Oh my goodness, amazing smoked whitefish, pickerel and trout, right by Killbear Provincial Park. My…read morehusband and I learned about this place as we tried to buy campfire wood and ice. Brian Perks sells great hardwood for your campfire. He also sells blocks of ice, which I prefer, as opposed to cubes. SO here is our business practice as a customer: on the way into camping, we pick up Fire and Ice (a.k.a. wood and a couple of ice blocks). Every few days, we come back again to replace said items. Brian Perks charges far less then the park does, and his wood is better, too! But the thing to truly die for is the smoked fish. When you are staying in a park called Killbear, with actual bears roaming around, you don't want to be keeping smoked fish in your cooler, car or tent. We pick ours up on the way out. You can choose between Whitefish (drier, whiter, nice for salads), Trout (oily, full-flavoured) and Pickerel (I have not tried it). Both the whitefish and the trout are outstanding! Mr. Perks told me that most of his produce goes to New York City, and much of the rest to Eastern European customers in Ontario. My Mother (Ukrainian and Romanian) adores this fish. Last year I forgot to pick some up, and she's not let me forget it! This year, I stopped by Perks Fish on my way out of the park, and was so happy to see him still in business. If you enjoy smoked fish, or just need fire and ice for camping, check out Perks Fish! A true hole-in-the-wall, hidden gem, etc., it is worth a detour if you are in Parry Sound, and worth stopping by if you are staying at Killbear.

You don't have a lot of choices, but what they offer is good. I had the vegetable omelette for breakfast and it was very well prepared. It was a country omelette that was still moist inside. The vegetables and herbs balanced the richness of the eggs and the generous amount of cheese put a smile on my face. It comes with a serving of cubed potatoes that were fried properly and that were not too greasy. The bread was toasted a bit too brown for my taste, but nothing alarming. Finally, a little note on the place. You order at the cashier before you sit. However, if it's your first time, just take a menu, sit down, and take your time. The staff is friendly and they lady who served me had a great smile and attitude. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of breakfast place in Parry Sound. What's really invigorating is that you don't have to come to Fairways Bar & Grill because you have to. You can come because you know it'll be a good start to your day.

After the long winding drive we got to the clubhouse. Felt kinda out of place not being golfers, but the sign said "Visitors Welcome". The atmosphere was very nice, staff very polite and professional. Prices not too bad, we both had the Fairway Breakfast, price included coffee as well which was a bonus as most are priced separately. Big shoutout to the caddie who picked is up in the parking lot so we didn't have to walk up that giant hill, lovely sense of humor, which helped take the edge off the awkwardness. Made us feel very welcome, thank you!! Would definitely go back again next time we are up.

Then there is the lunch buffet! Thin, flavourful fresh baked ravioli, fettuccine alfredo cooked to perfection, and penne in special red sauce with the perfect bit of spices. Italian meatballs, bruschetta mini burgers with cheese, bbq ribs, and excellent veal parmigiana in appropriately small, lunch- sized portions. All salads with six dressings, home style veggie soup, light battered fish and chips. Yes, it's "All you can eat" And, it's all good. Be careful. Wear your Magic- Stretch" pants. In summary, it is rare to partake of any buffet and find that nothing has been tortured under a heat lamp. This establishment creates the buffet choices in small increments so that everything is always fresh for everyone. Summer time And the dining is easy. And, by the way the price will make you smile. We WILL be back.

It is a very pretty restaurant, in a house setting, with outdoor patio seating. Our server was professional and attentive. The menu is extensive with a lot of interesting options. Prices are fair to the quality of the food. We ordered the Frito Misto and it was perfectly prepared: lightly batter, crispy, juicy and tasty. The arugula and fig salad was delicious and such a good combination of flavors. The eggplant Parmesan appetizer was so good: crispy yet juicy, and not greasy. The tomato sauce that came with it was different: fresh and crunchy. However the pièce de rèsistance was the wild boar: so tender and juicy, with a mild gamey flavor that came together with the light sweetness of the poached pear and of all the other ingredients that completed the supreme flavor. For dessert we ordered Panna Cotta: so well made and beautifully decorated. It is honestly one of the best meals from beginning to end that we have had in a long time. Can't wait to eat here again!!!!! SIDENOTE: the only thing that could improve is the bread.
