lot different, the women who took my order was so annoyed that I was making adjustments to my order, I can't have dairy so I ordered the spicy tuna without mayonnaise and brown rice, instead, it was a just a square of plain tuna w brown rice and no sauce, super blend! So glad I had wasabi and ginger!! i also ordered yellow tail/scallion hand roll to be fill with radish and no rice, instead I got yellow tail/scallion with just romaine lettuce! I've had this in just about every sushi restaurant in Stamford so I thought perhaps it would not be a problem, instead this woman sounded angry and annoyed! She questioned my order as if I was crazy, I did let her know I have had this before and then after I confirm the entire order I gave her my credit card information and when I ask her for the total , she simply hang up. I decided to call back and asked why she had done that and she basically said what do you want! I asked for my order total and then I said to her that I needed to speak with the owner and she said they were not there, so I asked for her name and she said it was Maggie, however to my surprise after my friend brought the dinner over, I happened to see on the receipt that her name was not Maggie but instead Susan and on top of it, they charge me for an extra roll that I did not order and I ended up throwing out! Overall, I have to say I will never go back to this restaurant and I'm just giving it 1 star because at least the clear soup and appetizers was okay. read more

Best sushi in Stamford! It may be more expensive than any other sushi restaurant in town, but worth the money.

First time and heard their Salmon was good. Sushi and sashimi was excellent! Salmon was outstanding! Literally melts in your mouth. Sushi rice has a different flavor and complements the fish very well. Not traditional flavor. Miso soup very tasty. Pass on ginger salad. OK, but nothing unique. Japanese pizza was excellent! If you love sushi, you have to try the Uni and Sweet Shrimp. With the Sweet Shrimp, they serve the heads fried with mayonnaise sauce. Delicious and for a fried dish melts in your mouth. My friend and I tried this place tonight, we ordered takeout. My husband picked it up and when he got to her house they had given us he wrong order. My friend called and they told us it was our fault because my husband took it, he did not place the order and had no idea what we had gotten. We asked for them to deliver he new food and the gave us a hard time, they also told her the new pod would be the same price as the wrong food. My friend went to the restaurant and she asked for a manger and they told her they did not have one. She asked who was running the place and the woman told her no one. She tried to pretend it was not her that we had spoken to on the phone. We got the correct order and they finally voided the transaction but they refused to do anything else for us. The most disgusting part is they took the food we returned and put it aside to give to the customer who had ordered it, my friend said, what are you doing with that food and she said she threw it away, but it was clearly placed on the side to use. It's too bad cause the food was actually pretty good by the service was awful! read more

We usually order once every 2 weeks for takeout or delivery (which is very fast to your house.) I have never eaten the the restaurant, so cannot comment on service when eating there, but I will say that we've always had excellent fresh sushi - we usually order tuna, yellow tail, salomon, rolls (spicy crunchy & california rolls) and have had many guest at our house make similar comments on the freshness and taste of everything we've ordered. We started going 3 years ago when one of our friends who had recently moved from Japan said that Kiku was the best sushi in the area, and we continue to agree, after having tried many places. It isn't cheap, but then again, who wants to eat cheap sushi? read more

Have been going to Kiku (mostly for takeout) for six years. The sushi is consistently fine with quality fish. I just went there this evening with my wife for a quick sit down meal. Food was fine, but when the bill came they charged $12 for a "large" sapporo. The "large" is a pint of beer which comes in a can. I'm sorry, but that is an absurd amount to charge for a beer. The food we order was good.The calamari were really cruncy and tender.The tofu with the spinac was really good.The small spring rolls i would not order again.Not because were not tasty,but more because they are a little empty inside.The Chardonnay should be at little less then $ 8.00 for that size Glass.All the other wines look well priced .The people are very attentive to their costumers and the decor is nice,clean and you can see that they spend a nice chunk of money on doing the place .Keep it up,even if is a little out the way, i like to go back again. Food was decent, but they really ripped us off on the pricing. As soon as we were seated, they brought out salad & miso soup for all 4 of us without asking, we assumed it was included in our meals. At end of meal, found out we had been charged $4 per person = $16 total for it. Quite ridiculous considering that they gave it to my 10-month old & my 2 yr old so they didn't even eat it!! We pointed this out to the mgr, and she was very rude and just said "its extra" and pretended she didnt speak any more English. That was first & last time we eat there - buyer beware. read more

Just flat out amazing. ive been going here ever since it first opened, back then it was about half the size it is now. Since then it has really come a long way, but the food, service, and staff have always been perfect. ive not once had a problem with them and i honestly cant see where all these negative reviewers are coming from. Wether youre eating in, ordering out, or getting delivery this place has something for everyone. if you arent a fan of sushi (which would be shocking :p) they also have some delicious dishes from the kitchen that range from noodles to beef teriyaki (which happens to be a favorite of mine). My suggestion is that if youre ordering delivery try to avoid fridays because they tend to be very busy and an order can take a while. All in all one great place for family and friends, delicious food, and great service. read more

Horrible service and food!! I wish I could give it below zero rating. This was my worst restaurant experience! The waitress (which I suspect was actually the owner) was very impatient and rude while I took time to decide what to order. She would not give a clear description when I asked about several menu items and was very unaccommodating when I asked if I could switch one of the ingredients in a dish (she said "no" directly). I waited for quite a while for my dish even though it was not a busy night. When the dish (Seafood Sukiyaki) finally came, it tasted absolutely terrible. The shrimps were tough, and I could only tasted soy sauce, very salty. Also although the menu says there is fish in it, I did not find any fish. I would never imagine in a million years that a restaurant dish could be this bad, and it cost me $16.95 before tax! If you enjoy bad food and rude waitress, then go there by all means. The worst Japanese Restaurant as far as food and staff. The staff which is primarily the female owner at the register. She is cold and rude and the food is very expensive and not very good. If you want great Japanese food with great service whether you eat in or get delivery try Abis in Greenwich at the bottom of Greenwich Ave they are truly the BEST Japanese Restaurant around the food is less expensive than all the newer Japanese Restaurants and it is ten times better. My husband and I ate at most of the Japanese Restaurants in Stamford Japanese and Japanese/Hibachi Restaurants and The Best is by far as far as Quality of food amount of food and cost you can not beat Abis they have been in business for at-least 25 years and their chef is the BEST. KIku charges a lot of money and you get nothing in return except a really bad attitude from the female owner who thinks she is doing you a favor for your business. read more
