She even rescheduled my initial appointment when I needed to cancel (with notice). I showed up to my appointment 10 minutes early which gave us more time for the consultation. Once the appointment started, she told me she hasn't taken new clients in over a year because the wait for her existing clients became too long. I asked, "so how did I get here?" She said she didn't know and that maybe I just emailed her at the right time. When I left my appointment with frizzy hair (I guess she doesn't flat iron hair or normally work with curly hair) she told me I could reschedule a new appointment next season or next year, it's up to me... I'm sure she is far more friendly and helpful with her existing clientele. I'm also sure I won't be returning but that is probably alright with Amy.

I had warned them about this beforehand, but no one ever seems to really take me seriously LOL. In order to not damage my hair Jane took an entire 5 hrs! working on it, and was very patient the entire time. This was both a pro and a con - pro in that my hair did not come out fried, as it often can, but con in that 5 hrs is a really long time to be spending sitting in a hair salon! They made sure I had water and a bathroom break, which was very considerate. Jane seemed very knowledgeable and specifically did different treatments for the parts of my hair that hadn't been permed before vs those that had. The top layer took very well. The cons: Again, 5 hrs... I very much appreciate them not wanting to fry my hair, but maybe a little speeding up could have been done? Also, while the top layer permed well, the bottom didn't really take - see photos. Also, just FYI, but there is no validated parking. It wasn't terrible to pay the garage, but just something to be aware of. Overall I really appreciated all the time and patience they took, to specially alter treatments for different parts of my hair, and try to not damage it. If there is some kind of middle ground to be able to do the perm and have it take completely in all the hair, and with less time, that would be ideal.

I got a digital perm at Hair Design Zone with Reika at the end of March. It took me months to let…read moremy hair grow to get rid of all the bleach. I can't express how excited I was for my digital perm. The hair is something so important for me, and having little kids I just wanted to have a hair that looks nice and it is easy to take care of as mom's life can be pretty busy. My first appointment took about 6 hours, at the end of it during the last wash, Reika looked really confused. The perm did not work and the curls were "gone". Despite spending so many hours there I was very polite and understanding as I know sometimes mistakes happen. She asked me if we could reschedule to fix the issue and I said ok. Initially they rescheduled for me to come back a week after I got the digital perm, but I was worried about my hair health and I suggested maybe we wait 2-3 weeks until we try again, so we did as she agreed that would be best. After 48hrs I washed my hair and I noticed that on the top part of my head there were some parts that looked really damaged, but I just assumed that it was part of the process that went wrong the first time and that it would get fixed during my next appointment. I did take a photo on April 1, which was just after I got my perm to record the top part issue on my hair. Today I went back for the second appointment to fix the curls and I showed her the top issue as well. For my surprise I was accused of having done another treatment elsewhere, which I DID NOT. I have done enough hair treatments to know that I should not do a treatment on top of another like that. The end result of all of this is that now I have damaged hair and was faulted for it, I was called a liar and accused of something that I have not done. Again, I know that mistakes happen and we deal with it, the problem is that in this case no accountability was taken and on top of that the client got blamed for something that DID NOT HAPPEN. I see a lot of positive reviews from clients that had their service with JJ, maybe I just had the wrong stylist. The final overall experience was so negative and upsetting. Do not wish anyone to ever go through the same thing. Was really hoping to be super happy about this experience but unfortunately turned out completely opposite.

She was very efficient while also ensuring that my hair retained its natural moisture and health. She made sure that she respected my time due to my meeting later that evening. When I returned home, I did notice that the toner didn't take on a small but noticeable section of my hair that was noticeably blonde. I immediately texted Annum to let her know and she squeezed me in the same day to reapply the toner for the area, which was a very quick fix. Not every hair stylist would show this level of dedication to ensure that I had the best experience. After a month, the color has held up beautifully and I've received endless compliments on her work. Long story short, I came to Annum after nearly 2 years of not letting anyone touch my hair because of a disaster that left me in tears with shoulder length hair when I was supposed to only get an inch off my super long hair (obvs, this wasn't her who did it). Now I literally only trust Annum to do my hair and recommend her to all my coworkers, friends, and family. Not only is she precise with all her cuts and color, she can also recommend what she thinks will be flattering for you which is especially nice for people who may not come in with inspo pictures. After she brought life back to my sad hair, I trusted her to finally go ahead and give me some color with a balayage. I haven't looked back since then and have only been going lighter with each visit! The best part is that even several months later, my balayage looks fresh and perfect despite my hair growing out. I personally give her creative freedom and trust her with whatever color she thinks is gonna look great on me but you can always bring/show her what you want and she'll recreate it to the best of her abilities! Remember folks, every artist is different and uses different techniques so an exact recreation isn't really possible. She's great at listening to what you want while also protecting your hair from any unnecessary damage and if you aren't happy with it (which I'm sure is rare) she'll fix it! Annum herself is a delight to come in and see. She's always so sweet and sociable - it's always fun to talk to her while she's working her magic on my locks! I appreciate that she has her own private suite in a salon with other artists which does make her hijabi friendly BUT bear in mind that there are men who will walk around as they probably work there too. In terms of pricing, I think her rates are very fair especially considering what some other salons (super side-eye to yall) charge for balayages and color services that aren't even close to beauty that she creates. Again, bear in mind that while it isn't cheap - no hair stylist gives you a refund for services already done! Common sense right? Apparently not. Like I said before, if you aren't happy for whatever reason; let her know and she'll fix it. You'll be hard pressed to try and find ANY salon or stylist that'll refund you for any reason. Booking is easy but she does book super fast so make sure you make your appts well in advance! My thick desi hair won't let anyone else touch it so seriously, treat yoself and get your hair blessed by Annum and her magical hands!
